One of the Most Disappointing GMMTV 2025 BL So Far

Sigh. This series gave me everything… and then completely fell on its face. Head 2 Head was my third most anticipated BL from the 2025 GMMTV lineup, and it has quickly become one of the most disappointing shows I’ve watched.

Let’s dive in.

This series was rushed. Rushed to the gods. Not only did they air it while it was still filming, but they also seemed incapable of coming up with anything new for the leads to do besides repeating the same conflict over and over again. There’s an episode where the leads go to the hospital not once, not twice, but three separate times for entirely different reasons. That’s not drama, that’s diabolical.

What started as something I was genuinely enjoying quickly turned sour. Sea delivers a much stronger performance here than he did in Only Boo!, which actually gives me hope that he’s growing as an actor. I’m now even more excited to see him in my most anticipated 2026 series, Weirdo 101. Unfortunately, his character here is absolutely beaten to death by the dream mechanic. I understood that Jerome could see the future, but I did not realize he was apparently seeing a decade ahead. The show makes no effort to age the characters convincingly. We’re meant to believe they’re in their 30s, yet they look exactly the same, not ten years older, not even ten days older.

The story becomes a constant loop: Jerome dreams something, debates whether to interpret it, decides whether or not to tell Jinn, then it either happens or doesn’t. Rinse. Repeat. By episodes eight or nine, it becomes painfully repetitive and earns nothing more than an eye roll.

The side couples start off as a nice addition before becoming unbearable themselves. Surf and Java land comfortably in my “oh, I like these two” category, which makes me more excited for Roommate Chaos. Van, however, is awful. The series makes no real attempt to redeem him beyond “my parents are dead, feel bad for me,” while he continues being a lousy sleazebag dragging Farm along. The only interesting thing about his arc was the idea that he might have only loved Farm as a friend and felt obligated to feel more because of what Farm had done for him. That could’ve been compelling. But this is GMMTV, where happy endings are almost always mandatory.

The show does work on a comedic level at times, and I enjoyed the dynamics between the leads and their moms. SeaKeen in the physical romance department is… weary. Not terrible, but undeniably awkward. SurfJava do fine. Overall, though, this is a rushed, sloppy series that’s boring in most moments and ridiculous in others. And please, for the love of everything, stop casting the twins as the lonely comedic friend. It’s tired. It’s repetitive. Let it rest.

Ratings:

Story: 6/10 - Fun at the start, but like many GMMTV series, it completely collapses by the end.

Acting: 8.5/10 - Sea has improved immensely. He still has room to grow, but the progress is obvious. Standouts were Keen and Java.

Music: 5/10 - didn't pay attention to it.

Recommendation Value: 2/10 - skippable. Unless you really liked the actors, this does not warrant a watch. Save your time.

If you like soft highschool Bl, Def watch this

First of all, I watched this for Lukemick but I fell inlove with Kenpaul and then settled for Chokunaston.

Little info's if you're struggling
1st couple:Lukemick
2nd couple:Chokunaston
3rd couple:Kenpaul

Luke-Kit
Mick-Shane
Chokun-Kim
Aston-Mon
Ken-Per
Paul-Tar

if you really dont like stressing over Bl, watch this even though you might get stressed over Lukemick's misunderstanding in the first few episodes, you'll get over with it since you're gonna get kissing scenes.

On Chokunaston's character, I really don't know the character that I can resonate with them but all we know is that Kim is a People pleaser or like, Cant say No to Mon and Mon is kinda numb or like he can't notice the fact that he's controlling Kim even though he doesn't want to do that.

On Kenpaul:MY BABIES, Theyre so friends to lovers done right cause first of all, They kissed right? so ofc it'll be weird its not like other bl's who's character will end up together, even though on Kenpaul they left us hanging with their relationship it's still very good, It's giving "He fell first, He fell harder" like idk how to explain it.

But I really wanna talk about the character development, especially Mon, Mon is someone who is very distant with his mom and can't really open up and always misunderstoods things but when he thought about it (after he had an argument) he changed and then when he got into an debate with Kim regarding the sports day, When Kim finally opened up about their relationship, Mon understood and Changed.

need a season 2 so bad plus don't mind my grammar.

The Rise of a Maid

I've never watched a series that was this short from beginning to end before This was the first one I started and finished. Success stories interest me. These themes are frequently explored in Chinese dramas. There are even stories of women who enter the palace as servants and become queens. Of course, their experiences, their struggles against evil, and their rise through the ranks are captivating. I like these kinds of stories, and I've watched many similar series. This series was good. That aspect caught my attention. I watched it with curiosity. I liked it. However, I encountered the fact that it was kept too simplistic. Also, the story was superficially explored without in-depth investigation. The idea of a servant ruling everything was excessive. In other words, it didn't work. Similarly, in this palace where those who gain power kill each other, it's almost impossible for this servant to rise through so much intrigue and planning over such a long period. Because she has no authority. She's just an ordinary servant. Anyone could kill her. No one would even ask. In such a time period, such a place, you're not only preventing death, but you're also imprisoning and punishing members of the royal family who are far more powerful than you. It lacks credibility. Maybe there are small things. You can prove your point. Or you can prevent some things with your intelligence. You're clever. You're intelligent. You're educated; you can get away with some things that way. But never everything. From this perspective, we can see that the series lacks credibility and realism. But if you don't mind such things, you can watch it with curiosity.

Apart from the lead actress Jade Cheng, I didn't like any of the actors. Jade Cheng really carried the series on her own from beginning to end. She was very successful. But there was no one suitable for her, no one who could carry the series with her. Aaron Deng was very weak; he could have been omitted altogether. The acting of the actresses playing the palace lady, the emperor's wife, and the concubine was terrible. It was obvious they were acting. I didn't like it. I only gave it a 7.5 rating because I watched it out of curiosity. As I said, the fact that it's a success story attracted me and made me watch it.

Masterpiece!

I really enjoyed the show, but I feel the karma wasn’t strong enough especially for the second lead actors, particularly the second male lead. I didn’t get to see them truly suffer for what they did to the main couple, and that made the ending slightly disappointing for me. It also didn’t sit right with me that she never got her son back because of the second male lead and his mother’s foolish actions. Despite these issues, the show is still a masterpiece with excellent acting from the cast.

To Korean Drama

I will add "Love in the Big City" definitely into my top Korean drama list. I saw some comments that it is inappropriate for young gay men. I think it is exactly the opposite because it brings visibility to a lot of vulnerable topics like HIV infection because unfaithful partners, societal stigma, discrimination and prejudice, leading to increased susceptibility to health issues, violence and deep depression resulting to suicide. Man suffer more from loneliness, finding soul mate is even harder for gay men.
All actors did amazing job, I can't believe Nam Yoon Su got homophobic comments for portraying gay man, he is simply doing his job. Usually this type of gay dramas feel cringe and flat , I didn't expect such level of complexity.
What I didn't like was the ending or the lack of any ending.

Had potential but poorly executed

I'm not gonna lie when i read "kamol has some special needs" and saw the poster i thought he was a werewolf and would end up hurting his partners didn't expect the special needs to be something else. Took me a while to get that he was into SM. I feel other than the extremely slow pacing they also messed up in the casting. Cz kamol/Yoon doesn't give "ruthless mafia in his early 30s"🙃. He's a good actor no doubt but this role was not for him. As for Ton/Kim i felt his acting was kinda flat he did a better job in 4everyou. Something about hin just felt off. I felt like i barely remember his character even if he's the main lead.

I'd say if you've not watched the drama and don't wanna skip it just watch the episode recap and you'll be good. Cz i think next prince, kinnporche although we're of a different genre did a better job in SM compared to this one. Here the main plot was the special needs which was horribly executed with weird angles and random blurs and they topped that with slow pace n mafia drama which i had 0 interest in🙃 and a crazy woman who's in love with a gay guy. It's okay but not worth it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stellar Between Lines

Straight A’s across the board —cast, story, direction, cinematography, production, fashion, and OST. The high production value and well-thought-out details are evident in every scene. While I wasn’t particularly sold on the stepdad arc, the leads’ chemistry more than made up for it.

The opening and end credits were a visual-audio delight, with an end-credit song I never skipped. Backed by a superb soundtrack, each scene was given just the right emotional lift.

The director did a fantastic job drawing out the characters, allowing each personality to emerge clearly and feel distinct on screen.

ML was dangerously hot with saintly looks, and his micro-expressions said it all. I appreciated his subtle acting style—he did a great job bringing the character to life. FL had a beauty that never wore thin; she seemed prettier with every scene. I really enjoyed her character and the vibes she gave off, and loved her defiant, competitive streak. I also appreciated that she wasn’t a starry-eyed admirer putting ML on a pedestal—she didn’t objectify him, but saw and respected him in a way that made their connection feel authentic. Both leads did a fantastic job portraying their roles.

Props to the fashion stylist for the chic, tasteful, and thoughtfully curated wardrobe.

The ending wasn’t flawless, but I liked that it skipped the marriage trope and circled back to Rongcheng—stay for the post-credits clip. Fresh and restrained, it earns its place among my all-time favorite C-dramas. I absolutely loved it!!!❤️

A Lynx of a Drama

Loved the story and character arcs. The leads’ fiery banters are highly entertaining. Watched it twice already, and I’m still laughing at all the weasel-lynx scenes. Loved every time Wei Shao admitted he couldn’t out-talk Xiao Qiao—equal parts boldly self-assured and sexy. Also loved how seamlessly the show fuses comedic moments with the heavier, emotional scenes.

GOOD NEWS is surprisingly Good! IT'S HILARIOUS, indeed!! :)

DON'T MISS THIS!
Black comedy, done all Right n Very Well.

**
I'm unaware of the Original Real life Japanese Plane Hijack Incident and the events, from which this movie is inspired.
(But not necessary to know that, to understand this story).

We cannot call a Hijack / Crime movie as "Fun to watch" but I can say that about this movie -- This is FUN TO WATCH!! :)

Usually, Hijack themes are full of Nail-Biting Suspense about hostages etc but this is the funniest light-hearted hijack movie that I came across in recent times.
I have seen few such before but they are a mix of comedy and suspense
but this is full length comedy, to be precise, Black comedy which is written n executed so well that I couldn't stop laughing even in a serious scene, haha.

The sarcasm or the black comedy is no where, derogatory or offensive, even though in a serious situation.

**
Story Narration n Execution, done Right n Well.

Direction is Superb -- Creative n Impressive!
Many scenes are shot in a funny n creative way, especially few characters' imagination sequences -- haha, funny n silly :)

Cinematography is Cool.
Pacing is Good.

Sarcastic tone of the dialogues, is funny.
(Probably, All dialogues, characters and events, except the main hijacking theme, are fictional)

**
Every Actor acted Very Well.
Every Character is written Well n is Very Funny.
Every Character and Actor, either Cameo or Main Cast -- Everyone is Very Funny.

Aigoo, the hijackers are such babies!!
They hijacked a plane without any research, any knowledge and any preparation at all, haha.

**
Overall, No moment of boredom. There's nothing I can point out in this movie, as bad 👍🏻
(Except that, there's is a mild confusion at times -- In few scenes, I'm not able to understand whether they are speaking about Japanese officials or South Korean or North Korean.
Anyways, This confusion can be overlooked n one can enjoy the movie :) )

**
Some Sarcastic quotes / Funny dialogues from the movie:

1) Moon is a moon, afterall!
(Actually, this is sad n sarcastic in the scene).

2) Good News, Bad news, what do u want first?.. Is the Good news, really a good news?!
(Funny scene)

3) Is this Pyongyang - Yes or No?
(Hilarious scene)

**
My Rating is 9/10.
(Could be more, if not for the mild confusion at times).

I'm going to REWATCH this :)

On Perpetual Replay

One of my all-time favorites—I’ve rewatched it four times. For K-dramas, it’s Hospital Playlist that sits on my eternal watchlist— for C-dramas, this one takes that spot.

Absolutely loved Zhao Lusi—she was brilliant. Really enjoyed Victor Ma’s characterization of Sang Yan, and I loved the brother-sister dynamic with Sang Zhi. I also loved how they humanized Jiaxu, making him paradoxical and real rather than perfect: innocent-looking but sly, naughty with just the right amount of kink— even lying to his best friend for his own gain. The plot is refreshingly realistic, far from typical tropes.

Beautiful romance with many comedic moments.

Bai lu and Luo Yunxi were outstanding. As in almost all Bai Lu dramas, there was a strong chemistry between her and her costar throughout. Very engaging story with many comedic elements. I watched it three times already. Each time it was worth watching each time.

Engaging drama throughout with virtually no free walk. I especially liked the moment when the leads discovered their love for each other, hilarious parts when leads were visiting Jiang Jun's mother, and the detective process that lead to ouster and incarceration of Lin Taimo and Du Linda...

I strongly recommend watching this drama.

i am skipping through eps hoping for the fl to do atleast give us something

Okay, this is the first time I am watching this fl drama's and to keep it short, SHE CAN'T ACT.
I don't know what it is, but her acting is way too off, like watching her act, you tell she is acting. idk why, but it seems like she is trying so hard to show her face card that she doesn't even try to make her acting real.
I am on episode 8, hoping that something happens while the plot gives us nothing. I HATE those miscommunication tropes with my whole heart, like what do you mean all this would be okay if y'all just calmed your titts down and had a peaceful conversation?
Like y'all are legit doing nothing except serving facecard (actor's face is never declining)
So, in short, watch this drama if you have NOTHING going on in your life and just want to see hot people make worse choices and then try to make it seem like they are in love? Hope this makes sense.
And just to say it out loud, ML acting isn't impressive either, it's just that ik he acts bad (I have watched mr and Miss Crow a long time ago, i don't know if that's the right title, and no, I don't want to Google it to find out)

Tragic and painful

one of the best thrillers drama if not the best already in my opinion.., This is an S tier show
Story wise, characters ,cast and acting, direction
All take 10 rates for me , It’s a complex and smart story with a great sense of thriller and tension throughout the drama
and its psychological part is so well written

It will hook you from the first episodes until you wish you don’t finish it because you will miss it but guess what? you still can’t stop watching it until the end
it leaves you curious every single episode

Most thriller dramas.., don’t focus on the psychological aspects and doesn’t makes you attached to the characters .., mostly cares about the storyline only

this is not the case with this drama because it’s tragedy drama to begin with, told through thriller lens and I think too little watchers will notice that

“Kim go eun is the goat”

Cute little BL

I picked up this drama as I enjoyed the chemistry of Fort Thitipong and Peat Wasuthorn when they acted opposite each other in Love in the Air, another production from the Me and Y stable.

The drama revolves round Rak a young writer suffering from writers block and Mut, a local on the island he is shipped off to by his editing team. Initially Rak is frustrated by Mut’s happy go lucky attitude but over time, and after a night in bed together, sees something that makes him agree to taking Mut back to Bangkok with him as a paid companion.

The plot itself is fairly simple as Rak battles with ancient history and a scumbag, manipulating father that should (IMO) be behind bars and Mut who is there to pick him up and put him back together again. The acting between the two male leads is sizzling and believable as Mut is the perfect antidote to Rak’s selfish and standoffish personality. Over time Mut manages to heal Rak but can he push past the huge impenetrable walls the writer has erected to protect his heart.

Mook is Rak’s secretary and is an extremely annoying and whiny character for most of the series and many viewers posted that they fast forwarded through the scenes with her in them. She is secretly in love with P’Vie, an established actress and the BFF of Rak, who asks Mook to become a pretend girlfriend in order to squash malicious rumours about her promiscuity. To be honest, this sub plot does little to enhance the overall drama and if you decided to skip through their scenes you wouldn’t be missing much. I watched Aya Orapan Phongmaykin (who plays Mook) in Wedding Plan and the two characters she plays are poles apart so I think her cringy character is the director’s choice not hers. Chanya Amarit Duval hasn’t been in much but plays P’Vie’s slightly world weary and jaded personality really well.

The stand out performance for me was Nutthacha Padovan who plays Rak’s niece. She nailed the part of an 13 (?) year old perfectly and there was never a moment of wooden acting from her.

I marked the review rating down slightly as I felt the GL sub plot was a bit pointless and because the music was extremely meh.

Me and Y seem to enjoy linking their productions together- Rak for example, seems to be the author of The Boy Next World amongst others and BossNoeul and Forth Kashane Pichetsopon also pop up in guest and support roles.

Would I watch this again? No as there is so much else I want to watch.

Ps the follow on series ties up a couple of loose ends but doesn’t really add much to the overall story, so for me it was a little pointless
