An interesting, but still incomplete, conclusion.

I was a bit disappointed with part 1 as I felt a lot was left unexplored, especially surrounding the main characters and their relationships together (which, I mean, was kind of the point of the story). This 2nd part did a bit better on this regard with the main group, while still missing a crucial part : Baek Jin/Hu Min relationship. We get that there's something there... but it's so subtle it's too unclear what it is exactly. That's really too bad as it's a, if not THE, core element of the plot...

Also, it's simply too short for my tastes. It's pretty good if you watch season 1+2 back to back, but I still think it's lacking something. The writing IS pretty solid. And I am not easily satisfied. Sure, some things don't make that much sense. You should not think too much. And it's a bit overdramatic sometimes, when it was more 'to the point' in the 1st. There is some slo-mo and some static shots on actors sometimes that is something I really dislike in cinema in general (that weren't to this point in the 1st). There are also too many pending questions that left me waiting. I am disappointed with some key characters (such as Geum Seong Je and Na Baek Jin). Seong Je in particular was simply too... tame. And as for the fights, there were more numerous than previously. And they were good. But I think they were less 'creative' and sometimes the way they were shot wasn't the best, imo.

Yes, I do think overall Yoo Su Min did a stupendous job retaining enough of the base material, mixing existing elements up while adding his own new ideas and take on it... Really. I like it more than the webtoon, I really do. But the same issues as previous season occur, while adding on some other issues. And it does take away a lot from my enjoyment for this show. The potential is here. It's here. Waiting.

As previously, it's not 'bad'. It's a great drama. Great ideas. Great characters. Great fight scenes. It's not just violence for violence. There's really something here. It is enjoyable, entertaining, emotional. Everything. But it feels so incomplete. Like a... great summary. Maybe I'd change my mind with a rewatch... but as for this first ever time I watch it, I'm anxiously happy while not at all satisfied somehow. It's really weird. The first season was almost more satisfying than this despite its gloomy finale. The ending here is also... well. Is this it ? Is there going to be another season ? Do I really want one ? It's a bit unsettling, I'd say. Interesting choice but I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. On the positive side... about the 'thing' almost everyone wanted to know... I'll simply say the writer linked the past to the present very nicely. Way better than the webtoon, in my opinion.

Character-wise, Si Eun is also more likeable for me now than at the beginning of season 1. His odd behaviour is, obviously, way more understandable here. His growth is also pleasant to see and I actually prefer this Yeon Si Eun than the webtoon's Yeon Gray, by far. Another good point. Seo Jun Tae is one tough bean, I loved his character. Park Hu Min is a very important part of the plot here and thankfully he's a good, lovable character too. Although, sadly, a bit shallow. Go Hyun Tak, he's cool. But again, not very developed.

To end this review on the more 'superficial' side of things and stop my rambling, the acting is something I very rarely have to complain about in K-dramas. And this is no exception. Everyone on the cast does a great job at what they're supposed to do. The OST wasn't overly noticeable which is, for me, a very good thing. The opening song is the same as previously and I'm not complaining. The rest was pleasant, blended nicely. I don't know about the lyrics though and how they really fit, as I haven't checked them.

SO... To end it here. I won't repeat myself endlessly. This drama ? Good. But is it enough for me ? Not really.

weak compared to expectations

There were many impactful scenes in season 1 which made the story very meaningful. A similar concept was adapted for season 2 as well with new characters but because the way it was played out was very monotonous, there was no depth to the plot. In season 2 the background stories of the characters were lacking alot so it felt like watching a group of kids with ego problems. Viewers are just supposed to assume the characters went through a rough childhood and hence they are in this state... but removing this portion removed the relatability of the characters.

In season 1 there was a huge form of satisfaction whenever Si-eun fought back...but this time it felt so hmm... like i totally understand using a weapon to protect yourself when you are suddenly attacked but for the last scene that one I feel was not valid cause their opponents were all bare as well and it was a discussed fight...so that portion of the drama felt like they forced their win.

For the positive points, the acting is good by all the members. The pacing is average mostly them fighting and recovering then fighting again. They get beat up so much but in 2 days their face goes back to normal...haha

I would definitely recommend season 1 to everyone but season 2 can just be passed. There isnt much link with the past season anyways.

Weak Hero Class 2: A Gritty, Emotionally Charged Sequel That Lives Up to the Hype

Weak Hero Class2 was actually on par with S1, it maintained the same intensity and quality throughout. While S1 had its share of lighter, fun moments, S2 leaned heavily into a more serious, emotionally charged tone. It felt heavier, more tense and deeply affecting to watch.

Personally, the final episode was the highlight for me. The last gang fight was absolutely insane and intense. I especially loved how emotionally heavy it was, the scene where Suho wakes up from his coma and reunites with Sieun was easily my favorite moment.

S2 also placed a strong focus on the SML Baku. His storyline became the central anchor of the plot and his rivalry with his childhood friend, Na Baekjin, formed the heart of the narrative.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Jo Jungsuk take on the role of one of the main villains (although he was in guest appearance). He portrayed a shadowy mastermind, the real puppet master behind the scenes. I think Lee Junyoung, who played a secondary antagonist this season, will step into the main villain role in S3.

The new characters, portrayed by Ryeoun, Lee Minjae, Choi Minyoung and others made a strong impression in a short span of time. They didnt feel out of place or forced into the story, it felt like they belonged to the world of the show from the very beginning.

As always, the acting was top notch, especially from Park Jihoon but the entire cast delivered powerful performances across the board.

Overall, this was a worthy sequel to one of the best teen revenge dramas out there.

s1 was supposed to be his backstory but idk it felt like the main thing

I think season i's standard was set too high
- villain had little depth to character
- the random ceo ?!?
- I don't think they did the best job of showing the development and deepness of the new friendships, they had such good opportunity
- wish they showed more of the academic side cause that's how the main character was introduced in s1, w
- the coma scene with his old friend was boring tbh the accident was unnecessary
- i loved the fight scenes tho but i wish we saw him develop as a better fighter but i understand why he didn't
- isn't that guys knee supposed to be hurt ?!?!
- would've been fine if su ho didn't wake up, it was done so poorly, they should've left the convo out or maintained su ho's personality

regardless, this is a great show and ji hoon is an amazing actor

Stronger Together: The Raw Power of Friendship in Weak Hero Class 2

Season 2 picks up the shattered pieces of Season 1 and somehow hits even harder.
The emotions? Raw.
The fights? Brutal.
The characters? OH-MY-HEART.

Park Ji Hoon as Yeon Si Eun... I have no words—actually, I have too many! He ATE this role up again. Seriously, his eyes… they did all the talking. He barely needed words. You could see the trauma, the guilt, the loneliness—he was surviving, but inside, he was just... gone. And Ji Hoon? He brought all that pain to life so beautifully that it hurt in the best way possible. His performance was quiet yet loud, subtle yet piercing. Every little twitch, glance, and silence spoke so loudly, I just wanted to crawl into the screen, hand him a warm bowl of soup, and give him a hug.

Now, let’s talk about that friendship squad that absolutely stole the show: Park Hu Min, Seo Jun Tae, and Ko Hyeon Tak.
My found-family-loving heart was full. Their bond felt so real, so honest, like they’d been through it all together. They weren’t perfect—each had their own flaws, their own strengths—but the way they fought for each other? Chef’s kiss. The chemistry was flawless. Every scene with them had me giggling, sobbing, or clenching my fists.

They weren’t heroes in the traditional sense, but they stood up for each other in their own ways. They weren’t just background characters—they were fully fleshed-out people with their own scars and growth.

Also—I read somewhere that Su Ho “sent his son” to cheer up Si Eun, and I CANNOT unsee that. Like… yes, pass the torch of friendship, please. This is poetic. hahaa

The scene at the airport (iykyk)??? Jun Tae’s words??? My soul ascended. That one scene had me clutching my pillow like, “YES BABY, YES!! THAT’S TRUE!! PLEASE HUG HIM SOMEONE OR LET ME!! COME ON!!”
And when Si Eun started showing those tiny cute little smiles again... I was gone. My heart melted. It was like watching spring peek through a long, cold winter.

As for Na Baek Jin… hmm. His character left me with questions. There was so much potential and mystery there, but I felt like his backstory needed just a bit more depth. Like how did he end up in that place mentally? Emotionally? I was waiting for more, but it kinda just faded out.

Let’s not forget to praise the casting and performances—every single person in this drama delivered. From major characters to supporting roles, they all felt real. Not a single performance felt forced. The way they acted, reacted, held pain in their expressions, or said everything with a single line... it was next-level. Massive kudos to the casting team for giving us such a perfect mix.

And yes... I watched the entire thing in one sitting. Yup. From start to finish. I was that hooked. Hours just flew by, and I didn’t even realize how deep I was into it until it ended.

But overall? I LOVED THIS SEASON.
Compared to Season 1, I didn’t ugly cry and sob the same way (thank god for that ), but this time… the story had a new color. It was still gritty and painful, but there was a thread of hope, of healing, that made it even more meaningful. The casting this season was perfect. Seriously. Every actor felt like they belonged in that world. Their performances weren’t just good, they were layered, detailed, and intense. I was hooked from start to finish.

If they ever give us a Season 3, just know—I’ll be waiting and seated in the FIRST ROW.

Solid, Yet Missing the Spark

I feel like this sequel is a bit bland. Everything, from the interactions to the plot progression, even down to details like the episode lengths, feels very consistent, almost too much so. It’s not necessarily a bad thing; you'd expect some continuity from season 1. But with Netflix involved, I thought they might take a few more risks with the writing. I was hoping for something a little more dynamic, and instead ended up with a sequel that felt monotone, even if it was solidly put together.

I felt like Si Eun deserved more time to explore his feelings, thoughts, and inner struggles. The first season handled the characters’ depth wonderfully, but in this sequel, it felt rushed and too repetitive.

That said, Jihoon still stands out with his acting, and I still enjoyed the other characters, even if the sense of thrill wasn’t quite there this time.

I get the sense they made this sequel mainly to wrap things up cleanly, and to capitalize on the show's initial popularity, but as the producer once said, it wasn't originally planned to have a sequel and I can understand why.

Disappointing

I don’t even know if I can finish watching this. I’m halfway through and feel no connection to any of the new characters. I haven’t read the webtoon but I can tell it’s rushed. The story is just not gripping and I find myself feeling so bored during the fight scenes. Which honestly seem so pointless. Nothing is explained well.

I highly enjoyed the first season, and this is just a total letdown.

I’m honestly so confused by all the 10 star reviews I’m seeing. Did we watch the same thing? How can you think this was anywhere near as good as S1? Granted I know I haven’t finished it yet, but man I’m struggling to!

Update: I’ve finished it and my thoughts remain the same. The best moment was literally the very ending when we finally found out about Suho.

Not as expected :(

okay i just finished binge watching this
and i have a lot of thoughts

*Spoilers in the review*

The missed expectations
- where is sieun and his brilliant mind used, like why is he seen so less? the main character
- the storyline also seems not connecting enough with so many characters
- the main point of weak hero was that one lonely kid with his analytic mind defeating the bad guys
- the negative characters stroyline is also not working, why take such characters to show the ruggedness when in the first part one actor with such a baby face also portrayed it perfectly, the characters should resonate with the storyline but i could not feel any connection
- the scene where sieun goes to the bowling alley seems predictable enough but i was looking forward to one-on-one fight with him and seung-je again because their fighting was really awesome but he left and someone else fought him like what, wasnt it a revenge thingy like why would take something like this out?
- the last fight scene seemed like something to look forward to after such a lengthy period but that too didnt do much justice to the characters fighting for a purpose
- the one main head of the negative character didnt even show any bruises with all the punches he got and the others seemed out of it like how come and what's going on?

Good Points-
- Was really great seeing the character of sieun, he really did a great job once again
- the new characters of Jun-tae was also really a nice touch, given the bullying and all and him taking action after hearing sieun
- Was really unexpected to see beom-seok in the coma scene of sieun but then i realised the connection, really great capture
- The main highlight the great suho waking up and that last scene really brought a smile

Summary of mine
Weak Hero Class 2 deters away from the main point of having a simple kid with great analysis of fighting and using it to his advantage. The main character of sieun is away from the whole plot line with his strengths like his smartness and all. Neither did the new characters connect much as there are too many characters all at once. The negative characters also dont have a solid storyline. Had much high expectations after the first one really left a great impression in terms a kdrama of this genre :(

The direction of season 2 was a letdown...

Watching season 2 of weak hero made me realize how good season 1 was. This doesn't necessarily mean that season 2 was bad. On the contrary, I finished all 8 episodes relatively quickly. What I mean is, I feel that the direction weak hero headed after being acquired by Netflix jarringly diverged from the original path season 1 traversed, which was a massive bummer. Season 2 felt more like a standard Netflix kdrama, complete with a bubbly character and some cliche scenes. Season 1 felt whole and immersive, especially in terms of its action scenes, while season 2, in my opinion, felt stereotypical and lacking. At least Park Ji Hoon remained true to his performance in season 1.

Overall, a good watch, but I hope the original and unique essence of weak hero comes back next season.

Was it worth the 3 years of waiting ?

Weak hero class 2 really tried it's best to be on the same level of season 1 which was only a backstory but slightly failed in that light. This did not live up to the Part 1 I'm going to be honest. It stands well on its own and had its own story to tell. The actors did a great job. It's the story that failed. Now why did I rate this as an 7.5.

There was this charm exuded by each of the characters even the ones in the background. I could honestly see this doing better as a whole new drama than as a continuation. Might have been a 9 instead. The story was still compelling, and I binged it. Si eun, Go tak, Park hu-min and Jun tae had this friendship that came out of nowhere just like it is in real life. They all just wanted to protect one another. It was sweet. The fight scenes were also one of the best I've seen in any drama it was neither exaggerated nor over the top.
Now here is the con's or why it did a bad job in my opinion:
The depth of the main characters wasn't explored in a sense. This could be blamed on it only having 8 episodes I suppose but to do a poor job even exploring the main character (Si eun) what a shame. There was also lack of explanations for some of the actions made for each character. I don't expect every character to have astounding reasons for their actions but give me something to work with I'm begging. Then we saw in the beginning the fact that Si eun was taking sleeping pills but then the therapist or whoever was never shown again. What mental health issues did he deal with after the trauma in season 1. Then they brought back (forgot his name but the pushover who caused Su ho to end up in the hospital) to come to Si eun in a dream like state, what was the reason? I was not sentimental or surprised when I saw him, Alot of this just felt rushed and needed time to be a gem. I could rant about Baku being inconsiderate, we get it, he wanted to protect his father and his friends, but it made it hard for me to connect with him and see the strength of his love for them when he wouldn't even pick up the call from his friends. Go tak and Jun tae were the hidden heroes in this entire thing but didn't even get a backstory or even a visit to their homes. Was the budget so low that they could only film in 5 places. Then they revealed the backstory to Go tak, Jun tae and Baku off camera and all Jun tae had to say was that we know it's not your fault out of no where might I add. I'm ripping this season a new one because I'm hurt. I wanted to love this, I wanted to cry, I wanted to be angry at points, but I also didn't care because by the time something happened it was over.

I won't blame the writing but rather the short timing. This needed at least 4 more episodes so everything could have been fleshed out. Too many actions happened that in the end I'm not sure how to feel. I do love that Su ho appeared for a minute there. I do feel tortured that Baek Jin died even if it was realistic. (He may have been evil, but he was a stupid kid who was taken advantage by those Gang members.) He truly was a grey character full of complexities.

I'm glad I watched it before I saw any spoilers and I'm happy with this ending.

Season 1 and season 2 feels like an upside down

Season 1 deals with Sieun, Suho, and Beomseok, who are supposed to be just side stories in webtoon, turning into detailed and good stories.

Season 2, which was supposed to be long, detailed, and main story, was told in just 8 episode which sadly long-winded. I can accept the slow paced at first, but they didn't immediately enter the main story and spend time in episode 1 with Sieun at the new school—traumatized from past event

Without explaining it, we know how traumatic he is, but that's not the point. Sieun is facing new challenges at his new school. Even at the end of episode 1 it's a time-wasting cliffhanger.

So much important things that's not explained in the drama. It feels like it's just pouring in and hoping the audience understands what's behind it.

It's important to show that Sieun is the pillar of Eunjang High School by showing that he is capable of fighting, but it was suppressed from the beginning with the reason that Sieun was traumatized. When finally Sieun meet Baekjin and Songje, the reason was again invisible. They know that Sieun is dangerous, but there is no visible proof that shown. Only rumors in the past that shadows Sieun's name.

From the first eps I realized, the story would be really different. I was looking forward to it, but it turned out to be badly execute. They chose to focus on the stories between Sieun, Humin, Hyuntak, Juntae and Alliances but did not explain from the beginning what the urgency of the Alliance itself. The Alliance only explained in detailed at the end when Hyoman tell about the Alliance's business. Alliance brutality points are about 10 points in webtoon, but they only show half of it.

Is this important? for me it is. Because one of the core of Weak Hero beside Sieun etc is Alliance and Na Baekjin himself

I feel like the whole story was dragged and delayed, Park Humin was just introduced in episode 2, waste one more episode to get into the main story. Instead, they made an insignificant plot between sieun hyoman juntae hyuntak.

If you're not webtoon readers, I think you'll be fine, I'm fine if the plot changes if the execution is good BUT compared to season 1, I can't help but say that the feeling and the excitement of Weak Hero disappeared in season 2.

Some GOOD things from season 2 I think:
1. Seo Juntae and Park Humin's character writing more diverse than webtoon
2. climax scene between Eunjang and Alliance

The story build-up pretty good, but that's just it. The credit scene ending is so funny, I wouldn't be surprised if the non-webtoon reader was confused why the ending like that 🤣

I know that between webtoon and drama can be different. But the point is when I watch Season 2, I don't have the same feeling I felt in Season 1 and when I read the webtoon.

They have an incredibly great cast, but squandering such a good story into just 8 episodes is... disappointing 😟
