Loved the plot ?
I loved this drama with all of my heart. The best thing? Xie Wei's wit. Jang Xuening was good, but my only complain is she didn't whole heartedly accept Xie Wei, while he almost forced her. Yeah later they got married and surprisingly had two kids, but still I'm on Zhang Zhe's side. Anyway, the drama is full of good plot and as historical Chinese drama goes, this one is more modern. I also love rewatching it, everytime when I have nothing else to watch. Was this review helpful to you?

Top 3 historical cdrama
I loved it. The acting was great and so was their chemistry. I loved the ost as well. The little snippet of their wedding left a smile on my face during the whole thing. I wish they got into a relationship sooner, but he was so insecure and there was a lack of communication from both of them. I understand why she was hesitant in the beginning, she knew another version of him, so of course she was scared. They had very cute moments in the last I believe 10 episodes, very small and short ones but got me giggling. I wish You Fangi didn’t die and wished we saw more of her and her husband’s married life. In the end him basically bullying his son was so funny, he’s so insecure over Zhang Ze (was only funny to see on the show, if it happened in reality that would’ve been disappointing). Was this review helpful to you?
A Gripping Historical Drama Driven by Brilliant Performances and Slow-Burn Emotion
This is one of the greatest historical dramas I have watched. Even though the pacing felt a bit slow at times, I never felt like dropping the drama because the cast was excellent and the mystery kept me eager to know what would happen to the villains. There were some characters whose endings I wished had been handled differently, but I understand that the ending shown in the drama was the best possible choice for the story. The romance is very slow, but it progresses in a meaningful way. The male lead doing everything he could to protect the female lead felt romantic on its own, even when they were not clearly romantically involved. I truly loved all the characters, and the casting was absolutely brilliant.
While I would not rewatch the drama as a whole, mainly because it is a historical drama and once you know the story it becomes harder to watch again, and also because romance is not a major theme, it is still a great drama and definitely worth the time investment.

hmm
So this won’t top Scent of Time, but I enjoyed this c-drama, at first it would be a little confusing, but man the acting and chemistry is on point. I truly enjoyed this one and it only took me A day and a half to finish the whole 38 episodes plus the bonus short special.I solely approved of the ending and who she ended up with, glad that out of all the sacrifices he did for her she was finally able to realize and recognize her feelings for him.
At first I was intrigued to watch this since Bai Lu was the FL and I truly enjoyed her in Till the end of the Moon, Zhang Linghe from Love between fairy and devil (I’m halfway from that series but had to take a break, I couldn’t stand the FL there sorry), and of course Wang Xingyue from the scent of time. (he was remarkable there!)

rebirth palace politics debacle
The blurb explains the story well. I watched the drama because of Bai Lu, perceiving her character in this story to be strong. I was right. While there were times when I wondered, why was she getting into trouble by interfering in everyone's business, I could understand her motivation and reasoning, so it was nice to watch. Towards the end, she builds several strong friendships.
I really adored her relation with her father. For me this is the main highlight of the show.
The male lead's story arc/character development is also slow and subtle. He doesn't really change, remaining shy, cold and grouchy, but the direction and path that he seems to be going in changes.
The side characters on the male leads side are given depth.
On the female lead's side, the cdrama rules for side characters applies: don't get too attached, anything can happen anytime. The main focus of the story is really the plotting and counter-plotting done and executed by the FL for her own motivations. The romance is really slow burn, significant developments happen only really close to the end. The romance chemistry is a mix of many elements: frenemies, teacher-student(very less), I see you you see me (in a strategy-chess way) and mainly a bit obsessive/possessive to a degree to which some might say is toxic, but there is also an element of "even if you were to roam the world ultimately, you will come back to me" (but angst version) .
It could have been really nice, but I think in the middle it became too tense for too long and lost steam. The story ended on a high tension note, the ending seemed a bit rushed. So I felt underwhelmed. But nothing too bad.

Really good Drama
This Drama is really good I’ve been low-key obsessing over for this drama for the past few days, but i have to say that this drama would have been one of my favorites if the they wouldn’t have dragged the love triangle trope for so long, that’s one of the reasons why when the Ning’er and Xi Wei got together it felt rushed and like something was missing and that something is a build up to their relationship. It took her way to long to like him back to the point of where i got bored and a little bit frustrated. I really love all the characters, especially the main leads but i really can’t understand what the directions where thinking when they decided to drag the love triangle for so long to the point where there was almost no build up to the main leads relationship 😭Was this review helpful to you?
A good historical drama
I have watched many Chinese costume dramas, and this one is one of the most well-made dramas. The storyline is really good and the acting of FL makes it even better. Not only the FL, but the ML, side characters, all of them are so perfectly placed, it couldn't be any more perfect.I usually pay a lot of attention to scripts. The dialogue and the way each character enters or contributes to the plot is very good. A lot of dramas as such have a very typical story, but this one is quite well-presented. I would definitely recommend this drama to anyone who is a fan of costume dramas.

The Harrassment
So the story is a 10 like I could not move from my screen. but I do not feel the chemistry between the FL and ML at all. He lowkey forced himself on her with some of those kisses and it makes more sense for her to end up with the Zhang Ze guy. This story is so good, but she has chemistry with the other two guys like yan Lin or Zhang but not Xi Wei. The transaction from him being her teacher to abusing power as her teacher to make her spend time with him just did not do it for me. And those forced kisses NO NOOOO!!!Was this review helpful to you?

If you came here for Bai Lu and Zhang Linghe, I suggest you leave right away. The show didn't really focus on the love between the 2 which I didn't really mind. I'm at least glad that the entire drama didn't revolve all around love. You don't really see any chemistry between the main leads until like past episode 20.There are some characters that I just loved throughout the entire show. Not only their looks but they managed to pull off the acting of their characters so well. I love the princess's personality and this is my first drama I've seen her act but she did a really good job, and her personality is pretty hard to despise. Yan Lin also did a spectacular job. It just such a pity that they didn't end up together. I feel like Jiang Xuening shouldn't have wasted so much time with Zhang Zhe if she was going to end up leaving him.
The story also took a lot of time to explain what was going on. Basically it's a simple and basic plot. Empress Dowager's family has a lot of power in the court, and wants to take over. That is literally the plot, and Jiang Xuening gets reincarnated will all her knowledge in her past life as empress to stop all bad things from happening.
The show was mid, wasn't super good but not too bad., there are like literally 2 kissing sceneces betwwen the main leads and that's about it.

Overall the story was nice. Some parts were rushed especially towards the end but it was not terrible.
The romance would have been more entrancing if it hadn't started so late. IDK why the authors decided to spend more than half the story dwelling on the "love" story between Ning'er and Zhang Zhe.
Also, Zhang Zhe was soooooo boring to me OMG!!!, I wondered why she was so infatuated with him. He was stiff like a wood half the time they interacted.
Back to the ML and FL, I am not one for toxic portrayals of love in any shape or form but something about Zhang Linghe /Xie Wei made me close my eyes every time he was rough with her.
I am very impressed by Zhang Linghe and his portrayal of Xie Wei. I found him to be such an emotive actor, leaving the audience immersed in his character's trials and tribulations. Although he is relatively new and young, I see him achieving great things in the future.
This was my first time watching Bai Liu and I am not going to lie, I expected a lot more from her because of her reputation as a solid actress. I found her acting to be mediocre at best. She is not terrible but she needs to master her emotional scenes. Her character annoyed me a little (dwelling on Zhang Zhe) but Ning'er was ok overall. I liked her spunky and daredevil attitude.

Great Chinese Epoch drama
Story of Kunning Palace is probably one of the best Chinese dramas I've ever seen. I keeps the ancient vibe of the time, fighting scenes were done in a great way without overdoing it. Characters were introduced and developed in such a great way that the story hooks you from episode one until the very end.Was this review helpful to you?

It's a Good Drama but not THE BEST
First thing first, for those who watch this drama because they expect a romantic theme from early episodes, they should wait and be patient. I’m one of those viewers who watch for the genre and it surprise me big time, from episode 1-24, there’s no romance between the ML & FL whatsoever, they maybe respect one another but as a teacher student nothing more than that… It’s all about Political conflicts of the characters background Xue – Yan & endless conspiracies among them, during these episodes it’s infuriates me ‘cuz the ML is a very smart and calm character but the FL so rebellious & overconfidence (though she’s a goddamn villain but she seem to be getting restart like a game, go back to the checkpoint from the beginning before she make herself a bonafide villain). However Episodes 25-31, it’s getting interesting, I’m totally hooked inside the story even though the Romantic part still in progress there’s no result yet. Then from Episode 32 (which clearly reveal the ML intention i.e romantic decision towards FL definitely well written)and the rest is history. The ML became so fragile and abnormal in the 30+ Episodes.
The Emperor is a dumb idiot character, he clearly knew that his cousin (his Xue Uncle daughter) was a pathetic btch he still slept with her when she use her cheap seduce trick which she became his another harem wife, seems like he mistakenly think with his balls not brain.
When FL run to the army base camp of yan and convice the soldiers general that she’s a friend of Yan Lin and they believe her like that… that doesn’t make sense.
I like all the characters that the ML considered as friends, they are funny & loyal.
From the original poster of this drama it’s already shows that the ML & FL won’t be close or have romantic feelings to one another that soon, it takes time and yes KUNNING PALACE is full of CUNNING people indeed.
This drama has a new style of storytelling, it seems like Bai Lu character goes back through time but it’s not because its only a story inside a novel which is totally fiction and her character in the story goes back through time to her previous self or reincarnation for a second chance. Anyway it’s a good drama but boy from Ep. 01-24 imo its to dull and slow burn, it’s always argument and all that.
Even though Bai Lu was her stage name, in an Episode where her character was framed, the main items in the scenes was all about the ‘Bai Lu’ paper (types of premium paper use specifically inside Royal Palace)…. her own stage name just pops-up in a dialogue.
