I keep saying I won't watch the previews but I always do anyway, and looking at what's coming, it seems that promise about not lying is going to bite LBY in the butt soon. I don't fully trust the previews though, because they're always edited to be so misleading 😂
Personal opinion but I didn't care for CSS lecturing the crown princess. It felt out of place and unnecessary.…
I mean, CSS was abused and mistreated by her aunt and grandmother for more than 10 years. The fact that she's not an evil, scheming person is a miracle in and of itself. I don't think a few good things finally happening over the last few months can negate the years of abuse (let's also not forget all the young women in the palace trying to kill her). It's much easier to be like the crown princess and blame one's wickedness on their sad lot in life and the fact that she took that route says a lot about her character. The Empress is literally in the same if not a worse situation, seeing as how she actually has to live with the woman her husband is in love with, but she somehow managed to still be a good person.
The crown princess never actually tried to make a real life with the prince. If she had, maybe things would've been different. I didn't mind CSS talking to her because who else was going to? The woman didn't want to hear it but it needed to be said. She made herself and her husband miserable for 10 years, and then also ruined the lives of that poor woman and her children. Even if the crown prince compared her to his first love everyday (which he didn't), how is that the woman's fault? At the end of the day, she chose to marry the crown prince even though she knew he loved someone else because she wanted to be a member of the royal family and then she blames everyone else for choices she made.
I found it really ominous when Shaoshang said as long as LBY doesn't lie to her, she'll be with him forever, cos we know he's already keeping so much of his plans secret and he may decide to lie to her for her safety in the future. I just hope this isn't going to be a problem later on.
You know I’m actually a little disappointed by CSS’s revenge ploy. It’s so mild ! Totally not befitting…
I think the real revenge was having the princess confess to everything she did on her own. The traps were definitely meant to punish the princess, but anything more than that without clear evidence of the princess's wrongdoing would hurt CSS more than anyone else.
I just loved today's episodes 37 and 38. CSS and LBY's chemistry is sizzling and the entire ensemble cast is such…
I guess it's not so much that the Emperor and Empress aren't held responsible, it's more like who can possibly hold them responsible? Who's going to accuse the ruling power of not raising their children properly and ask them to take responsibility for their daughter's actions? That's just going to be seen as treason. As much as the Emperor is somewhat silly, this is still an imperial family with the might and privilege that comes with that title. At the end of the day there's a pyramid of power and the Emperor is at the top.
I also didn't expect the aides to be executed for the whims and actions of a spoiled brat, but again, it is the imperial power. I guess that's why nations then often hinged on the mood and personality of the leader. Most Emperors murder people for less.
Just when I was starting to relax and enjoy the show more, all of a sudden here comes the agitating, grating presence of Yuan Shanjian. I was hoping and praying that we were finally free of him and his ridiculous behaviour. I can't say how disappointed I was to see him at the engagement party, and then again at court. My only solace is knowing that he hears every time someone talks about how amazing Shaoshang and LBY are together.
The Crown Prince really annoys me, especially because I really like WZC and I want to like his character. How is it that he simply refuses to learn from anything or anyone around him? He's such an embarrassment and I wish LBY didn't have to support him. I'm sure he'll do something to cause problems again soon. Ep 35 was pretty chill and now I'm starting to get anxious cos there must be problems on the horizon.
P/S I have to say, any time Xiao Yuanyi gets upset knowing that Shaoshang is probably happy somewhere else, my petty a** rejoices. Their relationship seems to be better now, but that's probably just because CSS is learning from the Empress and is also spending less time at home.
Was it just me who found this weird?- Lady Rouyang walked in with her soldiers who easily overpowered the guards…
I was thinking the same thing, but then I thought maybe they didn't want a small army of personal guards at such a high profile function. I don't think officials are meant to have soldiers at their disposal to that extent and she may have finally let them return to their posts once the family settled in. They haven't been around for a while now, I think.
EP 32. LBY was right; she need not jump into a situation without seeing the whole picture. He has warned her too…
She has a very hard head and an even softer heart. I think it's also the fact that the Empress has been the mother she wanted her whole life so she's not even thinking about consequences as long as she can bring the Empress some peace in the mean time.
I feel bad for Cheng Shaoshang because things that should be simple get so overly complicated in the palace and now her good intentions are being turned to dust.
I liked her getting back at that nasty princess but I have to admit that palace politics are too complex for such open retribution. One of these princesses can easily find a way to murder CSS if pushed too far and I don't think that has sunk in with her yet. Not to mention the impact of her actions on those around her too. The thing at the memorial was way too risky to me because it could easily have been worse if the princess had actually gotten burned for instance.
I'm not fully on Ling Buyi's side because he never gives CSS any information until she stumbles into more palace intrigue, but my goodness the Crown Prince is an idiot. The CP wanting to save his cousin may seem fine on the surface, but that man put lives in danger because he's an incompetent general, and now they want to lead more soldiers down there to die for him? These soldiers don't have families that care about them? It's just favouritism and it will ultimately make him a horrible emperor. As much as I can understand CSS wanting to help the Empress by helping the CP, I wanted the foolish general to suffer more, along with his foolish family.
It's remarkable to me that the Empress and Consort Yue seem to have a good relationship (even with the Emperor), and seem like such good people, but their children are all stupid, greedy or useless. What a pity. Also funny is the Empress saying she'll talk to CSS' parents about raising such a great daughter when CSS has to go home to a mother that she has heard call her dirt over and over again. I was happy to see Xiao Yuanyi get jealous because of CSS's relationship with the Empress.
Park Jin has to be the stupidest mage ever (after Uk's father). He keeps taking leaps and arriving at the worst possible conclusion. It's tiring.
One thing I think has been lost in the sauce is the fact that Jin Bu Yeon (the real Mu-deok) never had any relationship with anyone outside her family until Jin Mu tried to kill her after getting the ice stone. I've always found it odd that some theories involve her ending up with Jang Uk, a man she doesn't know or care about. She instinctively saved Uk by stopping the soul shifting simply because that's who she is. I wouldn't put it past her to have actually "stolen" Naksu's soul now that it's been revealed that she could tell who people were even though she was blind. She definitely recognized Naksu when they had their first encounter and I believe she took a calculated risk by stopping Naksu from shifting into the body of an innocent woman. I don't know if she really thought about what would happen beyond that, and maybe Naksu losing her power was a side effect, but I'm almost certain Mu-deok only did it to save that woman's life. Why didn't she just let Naksu die? Probably because she's not a killer and maybe she recognized some good in Naksu's soul that made her worth saving.
I'm really intrigued about how this season will end cos there seems to be a lot of threads in the air and very little time to put them away neatly. Also, the preview suggests that the ultimate olodo (idiot), Jang Gang will be returning soon, so let's see what fresh nonsense he brings with him. I'm pretty sure Master Lee isn't a soul shifter but it's nice to see the queen squirming because of his revelation.
The palace intrigue is taking this to a whole new level. I love the empress but she's too kind and softhearted to do what needs to be done. My MVP for ep 30 is Consort Yue for taking zero prisoners during the banquet. I need CSS to learn from her too cos wow!
Some highlights of eps 29 & 30 are CSS and LBY getting closer, CSS missing LBY when he didn't show up to escort her to the palace, LBY smiling more naturally around Shaoshang, and the empress being a safe haven for CSS and acknowledging how smart and capable Shaoshang is inspite of her lack of education.
I can't believe Xiao Yuanyi was actually calm and speaking to CSS like a human person with feelings! And look what an impact her words had when they weren't dripping with sarcasm or covered in barbs. I'm always happy when CSS has peace at home so I'm glad her mother didn't add to her problems for once.
It was good seeing CSS take the time to think over her interactions with LBY and realize that he's always been on her side (even against her mother), and although I want to be happy about the relationship, I can't help thinking that we're only halfway through the show so something painful must be coming.
Words can't express how satisfying it was to watch that princess get smacked down to reality! I can't understand these characters cos why would I ever want to marry someone who openly despises me? LBY has made it clear that he wants nothing to do with them but one by one, they keep lining up for an extra helping of humiliation via public refusal.
It's clear that CSS hasn't really settled down to consider LBY as a partner and husband, the way she took time with Lou Yao so I'm expecting her to soften up to him once she's done that. I think she's getting there now and it'll make their relationship a lot more interesting.
Once again, I was hoping in vain for someone to punch YS in the mouth, but I was disappointed. I hope he stepped in a ditch on his way out of LY's wedding. His childish antics of trying to neg CSS into paying attention to him make me so irritated. I can't wait to never care about that character again.
I'm up to ep 13 and I still don't understand why NDH's mother and grandmother won't just tell her what happened. If she has started to remember, it's obviously better to get it out so that she can stop feeling so lost and looking for answers that may put her in danger again.
Anyway, I can see why the reveal of the kidnapper fell flat for some cos I kind of saw it coming some episodes before he was revealed to us. I do think that who the kidnapper/killer is is not as important as everything that happened around the incident with the people in the community, so I wasn't really expecting a stunning revelation. It was always going to be someone in the community and none of those people are so important as to carry any shock value. I just think they're dragging out the mystery of NDH's family out a little too much and I'm starting to lose interest in whatever her mother may have done in the past. It's still an enjoyable watch because I care about the main characters.
Edit: So her mother finally told the whole story and I don't think it was worth the wait but I see how she must've been traumatised by the event too. Also, why does NDH insist on walking around the neighbourhood at night all the time even when she was being stalked? Now there's a confirmed killer on the loose and she's just traipsing around by herself at night as if nothing is going on.
Each week, my Jang Uk x Crown Prince ship sails harder! I really need them to be the best of friends when this is over, cos they would've gone through life and death trials together and I believe the CP will help them stop Jin Mu and the Queen when he knows the extent of what is going on.
I think I missed something cos I don't know who Shaman Choi is and what the beef is with the mages of Songrim. The reveal about Naksu makes her story even more pathetic, cos not only was she working with the person who was responsible for the death of her entire family, but he also used her to further his goals under the guise of getting revenge for her father's death. She never really achieved anything and got sent on a suicide mission when he no longer needed her. Her mission of revenge was doomed from the start.
I want to be worried about Mu-deok but the whole ice stone/Jin daughter plot armour makes it hard 😂
Watching this on Netflix is wild cos every single time it cuts to something on tv, in the newspaper or even just concert tickets, it's blurred out. You won't get any of the references that are relevant for the show and the time period because it's all been removed 🤦🏻♀️ I would suggest watching it on any other platform if possible.
When Min Woo was complaining about how WYW didn't deserve to get hired, I needed Soo Yeon to ask him where he placed in law school, and how many cases he's won off his own ingenuity. It's obvious that he's mad because he feels WYW shouldn't be good at her job when she's autistic, so he's looking for any reason to pull her down so he can pretend he's better than her at something. It's not as if they've been making huge concessions for WYW since she joined the firm, and she never asked for any kind of special treatment. She doesn't even turn down work because she's there for the love of the job. Unlike someone like Min Woo who is clearly there to get ahead and would abandon all of them in a heartbeat if a better offer turned up. I am curious to see how the team functions after this because it will definitely come out that Min Woo made the complaint, so where do they go from there?
On a lighter note, I'm starting to wonder about Attorney Jung cos he's just as soft hearted as WYW and Soo Yeon when it comes to taking up hard-to-win cases. I can't believe they introduced him as this tough guy attorney who didn't want to work with WYW in the beginning, cos now it seems like if he'd spent any more time with her on his own, he'd have folded before the CEO stepped in. Also, how funny was it when Jun Ho switched up as soon as he heard Young Woo say she's trying to figure out if she likes him! Lol.
