Don't Be Too Emotional

It's not that emotional.

I signed up for a deep psychological bl drama. I got a sly flip-flopping irritating must have a happy ending at all cost bl drama. The beginning caught me. The mystery. Big Jane ominous presence. Little Jane bold but innocent nature.

Somewhere around episodes 6 or 7, it lost me and never picked back up the intrigue. It's not that it didn’t have the ingredients, it's how it came across. Personally, a drama like this should have been less family friendly and darker.

The nc at the end too performative. The voices lacking desire or intensity. The music straight from a 1970's psychedelic trippy film. Try watching the first few minutes of ep 5 of Never Forget Your Enemy and you'll get what I'm getting at. In fact all nc and kisses from that series is an upgrade.

I do like the ending with everything revealed and why but the overall viewing was not that surprising in any way.

I'm taking a break from Thai bl as it has become more grand standing and attractiveness than content and talent. Possibly when more on the level of Mile, Apo, Bible, Ohm, Fourth etc. is available. This is just off the top of my head and not favoritism.

It's not bad so I will say it is an okay watch.

Prepare Yourself.

Currently only half way through the show so review may change, will edit accordingly.

Only 6 episodes in and it feels like so much has happened. Each episode has so much packed into it, sometimes you can lose sense of time progressing but it’s not too bad.

If you are a victim of domestic abuse or have lost someone close to you I would suggest giving this show a miss as it could be quite triggering, or atleast be prepared.

The acting is amazing, the story definitely hits you in the feelings and not always in the good way. Iminterested for the second half of the show.

It's okay... I think it could be a little better.

So far it's okay. I think what I don't like about this TV series is the the one that is called Little Jane. He gets on my nerves and if the only reason that I gave it the stars that I did! He gets on my last nerve. I'm not sure why but he he's just annoying! I have almost stopped watching this at every turn because Little Jane is annoying. The only reason why I keep watching this is because I do like Big Jane. Granted, at first I didn't like him much because I really thought that he was some sort of demon, especially when I saw the trailer for it and he had black demon wings coming out of his back; however, the more I watch it the more I see that that's not the case, but Little Jane...... He is just so freaking annoying. I can't stand him!! But I am going to finish watching this because I do want to know how this ends. Little Jane though is cringe-worthy. He gives me goosebumps and not in a good way. I am just so close to being through with him. I noticed so many people are giving it such high ratings and it's making me question if we're all watching the same series and if I'm the only one that finds Little Jane annoying!

Lacks Depth

Initially the story was intriguing where Big Jane has rumours about him and people who make deals with him. And Little Jane can't help be drawn to him out of curiosity either. Sadly, there was really no big mystery behind it and the story just shows how Big J non-consensually kisses Little J time and time again.

Frankly I forgot when these two fell in love or why they even love each other. Little Jane doesn't trust Big Jane which leads to misunderstandings. To be honest, there really isn't much to the plot to even talk about even after 9 episodes. I've decided to pause and leave the last 3 episodes to watch once the finale is out and perhaps my rating will improve.

I have mainly been watching this drama on 2x because it is too slow moving for my liking. The best thing about it is the OST. The opening theme song 'Colorblind' is really good and probably the only thing I love about the drama so far.

Completed the last 3 episodes on 2x as well. They did popular drama tropes which was cringe but at least something was finally happening in the series. In fact, while watching ep 10, I was talking to the screen, please say, "--- --- ---?" and laughed a lot when little Jane did. So, for unintentionally making me laugh, I raised the rating by 0.5.

The unfortunate thing about this drama is that it wasn't directed well. The emotions little Jane was feeling didn't make sense a lot of the times. In fact, even his expressions confused me to the point where I didn't know if he was laughing or crying.

It's not that I hate the drama but more so that it failed to evoke any kind of emotion which was disappointing. I just wanted to get over with it. Personally, it's a skip but DO listen to the OST.

The finale was better, but the damage was already done

Disclaimer: I don’t hate the actors at all. I’m only criticising some of the writing choices.

This show turned into a whole telenovela. It reminded me of The Wicked Game when he literally came back to life lmao, same level of soap opera. But yeah, the show had so many ups and downs. I enjoyed it at times, but other times … not so much.

The trailer made it look so damn good, and then we got … this. I really thought things would get better after their break and reunion at the office, but nope. Just one frustrating episode after another.

The actors were honestly so good, though. They really made these characters work despite the writing. I spent the whole time wanting them to find better matches, only to realise they probably deserve each other and should’ve been together under better circumstances. The red flag was actually more of a green flag and vice versa. The more I think about it, the funnier it gets.

And we barely even got to enjoy them as a couple. They could’ve spent a few episodes on actual character development instead of cramming random plot points into the last two episodes. Like, please, respect the audience!!

I really hope they get a better-written show in the future because they absolutely lived up to their roles. The writing just let them down.

It’s also hilarious how hard the show tried to make Lil Jane this poor, sympathetic victim when his mood swings were honestly too much to handle. That character genuinely escaped the writers and started living his own life. Although… what kind of life is that?
The only one I actually felt sorry for was P. Jane. He was basically treated like a fucking rag the entire time despite everything he did for his boyfriend. And we barely got enough of his backstory to really understand him, which could’ve actually been interesting. Instead, they went for the cheap amnesia plot, followed by his brother getting kidnapped. And then Dan shooting him.
When you can’t write, you just keep ticking off plot points and make the audience chase after them.

And honestly, I’m just glad it was amnesia. He could’ve fallen into a furnace and survived his own cremation. With these writers, I wouldn’t even be surprised if they pulled something like that.
And Dan… our precious Dan he was around WAY too much. Lil Jane kept gravitating towards him like a moth to a flame it was unbearable to watch

I’m genuinely glad some people were able to enjoy this show. It just wasn’t for me. Overall, pretty average in my opinion. Tho the last episode was actually pretty decent.

Rating: 6.5/10 bonus points for the couple

a chemistry lead dark romance that fizzles as it burns

there's a lot to enjoy about this show. it's sexy, intense, curious, and doesn't hold back on the melodrama (which I tend to enjoy in a bl). I had a lot of fun watching it as it aired, I grooved to the main theme every single week, and I fell in love with tee and heng.

however...

as much as I wanted to REALLY love this show, it felt at times like they didn't fully want to commit to the 'red flag' character being a red flag and that just left us with a boring premise. as much as the actors did their best to make the script work, there wasn't enough bite to the story for them to really sink their teeth into these characters.

there were a few odious directorial/editing mistakes sprinkled throughout which can really catch you off guard while watching and they drove me crazy - even more so the use of generative ai. we cannot start normalising gen ai in our bl's, we just can't.

I doubt I'd rewatch this show but I would recommend it to someone looking for something a little different, with the caveat that it's not as well written as it could have been

Why is this director still working

High expectactions off the reviews. Set aside my weekend to immerse. What? The first five hours/episodes were glacial. The director kept putting Young Jane in the frame and longingly focusing on him for 30-50 seconds as he attempted to find an emotion. Rather like watching a tree sloth trying to move to another limb. That bad. The kid is pretty but has a long way to go as an actor. The script is pedestrian. Then episode 6 it picked up story line for a bit. Then back to the same horrible acting by young Jane in episode 7. Sorry to single him out but he really is wooden, inexperienced and unable to carry a series, especially a 12 hour Lakorn. Could have been done in 8 episode. I wish him well and that he finds a better director in future. Yes, I REALLY Blame the director. He has a problem with pacing, thinks painfully slow is suspensful rather than lethargic bilge. Have a feeling he watcheds Hitchcock as a kid and didn't get it. Yes he did the first Tarn/Type, with Mame basically directing in the background. Kid is clueless. Liked the OST.

An Absolutely Terrible Movie—Nonsensical and Featuring Some of the Worst Acting I’ve Ever Seen.

The trailer is a fucking scam. It made you think this was going to be an intense, dramatic masterpiece, but the actual film is nothing more than beautifully shot TRASH.

Straight up, this film is SHIT. Episodes 1 and 2 were barely watchable, and the further it goes, the more it completely falls apart. It just nosedives with no brakes.

The only good thing about this show is the visuals. The cast is hot, the locations are beautiful, and that's pretty much it. Everything else belongs in the trash.

Especially Jane Lil. His acting is a fucking disaster — indescribably bad. His face is as stiff as a wax statue. He can't cry, can't show pain, and can't deliver a single line naturally. Every emotional scene he touches makes you want to turn the TV off. He's pretty, sure, but he acts with absolutely zero soul.

And it's not just him. The entire family and supporting cast are just as weak. The dialogue is so fucking stupid and cringey, like a bunch of brain-dead people talking to each other. Half the time, I was genuinely wondering if the director and screenwriter were high when they wrote this shit. Every line feels pointless, unnatural, and painfully forced.

The script was already garbage, and the actors somehow managed to stomp all over it and make it even worse. The film has ZERO emotion. Scenes that are supposed to make you cry just make you sleepy. Scenes that are supposed to be tense are bland as hell. Romantic scenes are so awkward they give you secondhand embarrassment. You finish the whole thing feeling nothing but pissed off that you wasted your time.

And then there's Jet. His karma and punishment are handled so fucking stupidly. After all the horrible shit he did, the price he pays at the end is ridiculously light — light as a feather. It's nowhere near enough and doesn't feel deserved at all.

He should have paid a much heavier, much more miserable, much more painful price for what he did. Something that would actually feel satisfying and justified. Instead, the writer took the lazy way out and rushed the ending just to get the damn story over with. It's practically disrespectful to the audience.

In short: This is the scam of the century. The trailer tries so damn hard to bait people into watching, only for the actual show to be a complete disaster of acting, writing, dialogue, and execution. The more you watch, the more you feel like you've just wasted your fucking time.

Only pro: Pretty faces.

Cons: Literally everything else that makes a film a film.

I genuinely don't understand how the director watched this pile of garbage, looked at the finished product, and still had the audacity to put it on air.
Have some fucking shame.

Assault with a side of consent

This show was awful. The concept of it had such potential to be great and it fell so flat. It would've been instantly better if it was supernatural show. Big Jane should've been an actual demon and it would've made the show way more interesting. These writers and show makers are always so afraid to commit to things. If you want a dark and twisted romance, then do it. Instead, they all advertise it as one and then just show hints of it throughout the series or throw in assault and r*pe and call it good enough. Dark romance is a lot more than that, but they never fully commit to it, and this show is a perfect example of that. This show had a lot of red flag characters and a lot of assault and that was basically it.

Like I said before, Big Jane should've been an actual demon. The deals he was making with people would've made more sense that way for how they happened. He was causing miracles to happen at the snap of a finger, it would fall apart just as fast, and he had the necklaces with people's blood, but it was just because he was a rich dude who could make it happen? Why? If he was a demon, it would've made sense, why he needed their blood and why these people's requests happened so quickly. It also would've made him way more intimidating. He was supposed to be this scary guy on campus, but he was not any more intimating than just a basic toxic man. He was a huge red flag, assaulted little Jane multiple times which was not okay, he had no growth throughout the series at all even after the time skip and just had no likeable qualities at all.

Little Jane just annoyed me throughout almost the entire series. He was so boring and never seemed to know what he wanted. He wanted to know how Big Jane lived but then would just get upset at everything he said or did, but never at the things that he should be upset about. For example, Big Jane saved Little Jane's family from the brother's debt and never once asked them to leave their house or shop and yet Little Jane got upset with him for their family having to move even though Big Jane NEVER SAID THEY HAD TO. This is just one of the MANY times he did this. He just never seemed to know what he wanted and was constantly changing his mind about things and getting upset over it. He really didn't have much of a personality either and wasn't very likeable.

Dan was way too obsessed for Little Jane and for no reason. He was constantly stalking him and making him uncomfortable. Him going crazy in the finale didn't surprise me for how psychotic he was throughout the rest of the show, but it still left me wondering why he ever got so obsessed with him in the first place. I didn't like either of the Janes, but I really hated this dude. Speaking of characters I hate...Put. He, like Dan, was so obsessed with Jane. He also assaulted Jane. I was so happy when he died because he was just a piece of garbage. I don't get why everyone was so obsessed with him, but they were. Once again like Dan, we don't really ever find out why he was obsessed with Little Jane either. I know they both liked him but there should've been more than that.

The spice in the show was fine (on the few occasions it was consensual), the finale was fine and had the most happening in the entire show, the acting was okay, but god the rest of this show was such a mess. It was so boring, had the most unlikeable characters, had so much assault, and just horrible writing. It just felt like the writers didn't know if they wanted to commit to the dark romance the entire time. I haven't seen a lot of the actors before, so I don't know if it's a case of bad actors or just bad writing. Absolutely do not recommend.

I finished it (Trigger warning for SA)

I feel like I should get a reward for that because I wasn't the least bit interested in it after I started watching it. This wasn't the thriller they made it out to be. I was expecting something dark and twisted, but instead we got a college student making blood pacts with people, and those people making situations out to be 10X worse than they actually were. Why blood pacts? No idea.

The pacing made all but a couple of episodes a slog to get through. It didn't help that the episodes were longer than they needed to be, and watching at a higher speed only helped a little. The characters also didn't help. Our main characters had good chemistry, which is nice because I didn't care about them at all, and a lack of chemistry would have made me DNF the series so fast. The side characters were also just there half the time, and half of them served no real purpose. Jet's character, for example, was only there to cause problems and further the plot, while the parents & friends are just there to fill out the world.

Some little things also didn't make sense. Like, I'm a business major, and dancing classes weren't a part of the mandatory curriculum, last time I checked. I also don't get having sex with someone you just accused of murdering someone. Injuries also looked days old after only a couple of hours had passed.

There were a couple of things I liked about the series. I liked the scene with the confusion of American football and football everywhere else. There was a cool POV shot from the car as well. The production value was good; it's just the plot and script that wrecked the show. The OP, however, was my favorite thing; I already saved the song.
