Beautiful story with a little bit of blandness to it.
So this is a Cdrama that was recommended to me because it was apparently similar to Glory so I gave it a try. After watching I can definitely say that I like it however I wouldn't say that Its better at least to my taste. As someone who likes watching family dramas, I really like the story on this one however I'm gonna be honest, its a little bland and but without faults.. Not the story specifically but rather the execution of it.First off, the reason why I say its a little bland is because there seems to be a lack of osts and background music. They will really only play an ost whenever its the most very very very important part. I mean its not bad tho, ig it helps you in a way to focus on the story more? but there were a lot of scenes where I thought to myself would be better had it had a music in the background playing to intensify the scene.
Secondly, the story really liked to dance between serious and comical scenes. Whenever a scene is supposed to be serious they try to make it as something funny which I didn't really like especially during the first few eps of watching it.
Thirdly, I don't know if its just me but the time skip was the most confusing sht ever. Not the story but trying to know who is who was just a headache. Especially when they added more characters and some of them looked alike and some of them also had the same titles like "Second brother", "Zecheng", "Zesheng". I literally had to go check the character list and research who is who. Well, I did manage to get past it even though at some point I was mistaking Gu Tingye for Sheng Changbai lol and kid Changbai as the other illegitimate kid who lost to kid Tingye. Ig I was face blind since this is the first time I'm seeing this actors/actresses? like one point I also mistook the father of Ming lan as father of Gu Tingye and was wondering why he was punishing Changbai, turns out its Gu Tingye he's punishing and the scene is at the house of Gu. I was at a mess trying to find out who is who, it all clicked after few eps tho lmao.
Well, those are some faults that really got to me. There is also the ending with the 4th sister Mo Lan which I didnt like but I'm not gonna spoil it. Overall, really enjoyed this drama. I'd give a 9/10.

BEST CASTING
I really like this film, everything is perfect, starting from the casting, the storyline, the cinematography, and even the very perfect casting for each role. This film also presents various beautiful natural visuals, and Kim Seonho is great at mastering various languages just to deepen the role of Jo Hojin. Go Youn Jung is no less cool, she can even explore 2 roles at once in this film, and the difference is visible. Sota Fukushi is also cool, he can make a difference that was initially Enemies to Love.HM: Do Rami is really, really cool, and this character also provides a plot twist at the end of the story, who exactly is the alter ego of Cha Muhee.

My FAVORITE kdrama pairing!! ?
When we first found out this drama would be filming with Go Youn Jung and Kim Seon Ho as the leads back in 2024, I was beyond ecstatic. Alchemy of Souls 2 is one of my all-time favorite kdramas, and GYJ is probably my favorite k-actress. And then finding out the Hong Sisters wrote this was just a cherry on top. It was a LONG wait but I can finally feel the satisfaction of finishing such a well-executed and high-budget show!Plot-wise, I have to be blunt and say it wasn't my favorite. The pacing was pretty slow, and there wasn't a SUPER big plot twist, nor constant action to keep you on your toes. But I still enjoyed its simplicity. Almost like a healing drama, there was more of a lighthearted vibe to this drama from start to finish. I do wish there was a bit more though, as I did not find myself crying myself to sleep or laughing with giddiness like I do with some really well-written masterpieces.
Characters were all great, emphasis on our three leads. Like I stated earlier, our ML and FL were just fantastic and simultaneously executed the yearning and comedic relationship development so well. But I have to say, Fukushi Sota was quite the scene stealer. Every episode, I liked him more and more. It was pretty obvious from the start it would be a love triangle (literally the first scene lol) but I didn't realize I'd low-key be rooting for him𼲠He's such a healthy example of a MAN. đ The second couple was very random and meh but not annoying.
High budget is always a feast for the eyes-- in this case, the travel destinations were so beautiful. Japan, Canada, Italy were all filmed in quite scenic locations and it was a delight to see them going to places I've visited. Overall, I think more budget does have some correlation to high quality, giving the show almost a movie-like aesthetic. I wonder if they cut the story to only 12 episodes because of the amount of money they were pouring into this-- honestly 16 could've been better for the story.
Overall, it was an enjoyable finish. And just a feast for my eyesđŤŁđĽ° Don't think I'd rewatch, but this will remain in my memory as a beautifully-executed easy watch with a great lineup.

The Ending Lost the Stories Purpose
Bulgasal: Immortal Souls is a dark, slow-burn fantasy drama that aims much higher than most genre shows, and for the majority of its runtime, it succeeds. Drawing heavily from Korean folklore, the series builds a grim, moody world centered on immortality, reincarnation, vengeance, and the emotional cost of carrying memory across lifetimes. Itâs patient, often intentionally restrained, and clearly more interested in themes and atmosphere than quick payoff. One of the showâs biggest strengths is its sense of purpose. For most of the series, it knows exactly what it wants to say. Immortality is framed as a curse rather than a gift. Reincarnation is exhausting rather than romantic. The story repeatedly emphasizes cycles; of violence, guilt, and obsession, and how difficult it is to escape them. Thereâs a heaviness to the show that feels earned, not performative.
Visually, Bulgasal is inconsistent but often effective. The special effects go through noticeable ebbs and flows. Some sequences are haunting and cinematic, especially those tied to folklore and past lives. Others feel undercooked, briefly breaking immersion. That said, the overall aesthetic; dark palettes, slow pacing, and eerie framing, does a lot of the heavy lifting and keeps the tone cohesive even when the effects falter.
The performances are a major asset. The leads carry the emotional weight with restraint, selling centuries of pain and fatigue without excessive exposition. Supporting characters add moments of grounding and humanity that prevent the show from becoming emotionally monotonous, even when the story gets bleak.
Where Bulgasal ultimately stumbles is the ending. It comes incredibly close to being amazing, close enough that the disappointment stings. Rather than concluding in a way that reinforces the themes and lessons the show has been building from the beginning, the finale pivots toward a romance-focused payoff that felt like it never truly got started. The emotional groundwork for that shift simply isnât there.
The problem isnât romance itself. Itâs that the show spends so long prioritizing ideas about consequence, loss, cyclical suffering, family, and forgiveness, only to set those aside at the finish line in favor of a relationship that was never meaningfully developed and was only hinted at. The result is an ending that feels smaller than the story itâs trying to conclude; less thoughtful, less earned, and oddly disconnected from the showâs own strengths. Itâs so close but ends up just unsatisfying.

CAN WE HAVE MORE EPISODES?? ? Please please pretty pleaseeee ?
I'm really sad that this series ended. It was because we only got like eight episodes like what is that?? đ anyways, I'm glad I can see Seto-kun again. I first saw him in the Senpai, Danjite Koidewa! and he was brilliant.I like the plot of the story which is the whole supernatural thing I wish they elaborated more on that but, It was still good considering that they have a trap character I didn't expect that. (Teehee)
The actors for this series was all pretty and handsome too. I like the new faces.

Ahjummas Detectives,
I enjoyed this series!! This has everything, comedy, drama, plot twists with a pinch of thrill, The neighborhood ladies with different personalities seek justice for those who are in trouble, but only 10 episodes, that's a bit down, but each episode has its own story, Itâs basically an ahjumma crime fighting squad, and itâs the perfect show to sip your tea with as they take down criminals! Also the last episode clearly isnât the end, thereâs obviously a season 2. I really hope it comes out soon, like in a few months, not a year later, or it wonât feel the same anymore.
Watch it if you are looking for a good watch, with a beautiful sisterhood, mysteries to solve, while to dealing with everyday life and past trauma. I loved that they kept me guessing who was the bad guy, I had to follow the story to get to the bad guy. Definitely give it a try....

Nothing Happens. Another bait and switch bl drama.
The mechanics of a bl drama are present until things fall apart and the ml eventually gets with the girl. Lots of teasing between the 2 main ml characters. But no real declaration of love and devotion. Best I cha say is it is not another tragic bl love story. About the first 10 episodes are watchable, when I saw it was turning into a regular male female romance I skipped to the last episode. To watch the skipped episodes another time. The acting was not trash, all actors were believable in their roles. It was not even a shounen-ai, just a buddy, buddy thing.

Wow. Just wow.
I don't even know what to say. Every plot point was wrapped up beautifully. Wan'er was my favorite, her character very thoughtfully and very consistently. Ji Chu was a total baddie. He motivated me to finish watching in 4 days. His acting was phenomenal, and I think I fell in love with him too... Hua Qing Ge was very fun to watch and even though she did some trope-y things and classic misunderstandings occurred, she was still a great main character. Overall, such an underrated drama, I'm surprised no one has heard of it whenever I recommend it. I genuinely fear I will never find another drama that satisfies my hot guy itch while also having the same tropes that I enjoy. My only nitpick:
I don't like the way they handled Wan'er at the end. It felt very unnecessary and didn't make the most sense. Also, wish we got more scenes of them in the modern world, but tis to be expected with this genre...

Best Romance Drama in Awhile!!
Just finished this drama and Iâm beaming ear to ear! The story is beautifully written, the music touched my soul, every scene was beautifully shot and the leads had chemistry that made you feel all warm and fuzzy. This really is a drama that feels like a warm hug on a cold snowy day. I loved every second of it and no episode was wasted on unnecessary drama. Both Lu Yuxiao and Chen Xingxu are such great actors that made me feel their love beyond words. I hope to see them collab on another drama together. 100/10 â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸

God-tier
God-tier everything - cinematography, storytelling, OST, acting and chemistry. The lines, the parallels⌠yet everything comes full circle. The way the music (and its lyrics) supports the storytelling. Yet perhaps the most important thing - the calm warmth that the show conveys consistently is something that no other drama I dare say has been able to do as well. LYX and CXXâs best work so far.Was this review helpful to you?
A Different Kind of BL Worth Trying !
Oh absolutelyâbecause heaven forbid a BL actually shows **how relationships really look** instead of serving pastel-colored delusions.Apparently, if a series doesnât give you instant soulmates, flawless communication, and soft violin music after five minutes, itâs automatically âbad writing.â This one had the *audacity* to start with lust, bad decisions, and emotionally illiterate men who donât know how to love without messing it up. Shocking, I know. The awkward, uncomfortable sex? That wasnât a mistakeâit was a mirror. Two players with zero emotional depth hooking up for convenience were never going to look romantic, and the show didnât lie about that.
The toxicity wasnât glorified, it was **exposed**. Possessiveness, insecurity, mistrustâserved raw, no sugar, no apologies. And instead of magically turning into green flags overnight, the characters actually **struggled, failed, and grew**. Fahlan and Sherbert didnât just âhave chemistry,â they *earned* it, which is apparently a crime in BL land now.
So no, this series isnât for people who want fairy dust, perfect lovers, and emotional hand-holding. Itâs for viewers who can handle flawed humans, ugly phases, and growth that takes time. If that makes you uncomfortableâcongrats. That means it worked.
And let me add thisâbefore anyone twists my wordsâI didnât even overhype this show. I gave it a **7/10**, not a crown or a shrine. But a 7 does **not** mean âunwatchable trash.â It means *flawed but worth your time*. This series clearly sits in a **different lane**, experimenting with tone and realism, and while it has plenty of room for improvement, the level of **brutal underhyping and blind hate** it gets is ridiculous. You donât have to worship it, but pretending it has zero value just proves people wanted comfort fluffânot substanceâand got mad when they didnât get spoon-fed.

A drama i know i wonât forget anytime soon
Didnât expect much going in, but this drama completely won me over. This is honestly my ultimate favorite C-drama ever, and I donât say that lightly.Everything about Love Between Lines just works so well. The pacing is just nice; slow enough to let emotions sink in, but never boring or draggy. It feels calm, intentional, and very easy to watch.
The leads are incredibly beautiful, and their chemistry is mature, soft, and natural. Nothing feels forced. Their interactions are subtle but meaningful, and thatâs what makes the romance so satisfying đĽš
The cinematography is beautiful, perfectly matching the gentle tone of the story. Every scene feels warm and comforting and most importantly aesthetically pleasing!
And the OST..is amazing.love all the songs and theyâre on repeat! Especially Special night â¤ď¸
This drama feels like a safe space. Watching it is soothing, healing, and comforting, especially if youâre tired of overly dramatic plots. Itâs simple, sincere, and emotionally fulfilling.
A drama Iâll always come back to and recommend without hesitation.
Perfect 10/10, will forever be my favourite.â¤ď¸

It was about a philosophy rather than about a story
idk tbh. It wasn't an exciting story about a mysterious man that solves world hunger. It was a story about a man. That was all. Not about who he was, but about why he became the way he was and learned to let go. It was incredibly beautiful and calming but I did get bored. But not because it was bad. Simply because it was not exciting. Nor was it meant to be.It didnât create anticipation or excitement around his past. It just revealed his past to explain him. Not to be dramatic, but to explain a mindset, explain a person. There was no âomg this dude is a godâ cuz that wasnât the focus. It focused on his personal journey in a way that made it less grand. The ending didnât hit that hard, it was just kinda like "huh" because everyone already died. It made sense tbh. I have ADHD and if it ainât gripping then it ainât gripping, but it was really good and made me think more than most other shows. Itâs just a story about a man and perhaps about oneself.

Very...okay
From all the glowing reviews it looks like I may be in the minority again as I just found this drama very...okay.The VR/mystery game plot wasn't really something I would be invested in and it just took up time, and aside from that, the show was basically your typical romance drama, hitting the same beats of workplace romance, cohabitation, and even the final act break-up.
I do think this one does it better than most. The pacing is good throughout (despite that final act) and the main characters are realistic and down-to-earth. The second leads are...fine. They were decent to watch, but the storyline isn't really fleshed out.
Overall, this was just okay on all fronts. The plot was okay, the chemistry was okay. A good way to pass the time but not really one I'll remember.
