When Women Lead: The Inspiring Story of Blossoms in Adversity
A tragedy strikes the Hua family where the men were sent to exile and their properties confiscated, leaving the women and children struggling to survive. Hua Zhi, the brave and intelligent young lady of the family steps up to lead them in overcoming and bouncing back from adversity, eventually freeing the men and rebuilding the Hua family's honor. Along the journey, she meets Gu Yan Xi, Commander of the Security Bureau. As they spend time together, love blossoms and they become each other's greatest allies.Blossoms in Adversity is a drama that explores themes of hope, family, love, friendship, gender inequality, business acumen, politics, and even disability. It presents an inspiring story centered on the struggles of women who are forced to step up and take control of their family in the absence of adult male family members. The drama highlights how deeply women relied on men during that period.
The narrative critiques the patriarchal ideology that portrays women as weak or incapable without male presence. This is evident at the beginning of the drama, when the women of the Hua family feel utterly hopeless after their husbands are sent into exile. Believing they have no reason to continue living, some even contemplate suicide. Beyond the Hua family, society also views them as vulnerable due to the absence of men, as shown by people attempting to deceive them and seize what little wealth they have left. It is particularly ironic that the Hua women initially doubt Hua Zhi when she offers to lead the family, yet place their trust in outsiders solely because they are men. This reflects the internalized patriarchal beliefs held by the women themselves. It is frustrating to witness how women come to perceive themselves as less capable than men, despite their own potential and resilience.
Although it was frustrating to see how the women of the Hua family acted at the beginning, there is no doubt that the family shares a close-knit bond. They prioritize family above everything else, including wealth. They are considerate of one another’s feelings and communicate openly. Despite their initial arrogance and differing personalities, the Hua family eventually becomes a compassionate household that is courteous, polite, and respectful toward others. It is especially moving to see the Hua family grant their servants freedom, as well as how the common people come to treat them with sincerity and respect as the story progresses.
I found myself deeply moved by both the emotional triumphs and struggles of this flawed yet endearing family and their servants. On more than one occasion, the story brought me to tears. I was particularly struck by the funeral of a supporting character, made even more powerful by the appearance of an unexpected but significant figure. Throughout the drama, I frequently smiled and celebrated the family’s hard-earned achievements. Despite the family’s harsh circumstances, Blossoms in Adversity ultimately tells a story of hope, illustrating how different women define hope in diverse ways—through independence, divorce, marriage, and love, even when these paths are imperfect and far from ideal.
On top of everything, it was especially inspiring to see the ways in which Hua Zhi led the family to bounce back from adversity—the way she saw opportunities in the simplest of things, the way she encouraged the women and children of the family to participate and work together, and the way she, as a young lady, stepped up to conduct business with experienced businessmen. Everything she did was inspiring. She volunteered to bear all the burden on her small shoulders and took on the role traditionally held by men in leading the family.
Casting Zhang Jin Yi as Hua Zhi was an excellent choice. She brings the youthful yet charismatic charm that perfectly suits the character. Hua Zhi embodies a heroic figure, exemplifying perseverance, steadfast integrity, and diligence. However, as the character with the least amount of growth, she is not without flaws. Her sharp tongue toward the emperor, for instance, brought her family their second adversary.
Zhang Jin Yi truly brought Hua Zhi to life. Her expressive eyes, petite frame, and sharp features perfectly captured the determined young woman Hua Zhi was. Unlike other members of the Hua family, who grew up pampered and spoiled, Hua Zhi possesses a feminine yet tomboyish charm—something Zhang Jin Yi portrayed impressively throughout the series. Her simple, light-colored costumes and makeup further enhanced the character, demonstrating careful attention to detail. I particularly liked the white bracelet Hua Zhi wore; it felt fitting for a young woman who almost singlehandedly restored the Hua family to prosperity.
Another character who grew on me—almost surprisingly—was Gu Yan Xi. As the Commander of the Security Bureau and nephew of the emperor, Gu Yan Xi is intelligent, charismatic, vigilant, and highly skilled in combat, particularly hand-to-hand fighting, which is uncommon in Chinese costume dramas that typically emphasize swordplay.
Hu Yi Tian was excellent in the role. Although his stoic expression left me unimpressed at first, I was gradually won over as it grew on me over time. His tall, fit physique perfectly suits the character of Gu Yan Xi, and his curly hair tied into a ponytail, combined with his puppy-like eyes, adds a soft, almost endearing touch to an otherwise formidable character. I blushed when I saw his large hand gently cover Zhang Jin Yi’s back during their kiss. Despite his stoicism, the chemistry between Gu Yan Xi and Hua Zhi was cute, mature, peaceful, and healthy, making me want to root for them.
Aside from the main characters, the ensemble cast also left a lasting impression on me. I couldn’t help but feel what they were going through, and they made me want to root for them as well. Among them, Shao Yao, Gu Yan Xi's sister, played by Lu Yu Xiao, stood out. Lu Yu Xiao did an excellent job portraying the young, innocent, naive, yet intelligent Shao Yao, who lives with a disability after experiencing trauma.
Apart from the story and characters, the OSTs also played a significant role in the drama. Lonely Flower Amidst Thorns by Curley Gao often accompanies scenes where the family works together toward triumphs, evoking heartfelt joy. Night and Day by Liu Zhijia and Baby.J also left a lasting impression. Additionally, the OST Cloudy Green by Zhang Yunjia and Zhang Lejia, which plays at the end of the episodes, is so cute! It adds a warm, familial touch to the drama.
That is not to say that this drama is without flaws. One of my biggest production gripes was the overuse of dramatic sound effects. Every time a character said something impactful, an exaggerated echo would play, which felt cheesy and distracting rather than enhancing the scene. Similarly, the show occasionally froze the frame on multiple characters’ faces during climactic moments, as if turning them into still photographs for dramatic effect—another choice that came off as overly theatrical.
Overall, Blossoms in Adversity is a captivating and heartfelt drama that leaves a lasting impression. Despite some over-the-top production choices, the story, characters, and performances shine brilliantly. The journey of Hua Zhi and her family is both inspiring and emotionally resonant, showcasing resilience, love, and hope in the face of immense adversity. The chemistry between the main characters, the depth of the ensemble cast, and the thoughtfully chosen OSTs all contribute to making the drama a rich and immersive experience. At its core, Blossoms in Adversity is a celebration of courage, family bonds, and the quiet yet powerful ways women can lead, support, and transform their world—even in a society that often underestimates them. It is a drama that moves, entertains, and inspires long after the final episode ends.

One of example how to create plain story into wonderful gem.
I love Guo Yuxin and this is Liu Haoqun first vertical drama without Jiang Shiqi as his partner. I lowered my expectation since i always Liu Haoqun on comedy but surprisingly i liked their chemistry better than few of Guo Yuxin popular pairing. As expected from queen of chemistry. They feel like old married couple and their 90's are quite fashionable and not look tacky. The plot is somewhat generic and cliche. FL aka Yang Chun Rong got forced to marry Mafia King but ML aka Lu Bing He
shows as his knight and somewhat FL accept ML marriage proposal and the sweet journey of love begin.
Liu Haoqun successfully delivers as Lu Bing He who looks cool but warm inside. The micro expression is on point and few of usual short drama actor could do that. Guo Yuxin are quite keen on choosing script she can make plain script into great story and its rare for actress from short drama to do that (the one is Han Yutong).
The minor flaw on the plot is about ML father who passed away and his friend going to jail for small amount of money. They could do it better with that plot.
Overall still recommend to watch for everyone.

Time travel not easy to conceptualize
Not sure if these are spoilers......................................After watching this drama, I have some misgivings about the whole plot. Something is amiss, and the timeline is vague and obscure. It got so ridiculous that they both have 2 past abduction scenes(her wearing school uniform and another scene of her wearing yellow.) and 2 present situations( both of her being able to walk, not a paraplegic anymore. Present MALE LEAD, Ryu, rekindles the relationship and another he who has no memory of imsol at all). Now, imo, both multiverse of the characters being presented in one universe is a bad idea. Characters in this story SHOULD BE in one universe. they can exist in another universe but they should not exist at the same time, imo. This drama does this, and it gets a fatal flaw following that kind of storyline. It gets so messy to the point that many plotholes are bound to happen.Inconsistencies are here and there.
1) in the earlier episodes, everytime she mentions about the future, " time freezes" and ryu seonjae can't hear what she has just told him nor can see the texts that she has written. Then in the middle episodes, she has successfully told him about his dying," time freeze" was not doing its magic. Lol. overriding what has happened in the prior episodes.
she Is a paraplegic in the past[(2009), maybe caused by her being abducted? The series didn't specifically give the reason why she became paralyzed down].she should remain in that condition in all "present scenes(2022)". I got surprised why she could walk all of a sudden without forewarning in the present ( looks like in episode 7 when she thought she was in ancient goryeo)from the middle and to forward episodes. She was wheelchair bound in 2022 (present)when she watched ryu's concert. She got to see the announcement of his death on the big screen outside the concert venue. So from her hospital stay in 2009 till present 2022 , she can't move from the waist down. It was that long since that way, 13 years to be exact! So how come she can walk again? That beats me!
The plot deals on how she could save her idol, Ryuseonjae, who has inspired her to live her life and not be despondent about her condition, but instead, what the storyline gave us as the past is more on her abduction( why 2 abductions? It should only be 1!) and did not delve on the cause of the suicide of Ryu or murder of Ryu( storyline did not touch this topic at all) so she might have prevented it!
But anyway, the death of Ryu has come to pass and it could never have been prevented because one can't undo a past action. The latter episodes became more ridiculous because Ryu has come alive and totally becomes amnesiac on his relationship with imsol. This is one BIG plothole of the story( done so they can have many romantic thrilling moments together?,lol)
The events that have unfolded is not because of the novel imsol has been drafting. Imsol wrote the novel based on what she has experienced in the last 15 years. It is not the novel dictating the events in imsol's life, imo. And to me, granny has beginning alzheimer's, nothing more to it. She is not a time traveller, imo.
I would like to mention that I don't like Kim hyeyoon's getting her eyes look BIGGER , in surprise, or in anything she does. She is over-acting quite a bit here. Funny how many times I have counted when she is doing THIS facial expression!
So I STILL I cant get it. Were the 2 years( it was mentioned 15 years gap. 2009 is the year of her accident and 2022 is when Ryu committed suicide, so 13 years apart and 2 years as neighbors,2007-2009)of living as neighbors mean they know each other and are a couple?( romantic moments together) or they don't know each other?( imsol blatantly said she doesn't know Ryu and the band Eclipse during a phone in call in her hospital room and when she avoided meeting Ryu during her last time travel so they didn't get to know each other). I'm still at a loss here. The more logical thought would be that they don't know each other and then proceed to get to know each other till they become a couple. But this will NEGATE somehow the" time travel" concept of the storyline. It will make all those earlier episodes wasted! That's why I said that time travel is hard to form as a drama series because it is very abstract and somehow hard to conceptualize. It really needs a good directing and screenplay to pull it off nicely. One title I have in mind is the Chinese drama " shining for you( shown in 2022)" which is done so well!
Some things( surely not the messy plot)rescued this drama. It gave us many comedic relief moments in between, like the competition of the men for imsol's attention, the lottery scene wherein it showed the reason why their win is so low, the condom issue, the brother's "role-as-an-actor scene in the hospital to name a few. I have enjoyed these scenes so much to give a passing 5 score on this drama. ( If it were not for these funny scenes, this drama is a fail in story presentation).
I grade dramas based on the freq uency of plotholes, as well as inconsistencies to the storyline. There should also be " continuation" and free flow of the storyline and character development. Cheesy romantic moments are not what I come for in a drama

Typhoon drama
OMG, Typhoon Family completely stole my heart 😭💖. I went in expecting just another family/business drama, and suddenly I was crying into my snacks 🍿😭 and shipping them like crazy 💕. Kang Tae-poong is this annoyingly charming guy who’s forced to grow up way too fast when he takes over his dad’s struggling company during the 90s financial crisis . You can’t help but root for him through every mess-up and awkward moment. And then there’s Oh Mi-seon—smart, organized, kind, basically the adulting hero we all need . Their slow-burn relationship? Pure perfection 😍. The little teasing moments, awkward tension, and genuine care hit all the right feels .The cast is amazing . Lee Jun-ho nails that clueless-but-lovable charm while showing real emotional depth 🥺, and Kim Min-ha makes Mi-seon feel so grounded and relatable 💕. Even the side characters are memorable, hilarious , dramatic , or just plain adorable , which makes the world feel alive and full.
Also, the 90s setting is everything 🕹️👗📟. The fashion, the tech, the vibe of living through a financial crisis—it’s nostalgic but also adds real stakes to the story ⚡. Sure, some episodes drag a little with repeated setbacks, but honestly, that just gives you more time to obsess over the OTPs 💑💖.
If you love crying , laughing , shipping your heart out 💘, and getting emotionally wrecked in the best way 💔✨, Typhoon Family is a must-watch 🎬💯. Total 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Most reliable blockbuster short drama.
I am fans of both actor Liu Xiaoxu and Guo Yuxin. Guo Yuxin has chemistry with everyone. Its rare to have spin-off short drama since this is part of Wang Gege and He Jianqi story (they make cameo appearance) and both quality are great. The pace of the plot is quite slow but it is not boring due both actor great skill. The plot is about ML who got marriage arrangement with FL who has free spirited mind. FL was afraid to fall in love and quite confident she wont fall for ML but yeah she falls in love with ML and run away from him. ML who cannot expressed his feeling to FL quite devastated when FL leave him and tried to win her back.
I like cinematography of cameramen, it was quite melodramatic and feel so subtle.
The Up and Downs feeling are there and its quite frustrating and i always surprised how they get better chemistry on screen. I doubt if there is another remake would beat this version.

Ok great face but not my taste.
Before you could attack me. I am fan of Both actor. Their gorgeous face are complimenting each other. But i wish they could get more tragic drama with Bad Ending. I tried to watch since i have expectation of angst feeling but the scene was too draggy. ML backstory is well written but i couldn't stan FL character. Their chemistry is okay the kiss was fine but not make me fluttering. The duration of drama make me sleep and too lazy to done the drama. Dropped. Was this review helpful to you?
A Must-Watch Revenge Drama of 2025
The Twenty-Four Strategies of Chang’an is a tightly written revenge drama that rewards patience and close attention. Its narrative relies on dense plotting, where dialogue and character interactions quietly lay the foundation for later developments. Rather than delivering instant gratification, the series builds tension through careful pacing and strategic restraint. What sets the drama apart is its treatment of revenge—not as a heroic or romantic pursuit, but as a long-term emotional burden. The story emphasizes endurance, calculation, and emotional cost, gradually guiding its characters toward isolation and internal fracture. This approach gives the narrative a sense of realism and weight that lingers well after each episode.
Cheng Yi’s performance as Xie Huaian is a major highlight. His acting is understated and controlled, relying on subtle expressions and timing rather than overt emotion. As the plot unfolds, the character’s presence grows heavier, adding depth and credibility to the overall story.
From a technical perspective, the production remains consistently strong. The visuals are composed and restrained, while the soundtrack supports emotional peaks without overwhelming the scenes. There are no obvious weak points in execution, resulting in a cohesive and polished viewing experience.
Overall, this is a drama that does not cater to binge-watching or fast-forwarding. However, for viewers willing to engage with its deliberate pacing, The Twenty-Four Strategies of Chang’an offers depth, emotional impact, and a lasting impression. Among 2025 revenge dramas, it stands out as a highly recommended watch.

Bittersweet love
⚠️⚠️⚠️Invested all in, and then the producers /directors decide just to kill off one of the main characters. 😢
After everything they went through as well.
I really don't like stories like this. I hate crappy endings.
They should just have stayed away after they ran away.
That village and everyone was weird a bit.
No wonder they had to run off.
This story had too mang characters, was a bit confusing. The scenery was beautiful.
The kisses was beautiful, the music was so so. There was some loud assed cricket that I paused the story a few times, wondering if it was by me. 😁
The chick that was in love with Loy all the years and he never returning it, just how dumb and blind must you be not to realize they don't want you. 🤷♀️
Also did those 3 dudes kill that other chick. Cause she also disappeared from the village?
The part with that mom and her son / daughter, she hates on him first, then all loving, what the heck.
Kaew and Loy loved each other since they were tiny, and really deserved a happy ending.
And the ending, so what happens to the ass that shot him, and did Kaew go away again or stay there. I wouldn't, that place was bad for them. Although they had such great memories there.
Also the other characters, there's no growth telling you who else ended up with who etc.
I feel this series had so much more potential. Why let the main character die !!

twinkling watermelon shein version
This is Twinkling Watermelon shein version (because they only spend of stellar casts instead for refining the plot).I love the cast especially the MLs but the FLs they always got me hit and miss sometimes and i prefer Li Keyi in this role more than her grandma role so her acting is pass while Yuyin got her chemistry better with Zhang Chi. For their performance i would rate like this: Zhang Chi>>>>>>>>>>Li Keyi=Wang Yilei>>Yuyin.
This could be the best campus drama if they didn't leave many plot holes about how FL and ML life after time traveling did they together, if FL is actually went to FL mom school after time travel, and FL mother's current destiny after time travel.
Regardless of all the flaw, it still watchable.

WHAT A GEM! But criminally underrated!
What an unconventional beauty! Watching this drama will take you on a different level in comparison to the usual chinese drama made for entertainment and couple-romance-centric dramas that are trending. Revenge story but has its own charm-not tiring not repetitive cliched storyline. Though short it adds to the charm. The cast did justice to the well-written, gripping script writing. Its aesthetic is different and complements the tone of the story. The struggles are worth the struggle as a simple way to put the whole vibe of the story. The cast are splendid- the chemistry, acting and special mention to the sweet baby girl what an actress at such a young age! The story of the two leads-describes that sometimes love is not all about rainbows and butterflies- but in reality, it's about saving and being saved from yourselves. The two leads have fantastic chemistry-underrated even hope they have another collaboration. Such chemistry is such a waste to be ignored. Was this review helpful to you?

The Current He Jingzou-Lin Wu with refined plot.
Its my first time seeing Gao Mingchen and Qi Wenting, this is my first review for them. The Plot is about FL aka Lin Wu is meeting ML aka He Jingzhou and his assistant is being her customer(She works as convenience store cashier). She met ML again with help of ML friend. She knew ML has white moonlight who already has relationship with ML friend so she offers herself to have girlfriend contract and pretend to have crush with ML friend while she only loves ML.
I feel Qi Wenting is shown her rookie soul with her stiffness and lack of emotion on few scenes while Gao Mingchen creating He Jingzhou persona being playful and know boundaries. He can reject female advances clearly so there is no green tea attached to him/.The chemistry is 50:50 while the ML is trying hard with no effort FL but still watchable because of refined plot. They added FL family backstory especially her mother which previous version didn't show why FL personality is like that and shown FL poverty and her shabby room. The plot is most fast compare to previous version.
There is many version of this story but this is my personal favorite of ML characterization compare to other version.
Recommend if you want to dynamic duo and watch well-written ML.

The worst of the worst
Very very disappointing. I waited so long for this with high expectations and this is what I have to watch?1. The audio sucks. Almost all the dialogues are dubbed. Dubbing is fine, but the dubbing in this drama does not match with the video. In some scenes, the background sounds are leaking which makes the dubbing sound smaller. Very sloppy and messy. Even the music I think is really bad. It does not match with the overall situation.
2. Weak story plot. I’m so confused with this one, as literally nothing happened in the drama. The plot has no depth at all, very surface level, and also no progression. It’s all just a montage of them doing the thing, and then going to school, and then doing it again, and then cook, and then doing it again. Like what the fuck am I watching? There’s no progression at all with their story. They just suddenly fell in love with each other wtf.
3. Weak worldbuilding. This one is just funny for me. Did anyone realize that the art class our MC go to only has 2 students and no teacher? LMAO. I also realized on one scene, it was suppose to be night time, but there are sunlight coming in from the window. ?????? wtf.
4. This drama is filled with NC scenes so you would think that AT LEAST the NC scenes would be good right? Nope. Not even the slightest good. I do have to give it to them because yes their NC scenes are crazier than other korean bl dramas. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s good. The NC scenes look sloppy and messy af. A lot of repeated actions in one scene, where it could just end quick but nope they have to elongate it which makes the scene flop. I also think they put too much of these scenes. They should’ve lessen the NC scenes and make more ‘normal’ romantic scenes so at least the plot have more depth.
5. Can’t even be sad for the MC when the mom’s health got worse. Yes duh because we don’t even get to see the mom. How am I suppose to feel sad when there’s nothing to be sad of?
Dare I say it, there is nothing to like from this drama✋😬🤚. Oh maybe there is one thing. The actors are very good-looking and their acting is not the best, but not that bad. So, this one is a whooping 1/10 for me. Sorry.

The First He Jingzou-Lin Wu that stills win for me
Its my first time seeing Luo Mai Yi works and i quite familiar with Wang Ziyi works. I quite like her but she always deliver fake kisses or 0,1 second peck. The Plot is about FL aka Lin Wu is meeting ML aka He Jingzhou who was her first love wants to kill someone and feel scared she pretends to being fine until ML and his assistant is being her customer(She works as convenience store cashier). Feeling scared, she almost make mistake while his assistant is being nosy about ML relationship since he tends to broke up for 3 months. She found ML beloved keychain and want to return it. She met ML again with help of ML friend. She knew ML has white moonlight who already has relationship with ML friend so she offers herself to have girlfriend contract and pretend to have crush with ML friend while she only loves ML.
Wang Ziyi doing great job to portrayed timid and insecure FL while Luo Maiyi creating He Jingzhou persona like Tsundere (Fierce outside, Love sick fool inside) and emotional stable person. Love how he called "Princess:, "Baby" to "Wife" while FL wants to stick for previous relationship agreement, she tried to not get excited about ML fluttering action. The chemistry is okay they got fluttering kisses since its campus drama. ML regret for not confessing to FL and doing ridiculous relationship with other is on point.
There is many version of this story but this is my personal favorite since FL in here quite superior instead another one while ML is still debatable and depends of how you want to view this story.
Recommend if you want to see secret love with slightly sweet taste.

Amazing neighborhood shenanigans. Close to perfect blend of comedy + action!
This is one of my favorites of the year! I want more of this kind or similar.Every character nailed their part, even the minor ones! The story while simple enough, is written in a way that was refreshing, touching and so so so funny even with some inconsistencies and plot holes! I laugh out loud in many scenes through all the episodes.
The ML was on point in his delivery of a former bad*** agent, who now simply wants to be a neighborhood dad and friend. That brings me to the part i loved the most: The friendship and interaction amongst the characters was very good, they all had great chemistry and ...did I mention FUNNY together. I truly had a blast watching them and you will too.
