On The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion Oct 23, 2020
Ju Jing Yi has really limited acting range. She got the dead eyes, impertinent look down to a t. It's the same look she pulls off everytime she gets inquisitive or doubts someone. She has a pretty face but why do I feel she looks sour all the time. This is pretty much the same acting she did in In A Class of Her Own. These are markedly different characters but she has the same interpretation. Even her overall look is the same with the same distracting red eye shadow. The good thing is she is not screaming all the time otherwise I'd long drop this.

This is my first time watching a drama in the Candle in the Tomb series and I love it. This is a notch above that other adventure drama. This one has a compelling plot, great characterization, excellent cinematography, it's fast paced with no repetitive scenes and above all the tomb raiding aspect is always center of the story. I got confused at first because ML and FL had already met and I didn't realized at first this was a reunion drama for the characters. The first time they met is shown in the Candle in the Tomb drama from 2016. The other ones were set in the Republican era. I am excited to see the sequel when they go to Worm Valley.

The male leads are awesome however the FL is a big NO! I've dropped her last 3 costume dramas because of her silly and bratty acting. I've always followed Yang Yang but my quota for ZLS drama for next year is already filled with The Long Ballad and frankly I will probably never watch another drama where she is the FL.

The last episodes are so annoying and just frustrating. Too much time wasted by the leads bootlicking the useless emperor. FL was actually getting beaten by that two faced Ban Ling Er. She was so much braver when she was a mere circus performer than when she became a noble consort. She spent the last few episodes babbling about sacrifice and duty that went nowhere. She basically lost her edge at the end and became a useless figurehead that parrots high words.

This could have been a good drama had they(the 4 leads)not continued supporting the emperor until he completely turned into a paranoid and inept ruler. I'm pretty sure a mere consort even with the emperor's favor should not be able to contend with the grand commander, a noble consort, and the empress. I got extremely irritated after watching episode 37 where the those three and their longwinding speeches at the court could not even end Ban Ling Er's silly scheme. What a complete joke those three became. I especially dislike the Grand Commander whose is loyalty is borderline fanatical.

This is a great cast. All good actors. My wish OTP from Story of Yanxi Palace is here. Shame the story did not turn out the way. Concubine Shun look like he had a thing for Fu Heng LOL.

I've dropped because I did not like how the plot changed. The second leads are forgettable and are accessories to the story. I especially dislike the 2nd FL. As for the leads, the FL is actually the more rooted and relatable character here. She is singular in her goal of finding the truth about her family's demise. Her motivations are clear from the start. She is possibly the best written cross dressing character I've come across. The ML meanwhile is that stock royal character who reluctantly joins court politics. I've seen this far too many times.

The drama lost its detective plot along the way. Around the mid part it turn into Prince Qi playing the role of suffragist and trying to pave the path for Su Ci to make public her identity. I find it rather implausible and laughable for the principal of the Imperial Academy to readily acquiesce to Prince Qi's demand of admitting women just because of a flimsy blackmail by the prince. It was like he waved a magic wand and opposition to his proposal was done away. A silly premise to start with. The FL might just as well stop her cross dressing because everything is fine and rosy now. I already know where this is headed and I've lost interest.

I fast forwarded Pang Zi's love line with that woman with the sick kid. That was a major dud for me. The previous Lost Tomb starring Neo was better. This is suppose to be a tomb raiding drama but most of the scenes here are just Zhu Yilong trying to uncover pointless conspiracies, philosophizing about his life and searching for Third Uncle. Lots of talk and not much action. The warehouse plot is particularly over extended.

I like Ancy Deng. She was the only saving grace in the horror that was Legend of Awakening. If you'd watch that then you'd know she already had a role with a love line. I think she was 13 when it was filmed. Her partner was in his 20's. I really I cannot understand all the fake controversy about her age. I'm guessing most of the criticism come from Western fans and their whack standards. I'm pretty sure there isn't going to be anything close to the vulgarity and tastelessness of Hollywood productions. No need for the faux outrage, please take a seat!

This is honestly a better version of Under the Power. Good chemistry between the leads. My only gripe is the 2nd FL is another one of those annoying happy camper character.

I would have watch this without the atrocious editing and cuts. Throwing away half of the scenes and expecting a smooth story is asking for the impossible. If they ever release the full version I will watch that one.

Truthfully, the original novel that this is adapted from, Fish Playing While Trapped in a Secret Room, is a lot…
I knew GGS was a complete overhaul of the original novel but I did not expect them to do it again. I was hoping they'd stick with the GGS universe. Now we have 2 dramas that are supposedly sequels but in fact have different storylines.

As of ep. 26, I can declare it's the best chinese drama i have ever seen. The complexity of the story surpasses…
I want to see a xianxia drama where FL actually ends up and considers the 2nd ML.

I adore this drama but if I have to be honest Sifeng is a masochist, Xuanji is irrecoverably dense(she has a reason…
I dislike people who have a rather superficial appreciation of aspects of the story, its characters and the traditions where this story is rooted in. Just because someone is going in between the leads ever after doesn't mean their villains. The FL qualifes as a villain herself since she was quite a piece of work in the past and in multiple lifetimes I must say. A class in the teachings of Daoism would be beneficial to attain understanding. As for the the subtle attempts to connect this to popular modern activism, I consider it disingenuous and laughable. That word is so overused these days my eyes start to roll each time I see it. Lastly, the name calling is just plain rude and vulgar.

I smiled when Dijun uttered the line 由爱故生忧,由爱故生怖 (you ai gu sheng you, you ai gu sheng bu). Where there is love, there is sorrow. This was what Jinmi remembered when she was dying when she came in between Phoenix and Night Immortal. Her final words were a reinterpretation of this saying. This drama really is a literal homage to HSALF and TMOPB. The feel and look of this one is so similar to those two.
