THIS! people keep criticising xiaoyao for being pathetic, selfish and ungrateful for keep on dwelling with her trauma. her fear and resentment of being abandoned, living all alone without parents and suffered at the hands of the demon for years. her feelings and trauma are valid. and all she ever wanted is to lead a peaceful life away from fame and power? and that’s even people could not sympathise and understand her?! mind boggling.
it’s irony how everyone can justify other characters for acting the way they’re because they’re like this and like this. but when it comes to xiaoyao, she’s pathetic and always using her abandonment card. cang xuan aimed for the throne because he wanted to protect xiaoyao and wanted to do his revenge for what’s happening to his father and mother. while cang xuan using any means necessary to achieve his target, even using xiaoyao as a pawn. truly, the dream arc is a huge letdown. and not to mentioned, he’s everywhere watching her silently and creepily, if they wanted to redeem his arc like this, they better just make him killed tushan jing and xiaoyao killed him for good. everything fell flat tbh.

i have different opinion in this. you know as the relationship progressed, they’re not the same person they’re yesterday. i believed he wanted to believe they’re not meant to be, hence he keep replaying this exact scene in his mind. he wanted to believe, because of this exact words, he don’t deserved her. so, leaving her and freeing her from his love all he could do at the end.
it’s make sense for xiaoyao to say something like that, it happened all the way in s1 when he constantly threatened her and treat her harshly. but the current xiaoyao (especially in s2) is someone that’s almost like his bestfriend. they could talk deeper things and know that they meant exactly that. xiaoyao let xl saw her sorrows, her vulnerable sides, she keeps asking if he’ll continue on his path and would he change his mind. he got his chance when xy happened to ask him when she’s too heartbroken after breaking up with jing, but xiang liu keep giving the same answer. he never let her in. he’s the one who didnt grab the chance and refuse to give up his army to xiaoyao.
if they at least have an honest conversation and expressed their feelings towards each other. still, after all, they probably have long accepted they’re not meant to be. the what ifs is pointless after all.
i think some people being quite harsh to xiaoyao when it comes to xiang liu. we know it by heart that xiaoyao also has feelings for xiang liu. it’s not like she’s not aware of what’s in her heart. but xiang liu circumstances didn’t allow them to further their relationship. hence, they both buried their feelings deep inside their hearts.
when misunderstanding happened between them, it happened because XL allowed it to happen without trying to explain it later on. he keeps on playing with his words, and try to be mean to her, hence she treated him the way he did to her. and the last part, I understand why a’nian didnt tell xy about xl killing the bug and the gift, she promised to him she wouldn’t mentioned it to xy. promise is a promise after all and some things better left unsaid if that’s the only way not to put a burden/causing pain to someone.
and if im not mistaken, quite many times xiaoyao asked him about his decision to choose his path. and again, he always got the same answer. it’s not xiaoyao who didn’t give him the chances, it’s xl himself that put a shackle in his life, putting his loyalty as his first priorities, we know better that they actually can just surrender and unite under the same ruler, under dahuang.. but i guess, the pride, the identity, the loyalty towards one’s tribe or ancestors matters the most to them. hence, his demise is what he deserved, it’s all he ever wishes for. he said it time after time, they didn’t meant to be. it’s really sad tbh, but I wouldn’t blame xiaoyao for not choosing him either.
me realising that ‘lost you forever’ title applied for all the characters in this drama. somehow somewhere along the way, each of the characters.. lost someone, lost something that meant a lot to them.
cang xuan lose xiaoyao after he chose his path, which is to obtain the throne. xiaoyao lose everything that matters to her (parents, her youth, companions) but rewarded with the only thing that gives her hope in life; tushan jing. xiang liu lose xiaoyao after choosing his path, or xiaoyao lose him either way (both lose each other). jing lost his life, yet regained it after xiaoyao saved him. hence, he fought for the only thing he could not give up, which is xiaoyao.
so does a’nian, xinyue, fenglong, and all the others. they all lost something and sacrificed their life, identity and even their consciousness for something. at the end of the day, there’s no winner. they all suffered and lost something along the way. those who live, continue on living. those who didn’t, being remembered for who they were and the memories they left. they all matters.
watching ru shou wearing xiyan court’s attire (brown) seems very awkward. he suited more of haoling court’s attire, white costume and his hair letdown. oh, not to mentioned, i thought a’nian gonna fall in love with him, they got better chemistry together. together, they make a good couple I believe.
fenglong’s death hits me the hardest. probably because I couldn’t see it coming. such a good character and a loyal person. a good gege, a good companion, a good general and a good citizen till the end. i love despite some flaws he had, he didnt shy to admit it. till the end, he was loyal to cang xuan & admitted that it’s jing idea to support cang xuan. i cant help feeling agony because he died because xiang liu’s poisonous blood.
it’s truly sad really. all these characters make the bad choices somewhere along the way. and some mistakes can be corrected (just like xiaoyao mentioned). but how can you redeem yourself after killing someone? even more killing someone that hold important value to your beloved person?
cang xuan not just killing jing. but he torn apart xiaoyao world too. he thought xiaoyao can endure another heartbreak just like she always did. but he really overestimated her. though she seems strong and resilient, her heart suffered pain after pain, then it get bleeds and tore time after time. and she only wants tushan jing to warm her heart and give her hope to live. and even one thing she wants got robbed from her. the whole ep18 really breaks my heart.
put aside all this ridiculous angsty, bad decisions and a lot of missing scenes (different from the novel), one thing that excelled in this s2 is Yangzi’s acting. she nailed it beyond my expectation. i wailed for her 😭
I thought it would be hard cos hes got to sit there and carry the whole scene by himself without looking plastic
of course. i mean it to be a joke. the hardest acting’s is when there’s no script and all you need to do is conveying all the emotions through body languages. he did really well!

ep15 is pure nonsense especially all that related to war. they rather waging war instead of having face to face talking, they rather send the troops, wasting people’s energy and money to fights in order to terrorize somes place. but the kings can visit each other and talk nicely as if the war didn’t happened outside. aiyaa, and not to mentioned when king of haoling apologised to cang xuan about everything that happened in the past, cx said.. it’s all in the past, you should take care of yourself.
