Don’t Be Too Emotional 9/10

I’ve just finished Don’t Be Too Emotional (อย่าขอพี่เจน), a Thai BL series that combines romance, drama, and mystery. After finishing the series, here are my thoughts.

📖 1. Story & Plot

The story caught my attention from the very beginning. I really liked the way the series takes its time building the story while gradually introducing mysteries and questions that make you want to keep watching.

One of the things that kept me interested was the mystery surrounding the characters themselves. Throughout the early episodes, I kept wondering, “Why is this character like this?” and “What happened in the past that led to everything happening now?”

The first half, particularly the early and middle parts of the series, does a good job of creating curiosity and keeping the mystery alive.

However, once the story begins focusing more heavily on the characters' relationships and emotional development, I felt that the pacing became noticeably slower. There were a few moments where I found myself getting a little bored.

That said, I think the series managed to bring everything together nicely toward the end. The conclusion felt satisfying and, for me, was a fitting way to wrap up the story.

🎭 2. Acting & Characters

I have to give credit to the entire cast here.

Everyone did a good job portraying their characters and conveying their emotions in a natural and believable way. The performances felt appropriate for the tone of the story, whether the characters were dealing with emotional, romantic, or more mysterious moments.

Personally, I don't have any major complaints about the acting. It is definitely one of the stronger aspects of the series.

🎥 3. Production

The production is another area that I really enjoyed.

The cinematography, composition, color palette, lighting, and overall atmosphere work together very well to support the mood of the story.

One particular aspect I appreciated was the way the series presents the characters' intimate and sensual moments. The scenes have a sexy quality without going too far, while also incorporating more artistic visual elements.

The use of lighting in these scenes is especially effective. Rather than simply presenting intimacy for the sake of it, the visual direction gives these moments a certain atmosphere and aesthetic that makes them more memorable.

🎵 Music & OST

The soundtrack is another highlight for me.

In particular, “Colorblind” by JUNG PERSES feat. GeniePak really stood out.

Honestly... WOW. 😂

The song immediately got stuck in my head from the first time I heard it, and somehow it stayed there all the way until I finished the series. It fits the overall mood really well and became one of the things I associated most strongly with the series.

⭐ Overall

Overall, Don’t Be Too Emotional is an interesting BL series that brings together mystery, romance, character relationships, acting, and strong visual presentation.

The pacing does become a little slow in the latter part of the series, and there were moments when I felt the story could have moved a little faster. However, I still found the overall experience enjoyable, and there are plenty of elements that I genuinely liked.

What I particularly appreciate is that the series doesn't reveal everything immediately. It gives the audience questions first and gradually provides the answers, which makes the mystery more enjoyable to follow.

The visual direction and intimate scenes are also handled with a nice balance between sensuality and artistry, while the performances help ground the more dramatic elements.

Overall, I think this is a series worth giving a chance.

As for what actually happens in the story...

Well, you'll have to watch it yourself. 😆

📺 Don’t Be Too Emotional is available to watch in full as an iQIYI Original.

Actually, this drama has a good storyline and the basic plot is quite interesting. But after episode 8, the story starts becoming repetitive and a bit messy. The same things keep happening again and again, and Little Jane’s brother is always causing problems. They also keep treating Big Jane as if he isn’t really one of them, and they don’t even try to get help from him when they have problems.
I understand that they had already done a lot for him before, so I can understand why they might not want to depend on him. But because of the way they treat Big Jane, I just didn’t really feel that strong connection or love between them. For me, their relationship didn’t feel as deep or convincing as it was supposed to.

And Little Jane keeps hurting Big Jane and leaving him every time. Even when he loses his memory, he ends up doing the same thing again. At some point, it became frustrating to watch because I felt like we were just going through the same cycle over and over again.
I think I completely lost interest after episode 9. At that point, I just wanted the drama to end quickly.

When I first saw the trailers and added this to my watchlist, I honestly thought it was going to be something like TharnType. I thought it was going to be exactly my kind of drama and maybe even become one of my favorites. But unfortunately, it turned out to be the complete opposite of what I expected.

As for acting Big Jane is good-looking, but I don’t think he is strong enough for this character, from the storyline and the character itself, Big Jane is supposed to be a strong and dangerous character. But somehow, this actor doesn’t really give me that feeling. I don’t know exactly what it is, but he just doesn’t have the strong presence that the character needs. So for me, the dangerous Big Jane character doesn’t really suit this actor.

As for Little Jane, he is not a bad actor, but I wouldn’t say he is particularly good either. His emotional delivery needs some improvement. Especially when he cries, sometimes it looks like he is smiling, so I couldn’t really feel the emotion in those scenes. However, when it comes to showing emotions, I think he is slightly better than Big Jane—maybe only 0.5 better. Neither of them delivers the emotions as strongly as they should.

Actually, both Big Jane and Little Jane sometimes fail to deliver the emotions properly. There are scenes where I feel like the emotion should be much stronger, but their acting doesn’t fully make me feel what the characters are supposed to be feeling. they do have chemistry, but it’s not really chemistry-ing for me. 😂 There is definitely something between them, but their chemistry doesn’t stand out enough to make me fully invested in their relationship.

Overall, the storyline had potential, but the repetitive plot, messy parts, emotional delivery, and the way the relationship was handled made this a huge disappointment for me. Definitely not what I expected from the trailer, and honestly, one of the worst experiences for me.

I have many questions...

The script isn't really clear to me. There's so much missing, and I was left with so many questions.

I really missed seeing more of Big Jane's life. It feels like the story focused more on Little Jane's life, while Big Jane was made to seem like a bad person, but he really isn't. That's just the way he lives his life.

The opening song is, of course, amazing. No words! I've been playing it on repeat. ❤️

PUT's death. Nobody mentioned it, there was no sadness, and they just completely glossed over his death. Why? He was the best person in the entire series! ❤️

Dan's life also needs its own story.

Rating: 7.5/10 Only because of Big Jane and his incredible acting. Also, PUT, Dan, and the OST. ❤️

Angsty BL of my life

Their chemistry is insane, like top lvl actually. It carried the show. Both leads are really good, the OST is great and the color grading is really pretty.

Big jane has the perfect psycho face lmao. He can go from seductive billionaire to terrifying in two seconds. The whole thing of him being a "demon" confused me at the beginning, there's like no supernatural in this show. It's giving more like shady contracts to have power over people than anything else. He's manipulative, specially at the beginning of the show and it will make u doubt who's right. He falls first and harder I'd say. So if you're into obsessive tops this one for ya.

Lil Jane instead, is an angel. Someone willing to sacrifice everything for his family and friends. He's for sure the weak link, but I still enjoyed the character and the acting. Sometimes is actions are not 100% understandable and make little sense.

The whole relationship is basically Little Jane slowly learning to believe in himself, pursue his art, and accept being loved, while Big Jane is constantly providing. At first it seems kinda manipulative in a way. This is a recurring theme, and Little Jane struggles to accept it because he doesn't want to be just like everybody else to Big Jane. He wants Big Jane to not be the only one giving, but also receiving. I think it's a very nice debate and very relevant to the billionaire trope.

I do feel some things were rushed. There's a lot of arcs and things that happen in the 12eps that could have been whole arcs and fully fleshed out. First half until ep 8 is great an 9/10 even, but the second half it gets weaker and a rollercoaster of angst.

Read the Novel if you loved the drama It's so so Good

I read the Novel half way while watching the drama and I just loved it way more. P'Jane is CRAZY like we need a doctor to check his head, and Lil Jane actually eventually embraces him fully even giving full blessings for his "Favour" business. I completely understand why the drama had to tone it down the red flag becomes a black flag in the novel and I am ALL for it.
The intense love they have for eachother is portrayed beautifully too, the OST is perfect fit and the characters development was nice to watch, some parts I felt were much better in the novel but that's okay. All in all I advise you to check the novel out too.

RED FLAG IT IS...

This is the typical BL drama I watch, and honestly, I had a great time with it. The cast is perfect, the story is a little better than average, but the entertainment value is definitely high.

I really enjoyed watching this drama, especially because it gives us the kind of red-flag character that I love watching slowly fall in love. 😂 The chemistry between the leads is amazing, and I genuinely enjoyed every scene they had together. Their intimacy was also *chef’s kiss*—as perfect as it could be.

What I really liked was getting to follow their love story through different stages of their lives—from college to the office and eventually to marriage. It made their relationship feel like a journey rather than just a simple romance.

Although, by the end, I did feel like the story was a little incomplete. But I’m guessing there’s going to be a Part 2, so I’m not complaining too much.

If you’re someone who loves watching a red-flag/bad character slowly fall in love and completely lose his mind over the person he loves, then this is definitely one for you. 😂

Captivating Red Flags and Magnetic Visuals: A Review of Don't Be Too Emotional

Don't Be Too Emotional serves up a magnetic dark romance fueled by striking visuals, compelling mystery, and an irresistible lead pairing. Tee Boonyakait and Heng Thatpong deliver off-the-charts chemistry as Big Jane (Jane Patrick) and Little Jane (Jennalee), pairing incredible visual appeal with a deliciously complex dynamic. Big Jane’s aura as a mysterious, wish-granting "red flag" gives the early episodes an instantly captivating hook, pulling viewers straight into the dark, intriguing atmosphere as the supernatural favors unfold. However, the series stumbles slightly in its mid-section narrative logic. The emotional momentum takes a puzzling hit when Little Jane breaks up with Big Jane over his shady, dangerous business—only to reconcile shortly after while Big Jane continues operating the exact same secret venture. Despite that frustrating bit of circular character logic, the overall concept, core premise, and supporting cast remain well-crafted and thoughtful throughout. Tee and Heng's electric dynamic and strong screen presence make this dark, wish-granting romance an thoroughly engaging watch.

Started really strongly but faded at the back end, disappointingly.

I came because of the darkness of the teasers and stayed because I genuinely liked the characters.

The story follows Jane Patrick (P’Jane), an uber wealthy and rather scary young man with a hazy backstory and the love affair he has with his polar opposite Little Jane, a sunny, slightly naive fellow university student from a fairly humble background. One of the reasons people tend to stay clear of P’Jane is the rumours surrounding the ‘favours’ he grants. Most people do not understand the exact mechanics of what he does but everyone knows that if you cross him you will come to a sticky end. Over time and thanks to Little Jane, P’Jane starts to understand how dangerous these favours really are when Little Jane’s baby brother asks for his help. Will their love survive the fallout from this favour turning sour?

The first few chapters were brilliant, tense, angsty and full of red flags so large that they could be seen from outer space and I was hoping the drama would continue with the same intensity.

Unfortunately not.

The last couple of chapters lost this drive and for some reason the script writers even introduced several s*x scenes in quick succession that added little value to the overall. For example, earlier in the drama, the nc scene in P’Jane’s art gallery was raw, intense, meaningful and necessary to the story whereas the bath scene from the penultimate episode was truly anticlimactic and pointless and I get that they’re BL actors not porn stars but seriously, how could the scene from the first half of the drama be so much more powerful than the one in the second half? Did the same script writers and director own both halves of this drama? My final criticism is actually to do with the ending of the final scene which was just terrible and made me wonder exactly what the point of it was - did they need to add a few more minutes to the viewing experience perhaps?

On the whole the actors were really suited to their characters and I felt really connected to the emotions they were portraying. The lead pairing had fantastic chemistry, some nc scenes aside. The plot was clever and engaging but I did feel that it would have been so much better if the director had had the passion to ensure that the strength of the beginning was carried all the way to the end.

Would I watch it again? Disappointingly not but there were several scenes that I really, really enjoyed.

Missed opportunity to be a 10.

At this point, I'm wondering if I would've enjoyed this series more if I'd watched it earlier. However, after seeing so many great BL productions, I've started to get picky 😭. I created my own hell 😂.

Okay, back to the series. It was a 10/10 until episode 5 and that thwarted attempt of SA. Yes, I know he finally stopped, but why do they keep adding these scenes? Because he's a red flag? No, that doesn't justify it. The other guy was literally sobbing there.

BTW, Big is actually not a red flag, especially in the second part of the series.

Also, somewhere in the second half of the series, the writers started playing BL Bingo and adding: accident (check ✅), amnesia (check ✅). Don't you have better ideas for the plot?

Plus, the whole idea of Little Jane being a nanny to the little brother... why? That was like a second job. Why would he even do that? Plus, all three of them living at his place 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 I can't...

Also, that little shitty brother, Jet, got on my nerves 😂. How many times are you gonna get yourself into trouble again?

So, to sum up, I actually liked the series, but it could've been so much better if they'd stuck with the initial ideas of the red flag / "don't get emotional" storyline instead of playing BL Bingo.

man, y'all can miss me with the BS.

this is about to be a short one because seriously.

i started typing this before i finished episode six as i was leaning toward dropping this. now, i am torn and pissed because why was big jane written to be so retrospective, at the end of the episode? seeing little jane cry and big jane reflect aggravates me because now i think i should finish this clown car of a BL. edited to add: finished episode nine and i am done. little jane is as logical as a box of zippers and as infuriating as there being no ice cream in an ice cream shop.

i began binging this eight hours ago. i do not even know if i want to finish this. can someone tell me why everyone in this is straight garbage? the only good people in this are the ones who do not add to the plotline excluding gap. gap is the only support character who was worth a damn. little & big jane are doodoo, dan is doodoo, put is doodoo, jet is doodoo & i am sure anyone else introduced in the following would be doodoo. i only got to episode six for the intimacy between the janes anddddd it is just assault. why do you BL creatives love sexual assault so much? also, whoever put the actor for put's character in this needs to be dismantled, he is a horrible actor - i am sorry.

i know there is a forsaken five year timeskip and i do not think i can hold out until that. i documented all the foolishness i observed watching this and i am in awe. i will give it to y'all, i agree with the community for this title. this BL is a dilapidated circus in a trash bucket. by the way, screw all you industry people with your horrifying AI promotion and usage; you disgust me.

I Broke Rule #1: I Got Too Emotional❤️

I broke rule number one—I got way too emotional over this series! I started watching this on June 26, 2026, and tuning in every single Friday became the absolute highlight of my week. There was never a single boring episode. The angst, revenge, and plot twists kept me completely hooked. Plus, can we talk about the OST?! "Colorblind" by Jung PERSES ft. GeniePak is easily the best OST of the year—the lyrics "You're a red flag, but I'm colorblind" literally sum up this entire show and Big Jane's storyline! I’m already planning to buy the physical book because a series this memorable deserves a permanent spot in my collection.
The Chemistry & Big Jane Defense
I am an absolute Big Jane apologist till the very end! Red flag or not, Jane Patrick is a deeply misunderstood character who never had anyone truly on his side—not even his own father. When he finally opened up and gave away his trust necklace, watching that fall apart broke my heart. The Favor Game wasn't just a game; it was his quiet cry for relief and real connection.Their dynamic with Little Jane is pure electric tension. Yes, Little Jane’s constant urge to run away and ask for "space" made my heart ache for Big Jane, but watching them navigate their wall of mistrust, subtle details (the needle prick, the unbuckling of the seatbelt, the lilacs), and unspoken feelings made their relationship so uniquely compelling.
Flawed Characters, Unforgettable Story
Even when characters got frustrating—like Little Jane jumping to conclusions or Jet's selfish choices—it all served the character-driven narrative. The writing delivers subtext and quiet moments over cheap tropes, making every single detail matter. If you love grounded drama, deep emotional angst, top-tier soundtracks, and main lead chemistry, do not skip this. Don’t Be Too Emotional isn't just another BL; it's an unforgettable masterpiece. 10/10!

TEEHENG is SO GOATED

this drama was SO GOATED!! like I genuinely enjoyed it so much. Heng and Tee’s chemistry was EVERYTHINGGG. I loved them sm and they both deserve all the love they’ve gotten for their acting because I can only imagine how hard it must’ve been to play these characters. everything about their acting just felt so good and natural. buttt... I can’t give it a 10/10 because I do feel like it was missing quite a few things. there were some parts where I was like “wait… but WHY?” 😭 especially when it came to P’Jane’s past and some of the things he got involved in. I really wish we got more context about how certain things happened because even after finishing it I’m still like… okay but what actually happened.. and with Lil Jane, I kinda wish we got more of his side too. especially because of how he usually reacts when he thinks P’Jane has done something wrong. In the last ep when Dan explained what PJane has done to his fmaily.. i think that's where I was expecting Lil Jane to question P’Jane even more and I’m actually glad he didn’t immediately turn against him like before but I wish they had a proper conversation about it later when P’Jane was feeling better. maybe Lil Jane could’ve asked him what actually happened and whether everything was true, because that would’ve given us SO much more closure. instead I was just left there like 🧍🏻‍♀️ okay… so are we just never gonna talk about that again??

OMG THE OSTs??? HELLO??? YOU’RE A RED FLAG BUT I’M COLOURBLIND IS ACTUALLY SO AMAZING!!! the OSTs were all so good and fit the drama really well.

and the directing was also SO GOOD. like the scenes, the angles, the way everything was filmed, the director actually did such a good job because there were so many moments where I was just looking at the screen like WOW 💥overall I really really enjoyed this drama. it definitely had some things that I wish were explained more, which is why I can’t give it a 10/10, but the chemistry, acting, OSTs and directing were genuinely SO GOOD. definitely worth watching imo!!
