When are we going to get a new saeguk that is not a romance saeguk? :(
did you try bossam steal the fate? i went in expecting an epic romance sageuk but what i got was 80% historical politics + suspense, 10% action, 5% slice of life + comedy + romance :/
Ji Chang Wook and Sooyoung will make me cry buckets!
From the synopsis, it sounds heavy but interesting. Hopefully not a tragedy. ML seems like he suffers most of his life so hopefully he gets a happy ending.
No skinship? Which means no kissing nor hugging? Just them knowing their affection towards each other? Is that…
it's amazing you can't remember if they hugged because after episode 12 that was all their romantic scenes amounted to. Saying some nice, polite words then ending the scene with a hug ðŸ˜
Even though the plot isn't exactly something new I really enjoyed watching the first episode and can't wait until…
This drama feels kind of new to me, but since it's not new to you, can you recommend something similar? I am absolutely loving the manga right now I need more ðŸ˜
I agree. The cast and actors did an incredible job. The OST's were also one the best I've heard. Unfortunately…
Thank you for sharing the same sentiments as me!! I was such an obsessed Bossam fan up until episode 10. Episode 11 was meh, episode 12 could have been better. But after that was just...bad except for only a few scenes. I couldn't genuinely praise Bossam anymore after that. I hope the writer doesn't think what they wrote is a masterpiece just because of the good ratings. I'll forever avoid that rookie writer's projects.
I agree, I think I got to episode 14, got stuck there and judging from what I'm reading here I won't bother continuing…
Ugh same. I screamed when it happened but then like...huh? all of a sudden? No buildup whatsoever. While it was mentioned in episode 2 that Bawu had already realized how beautiful she was (remember in episode 2 he said, "aside from having lost her mind, you will never find a woman more beautiful than her)" I still think it would have been more Bawu-like if it didn't come out so...easily? idk i can't explain it but I get that they want to make Ba Wu a guy who's straightforward with his romance now on, but there should've been a different way for him to compliment the princess that seems more Bawu-like than...some random rich gentlemanly noble.
this show makes me wanna write tons of fanfics to fix the romance lmao
Great review! I was very obsessed with Bossam throughout it's run but man the frustrating parts really brought down my enjoyment. Maybe if my expectations weren't so high from the sheer masterpiece that was the first half of Bossam, I would've been able to enjoy the political aspects as well. I usually do when it comes to sageuks, but Bossam's leads have so much chemistry and it was such a shame they were underplayed in favor of the typical palace politics in sageuks.
"I will simp for the first half of the show" THIS THIS!! I can't forget how Bossam was SO fresh in the first half. Crazy how much the 2nd half ruined that
Congratulations to Bossam for achieving 9.75% for the finale! Definitely very high for an MBN drama. It always feels good when the last episode is the highest rated episode. The story definitely did not deserve it but I know the staff and actors struggled 8 months of filming mostly during the winter and they deserved the high ratings at least.
I am begging for good directors to cast Jung Ilwoo x Kwon Yuri in another drama. Preferably one where they can showcase their sexy, hot, passionate chemistry they showed glimpses of in the early Bossam episodes. I'm so mad the writers did them dirty. The story was supposed to be about their characters as commoners, not the political figures no one cares about.
It hurts me how much potential this drama had and it did not live up to it. First half is a masterpiece, second half is a disaster. I am certain they switched writers in the second half. Kim Ji Soo aka the genius who wrote Birthcare Center wrote the first half, and what's-his-name wrote the 2nd half. There's too much of a gap on how different the atmosphere felt after episode 10.
It angers me that the hot chemistry between Jung Il-woo x Kwon Yuri went to absolute WASTE after episode 10. It's not that they can't act, we've seen what they could showcase in the earlier episodes. Heck, they had chemistry from the first time their characters looked at each other in the eye! But natural chemistry + good acting can only get you so far if the romance script you're presented just tells you to say some polite, empty words that feels so repetitive and then hug. I've never hated hugs as much as I do now.
It's not that I'm obsessed about a kiss scene, most of my OTPs aren't even canon so they have zilch kiss scenes. It's that this drama was promoted as a romance, and yet the romantic tension was only built up until the first scene of episode 11.
I've never felt more deceived than I do now. MBN promoted this drama as a ROMANCE, that touches upon the "impoverished, plight of widows, oppression of women" but I saw only 5% of what they said Bossam's theme was going to be. 95% of the drama became political and we were not warned about it AT ALL. I don't mind watching politics and a romance subplot, but at least TELL me what to expect. Bossam was SUPPOSED to be 80% romance/slice-of-life/comedy/action, 20% politics, at least that's how it was in the first half. THE WRITER DOESN'T KNOW THE WORD "BALANCE" AT ALL.
The only way I'll ever forgive this writer is if they make a season 2 that focuses ONLY on the romance and the slice-of-life genre. But sageuks never get a season 2 so I guess I'll never forgive this drama. I only appreciate it for the fact that it introduced me to some amazing actors. Jung Il-woo x Kwon Yuri x Shin Hyunsoo, you three deserved better.
dropped after 4 episodes. it started off nice but became kinda boring,,, should I continue? does it get better?…
actually i thought it was boring in the first few episodes but i actually started liking it more after episode 4. because that's when cho taejoon x choi sooyoung's chemistry really starts to shine and it becomes fun watching them after that.
They are not legally married and he still had a living wife at that. They are are too correct to do anything physical…
I know I know, I understand that. They can hug and hold hands but kissing is a no-no, right? I actually thought that with them suddenly being sweet, maybe there was like a deleted scene or sth where they actually were intimate but we didn't need to see it or something. But it seems like in the recent episode, it's confirmed that they haven't gone past hugging.
Ever since episode 12 when they suddenly became sweet, I'm not in a hurry to see them kiss. I just want it to be natural yet passionate, not at a weird, forced timing and sizzling with build up and chemistry. If the right timing is at the finale then so be it. Because even though they've hugged like four times, the first two hugs had more chemistry when they weren't quite ~established~ than the hug Sookyung gave when Bau left and the hug they shared when he came back. I can't quite point out why I feel that way and I hate feeling this way. I was expecting an epic romance since MBN promoted it as a romantic historical drama, with the focus of Bau x Sookyung and a love triangle and how these 3 characters get tangled up with each other. But all that seems like a side plot now. There aren't many scenes of the main 3 characters even though initially they were promoted as a love triangle.
That final scene in episode 16!! Best cliffhanger ever since episode 10!! Sookyung finally gives no fcks. I know people were mad that Sookyung was being passive with the biological mom bullying her but tbh if I were her I wouldn't waste energy on someone so crazy.
And it was a good thing she didn't waste energy on that psycho because at the end of episode 16, she really did save up her energy to face Lee Yi Cheom not as her father-in-law but just as a Left Councilor.
I can't believe I watched last week episode in 2x speed. I really liked this drama. I feel something changed when…
(I think you should set your comment as a spoiler btw)
You're not the only one, I've been upset about this too. Bossam is my obsession but after Bau's reinstatement, the atmosphere became different. Bossam just became a regular sageuk and the fresh, unique charm of Bossam kinda dissipated. In the recent episode 16, Cha Dol even says that he misses back when it was just him and his dad x princess mom. Although thanks to episode 16, I feel a bit reassured that at least one character acknowledges that it was way more fun and simple when they were just a commoner family living in the countryside. Episode 16 starts to feel more like the old Bossam so I'm happy about that at least.
if you don't mind that, i highly recommend it.
