Like watching two separate shows

I actually really enjoyed this show overall, and I genuinely looked forward to it every Friday.

But watching it felt like I was watching two completely different shows at the same time. One is a genuinely strong supernatural horror with ghosts, tension, blood, and a story that keeps you hooked. The other is a romance plotline that feels way weaker in comparison — and the gap between the two is hard to ignore.

The horror works - the pacing and the tension are there, and the story unfolds in a way that actually keeps you invested. The supporting characters were especially strong — well written, well acted, and they added a lot to the atmosphere.

The production value is also genuinely impressive. The staging, costuming, lighting, and post-production all look sharp and intentional. When the show leans into horror, it actually delivers.

The romance side? Not convincing.

Every time the show shifted into the romance, the writing felt less developed.

Singha is supposed to be in his mid-30s and gets teased about his age constantly, but then he’s played by a very young-looking 28 year old Pavel, and it just doesn’t land the way the script wants it to.

(On a personal note: there’s also a certain nasal, whiny, slightly juvenile character style that shows up in a lot of Thai romances, and I personally find it extremely grating. I won’t get into it too much, but it definitely affected how I experienced some scenes.)

Singha–Thupe's relationship made me uncomfortable in parts. Thupe isn’t just emotionally attached to Singha — he depends on him for shelter and protection (including protection from ghosts). That creates a really uneven dynamic that the show never properly acknowledges. So when it suddenly turns into love declarations, it didn’t feel romantic to me — it felt abrupt, and honestly unsettling.

Also, the sweetness of the romance moments felt really out of place inside a story built around death and fear. Instead of feeling like a contrast that adds warmth, it often felt like it belonged to a completely different show.

One a side note: this might be true sbout many thai productions, but in this case the product placement was particularly painful.

I understand that sponsorships are necessary, and I’m not against product placement in general.

But here it was so repetitive and so forced that it completely pulled me out of the story. Either pick products that can naturally fit into the plot, or write the plot in a way that makes the product feel believable in the scene.

Because I had to fast forward at one point — I was cringing by like the fifth time Thupe was putting a face mask on Singha while people were actively being slaughtered.

Some of the styling decisions were distracting because they were never explained.
Thupe having two-colored eyes was never addressed or served any purpose aside from looking cool, I guess? .
He’s supposed to be a homeless orphan, yet he shows up constantly with straightened highlighted hair and designer outfits. Sey’s red hair also felt really random: if he was supposed to be quirky or rebellious it never manifested in the acting or the writing.

And honestly, if they had gone for a grittier look overall, the gap between the horror plot and the romance plot wouldn’t have felt so massive. The styling made the two sides feel even more disconnected.

I still had a good time watching this. The horror storyline is strong, the supporting characters are great, and the show looks really good.
But the romance side felt rushed, tonally disconnected, and underwritten compared to everything else. If they’d written the romance with the same care they gave the horror plot, this could’ve been genuinely excellent instead of feeling so uneven.

The Best Period Drama I ever watched.

I watched this since the premises was really good and i want to explore more Yao Guanyu's work and it's my first time seeing He Lei acting and Turn out I love this drama. Because it's just not romance but it focused on FL and her mother relationship and FL entrepreneurship growth. The comedy was not too cheesy. It was perfect balance for every genres for Period Drama.

The plot logic is very reasonable. FL gradually understands her mother and teaches the original mother from past and sister to resist loving her. Even though the FL knows the bad consequence will happen to her that day, she has a reason to go out. In the end, the FL's wish to return to her mother's side is fulfilled. All of these things are not accomplished by a few superficial words, but are actually driven by the plot. This is true feminist drama in short drama-emphasizes judging actions based on ability, not gender.

FL is truly intelligent and self-reliant heroine. Many times when she encountered bad guys, I thought the ML was about to appear, but she always solved the problem with her own. He Lei proves her natural acting in this drama. Her economic thinking are biggest help to survive in 1980's.

Yao Guanyu was well-cast and acted perfectly. He contributed 80% of the comedic moments in the show so this drama is not too serious since they bring heavy topic. His screentime was not too much but he makes impact. ML's marriage proposal gives the FL confidence, and the couple are incredibly sweet.

The makeup is so natural and light. But I liked Yao Guanyu's floral shirt, slicked-back hair, and bell-bottoms, he perfectly captures the unruly and resilient spirit of a rebel kids in 80's

The cons are the duration are too long around 4 hours 20 minutes so I need to make watch instalment. There are too many distressing family scenes especially come from FL's dad and annoying chatter from uncles and aunts. I feel bad for ML in the end and last part really feels poorly written.

Recommended to watch and it was the best period drama.

Idol I is so much more than just a "star-and-fan" rom-com. It’s a surprisingly dark legal thriller that dissects the toxicity of the industry and the thin line between admiration and obsession.

Maeng Se-na (Choi Soo-young) is a brilliant character. Watching her shift from an implacable "villain's lawyer" in the courtroom to hiding her Gold Boys photocards and stickers whenever her client walks in is hilarious, yet deeply human.

Kim Jae-young delivers an outstanding performance as Do Ra-ik, a broken idol dealing with panic attacks and sasaeng harassment before getting entangled in the murder of his own groupmate. Personally, I believe this is one of the best-acted roles of his career, though, in my eyes, he’s always perfect.

Unlike other idol dramas, the whodunit here keeps you constantly on edge. It makes you question whether we truly know our idols or if we simply love the mask they project.

It’s meta, intense, and features explosive chemistry (at times made awkward by the legal context) between the leads. If you enjoyed The Judge from Hell or legal dramas with a modern twist, this is a 2025/2026 gem you cannot miss.

Had more potential than it showcased

The first half of the show was quite entertaining. The ML's chemistry and comedic timing were good, and the overall
production quality was great. The start felt fresh. Some emotional moments and quotes were also very touching.

The core theme of the story was good as well. Every person really does have their own language, shaped by beliefs, morals,
life struggles etc. In that regard, the show's message was strong, showing how people battling their own hardships are often misinterpreted or ignored. The idea worked story-wise, but not screenplay-wise. The leads' conflict swung between
unresolved and resolved that was dragged too many times, which made their chemistry very unbalanced.

After the first half, they really messed up the flow. I hated the jumbled mess of love triangles between multiple characters,
many of which were completely unnecessary, hence sidelining the core conflicts of the main characters. A lot of subplots were added, with little to no explanation towards the end.

Overall, Can This Love Be Translated started strong, with it's exploration of inner conflicts. However, the muddled second half - filled with unnecessary love arcs, draggy story and underwhelming screenplay, restricts the drama heavily, to reach to it's full potential.

My Rating : 6.5/10

Wishing it would never end

This story had you from the first ep to the last. I enjoyed all the side characters, and I am truly sad to see this one end. The ML and FL matched well together and obliviously there is drama but not enough to make your eyes roll. I will be watching this again and I would recommend anyone to watch this. Enjoy :D

Superb Fighting Scenes!

Superb Fighting Scenes!
Normally, before I make my own review and feedback after finishing a drama, I read some reviews first to see if I’m on the same page as other viewers. But when I checked the reviews for this drama, a lot of people were disappointed. Some even rated it 4 or 5/10. Maybe it’s because I didn’t read the novel, so I’m not sure if the adaptation gave justice to the original story.

The story is about a girl forced to pretend to be a boy/heir in a family that wants to earn merit and rise in status. She later joins the army, gains achievements, and becomes known as General Feihong. But things change when the real son/heir of the family returns.

The drama itself is good. At first, I was taken aback by how she disguised as a man, but her actions toward her commander were different — she did some cute, sweet stuff. If you look at it from the POV of one man to another, it’s a bit awkward! 😵‍💫 But once he found out she was actually a girl, it made sense. 😅😆

The story isn’t that deep — it’s easy to follow. There isn’t much power struggle, but there are twist after twist after twist. 😆 I thought my favorite character would be Chu Zhao. Yes, he was just a pawn of the main villain, but he managed to get out of it. I thought he would turn out okay, but then he got obsessed with his ambition and with He Yan… so he became bad again! 😂😂😂 Another character that stressed me out was the emperor. Like, what the heck? He wasn’t ruthless like other emperors, but he was so easily manipulated — that’s a big no-no! 😂😂😂

For me, this drama deserves an 8.5/10. It’s okay overall — the chemistry between the ML and FL was good, and the fighting scenes were superb. The second leads were just so-so. Honestly, without the amazing action scenes, this drama would feel flat.

But I love that it shows: even if you’re a woman, if you have the dedication to pursue what you want, you can achieve it — even if it goes against the norms of your generation or the law. Laws and traditions can change as long as you stand for what’s right and just. Gender doesn’t matter. And most of all… it had a happy ending! 😉☺️

GENRE: Costume, Romance, Comedy, Friendship, War, Battle, Woman Empowerment.

Not that good....

My secret romance was one of first kdramas I watched when I was barely even teenager and it just bring me back many good memories and I loved that show
So now I wanted to watch one more office kdrama to see if im still into that.... and Im not.

Idk if its something about me but this show was quite really boring to me
Female lead was ok, she was just bland and boring to me but she was nice
Male lead was definently diffrent from other male leads and I liked that concept but he started pissing me off after some time
And that mistery was also boring to me

The only thing I actually liked was her collauges and I LOVEDDD second coupleee!!! I actually finished this just of them
And main couple were cute sometimes but thats it

Honestly idk if this drama is actually boring ir Im nit just 13 years old anymore?

A heartwarming story only eldest Asian daughters can relate to

Nothing beats an Asian mom’s love. Right now, she’s bragging you in front of your neighbors, but on closed doors she’s scolding you for your failures. That’s the life of an Asian eldest daughter, with emotional trauma included.

But seriously, I love this show. It starts off lighthearted and comical, but both the story and the characters are multilayered, with many facets to reveal. The entire cast is flawed, relatable and on top of it all funny without being irritating.

Bae Seok Ryu (Jung So Min) returns home to Korea after working in the United States for almost a decade. Unfortunately, her family won’t be too thrilled to hear why she came home unannounced – she quit her high-profile job and broke off her engagement. Choi Seung Hyo (Jung Hae In) is Seok Ryu’s childhood friend and neighbor. He is already a successful architect but is now back living with his parents as he just opened his own company in their old neighborhood. They haven’t seen each other for a long time so one might think they would go emotional and teary-eyed the second they meet. In true sitcom fashion, they started bickering back and forth that it feels like they hate each other with every fiber of their being. And this is just the beginning. All the chaos and pent-up emotions start to spill out here.

So Min and Hae In are my favorite actors so imagine how ecstatic I was to hear that my fave versatile actors are starring in a romcom, which also happens to be my fave genre. These two can eat up any genre from romcom, thriller, action, fantasy to sageuk.

So Min portrays Seok Ryu with a chirpy, feisty yet vulnerable persona, capturing the very essence of every eldest Asian daughter and her fake façade. At first, she seems to shrug off every scolding and earful she gets from her mother, but as the story moves along, we learn that this is just a cover-up and she has already harbored ill feelings toward her parents for their favoritism and high expectations of her. Seok Ryu is one of the most complex yet relatable characters I have ever seen. Perhaps this just hits too close to home as an Asian daughter myself who knows all the dynamics and inexplicable relationships in an Asian household.

Hae In establishes a nice balance in Seung Hyo’s noble yet reserved personality, which he shows to everyone except Seok Ryu. On paper, he is the ideal guy and has all the qualities every Asian mom would adore – successful job, company owner, handsome looks, and kind manners. But in reality, he is too much of an idealist rather than keeping his foot on the ground, which is the result of coming from a privileged background. It was so nice to rub in everyone's faces that Seung Ho also has flaws and is not the perfect boss, son and friend we want him to appear to be. He is selfish just like any of us and tries to live in his ideal world even if it is not practical.

An Asian household is not without its dysfunctionality. Love Next Door depicts the two extremes of Asian family – one is a seemingly perfect family from outside with prestigious jobs but barely talks and eats together, while the other is a working-class family founded on tough love and good food but with bottled-up emotions. This just goes to show how you don't get to have the best of both worlds. Every time they get drunk, the two dads spill out their guts about how they are jealous of each other’s lives. Two different people living two different lives, yet they are envious of each other. Our achievements and wins in life are always just the tip of the iceberg, yet they are always the first things people see in us. They try to equate our value with how well we do in life and that’s the sad reality. Our hardships in reaching the peak of success is unknown to many because only we how hard it was for us.

I don't understand the low reviews from other viewers. They keep saying the show lost its potential, even though it’s clear this has some of the best character developments and most fleshed-out characters in K-drama. This is character-driven and has an unconventional storytelling. It does not follow the usual climactic formula and over-the-top conflicts. There are many characters yet they don’t drown out the theme and conflict of the show. I love that this show celebrates the seasons of life, that through the course of our lives, we will experience all four seasons: the joy and brightness of summer, the quiet and pensiveness of autumn, the cold and gloominess of winter, and last but not the least the warmth and hopefulness of spring. Seok Ryu and Seung Hyo’s winter were the harshest of them all. It took a lot of time and energy for them to finally achieve a fresh beginning.

Watching this feels like visiting your old neighborhood and everyone is excited and nosy about how you have been. As you excuse yourself from your neighbors and walk towards your house, you can still hear the faint chitchats and gossips going around. It’s the same neighborhood you know inside out - whether it's the moms bragging their children’s achievements, dads getting drinks and falling back to their intoxicated behaviors, siblings nagging one another or childhood friends hanging out outside a convenience store – everything feels familiar and the same, yet you have already changed at the same time you feel lost on what your next step should be. This is Seok Ryu’s dilemma from the get-go. The familiarity of the place became her safe space and shield against all the horrible things that happened to her. With all the love and support she got from the people around her, she was able to bounce back which is definitely a feat because Asian families are not fond of failures haha Despite the miscommunications and missed timings, everything eventually fell into place.

What seems to be a lighthearted K-drama turns out to be a compelling and poignant story about all the relationships that formed and nurtured us - from family, platonic to romantic. I love how this has a modern take on marriage, dreams, family dynamics, marital difficulties, introspection and everything Gen-Z is revolutionizing for.

Ultimately, Love Next Door centers on motherly love. Seok Ryu’s mother treats her two children differently but still cooks and serves food even if she’s mad. On the other hand, Seung Hyo’s mother barely stays at home and rarely spends time with her husband and son. It’s such a drastic contrast to Seok Ryu’s house which is cozy, noisy and always smells of homecooked food. Mo Eum’s mother finds it easy to get along with her neighbors and newcomers, and she is also very supportive and protective of her daughter’s future. Despite being a single parent, she is not obsessed with her child’s success allowing Mo Eum to pursue her own path unlike Seok Ryu and Seung Hyo’s mothers. Three mothers portray three different kinds of maternal love which is essentially our foundation and basis of what true love is.

To sum up, Love Next Door is a realistic portrayal of families, relationships and everything in between. I will forever treasure this for its unapologetic vulnerability and how it unexpectedly infuses touches of humor, mirroring how life is—full of happiness and tears.

The demon part was quite boring

I watched Yunmiao and i still enjoy this despite all the flaws.

There is two main story on this drama; The Demon-Suppressing Family and The Death of the True Heiress. The theme is really good, but the stories need to be chosen carefully. The demon part was not really good and i almost asleep on that part. The heiress one was quite original, and the way of getting revenge was pretty satisfying—killing the enemy every day.

Season 3 is better than Season 2. The story unfolds through the performances of the supporting characters, rather than the monologues and dialogue of Season 2. There's significantly less verbal sparring.

It's great things that this show hasn't declined in quality over several seasons. I felt Season 2 wasn't as good as Season 1, and I didn't have high hopes for Season 3, but it turned out to be a better than season 2. Not only is the heiress part is good but the production maintains its high standard, and the costumes and props are even more refined.

Decent watch if you didnt want to get romance drama.

Oké drama

This drama is average. The acting on ML end was great. Other actors were fine.
The story is sweet with great comedy.
But to give it a high rating is unnecessary. I’ve seen better drama about gangs, mobsters and criminals.
There wasn’t much development in the case, no action, no building up and the ending was pretty much rushed.
This drama is fine to watch if there isn’t anything else to watch.

Another bad drama

I watched this two years ago and i cant forget how the bad it was. Post-production editing has some issues and it looks like cheap drama. I quite like Yi La and Wen Yuan looks but they have no chemistry at all and Yi La acting was bad. The kisses was fake and not the first scene when FL was taking a bath and suddenly man comes on the bathroom and she brought the needle. Maybe my logic was not same with the drama.

The only good thing about this drama is Wen Yuan abs, otherwise it cant be helped at all.
