youthful infatuation to adult love
Such an amazing cdrama! There are so many emotions you can experience watching it! The relationship between main leads are giving a lot of love, although at the beginning it was difficult, but then it was nice to see them happy. Also they made a lot of efforts and fought for their relationship. And in the case of Xu Qin for freedom of choice. It was very hard for her to go against her mother, but she was able to stand up for herself. I wanted for her brother to find his soulmate, but the end turned out to be good for him anyway, and he was also able to get out from their mother’s manipulations and find his freedom. The story of the firefighters touched to the core, how they are constantly away from their family and anything can happen to them. It’s all their strength and sense of duty! It's such an intense and interesting cdrama! A must-watch!

A glorious blend of the good, the meh and synchronised flag-waving
This is a very watchable show, but its plots and tone change so often that you feel exhilarated and exhausted in equal parts. This makes it hard to give a concise rating. When it is good, it is heartfelt and stirring. But it can also get cheesy with a side order of jingoistic flag-waving. I suppose my rating is between 8 and 8.5.At its core, this is about the aborted love story of a pair of teenagers who met towards the end of high school. Their budding relationship was torn apart by the FL’s domineering mother. They met by chance ten years later and things develop from there. If the plot sounds tropey then here's your gold star. This show walks on familiar paths but it does set a cracking pace.
During early episodes, our leads would "chance" upon each other repeatedly. When you realise one is a firefighter and the other is an ER doctor it means they only meet at emergencies. Consider even a small city in China can house millions, that’s a very small but dangerous corner they live in! It feels so contrived and is almost farcical.
All these entanglements finally brought them back together and this is essentially the glue that held the show together. Once we get past the push-pulls and denials, we have a very romantic pairing. Our leads have good chemistry, and they are certainly photogenic. It was gratifying to see the FL grows a spine and stands up to her controlling mum once she is all in. Amore trionfa sempre!
While both stars are beautiful people, Yang Yang is the face of this show, and he is everywhere. This can cut both ways. Fans of YY will rejoice but someone who is less enamoured might start to notice some flaws in his acting.
The other star of the show is the firefighters and their daily grind provides most of the subplots. A shoutout to the ensemble cast who filled the ranks. They must have trained hard for their roles. Some of the action/training scenes look very challenging. They are ably supported by the staff of the ER department where the FL works. However, these plots are a mixed bag. It can go from inspiring and exciting to banal. I appreciate the work of first responders, and I'll not begrudge their moments in the sun. However, some of the dramatisations are over the top. Plots and pacing is uneven. There are a lot of nationalistic messages aimed at the local audiences. Your mileage will differ.
The mother of the FL is straight out of central casting. She is the personification of a rich, immoral, domineering matriarch. She can probably trace her matrilineal line to a Tang Empress. She is a force of nature and rules with an iron fist. The only problem is that her role is very one dimensional. Her only goal is to obtain power, wealth and a total control over her serfdom. She never has a moment of self doubt or regret. It is tiring to watch her do the same thing over and over. Her “Death Bed” conversion feels particularly contrived.
In the end, fans of the leads will be happy, the production value is high, particularly some of the action set pieces. There are impactful and poignant moments that will stay with you. The romance is sweet and swoon worthy. Once the OTP get together, they skipped the handholding and went straight to home base which is rare in a c-drama. However, it is an inconsistent grab-bag of highs and lows, original ideas and contrivances. This annoys me because I really wanted to recommend this show unreservedly, but I can’t.
I can certainly rewatch some of the romantic scenes (repeatedly) but not the whole 40 eps. OST is very nice.

A Doctor, A Firefighter, and Love That Defies Time and Class
ASlow-Burn Romance in a Patriotic World and a Love That Still BurnsAngsty action romance drama with firefighters and hospital theme. The two leads do have chemistry. It's not as deeply rooted as one would like it to be, but there is some chemistry between the two leads. Love at first sight, reconcile 10 years later between two Individuals of Noble Profession.
I honestly loved this drama. From start to finish, it’s a mix of bromance, romance, action, and life lessons that makes it unforgettable. It’s not your typical drama with the “intelligent boy / dumb girl” trope — here, both leads are mature, smart, and hardworking, and the story respects their growth and emotions.
💛 Story & Characters:
Yang Yang as Song Yan: Absolutely brilliant. He’s mischievous, talkative, fierce, and yet responsible as a firefighter and a leader. The way he balances his ambition, love life, and caring for his team is realistic and inspiring.
Wang Chu Ran as Xu Qin: Sophisticated, reserved, and independent. Her journey of balancing family obligations, love, and career as a doctor is beautifully portrayed. Her growth from being constrained by her family to pursuing love and independence feels natural and earned.
The drama also honors real-life professions — firefighters, rescue workers, and doctors. The scenes showing their struggles and sacrifices are so moving and respectful. It made me appreciate their dedication and bravery, and added a layer of realism you rarely see in dramas.
✨ What I Loved:
True-to-life emotions and conflicts — not over-the-top fantasy drama stuff.
The relationship development between the leads is paced realistically. Every interaction matters, every emotional moment hits.
The drama gives respect and recognition to all jobs, showing that every profession has its difficulties and deserves acknowledgment.
Action and romance are well-balanced — it’s not just about love; it’s about life, duty, and resilience.
Even small details — like showing the difficulty of being a firefighter — add depth and meaning to the story.
⚡ Acting:
The whole cast delivers, from leads to supporting characters. Song Yan’s and Xu Qin’s chemistry is seamless. While I occasionally found Xu Qin a bit frustrating (but not enough to drop the drama), her moments of growth made it satisfying to watch. Song Yan’s journey as a professional, lover, and friend is heartfelt.
The mother character adds tension, and though at times annoying, her arc — especially being redeemed later — is well-handled. Supporting characters, like Xu Qin’s brother and team members, enrich the story and bring balance.
💡 Pacing & Writing:
Realistic pacing — take your time with this drama; don’t skip episodes, or you’ll miss small but meaningful developments.
Modern, mature, and engaging — emotions are developed over time, not forced.
Some social class subplots felt repetitive, but the drama’s main strength is in its characters and realistic storytelling, which outweighs minor cliches.
💌 Who Should Watch:
If you love realistic modern dramas that mix romance, friendship, and action.
If you appreciate emotional depth and character growth.
If you want a drama that respects real professions and shows life struggles in adulthood.
Fans of Yang Yang or Wang Chu Ran — both deliver career-defining performances.
Viewers who enjoy slow-burn romance and meaningful bromance.
⚠️ Who Might Not Enjoy It:
Those looking for fast-paced, light, or purely fantasy romance.
People who don’t like subtle emotional build-up — this drama is about noticing the small things.
Viewers who are bothered by social class conflicts or strict family dynamics — these are part of the story, though handled well.
💖 Final Thoughts:
This drama is heartfelt, realistic, and inspiring. It made me laugh, cry, smile, and feel pride for real-life heroes like firefighters and doctors. Every scene matters, every character contributes, and the emotional pay-off is immense. Truly, a must-watch for anyone who values story, character, and life lessons in a drama.
Rating: 9/10
If you haven’t watched it yet — take your time, enjoy the journey, and ride the emotional waves. You won’t regret it.

Fireworks of My Heart — Love That Still Burns After Time
A firefighter and a doctor. I’ve always loved dramas with this kind of setting — where love is intertwined with responsibility and sacrifice. Fireworks of My Heart (我的人间烟火) is exactly that: a reunion story that brings together two people who once loved each other deeply, got separated in their youth, and meet again a decade later under the burning light of fire and hope. The drama stars Yang Yang (YY) as Song Yan, a firefighter, and Wang Churan as Xu Qin, an emergency doctor. Their love story begins in their teenage years, but due to family pressure and misunderstandings, they are forced apart. Ten years later, they reunite as professionals who save lives — he runs into flames, she heals those who survive them.
🌸 The cast & chemistry
You know how I said I have been a fan of YY for years? Well: he is absolutely the reason I started watching. His portrayal of the firefighter — strong, but quietly emotional — just drew me in.
And paired with Wang Churan as a doctor, they bring in that perfect balance of familiarity (from their teenage love) and maturity (from their ten years apart). I absolutely felt their chemistry.
💭 Cinematography and Music
The visual tone of the drama is soft and warm, with golden and smoky hues that match the “fireworks” theme perfectly. The firefighting sequences are well-shot — not overly dramatic, but impactful enough to show danger and teamwork.
The OSTs also deserve praise. Songs like 《我的人间烟火》 (performed by Mao Buyi) and 《星光》 add emotional depth. I loved how the music often appeared during quiet reflection moments instead of big scenes, which made it more touching.
⚠️ What I Found Challenging / Mixed Feelings
Familiarity & pacing
Because I love this kind of reunion + profession-drama combo, some parts felt very familiar to me: childhood love, separation, ten years later, misunderstanding, then rescue. While I didn’t mind it, I did wish for more surprise or less predictability in places. And slow pacing in the middle episodes; some scenes felt repetitive
Emotional highs vs. quiet moments
A few dialogues and emotional confrontations were too long or dramatic. The drama does have big moments (fire rescue, hospital drama, life-or-death), but sometimes the quieter emotional moments felt a bit rushed or under-explored.
🎬 Verdict
Fireworks of my heart is a drama I loved because of who I am as a viewer: a fan of heroic careers + characters I care about.
If you’re into:
Reunion romances
Characters in firefighting/medical professions
Actors whose chemistry you already love
Emotional dramas with rescue scenes and life stakes
… then this show is definitely worth your time.

Nearly more bromance than romance LOL
If you start this show with the expectation to watch a drama about a firefighter brigade and some medical ER personnel in a hospital and their work life and occupational struggles plus some slow moving romantic plot on the side, this drama is for you.If you expect a show about the second chance romance about a firefighter and a doctor with their respective jobs only as background plot, you will get the dilemma either to skip parts of the show or to fight the urge to abandon it altogether.
Because the rescue missions are more or less the show. The romance? Within the first half of the drama nothing notable happens on their relationship part. Some encounters between all the rescues, but not much more. That time is used by the FL character to undergo some important internal growth. But it happens nearly unnoticeable for most viewers.
The romance plot takes more or less center stage during the second half of the drama. The rescues keep coming but it doesn’t overpower the romantic story anymore.
Overall - besides the odd pacing regarding the central romantic story I liked the drama, felt with the characters and smiled a lot.
The acting, the multilayered characters - no complaints from my side. I enjoyed the bromance and the friendships within these firefighters. Skipped a lot through these rescue scenes. That stuff is not really my thing.
That drama is wholesome. Give it a try.

Disappointment for me?
As soon as I saw the ML is yang yang, immediately started this series and since I LOVED his acting in “you are my glory” I thought it’d be the same with this series as well.. so let me begin:-storyline is actually not bad but the amount of action scenes are not really homogen. Like, the ep starts with full of action but then nothing really happens towards the end and rest feels empty :(
- as for acting… I had really high hopes for Yang Yang but I really hated his acting in this series, it was really blunt. (Still love you yangyang but I have to be honest :( ) FL's acting was not bad but her's felt blunt too, no bright emotions etc. BUT WEI DAXUN OMG he really was the star of this series, he almost carried the entire show by himself. The acting, the coldness, the emotions were all on point!!! We can understand this from weibo as well because whenever new ep was released he was trending on weibo
-I'd not watch it again, it was already so hard for me to watch the rest after a few episodes :// storyline was promising and they could’ve done better…

A surprising show that stole my heart
Fair warning if you come into this drama hoping for some cute mindless romance, you will sorely be disappointed, this is not it, the things our lovers have to overcome to be together is as innumerable as their love for each other. FOMH is part romance, part action, and part slice-of-lifeFOMH undoubtedly had a high budget, true that sometimes high budget doesn’t equate to high quality. But not-to-fret FOMH is clearly a beloved child of the PD. It has a high production value, beautiful well thought-off shots and a carefully plotted sequence with a proper build-up. If I have to be picky the transition sometimes can be a bit jarring.
I sped read the novel after I finished the drama. This drama is based on the novel, but the PD & scriptwriter created their own versions of the story and characters. This is a common practice and honestly this time I don’t mind it at all, in my opinion the changes are for the better especially since this is made for television. And frankly many things in the novel will have no chance to pass censorship. The drama kept key lines from the book verbatim and they followed the narrative trajectory closely.
A big part of the drama is about our leads profession as a firefighter and a doctor especially the firefighters team. From their training to their missions, from small dispatched to handle a spider to a high risks missions of disasters rescue and high rise building fire. I can only imagine how hard the conditions were during shooting, I saw some of the bts and they were using real fires. Kudos to all the cast, and crews, your hard work pays off because the actions are top notch.
In FOMH we see people at their worst and we see people at their best in the face of disaster, not everything is black and white in the world of FOMH, for examples when the team rescued a group of students missing in the mountains, their parents were ungrateful and the missing kids also behaved abhorrently. On another memorable case with the bus falling of a cliff accident, the person hailed as a hero for rescuing the passengers turned out to be a con man, this is a recurring theme throughout the show, that people are complicated, humans are not purely evil or purely good. How people should answer for their crime but also we shouldn’t write them off as a person.
Since FOMH is a 40 episodes drama, they didn't skimp. There are a lot of issue that they tackled here, from the training in details, the aftermath of a particularly difficult mission, the trauma. It made me appreciate and respect firefighters and search and rescue team even more.
Besides the main lead the show also introduced us to tons of supporting casts surrounding them, you will get to know and care about their story too.
Last but not least our main characters Song Yan and Xu Qin played by Yang Yang and Wang Churan. First of all whoever decided to cast the two of them together bravo *clap clap*. Visually these two are as beautiful as you can get and the icing on the cake is their chemistry is off the charts. They're the best part of the show for me. Their characters and their relationship are what makes me fall in love with this drama. They're what makes this drama 10/10 for me.

It's like a job recruitment ad
It's 40 hours of promoting the glory and nobility of the Chinese Fire and Rescue with medical drama and romance on the side. This is a story about a:
- A delusional mother typical of her social caste passionately obsessed with ruining the MLs opportunities in life.
- A henpecked father with a minor redemption arc
- An obstinate and secretive ML with a hero complex more obsessed with his job than improving his situation in life for the sake of his bride.
- A clinically detached FL suffering from Stockholm syndrome but decides to break free.
- A half-brother with incestuous tendencies
The interaction of the main leads seem to lack that ummph that you'd expect between lost loves reuniting - passable but I guess the writer must have led a happy life. I found their reconciliation too rushed as well and failed to reconcile the issues from their previous separation instead burying it all under a lofty "forgiveness" arc.
That they still ended up being together against all odds and that she was able to stand up for him against her family is a testament that this is indeed a work of Chinese idealistic fiction.

Deeply emotional, beautifully told romance
Fireworks of My Heart is a deeply emotional, beautifully told romance that stays with you long after the final episode. It’s one of those dramas that doesn’t rely on exaggerated drama or flashy twists, but instead builds its power through quiet intensity, emotional restraint, and heartfelt connection. What makes this drama special is the maturity of the romance. The relationship between the leads feels realistic and grounded, shaped by time, separation, misunderstandings, and personal growth. Their love isn’t loud or rushed — it’s the kind that simmers beneath the surface, growing stronger through shared pain, unspoken feelings, and enduring care. When the emotions finally surface, they feel earned and deeply moving.

Typical cdrama - painful in 2023
After the huge hits of cdramas like Hidden Love etc, you can be tempted to watch the incredible Yang Yang expecting more of the same. However prepare to be disappointed. The first episode kicks off strong and then sharply takes nose dive. The concept of Firefighters x Doctors is a good combo - and they cast this show well. In fact the cast is superb and their acting is fine. Every single one plays their role well, INCLUDING the leads who have been harshly criticized for their performance. I actually think they did very well considering the poor script they were given. The script is the biggest disappointment here. At times its unimaginative-and ridiculous. The first half of the series it has us spinning in never ending circles, with no progress. It’s exhausting. At this show finished at the half way point I’d have given this thing like 3/4.
In fact the dialogue between Yang Yang and Bin Bin is the only redemptive part. They have the best friendship and scenes. To the point where you may go “female lead who?”
Thankfully we finally find 2nd gear and this show picks up, and the tension will have all of our blood pressure’s rising and the show starts giving Descendants of the Sun vibes. Everything picks up and though it continues with its slowest of snail burns and every typical cdrama trope under the sun-I stayed engaged.
There is a lot of oddities though that are hard for viewers to understand. Like why do we not see leads together much, the lengthy scenes of the adopted brother- they feel irrelevant- especially as the show goes on. Then we have massive gaos where we seem to have forgotten about the Firefighter bro’s. Quite frankly I think I stayed for them for a huge chunk of this show.
Overall I gave this a 7. It needed script editing and at least 10 episodes of irritation removed from the front half. BUT the leads are beautiful and acted well together (eventually when the script allowed). Their chemistry was on point.
I ended up liking it but it wasn’t a show I will bother with again. One watch only. That’s my only a disappointment because I love Yang Yang shows and his FL was probably the best one yet. They were on fire, which hearing they may have hooked up during filming - you could get a sense of. Great job.
The OST, a couple of great songs and the oddest piano piece ever. Its like they let a toddler loose with a piano, and recorded it. 🤣🤣

Second chance romance oozing with chemistry and angst with eye-candy leads.
> Chu Ran x Yang Yang visuals go hard. I have a crush on them both now.>dreadful piano bg music
> Showcased the beauty of a second chance romance. The tension and yearning was overflowing. I thought they would be together by E10 because they already liked each other from the start. Glad to see they managed to make it to E25.
Sidenote: On that episode, did y’all notice the hunger on Song Yan’s face when she briefly pulled back during their first makeout scene? Had me blushin’ 😳
> Its so weird that the second lead here is technically her brother of all people. Interesting choice from writer-nim.
> Doing CS on a dead pregnant woman is actually so controversial in the real world. Im surprised they put that in there.
>Song yan is such a serious guy. His cute playful side comes out when he interacts with his sis. Need more of that side to come out.
> I thought we were watching the love story of the brother and waitress. I didnt expect such crazy turn of events lol. Glad there was no rekindling afterwards. Made me worry for a moment. Just leave this poor man alone with his alcohol and weird sister attachment. He’s got enough problems to deal with.
> Got a bit cheesy in towards the end but still tolerable and sweet. Boyfriend version of Yang Yang got me swooning. He seems to like back hugs and even wiped his drunk girlfriend’s feet. Such an acts of service thing to do 🫠
> The firemen’s interactions with their “sister-in-law” is actually adorable.
