Not comedy or romance, it's a drama!

I'm not sure how I'm feeling after watching this movie. But the first thing I have to say is that comedy and romance as film genres are not even close of be right, it is a psychological drama, sometimes sad, sometimes chaotic and sometimes scary.

A lonely young woman rejected by society and her first love and a depressed widower meet each other and become emotionally involved in a torturous and often self-destructive way. There are no comic moments, just a lot of pain and disappointment. With a partially comforting ending, but that let me feeling sad.

"Of all the poisons, men are the most dangerous!"

Monkey King 3 took up where Monkey King 2 left off. Aaron Kwok returned as the Monkey King along with Feng Shao Feng, Xiao Shen Yang, and Him Law. Zhao Li Ying joined them this time as the Queen of the Women’s Kingdom.

Wu Kong, Pigsy, Sandy, and Tang Seng are heading west on a river when a river demon assaults them. There’s an old joke, “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him ski.” This was as close to a skiing horse as you are likely to see! With the help of the goddess they escape and go from the frying pan into the fire. They crash through the portal into Woman Land where Tang Seng and the Queen seem to fall in love as they plummet down a mountain. The Preceptor, a very uptight woman dressed in white, declares the men must die because they have made the cardinal sin…of being men. Men’s love is poison to a woman and it’s looking like the Queen might have been infected. She rescues them during their execution and they seek to find a way out of the spell dome over the land.

The CGI was good for the most part and there was a lot of it. Woman’s Land had beautiful dwellings and strange monsters abounded.

Aaron Kwok is the best Monkey King I’ve seen. Too bad he had very little to do in this movie. This story was more of a romance and spiritual trial than adventure. Even the “villain” was just misunderstood and hurting. Tang Seng and the Queen had to decide between love and duty as did the Preceptor. Even if you are like me and only know the story from the movies, the ending was inevitable.

I had reservations about certain aspects of the story. The one whom the Preceptor had loved during her youth was an androgynous river god. Years before because of her duty to the new queen, the Preceptor had to reject the river god who then became unproductive, obsessive and wrathful. The spirit who could cause miscarriages appeared to be a man in woman’s clothing which was played for laughs. Not very 2018 of them on either count, neither was portrayed positively. The men ended up pregnant, very pregnant after accidentally ingesting the water from the river of womanhood. Setting aside the biological issues, and regardless of your stance on abortion, there were forced abortions. Finally, though the women seem to be well trained warriors, they still had to rely on the men to solve their problems and ultimately decided maternal love was greater than romantic love. Seemed like this movie could have at least tried to give them more agency and views on loving. There were also a couple of deus ex machina moments that took the tension out of volatile, dangerous moments.

Tang Seng wrestled with wanting it both ways. He wanted the Queen and he wanted to save humankind from suffering. He believed sensual love would weaken his soul. Ultimately, he and the Queen were able to live with their decisions because they faced the problems head on and made their choices freely. Perhaps the Goddess sent him to Woman Land, because just like heartache, you can’t understand love unless you’ve felt it and lived through it.

If you are wanting to watch a movie featuring the Monkey King, this is not it. He is a supporting character to the love story. The love story was hard for me to accept as they fell instantly in love as if they’d been poisoned, knowing nothing about the other person. Zhao Yi Ling and Feng Shao Feng did their best to convince me, and it almost worked. They were lovely to look at and capable actors. Ultimately, this felt more about duty than love even if Tang Seng believed loving one was the same as loving everyone.

2 wonderful actors, 1 mediocre story

Both the FL and ML are stellar actors with a good body of work. So one has high expectations when they are paired up. But the story is so mediocre. It tries to be funny but falls flat. The various flings are tiring to watch. The excessive alcohol makes one want to puke.
Their own chemistry feels warm in some places but falls flat most of the time.
Clichéd, dull, mediocre, tepid. Nothing special.
In fact it's irritating to watch middle schoolers cheer their teacher to follow his heart.
Sigh.....disappointing.

It lacked a big brain energy.

It’s not like I expected realism - I went in to watch a fun action flick and it is more or less what I’ve got. Yet, it still bothered me how little it took for the main character to infiltrate the scammers and how the scale of their project did not match their security.

What’s more, the movie lacked interesting characters. Gwak Pro had some personality and that’s where the list of interesting characters ends. Everyone felt painfully flat and boring.

Truly the best part of On the Line was the behind the scene of how voice phishing works and how many victims may there be with just one fake call center. It’s a good watch for everyone who is on the more gullible side.

That said, the movie serves more as a criticism to the government and the lack of effort and work put into catching the criminals, over a valuable lesson for the viewers. There are no real hints on how to deal with similar issues if they happen in real life, except “hang up” - the issue is, you only hang up when you know something is a scam, and figuring it out is usually the problem.

Acting was fine. Since everything was rather flat, it’s hard not to deliver decent performance.

Overall, I would say a documentary on the similar subject would be a more interesting watch.

A Satisfactory Ending

The wait was worth it. The actors still managed to hold the spark and chemistry with each other.

I was completely smitten and excited to see Adachi and Kurosawa back together again.

SPOILER FROM HERE ONWARDS

My favourite scenes from the movie in no particular order

1. When Adachi reached out his hand to feel Kurosawa's real feelings about him transferring, it was heartbreaking to see both of their faces. But I'm so glad they were honest with how they felt and did not keep their feelings bottled up. Communication is important in a relationship.

2. That very cute moment when Kurosawa made Adachi wear all the clothes he'd bought for him

3. That scene in the kitchen when Adachi wanted to let the people close to him how important Kurosawa is to his life

4. The talk that each of them had with their respective parents. I completely understood where Kurosawa's mother was coming from. Living in a society that does not accept people for who they are is difficult

5. I loved the scenes in the office too. Especially the one with Fujisaki and Rokkaku. Even Adachi's scene was Urabe nailed the way people communicate their love for each other.

Tho it’s a remake of the 1960 film, this boast adaptation to the current social ground. I think it is unique, decidedly sensual, risky pleasures, subtle, mysterious, thrilling.
Admirable acting from the artists, and exemplary production work is visible.

This film gives out a surreal sense of deranged domestic privilege with added mystery and subtle chaos.
The graphic sex scenes radiate an uncommon heat that is not typical for Korean film work.

The ending scene is similar to David Lynchland, won’t leave you breathless, tho it delivers a consistently odd angle.

This series may not be deserving of a 10 rating but definitely not deserving of anything less than a 5 in my opinion.

Compelling

Character is the type of film you want to see in the theatre or at least with 1 other so you can grab a bite to eat and talk about it. You want to inject yourself into the film to come up with motives, figure out what a character was thinking and why they did (or didn't do) something.

Yamashiro Keigo is a talented artist and assistant to a popular mangaka. He has dreams of publishing and becoming a successful mangaka himself. The only problem is Yama wants to draw horror and thrillers, but lacks the experience in which to make his characters believable. He's too nice to get into the mindset of a villain. While on assignment by his boss, he stumbles upon a grisly murder scene and witnesses the murderer leaving the site. This flips a switch for Yama and he uses it to jumpstart his career. The only problem is the killer recognizes himself and uses the Yama's manga, 34, as a blueprint to commit murders. Inspector Seida Shunseke recognizes the similarities between Yama's manga and the murders and begins using 34 as the basis of his investigation.

The production is splendid. The directing and camera work are very well done. I noticed no continuity issues, but to be honest I was too involved in the story to notice any little issues. Script writer, Nagai Akira, did a good job mixing genres and keeping us engaged. You would think since the police were trying to catch a serial killer it would have been a bit more action oriented or at faster pace. But, honestly, you don't even realize it's character driven and psychological. My only complaint is that we don't learn enough about the killer. We're left only supposition. I, for one, would have liked to have some hint as to his resources. He was able to find things and/or people that he really shouldn't have been able to.

Suda Masaki plays Yama and heads a talented cast. Fukase Satoshi was brillant as the serial killer, "Morozumi." He was just plain creepy. The encounters between our 2 leads were uncomfortable for Yama and the watcher. The supporting cast including Oguri Shun as our intrepid Inspector Seida were excellent.

The music really supported the movie and wasn't overpowering. While I'm not big on re-watching dramas, I do re-watch movies. I can see myself watching this again

Overall, this is a great watch. No perfect but it accomplishes it's goal. It's dark, psychological, creepy, and engaging. A very good murder thriller.

A Violet by any other name would still be as fierce!

Scorching Sun, Fierce Wind, Wild Fire boasted an all-star kung fu cast---Angela Mao, Chang Yi, Lo Lieh, Dorian “Flash Legs” Tan, and Roc Tien Peng. Despite a huge cast, most of them familiar Taiwanese film fighters, this made in Taiwan flick fell apart due to haphazard writing. Only an unlikely bromance saved this movie.

You would never know this was set during the Chinese Republican Era by looking at it. The costumes for the most part could have been from almost any era used in kung fu movies. Guns were introduced at one point by government officials which brought it into the Republican era. A possibly 1960’s car in one scene took the audience too far forward in time!

This should have featured Angela Mao since she was Violet, the mysterious rebel leader always dressed in….violet…and with her face covered. Sadly, she was only able to shine in the final grand fights. Roc as a rebel leader from the south was rather lackluster in his scenes. Chang Yi is always a good baddie and he didn’t disappoint as Wu Chi, the traitorous head henchman for the local warlord. The best part of the movie for me, were Lo Lieh and Dorian Tan as two escaped prisoners. They formed a reluctant bromance that was both humorous and the most sincere relationship on the screen. I truly enjoyed their interactions and fights. Fights against each other and fights against the baddies.

The story revolved around the rebels and a missing treasure map. Roc had half of the map and the warlord had the other half. 100,000 bars of gold were the prize for whoever could gain both pieces. Honestly, that flimsy story was the excuse for people to fight from beginning to end. Some fights were better than others. Chang Yi was featured in a great many of them. Aside from a fight with Lo Lieh and Dorian against some bandits and officials only the final 20 minutes of fights were worthwhile. Dorian’s legs did most of the heavy lifting, kicking in the fights. Angela finally had some face time on screen during the final fights showing her fierceness. I should mention that the nefarious Wu had a poisoned knife that melted people-quite gruesome.

I have to mention that some of the music sounded like it was lifted from the original Star Wars movie. You never know what you will hear in an old kung fu film!

If you like the cast and Taiwanese kung fu films from the late ‘70s this is one to try out. Don’t expect to see too much of Angela, lower your expectations, and hi-yah!

Well written, great acting

The screenplay was flawless and the chemistry between the main characters was fantastic. The male lead in particular was very believable as a man who deep down feels he doesn't deserve the love of a beautiful, caring woman. Even though he had so little to offer the female lead would've married him anyway, which is what makes this movie so heartbreaking. I found the open ending appropriate. This is billed as a romance but it's actually a tragedy. Two people who love each other deeply but can't be together due to societal pressures.

i didn’t like the plot it’s just like meaningless movie for me, also i still don’t understand about the plot, maybe they’re worrying about their future? but why are they suddenly become like that???

I didn't like how the background music played like that throughout the story, it’s a bit noisy :(

i give 0.5 points for the main lead “Kujo” for being hawt and kinda cute at 01s

but anyway i really love the vibes tho !!!!!

If they made it as short series it would be much better.

This movie was boring, not well executed and the acting from the ML was awful.

I hope to see him improve in his future works he has potential, his voice is good and his visuals are too, but here he served almost nothing! I might sound like I am too harsh, but believe me, I've watched many movies/series where the acting wasn't the best, and I couldn't bare this one.

I would not recommend it as an invested watch! If you want to just watch something, and practice your listening ( if you are learning Japanese ) - yes, but if you want to enjoy and watch for the plot and character development - then no.

However, if you are into reading, maybe give the manga a try. It is so much better. Most questions are answered and their story is developed well!!

The power of friendship and a really extroverted friend bringing everyone together.

The concept reminded me of Let's Go Jets which is about an all-girls cheer team.

I liked how each of the characters were pretty unique and encouraging towards each other. I trained to be on the cheer team in school and the training was really tough so I kept thinking how exactly are they gonna start this club with no instructor considering you're gonna do dangerous stunts.

It was enjoyable around the time they started training. You can't help but want for them to succeed but some parts were a little embarrassing to watch. The ending was great but not too climactic given it ended with them performing at school rather than in a real competition where they would be able to get that feel of "hey we're a team competing against other teams passionate about this sport."

Underwhelming

If I had to describe this show in one word it would be 'underwhelming'.

Thats the general feeling I had watching most of it.

I wanted more from the characters & the story. I wanted to love this series & enjoy it like many others but all I feel is underwhelmed.

From ep1 until like ep7, the 3 main characters had this all encompassing aura of sadness around them. Even when the smiled, laughed or genuinely enjoyed themselves it all still felt so sad.
In that sense alone, I found it so overwhelming/stifling.

Xu Qizhang's bandmates and mom were honestly a breathe of fresh air & most of my favourite scenes from this series involves them.
My favourite character is definitely Xu Qizhang's mom. I actually grew to kinda care about her more than any other character in the show.

Character descriptions:

Qizhang - word vomit.
I've never seen anyone who offers up so much information that wasn't asked for. You could ask him a yes or no question and he'll tell you his whole life's story😭

Guang - shallow.
I don't know much about him other than he has strict parents, is best friends with Ray & likes Qizhang. I don't know what he likes, dislikes or even who he is. I sympathise with him because of his situation but I couldn't connect with him as a character.

Ray - frivolous

He is the most interesting & unique character in the show... on paper. The two best friends suffer from the same character flaw. We didn't actually get to learn much about them. Why was he dressed like woman for his ex? Does he like dressing prettily? Who is he?

Jian - love interest.

That's kind of it. He is Ray's love interest and is in a band. How old is he? What are his interests? Why's he in a band? Why does he like Ray? None of these are answered.

Also Ray & Jian's first kiss was laughably awkward & Idk that was the intention.

Basically I can relate to what they're going through and I can even relate to what they're feeling but I just struggle to relate to these characters. Their lack of depth leaves me with nothing other than sympathy for them.

It was promising but ultimately underwhelming.

Such a touching revolution true story

4 strong and famous actress in one movie. The movie started up slow but it eventually capture your attention , and you can’t get your eyes off the screen about 2/3 in. I have never been to China, but as a Chinese, father told me lots of Chinese history. From different dynasty to many political leaders. Not sure how true this movie portrait Chiang. The movie make him look really bad like shooting animal, stole the big Emperess diamond put on his wife shoes, and weak like a weam at the last airplane scene. My Chinese friends said they learned about the 3 sisters story in high school. I am a little Suprise that the Soong family were Christian, they were quite wealthy. It seems like they were ok. I thought Communism against religion believe.

Long story short. War is sad. Innocent people die, so many people die in any war. The worst is people fight against their own country men and women.
