I've read many criticisms from those who don't/can't seem to enjoy these series. And the points raised are valid. But please don't discredit the efforts of the writer and the production team and the actors–that they're not doing a good enough job. Since it is obvious that a lot of people, including myself, DO find the series intriguing and worth following from here onwards. It's only 4 episodes in and has a lot of things it has yet to tell in the story.
We're not exactly asking everyone to stick with the show. After all everyone is free whether to drop the series or not. Not every series is made to be every single person's cup of tea. Thank you for saying this. Exactly my thoughts. But we can't really blame the audience. To each their own, I guess. The big name of Kim Eun Sook, the high profile cast. And aside from that, they marketed the drama as the big comeback of actor Lee Minho. So expectations were really high.
But personally as a viewer, I don't exactly set high expectations (regardless of my high excitement levels since I heard the news about this drama). I learned from the past never to expect too much from hyped works, or else I'll be too critical of everything I watch, of every medium I consume. Even with Goblin, I did not love it from the very start. So even then I didn't expect much from it despite the loudness of the hyped audiences. But as I watched every episode, I grew fond of the characters and in love with them. And now it's one of my all-time favorites.
I hope the other audiences would give it some slack too, because we're literally only just 2 episodes in. Of course, it wouldn't give everything all at once. That's why this is a series--it's meant to progress every week, unfolding every bit of the story. Who knows, even if it would not be as grandiose as Goblin or other popular works, it may still become one that we can truly enjoy, without minding too much of the criticisms.

Anyone knows what she's up to these days? She just disappeared from dramaland :( I'm worried her father's scandal has to do with it, tarnishing her reputation as well. : ((
Ah, Kim Go Eun. She set the bar for my highest standard/personal preference for acting. No one cries as naturally and realistically as she does. Now that I've seen most of her work, whenever I see actresses cry in their scenes, I would always look back to Go Eun's finest acts and picture how the character would be if Go Eun played her. Whew. Mind-blowing.

Loved the cast and their acting (of course I watched it mainly for Go Eun, one of my muses <3). The very meat of the story was great and tragic. The score was alright–typical of what you'd expect in a period drama film/show but nothing too remarkable. The close up and slow motion shots appeared beautiful. But somehow all of these individual aspects of the film, when meshed together, kind of fell short of the greatness the film deserved. The storytelling pace was irregular, making it hard for me to deeply, emotionally connect with the characters and actually feel their tragedy on their behalf. Maybe the editing could've been done better. That said, please do watch this movie for the acting, action, and story. It's still worth viewing. 8/10.
I rarely like a female lead this much. Chae Soo Bin is so sweet. She handles the situation at the end of ep 4…
Chae Soo Bin is a fine actress! She stole my heart in I'm Not a Robot, and I've watched most of her dramas since. I highly recommend IANAR, The Rebel, and Strongest Deliveryman. These series all came out in 2017 (her busiest year), and IMHO they all showcased her versatility in acting. Hope you'll give these series a try!
We've seen the episodes past ep 3 to be okay-paced. So the cutting down of episodes could mean either: 1. They would exclude all the filler scenes, slow-mos, etc. to make the storytelling flow better. But this also means a lot of the efforts of the cast and staff would be wasted. Good for the story, but pretty sad for those wasted efforts. OR, 2. The rest of the series would have been okay-paced and would actually tell a whole lot of substories (including the supporting characters') if they didn't cut it, but cutting it down may result to a badly stitched together flow. I'm afraid we would end up seeing an incoherent mess.
Hope the writers and editors would do a nice job to tell the meat of the story in the most satisfying way. I hope it's the first possibility.
It was alright on first watch, but everything made complete sense on my second watch, after I finally picked up the details I missed the first time. Great film and acting. Love Kim Go Eun ❤️
I was honestly starting to get frustrated with the sloooow pacing of the first three episodes. Glad to see it's pacing up a bit in ep 4. Hoping they'll maintain this pace instead. I'm loving how they don't beat around the bush now.
