Park Bo Young is really awesome here! Reminds me of Kim So Hyun in Who Are You. Having one body play two totally different character allowing you to see each character wholly separate from the other. What's special here is that Park Bo Young is like a soul double of Kim Seul Gi. She is echoing the tone and nuances to a tee and the transition is always seamless without even any props. So it is slightly different from the recent barrage of MPD dramas. Daebak!
No matter how much i try to like yian.. i somehow can't geht myself to like him :/ I actually thought he was quite…
I don't think his love for EunByeol would have disappeared. She's his bestfriend after all, he would always love and care for her. It's mainly that with a reality check he may have to re-define his feelings in the boundaries of friendship. Whenever he thinks of EunByeol or when he specially misses her, he mostly flashbacks to childhood memories. EunByeol was very different then, (like how she's comforted him when his mother died, and compare that to her reaction now when she's told he hurt his shoulder). I would assume EunByeol was still very similar to EunBi when she was young. I think because of those warm memories from their childhood, he can easily shake off EunByeol's rudeness or cold attitude.

It would make perfect sense for YiAn to have that talk with TaeGwang. They need to lay things on the table.
TG already warned him to back off or keep away from EunBi. Earlier he'd even claimed that EunBi needs him more than he she needs YA. To which if anyone remembered was like the culmination of irritation (TG is more of a nobody to butt into their established friendship, since she's still his bestfriend EunByeol) a sure trigger for YA to react physically to TG (yeah gave him a choking grip). He could have thrown a punch (like what usually TG does when reacting to irritable boys), since TG was really goading him. But of course his arm is important in his sports, so throwing punches probably a no-no.
The talk is probably meant to clarify YA's stand-point with regards to EunBi seeing how close TG seems to have gotten with her.

It seems logical and prudent that EunBi should be leaving school, I would expect just for the current school year. Before her suicide, she was already kicked out and subsequently signed a transfer form. Then for the months she'd been at EunByeol's school, she's technically missing school as well. Also, the adoption process might take some time. It's a little farfetched for her to enroll now at EunByeol's school or another school.
Omg am I the only one who ship the relationship between Eun Bi & Yi An? D: She used to love him & he realized…
Also, I am rooting for the main heroine (Eun Bi), so among other things I'm also rooting for her feelings or her crush to be reciprocated.
I consider Yi An's arc to be more interesting than Tae Gwang. Tae Gwang type of character I've already encountered many times so it didn't resonate much with me. Yi An's arc feels fresher. Both actors feels pretty much tailor-fit for the roles which makes for a pleasant watch. Though most are not enamored by Yi An or the actor himself, I find him adequate playing the subtle emotional resonances, thus I'm fairly satisfied.
Another mystery resolved.. there's healing... the bully get's served with the cold hand of retribution... The enchanted bubble got burst in the contrasts of reality (this is the bubble where one boy had put his idealized best friend of childhood only to finally realized that she is indeed different now when he is presented with the contrast of her)... the beginning of a reunited family... and yes, more reversals. I think this would also be the point when the plot reaches that phase when (possible) OTP would be on the same page in thinking.
HER: "I know it's her you like, not me, and I have to accept it..."
HIM: "I know it's him you like, not me, and I have to accept it..."
As this seems to be the only conflict that's been left out.
There's big revelation! (Oh Soo In sooo choking sad)
There's reversals! (GTG doing what HYA used to do/for LEB)
Acceptance... Confessions... Reunion...
And now I'm left like a tightly stretched string, vibrating with unreleased tension. I''ll consider it just another folly for deciding to watch this one while it's still airing.
Gong Tae may be doing cool, awesome, swoony, and sort of always doing the right things for the girl; but it’s…
I had that initial thought at the beginning of the series that maybe both Yi An and Eun Byeol are covering their grown feelings for one another, from each other and from their friends. And it's all based on those two scenes showing GEB supporting HYA in the background during his race and the keepsake she'd kept of their childhood. But it really wasn't enough. GTG was just the first one to discover and accept LEB 'coz he was the least to have been closed to GEB. It doesn't negate the fact that LEB is receiving genuine warmth from HYA and she had in fact recognized his kindness and caring though may be meant for her sister is actually directed to her. In retrospect, she would have been very attracted to HYA by his loyalty alone.
I want to watch a cute high school romance but kinda with sad moments, but not like that really melodramatic as…
There is an element or thematic hint of "soulmate vs lover" similar to BOF and YB, if that's what you're looking for. But it's only the half of it, so this is not purely a high school romance. Since you don't seem to have watched School 2013, you might not be used to the format where it expounds on a lot of other issues related to school. More often, despite all the other elements, it is always friendship-driven.
The Death of Lee Eun Bi & Disappearance of Go Eun Byeol:
Before Eun Bi took the plunge, she only left a note which I don't think was really a suicide note, so how did the news about her bullying and suicide come about? It might have started with her disappearance for days. The school and orphanage would have gone looking when she became absent. It would have gone on for days.
Though the timeline wasn't very clear and even a bit skewed, the day after Eun Byeol disappeared is also the day that Eun Bi was kicked out from school and maybe same day that she jumped the bridge. Afterwards, 10 days passed by..
Eun Byeol is smart, once she’d decided to change the life of her sister, as well as giving herself some alone time to figure what to do with her life, after saving her, she has to show that Eun Bi actually died. The body might not have been found if it’s assumed to be at the bottom of the river. Eun Byeol could have left some things that might identify Eun Bi, and those she would leave by the river so they can be found. She might even have fabricated a suicide note there. A person that had been missing for a long time might not be assumed dead, but a body assumed to be at the depths of the river, which cannot be found, can be assumed dead. Thus, the orphanage might have just cremated her things which wouldn't be unusual. Afterwards, it would just have been pieced together that she was bullied.
For the ones that would know it was Eun Byeol who died in place of Eun Bi, if they do not think too deeply, they could easily assume that she died while trying to save her sister. Even if she'd been a good swimmer, unexpected things may have happened. After seeing the urn with her ashes, they would just be too grief-sticken to ask things like "how was the body?", "where was it was found?", etc...
EDIT:
I was re-watching episodes while waiting forever for episode 11 and I realized that my timeline might have been wrong. But here would be some actual dates:
Based on Love House Orphanage Volunteer Work Form Date
APRIL 07 or 27- So Yeong & Bully Gang went to Love House Orphanage (episode 1)
Based on above, since this is the next day when So Yeong seems to be hospitalized and also first time GEB tried to call LEB
APRIL 08 or 28 - Go Eun Byeol disappeared (episode 1)
***However, in episode 5, it was stated GEB disappearance and LEB death is same day so must be APR 28, and first date is APR 27. These dates actually coincide with the broadcast of episode 1 and 2 (APR 27-28)
Based on Nuri HS Withdrawal Form Date
APRIL 28 - Lee Eun Bi signed withdrawal form (episode 1)
Based on Funeral Home Urn Date
APRIL 28 - Date of Lee Eun Bi's death (episode 4)
***As per episode 4 there was only a dead body found a few days after LEB was taken to the hospital. So on the date of LEB death there was no body. So then it was really just her things that were cremated.
***The discrepancy starts... 10 days passed and LEB was found at the hospital. LEB encounters So Yeong at the hospital and So Yeong still didn't know LEB died? She only knows the news that LEB runaway after the forced withdrawal from school.
I can just say, the main heroine here is Eun Bi. It is about her past, her growth and transition, the kind crush, the cute admirer, gaining new friends while missing the old ones, a long-lost forgotten sister and that loving mother she would have had in the first place if not for some twist of fate. The second heroine is Eun Byeol, and it is about facing the tragic consequences from some of her actions and attitude, the guilt for finding out that she had been living the high life while she’s got a long lost forgotten sister that had been living a hard life, and her journey in the background trying to right the wrongs that had been going on in her life. So really, in the end, it might not be too unrealistic in dramaverse for Eun Bi to be served with everything, a mother, sister, bestfriend, and a love.
I have somewhat written my opinion on GTG before. But if I’m to paint a broader picture, I’d say he had also been secretly crushing on the It Girl (Eun Byeol) who actually wasn’t giving him the time of day in the past. But he’s the kind of guy presented with unexpected opportunities, which he can take advantage of (remember the hospital scene encounter). So in the same way that Yi An is having time with who he thinks is Eun Byeol, Gong Tae is also taking advantage of finally being able to spend time with who he thinks is Eun Byeol. Because by miracle of “temporary memory loss”; that girl was finally talking and being kinder to him.
EPISODE 9 – GTG to LEB: “See… It doesn’t matter what you call them. It’s the same with you. Whether you’re Lee Eun Bi or Go Eun Byeol, it doesn’t matter to me”.
GTG might have voiced this one but the lesson here applies to both boys. The name wasn’t that much important. It is who they were actually spending time with that was important.
While I’ve been so restless waiting for new episodes, I happen to see the old trailer/teaser for this drama. Just watch the one that’s on this site, and it’s pretty telling. I am so amused. It is pointing to who the “kind crush” and “cute admirer”.
Gong Tae may be doing cool, awesome, swoony, and sort of always doing the right things for the girl; but it’s kinda obvious that Eun Bi is not really developing romantic feelings towards him.
On the other hand, what he’s developing towards Eun Bi is similarly the same one that she is developing towards Yi An.
Firstly, it’s happening because it’s the first time both of them are receiving that kind of warmth from someone after their sadder past. Eun Bi’s heart is being moved and is responding from Yi An who from the start is actually projecting the 10 years of genuine friendship & love he has for Eun Byul (more on this). And then, Gong Tae is also being touched by Eun Bi’s warm and honest regard for others.
Eun Bi's romantic feelings towards Yi An might still be vague since it's coated with complications with her needing to live the life of her sister and the pain she had caused him by doing so. Therefore, she is clearly not aware of it herself, except for the way she simply wants to keep on spending time with him, and her heartbreak every time he tries to distance himself from her.
There wasn’t much to glean from Eun Byul’s feelings towards Yi An. But there’s been indication that her heart is really not at the same place the way Yi An has her in his heart. I think she really wasn’t hanging out much with him anymore, and they are not having much heart to heart talk. She’s carrying more important things on her heart and mind, and he’s clearly not a priority. I reckon they first met and bonded as they were having their swimming lessons as kids and as Yi An has become more successful in that dream, she had just always supported him. Even if she’d not disappeared, I reckon she might not really budge from that friendship zone with Yi An.
Yi An may have been carrying special feelings for Eun Byul for some time. However, I think it really bloomed while he’s been spending more time with Eun Bi, and thereby experiencing the warmer and softer version of Eun Byul that he’s been waiting for. Not to mention that he once more find himself in that place that’s actively involve in her life, as she’s in vulnerable state.
The biggest heart mess to resolve would be for Yi An to reconcile his feelings between Eun Byul and Eun Bi. Then for Eun Bi to resolve her guilt towards her sister, and her feelings towards Yi An.
I guess it's evident that I'm more hooked on the friendship and romance of this drama. It does have a lot of other stuff that are just as good. For one thing, there's the inter-twined mysteries. Only for me, the mysteries are a lot easier to guess than the rather rich & angsty relationships.
This drama is really bad for my health in so many ways. Its been really rocking the cliffhangers every episode. With 6 episodes more to go, I have suddenly conjured up this scenario...
Eun Byeol <--BFF--> Yi An <--OTP--> Eun Bi <--BFF--> Tae Gwang
GEB & HYA = best friends forever
LEB & GTG = best friends forever
HYA & LEB = one true pair
To corroborate this with an explanation would be too spoilery, so I'm just gonna post separate comment. I just can't help posting since it's all messing with my head now waiting for next episodes!
This was among the earliest Japanese movies I've watched and though I can't remember much of the technical details…
Not sure if you'll agree with me, but you've also watched them already.. I found House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tigers had a touch similarity.. I'm not sure if I can point out anything else that has as much combination of great love amidst great conflict with grand martial arts showdown which also includes stunning visuals :-) On a smaller scale, you might want a quick watch of Duelist
edit: my bday is actually a day after yours... hahahahaa
I thought there would be something special on this one, like a sort of ground-breaking take on time travel and parallel verse concept, but it didn't really bring anything new.
TG already warned him to back off or keep away from EunBi. Earlier he'd even claimed that EunBi needs him more than he she needs YA.
