? Spirit Fingers — Beautiful Lessons, Messy People

This drama is packed with some really solid messages. It reminds us that everyone has their own colors (and talents), that comparing kids does more harm than good, that parents actually need to listen to their children, and that being older doesn’t automatically make you right. Honestly, I loved these lessons — they were thoughtful and hit exactly where they needed to.
But… if we push the messages aside and look only at the story? I can’t say I loved it. 😅 Yes, everyone has their own scars, but does that give them the right to make someone else suffer? Especially someone they’ve known since forever, someone who keeps trying their best to make them feel safe? Sometimes I just wanted to scream, “Communicate, please!!”
The drama has heart and meaning, but the characters can be frustrating — and there’s a high chance you’ll end up disliking at least two people by the end. Just a warning. 😌
If you’re watching for life lessons, emotional growth, and artsy vibes, Spirit Fingers is definitely worth checking out. But if you’re expecting a smooth, feel-good story… this one might test your patience a bit. 🎨💛

P.S. (3 Dec 2025) – And yes, it is a happy ending with some meaningful realizations. Also, guys… we really need to talk our heart out sometimes. It saves so many misunderstandings. 💛

Heartwarming

Although I too really liked the entire series I just felt the last episode was way too rushed. every fight and confrontation was obviously meant to happen but they just bombarded everything in the last episode. And everything just got magically fixed after that. Yes though it is obviously fiction but there were so many real life relative aspects in the series that made it feel so relatable and thus it all just mending on its own felt unfulfilling, that's not how things work in real life.

At the end of the day Spirit Fingers is proof that you can make a good romcom without throwing in some crazy storylines, just needs to be cute and funny. The cast chemistry was good. Heartfelt healings and friendship, hilarious characters, it truly had it all. This show was very wholesome and everyone needs to watch it at least once.

Cute, but…

This drama is a fun watch so far. I like the idea of the drawing group and “unconventional” friendships. However, it’s a little too obvious to me what this drama is trying to do. This is going to sound harsh - but it’s clear this drama was intended to play out a fantasy for the average girl of some unrealistically handsome guy suddenly coming along and falling head over heels for her. The lead girl is cute and seems to be a nice person, but she’s obviously intended to represent an average, “plain” girl (despite the actress being gorgeous in my opinion) that any teenager or young woman could relate to. She doesn’t really have any hobbies or unique qualities - and that makes sense in the context of the drama due to her relationship with her mother - but there’s nothing about her that would justify some outrageously gorgeous and popular guy suddenly becoming so obsessed with her that he loses his mind. I know that’s kind of the point of the drama, but it’s hard to look past and just makes everything feel a little ungenuine. This trope does work sometimes (like in the case of Lovely Runner, where the female lead is intended to be a fairly regular girl, but her extremely bubbly and bright personality is what makes the male lead fall for her), but it just feels a little overdone. I would’ve liked to see a more average looking guy with the same personality as the male lead to show young girls that it’s not always going to be the hottest guy in the world that makes them happy and treats them right, but then again I don’t think the viewers would want to let him get away with as much obsessive behaviour if he were regular looking. Alternatively, it would make more sense for the male lead to slowly fall for her over time as he gets to know her and she starts to open up for the first time.

Overrated and Disappointing

I started this drama due to the hype, but it didn't live up to the ratings. It suffers from uneven pacing: it starts childish, picks up in the middle, but drags significantly towards the end. The writing falls apart in the final act, particularly regarding the female lead. Her character is frustratingly passive—she contributes nothing to the relationship while the male lead does all the emotional heavy lifting (chasing, apologizing, and fixing issues).

I found myself skipping scenes just to reach the ending, which felt forced—a sudden 'fairytale' resolution where everything is miraculously fixed. The only saving grace was Jun Young, who delivered an amazing performance despite the weak script. I cannot recommend this.

Behind the whimsical presentation lies the harsh reality and the promise of improvement.

It’s a good drama, but it's even better adaptation. They did not trying to make it more "realistic" and explain stuff that do not need explanation for the plot to progress. They still keep it whimsical, but they also balanced the teens and adult perspective - it felt youthful, but not childish really childish.

Is this a teen romance show? Yes. But first and foremost it's a coming of age story that presents U Yeon’s journey of gaining confidence in herself, but also in people around her. As the drama progresses, she becomes more open to new situations, people and opportunities. She learns how to set boundaries, how to voice her opinions, and how to enjoy life. As she changes, so does her relationships with her family, friends and Gi Jeong himself. The path was rough with many ups and downs, but that’s how life is - nothing comes easy, not all resolutions are perfect. Sometimes we take a step forward and then take two steps back.

I enjoyed how at first all the characters seemed extremely one dimensional perfect examples of empty cliche tropes, but as you watch more episodes you see that U Yeon is not as timid as it may seem; Gi Jeong is not really dumb and carefree; Seon Ho is not perfect and Geu Rin is not as strong as she would wish to be. The adult spirit fingers are not as eccentric and weird - while they enjoy the happy and silly moments in the club, we countlessly see how mature they also are.

The contrast between the teen and adult perfective was probably one of my favorite parts of the drama. I appreciated how Pink, Black, Brown and Khaki Fingers were not moralizing or lecturing the younger members - they let them make their own mistakes, learn from them. They knew when to silently support, when to step forward - what time required serious conversation, and when the youngsters needed joyful distraction.

What’s more to love? All the flaws. So many flaws… Not one character avoided having some annoying trait that made them so perfectly human. The egocentrism, making assumptions, too much hesitation, too much boldness. Not knowing how to set boundaries and setting too many boundaries that lead you to loneliness. I truly enjoyed how at times characters made me so annoyed.

If I had to name any flaws of the plot itself - probably how they handled U Yeon’s family conclusion. A little bit more realism would be preferred - not much, just a little bit more.

Production wise I am happy they did not waste time on explaining things we did not need the explanation for. Who cares who pays for the freaking tennis court in the cafe so the group can have fun themed meetings? How many rooms are there even in that cafe? Who cares. That’s the whimsical aspect that was the main charm of the setting in webtoon, and I am so happy they did not try to rationalize it or make it more realistic for the sake of the drama.

Then we also have a nice attention to the details - little things you need to think about and include on all stages of production to make the characters feel more real and the story more cohesive. For example - how the characters go to the club: U Yeon who had a more shy personality always changing into her outfits in the cafe, and then Gi Jeong being dressed up, no matter how flashy, already on his way, not caring for the attention he is getting.

Acting wise - perfect casting. As someone who read the webtoon years ago, I was quite scared if they would manage to find proper actors for all these vibrant and unique characters, but they managed. Not only that, they aced it. The one casting choice I was unsure of was Cho Jun Young as Red Finger/Gi Jeong. The drawing style of that character was far more sharp in facial features, so the cute baby face Cho Jun Young has seemed like an ill fit for me - Gi Jeong was supposed to feel more intimidating than that. Boy, was I wrong. Cho Jun Young ate the role - the way the crazy ass seemed so real and relatable was amazing. Gi Jeong is honestly quite unique of a person, so to make them feel like a teen you could actually see on the street was a challenge.

The soundtrack was nice, but not exactly memorable. Maybe that’s good. The whole drama is rather flashy in all aspects, so an OST that accompanies the scenes well without overshadowing them or distracting the viewers seems like a good choice.

Overall, what a pleasant watch. Could the story be better developed? For sure. Would it be nice to see more of all the side characters’ stories? Obviously. But with the limited time they had and rather challenging source material in terms of tone and setting, I think they did an amazing job bringing this plot and characters to life on screen.

I honestly don’t understand these ratings. Are they high because people rated the drama before even finishing it?

The drama starts off fresh, cute, and light, but it slowly becomes very uninteresting. The second leads’ story was enjoyable, but even that lacked real romantic depth — they felt more like friends throughout.

The ending was rushed, and I’m still confused about what the main focus of this drama was. Was it the female lead? Her family? The drawing club? Nothing was fully developed, and everything felt half-done.

I ended up skipping a lot of scenes just to get through and finish the drama.

This drama is the best

I’m absolutely obsessed with this drama! It’s packed with humor and is so relatable—it’s like they read my mind! This show definitely deserves way more love than it’s getting. The plot is super entertaining: a girl joins a drawing club just because she likes a guy. How fun is that? The cast is fantastic, and everything about it feels just right. Seriously, you have to check it out! The drama is still ongoing, and they just dropped four new episodes today. I
wanted to add more things, but I am not doing so not to give you any spoilers. You have it watch it by yourself.

Finding Yourself

Spirit Fingers isn’t a drama you watch for twists or heartbreak — you watch it for the feeling. It starts quietly, like a small whisper, and somehow ends up living in your heart.

Song Woo-yeon is a girl who has spent her whole life trying not to bother anyone — doing what others expect, smiling even when it hurts. Then she accidentally walks into the Spirit Fingers art club… and her life begins to change. Not suddenly, not dramatically — but in the way real growth happens: messy, confusing, hopeful.

The drama treats insecurity with kindness. It doesn’t mock it, it understands it. Watching Woo-yeon learn to express herself, make her own choices, and finally see her worth is the most beautiful part of the story. The romance is soft and sweet, but it never overshadows her journey — it supports it.

The art club members feel like colours — loud, weird, chaotic, but somehow perfect together. They’re the kind of friends who don’t want you to become someone else… they help you become yourself.

It isn’t perfect — the plot can be predictable, and if you want heavy twists, this won’t give you that. But what it gives instead is honesty. Every episode feels like a reminder that it’s okay to be awkward, to grow slowly, to shine in your own time.

Spirit Fingers doesn’t demand attention — it grows on you quietly, like a colour you didn’t know you needed. And when it ends, you don’t cry because it’s sad… you smile because it feels complete.

A comfort drama — maybe not for everyone,
but unforgettable for the people who need it. 💛

Coming of age gold, a story of finding oneself with cute romance speckled about

To think… I came here because Noh Min Woo and Kim Seul Gi were in the cast, Im Cheol Su, Park Jae Joon 애 끼, Cha Woo Min, Kim Hye Eun, and a couple others also drawing me in… thinking this was probably going to be on the shallow end, I just thought of it as a good way to get a dose of two Koreans I adore and have for ages!

It turned out to be so much better than I could have guessed going in blind. The premise immediately caught my attention, and ahhhh the sets were splendid, totally splendid! Minue was naturally ethereal in his role as a beautiful barista, brother, and Bigfoot’s benevolent blessing, but he was, as was that fantastic dog, an angel guiding souls to their heavenly spaces, that is, a small support cast. Kim Seul Gi again had my unconventional crush in full force. She made me flutter like Seon Ho did the two female students in the SF group.

I didn’t honestly care if romance happened in this at all. It was absolutely lovely and expected, sure, but not at all the reason this is valuable. What is precious about it is the coming of age story, finding oneself, finding one’s people, finding one’s place and purpose… and finding a way to stand against forces (in this case parents) who believe they know better than you ever can even as they are close to doing the psychological equivalent of throwing you down on your knees beside a bathtub full of water and flinging your head into that water and holding it there.

That is what the female lead is up against, and man, does this do a fantastic job showing her defense mechanisms against it/how she copes, that is, as well as her siblings (mostly the younger but we have a glance at the older, too, and see how it would’ve been were she better in school, something I found really wisely integrated since otherwise he would just be this mythical kid we have zero feelings for besides maybe resentment—somehow in just a few minutes, they gave us a clear context to the older brother who’d been talked about incesssssantly by the mother). The younger brother has more time, and at first, you just see this bratty child… then you see him soften with a bullied kid who likes him for reasons all his own, ones we don’t really share yet (kids do usually pick who they like as randomly seeming as throwing a coin into a machine and cranking a lever to get a cheap toy in a capsule!), but for a good while, he is still not particularly likable when with his sister.

Enter the sister’s new boyfriend, kind of boyfriend, at least, that kind of boyfriend in the high school way of hanging out a lot, liking each other, and so on but not actually seeming like people dating so much as a couple of kids in the same club who skipped a couple of steps, going from bullied girl and incredibly weird but nice guy who gives a kind of pep talk and is strange enough to have her not feel quite so nuts anymore… from a chance encounter to him somehow REALLY liking her immensely in the inexplicable way teen attraction just happens like a sneeze when one has a burst of sunlight strike their eyes… to them kind of flirting and her crush moving from mature guy who first brought her in and wholly accepted her and introduced her to all these other wholly accepting supportive people (truly the best people you could ever have, the kind of group, connected or separate, everyone should definitely have in their lives, people who have your back unconditionally but will tell you if you’re being an idiot, too, or need to wise up/are being uncool somehow, and I mean uncool in the sense of hurting other people because of your insecurities kind of uncool, actual uncool, not the poor labeling of people who aren’t prom queen and king candidates as uncool)…

In any case, their relationship was absolutely not grounded, not the slow simmering buildup that happens in typical “not my first crush but maybe first serious romance” 20-something relationships but the erratic, step-skipping, absolutely unstable sort that teens DO HAVE. I mean, I remember my teen era well despite having lived 4 birth to driver’s license spans so far… I had quite the mix, but insecurity was absolutely part of it even when it was the guy who was initially attracted which was kind of my normal situation (I rarely dated my crushes which is just as well lol… it would’ve broken a precious image of them that is a happy memory🤭). I usually went from same activity acquaintances to friends to mutual flutters eventually and then “dated” in that same kind of hanging out after school way with physical contact and injected words of affection of a different sort, at least emotionally, than those said to friends. Nothing was, save physical touch, different from how I spent time with friends-music, movies, books, passing notes, spontaneous art, meeting between classes and after school, phone calls, hanging out at each other’s homes.

Teen romance in this drama feels like real teen romance. What is really special, though, about how they handle it is that he gets involved in her family, specifically with the younger brother, and helps the little kid who is one of the tightest little balls of unnecessary stress, cruel levels of it, truly, unwind a bit, laugh a bit, see silliness and fun as important valuable things… and trust an adult which the adults in this sure made difficult for the child trying to be, at far too young an age and tiny a physical presence, a guardian to a sister twice his age and size. Seeing this kid’s rationale for being so cold and hostile-seeming and seeing a truly good human break a wall or several down and not give up on this kid or in turn his sister, of course, was truly heartwarming. It had to be one of the best details of the whole show.

My main gripe is probably that it was a bit hurried toward the end. The father just popped in so abruptly at the end that it felt like I didn’t really process what happened until long after the show was over. Say what? Wait, huh? Oh. I think my brain just threw the dad into some on-hold list (all by himself, mind you) WITHIN the drama. It would have been much more effective if they’d prepped us for it through the mom like we were prepped for the brief time with the older brother! I might have just been tired, of course, but it was steady and then suddenly flung together what should’ve, having seen the whole thing now, been fleshed out more and turned into 16 episodes or at least 14. I also would’ve enjoyed a bit more development of the ML, but he stayed steady (still could’ve had better relationship details shown and just more of his life beyond quick photoshoots and the FL/SF).

There are a couple of “colors” I would’ve loved getting to know better, another way they could’ve helped with those extra hours wanted, but even as it is not without shortcomings, I appreciate that at least for the characters, we get to see shortcomings stop being weaknesses at all and simply being part of the person. Coming of age stories absolutely need that factor. It isn’t that we stop being flawed but that being flawed stops being a flaw itself. This handled that beautifully.

Oh, I never pointed this out, but the cast did a FANTASTIC job! Amazing job, casting director team and director who no doubt helped cement their identities! They truly all BECAME their characters. I look forward to more of the young new faces met through this! (I couldn’t stop thinking the actress playing Se Ra reminded me of Kim Go Eun, so I hope she stays active as we need more faces like hers and KGE needs someone to play her little sis who actually resembles her)! I am glad this set of veterans were cast as they are well-known for being really warm, compassionate, savvy mentors who teach well, no doubt partly fro theatre keeping them on their toes for ones with that background… the mother mentoring the daughter as her character is ever increasingly impossible to love is always amusing to me. ☺️

In any case, I truly enjoyed this, and it wasn’t just for the handsome, gentle musician-actor and beautiful, sassy actress I came for! I recommend it to anyone who likes coming of age stories! It handled that so well I am still surprised!

Heartfelt youth drama about a teenager's personal journey and struggles!

Review (still in progress) ... will edit later ♡
It’s honestly been so long since a K-Drama hit me like this! Although there are a few overused tropes (typical high school bulliess, 2nd leads' romance arc and the list gies on ...), Spirit Fingers feels so refreshing. Love the concept of the art club as the backdrop for the characters’ stories.
It’s cute and a little silly, but also surprisingly relatable. I forgot when I last actually enjoyed a youth drama this much. The characters actually feel real, especially Song Uyeon with her own insecurities, her low self-esteem and familial struggles hit me so hard. I’m really excited to see how she grows and learns to love herself more throughout the series.
And then there’s Nam Gijeong… the complete opposite of her! He’s loud, goofy, and totally shameless in how much he likes her. They balance each other out so perfectly. I only started watching this because of him (I’m weak for the lovesick fool type haha 😭), but I stayed because they’re just so cute together. That confession scene which basically was a proposal? I was screaming, was so unexpectedly hilarious. Love how his friends support his delusions too.
Also really curious about how Uyeon’s relationship with her best friends at school will develop. There’s so much potential there for genuine emotional growth, especially with her mom too. I’m hoping we’ll get some heartfelt mother-daughter moments later on.
If you're in for a light and quick watch, do try it!

The overall message.

When I first started this show I wasn’t too sure about it simply because I thought it was just going to be another cheesy romcom that ends up lacking near the end like so many others this year. However it was quite the opposite this show had a great approach with a simple plot and great characters to follow, but with an underlying message through it all. You see following the main character some may not realize she showcased exactly how it feels to be a teen girl wishing you were someone else, and honestly I feel that a lot of views can agree with how she felt ( I definitely could). And I don’t want to throw out spoilers but the last two episodes showed her family dynamic, and internal struggle without knowing how to deal with it exactly which once again I loved. Then of course overall all the side characters are super fun, I surprisingly didn’t feel bored with any of them which props to the writers since there’s so many characters. I would say my only negative would be in how the close off a certain part of this show felt a tad rushed a certain character being forgiven too easily, but honestly it’s not too serious because we got some great stuff out of this show! Romcom writers please takes notes!
