This show is a very bad message for the youth

This show is a very bad message for the youth. It is like encouraging people to virtual relationships in virtual world. That is so
sad, and is very bad. There is no real physical connection, no real love. it is not realistic. It is just isolating people. And AI is very bad and dangerous.
And Koreans are very weird when comes to relationships and love. They behave so strange and like little kids. I saw a lot of Korean series and seems they do not know what is real love, what is passion, what is expressing and living the sexuality.

No Kisses? No Problem

Kissing scenes? Yeah, don't hold your breath. It's Ren Jia Lun. What do you expect? The guy is basically famous for not kissing his co-stars—except for maybe one or two dramas I can think of. But you know what? I still totally loved this series. And I say that as someone who usually craves romance. For me, the love here is quiet and real. It's in the way they care for each other, not in big passionate moments. Lu Qian Qiao's love for Xin Mei, and her love for him? Undeniable.

The story itself is completely captivating. It starts as a xianxia fantasy, but its message hits close to home today: how the powerful and greedy elites will tear apart the world just to live forever. That part really sticks with the audience.

Lu Qian Qiao is a war ghost—an immortal with insane physical strength. But the trade-off is, he can't taste, feel, or see the way humans do. His world has no color. Even though he loves painting, everything he creates is gray. Food tastes disgusting to him—except wine. He can't feel pain. His wounds heal instantly. And worst of all, he doesn't die. He just watches the people he cares about grow old and slip away, over and over. That's his torture. So while others fight to become immortals, he fights to become human. It's such a beautiful, heartbreaking role reversal.

Xin Mei's first encounter with him is both hilarious and heartwarming. She has this curse: marry three men, and each one will die young. But she's kind-hearted. So instead of letting a good, worthy man be her third husband and die, she chooses a sinful one. At that moment, Lu Qian Qiao is in prison waiting for his execution. To her, he's perfect. And coincidentally, he's also looking for a bride as the first step in his plan to become human.

So the knot is tied early. It's a marriage of convenience—each with their own secret goal. But very quickly, it becomes so much more. Love. Trust. A deep yearning for each other.

Ren Jia Lun as Lu Qian Qiao is wonderful. His costumes and hairstyling are gorgeous (no weird helmet head), and his fight choreography is clean, sharp, and believable. His dialogue is simple, but every word feels honest and meaningful. His character is so powerful that every time he shows up, you just know everything's going to be okay.

Wang He Run as Xin Mei is amazing too. She has this sweet, innocent smile you won't forget. Unlike the other cultivators, she's genuinely kind. But when she needs to protect the people she loves, her eyes turn sharp—almost unrecognizable. And when she unleashes her full power, she becomes this fierce, brutal force of justice, cutting down evil without mercy. Wang He Run played that transformation perfectly.

All the good guys are incredibly lovable, and the villains, truly awful (in the best way). Every actor made their role believable. Bravo to the whole cast. You can also see the detail and hard work in every scene setting—it just adds to the viewing pleasure.

Overall, this is a drama rather well done. Don't let the current 8.0 rating fool you. Honestly? Though the storyline may be a bit predictable, that score doesn't do it justice—especially when you see other, weaker shows rated higher.

Don't miss this one!

Painful, haunting, and beautifully done

Underrated drama.

From beginning to end, "Light to the Night" is exceptionally well executed, with a tight and purposeful plot that never feels dragged out or unnecessarily complicated. Every episode builds naturally on the last, slowly revealing the heavy emotions behind the story while keeping the tension and mystery compelling throughout.

What impressed me most, however, was the acting. Dylan Wang delivers one of his strongest performances yet and once again proves how versatile he is as an actor. He convincingly carries every stage of his character’s life. Pan Yue Ming and Ren Min shine as well , and the performances across the cast feel authentic. The production also deserves credit for how naturally these transitions were handled. The styling and makeup changes are subtle rather than overdone, helping each version of the character feel believable, which makes the emotional moments hit even harder.

One of the drama’s biggest strengths is its storytelling structure. The narrative moves between three different timelines — the original disappearance in 1997, new discoveries connected to the case in 2002, and the eventual resolution years later in 2015. The transitions between these periods are handled incredibly well and often placed side by side in ways that deepen the emotional and investigative impact of a scene. Small details become meaningful when mirrored across timelines, such as revisiting the same location years apart and seeing how differently a moment unfolds with new context. It is a smart and immersive way of telling the story, though it definitely requires viewers to pay close attention in order to fully appreciate how all the pieces connect together.

Despite the heaviness of the plot, the drama also does a good job weaving humor naturally into the story. The lighter moments never feel forced or out of place. Instead, they provide small moments of warmth and relief. The humor helps balance the emotional intensity of the series without ever undermining the seriousness of the story.

The music is also used effectively. The soundtrack and instrumental pieces never overwhelm the scenes, but instead quietly deepen the emotions, especially during the reflective and heartbreaking moments. Some scenes linger long after they end because the combination of acting, directing, and music is done so well.

What makes the drama especially powerful is that the emotional conflicts are not driven by simple villains or forced misunderstandings, but by people genuinely trying to protect the ones they care for - only to end up hurting them in the process. The show captures that tragic side of humanity so well: how love, fear, guilt, and good intentions can become destructive when people make choices for others .

By the end, the tragic outcome feels inevitable yet still absolutely devastating. This is a mature, emotionally layered story with strong performances, thoughtful directing, and real emotional impact. Painful, haunting, and beautifully done.

Dare I say holy peak

I'm not gonna lie, when I saw the trailer I was bit skeptical because the story looked way too complicated and that they would just drag out the plot for far too long, but boy was I wrong.
The plot line was not at all complicated and the acting was amazing. I am not someone who usually cries while watching shows, heck I'm the kind of person to laugh when the characters cry, but watching VOS I cried at least 10 times. Especially when we found out about Ji Ling's past. He was just a little fox who had to carry such a big burden for so long.
Usually whenever I watch C dramas the main stars are always the actors and the plot line, but honestly for me the main star of this show was the OST. Even if you don't end up watching the show itself go listen to the OST because it is an absolute masterpiece. "Not suffering" by Tian Jiarui and Ju Jingyu and "As innocent as a fox" by Tian Jiarui, I have no words to describe what I feel when I listen to these song. Especially after you find out what the lyrics mean they just hit different. I feel like I'm reliving the plot every time I listen to the full OST playlist.
Overall, all I'm gonna say is go watch it, 'cause you might regret it later if you don't.

That was awesome!

If you’re not into true crime, you might find this one a bit slow, but I honestly enjoyed it so much. The production value is great, and the way they actually show the autopsy process is so cool, it feels very detailed and well-researched.

Regarding the romance, I’d say the leads definitely have chemistry, but it felt a little lacking for me. That might just be because I was way more invested in the mystery and the medical genius aspect of the plot than the love story.

This was actually my first Li Landi drama (I’m a long-time Ao Ruipeng fan!), and she really impressed me. She’s very pretty and did a great job playing a brilliant medical mind. I think I’m definitely going to look for another one of her dramas to watch next.

Overall Rating:
I’d recommend this if you love true crime, thrillers, or stories with a lot of political intrigue. It’s definitely worth a watch!

PS: I loved their wedding and their wedding dresses. They also gave plot twists after plot twists.

Brilliant leads trapped in preachy, propaganda-laden nonsense

I can’t give this more than a 2/10, and honestly, those two points belong entirely to the lead actors. Ren Jialun and Wang Herun do an absolutely fantastic job with the garbage script they were handed. Their chemistry is great, the fight choreography in the early episodes is epic, and they genuinely try to elevate the material.
Unfortunately, the story itself is an absolute farce. I was completely hooked by episode three when the female lead started kicking serious arse, but the narrative immediately collapses under the weight of heavy-handed, sugarcoated state propaganda. The moral messaging here is completely broken. We are forced to sit through infuriating levels of injustice, only for the male lead to let a despicable, traitorous tyrant of an Emperor off the hook just to preserve societal stability. It is insultingly preachy. Instead of a satisfying story driven by common human decency or earned justice, the script treats the audience like idiots. It uses lazy, industrialised tropes to drag out a bloated, frustrating plot just to meet an episode quota.
If you want a smart historical drama where actions have real consequences and bad people actually get punished, avoid this at all costs. Don't let the high production values or the great cast trick you into wasting 40 episodes on this formulaic, compliant nonsense.

A story which is a warm hug set during China’s era of cultural change and reform.

The love I have for this drama is truly something else, as Love Story in the 1970’s turned out to be a very different experience than what I originally expected going in. If anything, it became an experience I valued all the more.

A lot of the reviews I’ve read pride this show for the comfort it left them feeling whilst watching, and yes, there is comfort to it But it is not all that the show has to offer. While Fang Mu Yang and Fei Ni’s relationship throughout the series is one that is akin to being wrapped in a blanket, for me it was also the time period that made this show special. Love Story in the 1970’s is set throughout a heavily political period for China’s history, a time which was built within a strict communist regime which later broke with China's Cultural Revolution. While I won’t comment much on the shows address of this difficult time period in the larger sense of the world it paints in the background, what really stood with me was the bond of family throughout the story, and how even with some of the harsh setbacks and difficulties that the characters were faced with, that theme and bond was still a strong one that the characters held and carried with them throughout. This is a show which encourages further reading to fully understand the context of the struggles these characters face, especially during some the moments towards the middle of the show which pull even more from true history - such as the disastrous Tonghai earthquake.

The cast do a superb job throughout with their performances - I cannot think of a single person who fell flat. Even the characters you don’t necessarily want to root for are brought to life wonderfully, and some you even grow to love as their own story arcs develop with the shows growth. Arthur Chen and Sun Qian are standouts; Sun Qian’s Fei Ni is headstrong and determined, whilst also carrying a charm of heart about her that makes her so likeable to the viewer. Arthur Chen brings just as much charm to his Fang Mu Yang, whilst also bringing him to life with a strong resilience to pick himself up time and time again against all the hardships his character faces. In fact, that seems to be one of the main strengths and themes running throughout this show - resilience in the face of a time of great poverty and hardship.

If you love dramas that offer not only a lovely story of family and the bonds that tie us but which are also rich in history - so much so they encourage a desire to learn more about the time period and just how truly difficult it was for many and how the scars left behind from it remain embedded within families even today - please do yourself a favour and check this show out. I am so surprised by how rich it ended up being, so much so that Love Story in the 1970’s remains a little treasure among the vast number of titles out there.

ITS SO SHORT! BUT I LUV IT!!!

The story and plot is so goooddd It deserves a much longer series like that's it? what kind of ending was that? 😢😔 You mean they just move on with their lives not confessing to each other and clearly they know that they like each other. 😔😢

This is so sad because I relate to it do you ever got that one crush that you cannot confess to because you are afraid of being rejected or being one-sided well, this series is for youuu! 🤩🤩😭😔

Anyways why did Fern do that??? 😔😢 did she think like "If I can't have him, nobody can" 😔😢😭🥺

Toxicity Meets Inevitability

there is something so immediate and tense In the way, the story unfolds. The male leads's ferocity Will take you by surprise and admittedly, is a little offputting. It relies on some of the semantics we've seen in other dramas of this kind, But the interplay between the male leads has me riveted. I've only watched the first four episodes, so it's very possible. They won't stick the landing but right now, this is a must watch.

The second couple tap dances on the line of being very tropey, But manages to never cross it. The second male lead artist is an enigma of a character. I can't wait to see his true motivations be revealed.

This was an incredibly intense series. Every minute was put to fantastic use, keeping me on the edge of my seat. The acting from both Ji Chang-wook and Wi Ha-jun was beyond good. I especially loved Ji Chang-wook’s performance; as a viewer, you live through all his fear, anger, and anxiety, as well as the struggle of maintaining his undercover cover while his wife is pulled into the investigation.

The supporting cast, the fight choreography, and the writing were all great too. The only thing I didn't like was the ending, as I prefer happy endings. Despite that, it was a fantastic watch.

One of the Few Times Where the 2nd Season Beats the 1st

Unlike in the 1st season, where I felt the middle falter, this season kept my attention from start to finish. Nothing dragged, and the acting was much improved from the 1st season. The people behind this story have my respect because not only are the characters interesting and nuanced, but the overarching plot constantly holds your attention.

The stakes are bigger, the villains are worse and more powerful, the world is bigger and has more characters, the tension is more palpable than before, and yet, nothing falters. The pacing is great and the storytelling impeccable. Every arc, every character, every new twist adds to what this story is. It was utterly fantastic

The Characters
Win - I continue to find him wholly unlikeable. A genius, yes, but I would hate to call him a friend. Or have him as a boss, for that matter. But the story hinges on him and his past, so he's not going anywhere. The only thing I want from him is for him to open up a bit more.

So far, he's like a slow-blooming onion (if that makes any sense). We know he's angry, always brooding, and has an emotional support water bottle, but not much else. I want him to talk for once. Talk to his mother, and for the love of Christ, talk to Game. Their friendship is one of the most confusing situations I've ever come across. Does Win even like Game? Coz I don't think so

Game - In all fairness, I'd be afraid to have Game in my close circle of friends. Throughout the 1st season, I kept referring to him as 'the weak link' in my head. And now, 8 extra episodes later, that statement remains true. He walks through life with his emotions first, thoughts later. Quite the opposite of Win, actually. Perhaps this is why they clash so much.

I, however, would love to see his familial story explored a bit more. If the 3rd season were to happen, I wonder if his family would come into play. Not only are they rich as hell, but the game would now be played at a national level. I think it'd be interesting to use them.

Dear & Dol - I knew they would likely not go to the US, but I did not expect or anticipate the reason why...😭

In the 1st season, Dear always had one leg in the scamming and another out, trying to forge a life outside the mess with her 2 friends. I loved that we got a chance to see what her life would've been like if she had left them behind. Her ending was really heartbreaking, though. I know the good guys cannot always win without taking a loss or two, but this one.... This one hurt.

Dol, his senior monk, was right. The world outside monkhood is truly where all the temptations and crap lie. From realizing that he has zero skills to survive in the world, to getting scammed by his coworkers, having his hope about his love for and with Dear reignited, to finally losing her in the end. Bruh... the man has been through it. It is no wonder he went back to being a forest monk in the end.

It was lovely seeing these two together, though. The slow burn and subtle tension between them was delicious and a much-appreciated break from the mess that was Dear's two other friends. I do wonder, though - for the 1st season, Dol has always been connected to Dear. Now that she's gone, what are the chances of us seeing him in another installment?

Ae - I love an interesting villain. I appreciated that we got to see her backstory. She's no angel. Ae is a corrupt politician to the core. But getting to see her family life shed a light on why she's partially who she is today. Why she goes as far as she does. That man she unfortunately calls a father and her liability of a brother, both of whom never appreciated her, undermined her, and stole from her, really did push her to be who she was.
PS. I clapped when she shot her brother.

I do have questions about her, though
a. I believe she managed to leave the country. Will she return in the possible third season? I suspect she ordered the hit on Dear. Will she ever pay for that? The lawyer who conned the 3 in the 1st season went scot free, so part of me doubts she'll get what she deserves
b. Will the law manage to hold her father? There is overwhelming evidence against him, but if money can grease hands that much within religion, can we expect the already shitty, corrupt system to look the other way?

Ekkachai - He continues to prove that he's a snake and more dangerous than we think. The season ends with him finally getting the Abbot seat that he wanted. But things are not rosy. He's being bullied and blackmailed. However, rather than feel bad for him, I want to tell the other monks to watch their backs. He's slowly been gathering public support, and he's not afraid to kill.

We know he killed Father Kiw in the 1st season. I highly suspect he personally killed the woman who was trying to blackmail him, and had the deputy abbot who'd have taken his place killed. Now with his proximity to the unseen minister in the end credits, the hospital project likely proceeding in his name only, and his history, I believe he will be a lot worse in the 3rd season (if we ever get it). Those blackmailing and bossing him around will regret it

PS: I desperately wish I understood the meaning of the art we see at the beginning of the episodes

Please do another drama with the same leads. The best child actor ever.

Things I adored

1 The child who played the son of the couple. Oh, my God, I never ever fell in love with a child actor as much as with that child. Every scene he was in he shined. I wish him a great career and every happiness in the world because he made me smile and laugh so many times. His chemistry with his "parents" was perfect. Honestly if you hesitate about watching this series please watch it just for him. Adorable, natural, perfect and that comes from someone who avoids series with children usually.

2 The FL. I'm ashamed to say it but I discarded a few series with her at the beginning because I didn't find she had charisma. Then I watched a few episodes of My Page in the 90's after Love Between the Lines and thought she wasn't bad, but I still haven't finished this drama. That led me to My Lover Friend, though, and she was exceptionally good. I fell in love with her natural acting, she can do anything well, and then starting looking for her other series. Now she became one of my favorite actresses and in this series she was great. She nailed every aspect. The friendship scenes, the business scenes, the sad, the happy scenes, but she was the best as a mom and as a lover. Absolutely phenomenal.

3 The ML. At first I thought he wasn't my type. I liked him in Guess Who I am, but the female lead and the ending ruined it for me, so I didn't give him a second chance. But then this series came, and I fell in love with him as much as with the FL. Now I'll check his dramas, and I hope I find another one with the same tone because he excelled in playing the childish grown man, all the while being protective and warm, and his acting is so natural I believe him in every role.

4 The chemistry. I adored the chemistry in the My Lover Friend, but here it was even better. Every scene was perfection. If you told me they are friends or a couple I would have believed you right away. I think this is the best chemistry I've ever seen between a couple and that is the standard now for me about chemistry. Please do another modern drama together.

Things I loved

1 The premise. I love second chance trope and when you add the business component I'm all in. I hesitated though because there was a kid involved, but the pictures convinced me to start it, and once the child appeared I was gone.

2 The friendship between the FL and the 2FL. Business partners, mature women who trust and support each other. I'm there for it.

3 The third ML. At first I wasn't fond of him, you can imagine why. But I ended up loving him and wanted him to be happy. I enjoyed his rivalry with the ML and that they became friends. Not only that but I found him quite handsome. I've seen comments about how the FL led him on, but I didn't see anything like that. She considered him a friend and she never led him on. That he was in love wasn't her fault, and I'm happy they ended that soon enough to enjoy their friendship without that hanging over their head. I also loved that he cared genuinely about the kid.

4 The outfits of both leads. I pay attention to the outfits and in the other series the FL has with the same ML her outfits are horrible. Here they were great. As for the ML he's good in everything he wears, but here he had some great suits.

Things I liked

1 The 2 FL. She is beautiful and I wanted her to be happy. I didn't like her with the 2ML though. Their relationship fell flat and I fast forwarded their scenes after a while. That said, she was a great friend and I loved her relationship with the FL. She was also a great godmother and I loved her scenes with the child.

2 The 3FL. I'm not sure why some people hate her. I liked her from start to finish. She liked him and was honest. Why is that a problem? She didn't do anything to create issues between him and the FL. She was sometimes too insisting but she didn't cause any harm and she bowed out gracefully when she realized he was in love with the FL. To be honest, I was happy to see him groveling after she rejected him. She deserved to be loved by someone who was clear about his feelings. Kudos to her. She was also beautiful and kind and I loved her relationship with the little kid.

Things I disliked

1 The 2ML. Unfortunately he didn't work for me. He is the reason I give a 9.5 and not a 10 to the series when if there was only the main couple it would have been a 20. I don't like the trope older woman younger man in general, and here it wasn't as bad as in other dramas, but I still found him too young. It felt like I was watching an 18 year old with a 35 year old woman. He didn't convince me he was mature enough for a relationship, even though he was a good guy.

Things I hated

1 Well, if I hated them it means they did a good job, but I still want to say how much I hated the characters of the two male villains. I'm happy they paid for their actions and I wish we'd see more of their suffering. Despicable, horrible characters and I'm glad the drama addressed the sexual harassment at work. It could be better, but at least it wasn't glossed over and they spent quite a time on this.

2 The lover of the villain. What a stupid woman who wasted her life on someone like him. I'm happy she came to her senses but a little too late for me. Covering a sexual harassment is never something I can forgive. You must be out of your mind to do that. But I was happy she could change and help the leads get him down.

Cats and Slowburn Romance

This series is so cute. The moment the trailer came out, I got really excited because I’m such a cat lover. Bonus pa that the actors are also some of my favorites. 😻

I can actually relate to this series a little because I have three cats myself. Cats really don’t like changes since they’re very routine-based animals. Sometimes they don’t even want their food or litter changed. If you feed them late, they might suddenly pee or poop somewhere else. It’s not revenge — it’s usually stress. Cats are very sensitive to changes in their environment.

That’s why I appreciated how accurate and well-researched this series is when it comes to cat behavior. Like John Wick peeing or pooping everywhere even though he’s litter-trained — that can actually mean a cat is sick or stressed, or maybe the litter box is dirty. And the part about him having a UTI is also very realistic because UTIs are common in male cats.

I also love the small details, like the slow blinking. If a cat slow blinks at you, it means they trust you, love you, and feel safe around you. Kudos to the researchers and writers for making the cats feel realistic and not just “cute props” in the story. Even the cats themselves are so well-behaved and honestly feel like real actors too, haha. Ang cute nila sobra. 😹

The series is a bit slow-paced, including the romance, but because of the cats and the overall story, it still makes you excited for the next episodes. I usually don’t like slow-burn romance, but this series made me appreciate it more because the relationship development feels natural and well-built. I realized that falling in love slowly actually feels more realistic than romances with no proper buildup.

Another thing I like is that there are only a few main characters, so it’s an easy and relaxing watch for me. There’s also a little drama between Lynx and her mother, but I think it’s just enough to keep the story interesting without making it too heavy or stressful.

This is only the second series I’ve watched where cats play such a big role, and of course, I absolutely love it. 🐾
