A Promising Concept Trapped in an Outdated Melodrama

Don’t Be Too Emotional began with an appealing premise: a dangerously attractive senior who warns others not to become emotionally attached to him, and a sincere young man who gradually discovers the person hidden behind that intimidating image.

Unfortunately, the series never made full use of that concept. Jane was introduced as a charismatic, almost devilish figure, but the story gradually softened him without exploring enough of his complexity. Gemini’s amnesia, the family conflict, the herbal medicine shop, Dan’s obsession and the revenge plot kept the drama moving, yet many developments felt repetitive and overly convenient.

The final episode brings back Gemini’s memories, restores his relationship with Jane and even allows him to become a successful manga artist. Just when everything appears settled, the story adds one last kidnapping, confrontation and shooting. Dan’s motive is finally explained, but his actions remain difficult to sympathize with—especially since he repeatedly harms the very person he claims to love.

The leads have enough chemistry to make their relationship watchable, and Jane’s obvious happiness after Gemini remembers him is genuinely sweet. However, the series relies too heavily on familiar melodramatic devices and leaves several characters and conflicts underdeveloped.

I watched all twelve episodes, but I was left thinking that the “devilishly charming senior” premise could have produced a much more exciting and distinctive drama.

fave series of 2026

i freaking love this series. it did fall of for 1-2 episodes towards the end but i kept watching and it picked back up. it had a really really good start. i do wish they did a little more with big jane's whole deal making thing but im not mad they didnt. i loved this series for the romance, not the plots. i was STARVINGGG for a heavily romance based series and this served.

tee and hengs chemistry is off the charts - im so happy they will be working together again. they are good actors and they are very handsome and match each other visually. anyways, let me get to the series.

pros: good chemistry, good acting, love the colourblind ost, toxic ml at the beginning, fire nc scenes even though there werent a lot. i will be rewatching this series.

cons: weak plot but as i said, that is not much of a con to me because the series more so focused on the relationship between jane and jane and i love that. my biggest problem with this series is that big jane is not toxic all the way through lol i wish he was actually a bad guy but he really isn't. he gets soft towards the end. i love toxic couples so that was a bit disappointing to me but i loved them nonetheless. other than that, i really dont have much bad to say. i did hate the whole amnesia thing but i am glad it got resolved all in one episode. seemed kinda pointless to me though.

one thing i really would like to know though: what happened to dan? is he dead from the gunshot wound or is he still alive and in hospital/jail? i think he is dead but they dont actually clarify that.

i recommend this series to anyone who likes toxic ml as big jane is a toxic ml in the first half of the series. also, if you really like series that focus on the mls relationship and do not waste time on useless stuff.

Honestly, this series deserves nothing less than 10/10! ⭐⭐⭐

This series is such a beautiful and captivating BL series. From the storyline to the characters, the chemistry, romance, and emotional moments, everything came together so well. It is the kind of series that makes you laugh, smile, feel butterflies, upset and sometimes even get emotional right along with the characters.

What I loved most was the chemistry between the leads. Their connection felt natural, and watching their relationship develop was absolutely satisfying. The characters had depth, and their emotions made the story feel genuine and relatable.

The romance was sweet, the emotional scenes were powerful, and the little moments between the characters were simply unforgettable. I also loved how the story showed vulnerability, trust, understanding, and the courage to love despite fear and uncertainty.

This is definitely one of those BL series that stays on your mind even after finishing it. If you're looking for romance, chemistry, emotions, beautiful moments, and a story that pulls you in from beginning to end, this one is worth watching.

“You’re a red flag, but I’m colorblind...”

I totally loved this series. Everything in it was perfect. The story was a true emotional rollercoaster and I was totally ready for the ride. The great cast, great acting, and great story kept me hooked, wanting to see how it was all going to play out. Tee and Heng had amazing chemistry together. I usually don’t comment on the NC scenes, but they were really sexy and sensual. Really well done! Both actors completely nailed their roles. Tee brought a mysterious, cold, obsessive Big Jane to life, and Heng was perfect at showing all of Lil Jane’s vulnerability. His eyes speak more than words ever could.

That said, I don’t want to be too emotional, but... most of the time, I just wished Big Jane had a better partner. I mean, he was always sincere with Lil Jane, but Lil Jane never actually trusted him. It makes me wonder if a relationship like that is ever going to work. Lil Jane’s eyes always had that spark of doubt: Is he telling the truth? Is he lying to me? every single time Big Jane opened his mouth. To be honest, Lil Jane really annoyed me most of the time! P’Dan’s plot twist was pretty interesting, though, and I definitely wasn’t sad about what happened to him.
The ending scene was so beautiful! But now I need a season two yesterday!!!!!

I also have to mention the young actor who played Jamie. He’s such a great actor and has the most beautiful, sincere smile. I really hope to see him in another project soon!

Surprisingly Good Character Writing

This is a BL series I genuinely enjoyed after a long time. I was sceptical at first since we’ve seen similar stories with poor execution, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well the main characters were handled.

I loved how consistent their personalities stayed. Little Jane says he doesn’t trust people easily, and we see his anxiety and doubts build because he’s scared of getting hurt, while still being honest about his feelings. Big Jane is naturally unsocial and struggles to express himself, so watching him slowly understand his emotions was really interesting, especially as Little Jane was reaching his limit.

I also loved that we understood the characters through their actions rather than constant childhood flashbacks. Their backstories came through their own perspectives, making it feel like we were gradually figuring them out ourselves.

There are some plot gaps, like random fight scenes and awkward side characters, but the leads carried the story well. Overall, it was the characters and their delivery that made it worth watching.

Violent psycho maniac and his Vanilla

This has significant minus points from me, despite there being significant plus points too.

The minus points are the 20 first minutes I proudly skipped (not even fast-forwarded) — the rating, thanks to me doing the editing work for the editor, gets +2.0 on the rating.

The PWP sex scene, which was just hilarious — did Little Jane watch porn before this intercourse?

The absolutely disgusting episode where Big Jane approved of women hitting/beating. That is the biggest taint of this series; there wasn't even an attempt at redeeming it there.

Misleading trailer — I would rather see BigJ (not Big Jane's BigJ's, not to confuse!) as a seriously meant demon than it being Little J's fantasy projection.

Which brings us to... hideous sculpture.

Overuse of art fields. Like, if everyone is an artist, it gets obviously too much (no, hon, no, IRL everyone is, no worries — it stops making sense only in fiction).

Despite what was being said and/or if we like Biggie JJ, Biggie JJ IS a red flag. He is manipulative, obsessive as fuck, and approves of violence. Even contributes to it. So — no, no grass anywhere near him, sorry. 🤷

Any excuse why, after LilJj removes Dan from Jamie, BigJJ is standing there like a dumb yo-yo?

Plus points:

They are really good at angsty, dark waters. I would stick to that, and I would cut the crap about LilJ's vanilla personality.

Also, I wish they got a better script next time. Not only exciting, tensioning, darking, and making sense, but also not a stupid one.

...I mean, the first 22 minutes were absolute crap I would cut out — and no, making it extreme later on just highlights how crap the first 22 minutes were. Don't do this, please. Do not waste 22 initial minutes for some psycho move later on.
