I’m at the point where if there’s ZRY in it I’ll watch. I’m not even a fan, just a passer by. But loved…
literally same, I'm not someone who stans actors but there are certain ppl who seem to have a great eye for scripts and ZRY is one of them. Will definitely check this out
Thought-provoking but somehow not as intense as I thought it would be. This was good, don't get me wrong, but…
Where the film didn't work for me was that I didn't feel as emotionally connected as I needed, to certain characters, and I had certain expectations for a plot twist.
If the killer had turned out to be someone entirely different, some character that we never even met during the course of the film, then that would have been more impactful but the way it turned out just didn't feel as much of a surprise, let alone a betrayal of trust. The killer was pretty sus from the start and it wasn't like he was in a position of trust/authority with the teenagers or someone they had known for a super long time and built up trust with them. So to have him be the killer wasn't really a shock. Also the reveal of the Hojichiro killing and what happened on the day by some other random guy under interrogation was just a bit wtf... a bit strange that the killer explained all his motivations and thoughts during that day to someone else. It felt like a forced part of the plotline. They could have left the day of the killing unexplained.
For the Tokyo couple, while I couldn't have predicted Naoto's death I did suspect that the police call was bc Naoto was in some kind of trouble. Going from, hey let's be buried together to completely freaking out due to a call from the police when you didn't even hear what the reason was, was quite a stretch to me. Didn't ring true to me.
Finally, while it was nice to see a (potential?) happy ending for Aiko-chan, tbh it would have been more impactful if Tashiro just disappeared without a trace, forever. That would have showed that when trust is broken, you don't always get it back.
Thought-provoking but somehow not as intense as I thought it would be. This was good, don't get me wrong, but I was expecting it to be a sucker punch in the guts kinda film, where afterwards you're left speechless, so I was left disappointed. That may be my own fault for just having too high expectations.
It's actually difficult to find the trope of conventionally attractive FL and conventionally unattractive ML done well. Usually, it's never explained or fleshed out why the "beauty" falls in love with the "beast". The French film La Délicatesse is an example of this, we have no idea why she falls in love with him... she doesn't even know why, it just happens for the trope's sake.
So, I went into watching this thinking that we'd get more of the same but I was dead wrong. I get why she falls for Pooh-san, hell, she'd be crazy not to fall for him, he's so pure and kind and good-hearted. Mixed emotions about the plot but stellar acting from FL & ML.
Seems like I'm in the minority, but I really enjoyed the finale. My thoughts in spoiler below
Unlike a lot of comments I see bashing the show and the finale, I actually genuinely enjoyed it. I've been rooting for FL to find peace and happiness from the start so to see her have her own business and be able to indulge in a true love of hers (art) is a joy to see. I feel like the ending was satisfactory, the thought of what-ifs and what could have been is something we can all relate to, in one way or another.
If you're someone who wishes they finally get together, then there are many signs that feelings still linger and the potential is there for that to happen. If you think it's best they stay apart, there are signs that they can both continue to move forward in life, and heal.
What the finale says to me is that for both of them their future happiness still lies in reach, whether it's together or separately.
I want to watch the 2012 drama but I’m scared because supposedly there is a kitten who dies. Is it a brutal…
hey yes a poor lil kitten dies but it doesn't happen out of nowhere, so you can close your eyes or skip ahead and miss it. It's a quick death, & when they show the body it's so obviously fake so that made me feel a little better but yep still v sad. hope that helps!
I'm on episode 5 now and this is exactly the kind of sexy dark romantic thriller I wish they'd make more often.…
Agreed, really liked the aspect of different ppl digging into her past and discovering different information, which when all put together solves the puzzle, or does it?
I just finished binge-watching the 2012 drama and it left me sobbing during multiple eps. Can't wait for this re-make, but it has a lot to live up to imo (esp that soundtrack!)
Was intrigued when I saw there's an ongoing 2023 re-make of this, never read the manga so went into watching this blind. Highly, highly recommend. Bawled multiple times. The theme song is wonderful, too.
This show is more interesting than your boring, cookie-cutter K-drama. None of the main characters are perfect, all have their issues and flaws but I'm rooting for FL all the way.
Consider her rough childhood, family trauma & grief, plus her low social standing in a country where class and money is everything. She could have used that as an excuse to give up but she didn't. She worked hard and put up with all the daily humiliation she had to endure at work for what, being pretty? For not having gone to uni? For daring to work hard and put better-educated ppl to shame at work?
She tried to burn it all down to the ground in an effort (misguided as it may be) to protect the man she cares about, and make the best out of a shitty situation. Do I think it was the best thing to do? Ofc not, but we know she always tries to take agency (volunteering for jobs she's gonna be lumped with anyway for e.g.) in a world where she has very little control.
I hope she finds peace and some kind of everyday happiness. When she got rid of her plants and piano, sacrificing the only small morsels of joy she enjoyed for a guy who wasn't worth it, I think her spiral of self-destruction was set in stone then.
Synopsis is trash. I'm really enjoying this, it's about a police officer who's trying his best in a city mired with gangsters and corruption, and the intertwined story of the descent (or maybe ascent?) of a fish stall owner who takes a dark turn into the criminal underworld.
Btw there should be a warning for epileptics, episode 8 in particular had intense flashing light scenes that can trigger a seizure. Fellow epileptics, beware
Finally took the plunge and started watching yesterday, & already all caught up! I really enjoyed the trilogy so was v curious as to how it would be adapted. So far, I think they've done a great job, even those who have never read the book would easily be able to follow along. Very immersive, after each episode I need a few minutes to snap out of the dream-like mood. I'm wary of how the Cultural Revolution backstory is gonna be handled, guessing it was glossed over to pass censorship? We'll see.
episode 1 intrigued me but the more episodes I watched, the more truly idiotic the plot became. Once I started treating the show as a parody comedy it became a lot more bearable to watch. ML looking fine was the main reason I continued to endure loss of brain cells and watch on.

Finally, the trope has been done justice here.
