Something so dear to your heart thats worth destroying yourself for
I've watched Zhou Yiran in Reborn for the very first time. He really impressed me in that one... But never did I ever thought i would experience such a heartbreakingly beautiful performance by him the very same year I got introduced to him.Wang Yinglu... what a performance. Her eyes held so much emotions, you could visibly feel her pain, her rage, her frustration, desperation and devotion.
These two young actors gave their heart and soul to give life to Tang Yixun and Ye Haitang. There was not a single intimate scene, let alone any kissing or hugging. But love between them was clearly visible. The way every pain they endured for each other, everytime they shielded each other, their fight to protect each other, little happiness they found for each other..... They put so many other love stories in shame. The innocence, purity between two teenagers who just had each other in this vast world and had to fight every storm cause they had no other choice.... It was extremely painful to watch, yet heartbreakingly beautiful.
The story had some flaws, yes. Time travel dramas are tricky, its hard to give a smooth ending. This one also had some plotholes ngl. But you know the drama is actually really amazing when you're ready to forget every minor flaw, mistake even though it would bother you a lot if it was some other drama. This drama made everyone forget everything. It was such a breath of fresh air after a long time.
I really wish these two gets the recognition for the best work of their career till date. This drama deserves everything. Acting, storytelling, direction,music.... There's nothing that wouldn’t touch you. You will remember it as something very close to your heart.

Premise Is Better Than The Result
This drama started out great, both in the spacing and acting wise. However, it somewhat lost me in the middle. Not only story wise, but logically. The final nail in the coffin was the ending. It felt too loose, both in terms of character resolution and plot. I needed to know at least how the mailbox even became a time machine. That's the reason why I gave this drama the rating I did. Otherwise, it would've been higher. We didn't even know if characters in 2025 time line ever crossed over.Overall, it’s a nice step forward for cdramas, where characters don’t have to be portrayed as naive or childish to be likable. I’d recommend this drama to fellow fantasy enthusiasts.

“Twelve Letters: A Bittersweet Journey
Watching Twelve Letters was an emotional journey — one that left me conflicted even after the credits rolled. On the surface, it seems like a hopeful story: the children's choices truly managed to change their parents’ future. But the question that kept echoing in my mind was — at what cost? From the very beginning, I found myself drawn more to Yu Nian and Shen Cheng than even the main leads. Their relationship felt natural, tender, and deeply moving. To me, they suited each other so well, both in the way their story unfolded on-screen and even in their subtle off-screen chemistry. They weren’t just a side couple; they carried a weight that balanced the whole narrative.
That’s why their ending hit me harder than anything else. Even though Tang Yixun and Ye Haitang were given a happy ending, I couldn’t celebrate it fully. The joy of their reunion was overshadowed by the quiet tragedy of Yu Nian and Shen Cheng — especially Shen Cheng’s disappearance, and Yu Nian being left as the only one to remember him. It wasn’t just episode 8 that broke me; the finale cut even deeper.
Yes, the show dared to tell us that not every love story survives the rewriting of time. But as a viewer, it feels cruel. Why build such a beautiful, believable connection only to take it away? I can’t help but feel a lingering sadness, a sense that the story gave us something precious and then snatched it away.
For me, Yu Nian and Shen Cheng will remain the heart of Twelve Letters. Their love story may not have been the one that time allowed to flourish, but it’s the one that I’ll carry with me — bittersweet, unforgettable, and far more haunting than the “happy” ending we were given.

WHY COULDN'T THEY FOLLOW ENDGAME TIME TRAVEL RULES
We can all agree that this drama was incredible, but I've seen that a lot of the qualms are with the ending. On one hand, I wished we could have just had two different timelines (like in Avengers Endgame) where if you change the past, a new timeline is created, but the original timeline stays the same. Then, Shen Cheng and Yu Nian could have continued to live their lives, while AXun and and ATang could've had their happy ending in a new timeline. But alas, I am not the writer of this drama, and after thinking about the ending a bit more, it is fitting. The drama is about finding and protecting your family, even when the odds are stacked against you. Then it makes sense that just as AXun time and time again sacrifices himself for ATang's happiness, Sheng Cheng and Yu Nian would sacrifice themselves for AXun and ATang's happiness. Though this bittersweet ending is not what I wanted for the characters I rooted for, it stays true to the drama's theme and the character's motivations. This could've been conveyed if the build-up to the ending was more developed, which is why the ending feels rushed right now.
I haven't seen anyone point out one of the more unique strengths of the drama: the world-building. Usually dramas center on the two main characters and the supporting characters are more like devices to support the main plot, but this drama gave the supporting characters their own stories, which we caught glimpses of here and there. As a result, we were able to really lose ourselves in this world. Let me name an example: in episode 10, the bookstore owner (i forget his name, the one with the glasses) confronts ABao's hooligans and his shop is destroyed. Now by episode 10, we've seen the bookstore owner a few times in passing, usually only when he was important to the plot (i.e. when we're learning about the bookstore holding a promotion to write letters to your future self, which starts the entire letter thing). But this is the first time when we see the world through his eyes. When he tells ATang that "this town is the problem", I realized that all the other people in this town aren't lifeless beings who just stare as AXun and friends suffer. They are likely going through the same thing and don't have the courage or the luxury to help others. While this characterization of the town does serve the main characters, as it makes AXun and ATang's kindness stand out and also heightens their desperation for escape, it also just makes Meiwan seem like a real place. I think great writing comes down to making fake characters in unrealistic situations seem like real people in real situations, and I'm really glad this drama doesn't neglect to do that.
I spent days crying over these characters, rewatching the drama until I was able to organize my thoughts. As I write this review, I think I am able to lay it to rest. It comforts me to know that AXun and ATang got their happy ending and that Sheng Cheng and Yu Nian got what they wanted and successfully protected their family. I hope that like these characters, we all find a home in the people we love, giving us a reason to fight and protect in this otherwise unforgiving world.

Time Travel Through Letters
I just finished this drama...My Little Summary:
A story of a couple stuck in a twisted fate, leading them unable to be together. Thirty-five years later, their children started looking for them as they went missing on the same day. The only clues they received was a letter and a mail box. Where did the letter come from? Will they ever find their parents? Does their parents know each other?
Spoilers + What I think:
The drama goes back and forth from the present to the past. It starts off in the present where you will met Nian and her father who is ill with dementia. They were caught in an argument since her dad didn't want to leave his home. The next day he goes missing. She was only able to find a couple of clues which was the mail box that her father always guard with his life and was waiting for a letter. She stared at the mail box until a cat arrived and a letter appeared. In shock, she used this letter as a clue to find her dad. She goes find a woman, Tang and bumped into Tang's son. Her son came back to take her with him, but she was missing. So they had to work together to find their parents.
In 1991, Tang (FL) is dealing with some thuds because her father borrowed money to help his family but instead he was gambling it away. In the group of thuds, she meets Xun (ML) who becomes her classmate the next day. She receives a love letter written from Xun which caused troubled at her school as some kid dugged in her backpack for her notes. This lead a untold truth of her father's behavior entering the screen and a turning point in Tang's and Xun's relationship.
Shen Cheng and Yu Nian:
I honesty hated Shen Cheng. The way he assumed that Nian's father kidnapped his mom and was not even listening to her words! He irritated me soo much in the drama that I wonder why Nian tried to convinced him when he doesn't believe her. If I was in her shoes I would had left him at that cause she already told him that letter was the only reason why she was there in the first place. And omg.... he was so annoying when she took him to her father's place and didn't believe any words again! I understand that he is right that she could have fabricated everything, but from her tone and body language got me so stressed out for her. Also, he still didn't believe her after receiving a letter in the mail box that no one touched! And his constant reminder that she is still a stranger to him is crazy!! Like boy it's been 4 to 5 ep since yall knew each other. But every time he was on the screen, I keep wondering what is he thinking now. Until the end...he sacrificed his existent so his mom can be with the one that she loved.... It made me cried so hard. Yu Nian had it worst. She was in between everything even thought she wasn't blood related to her adopted father, she had to find out about his past and when she finally got to see him. He passed singing Tang's song.... She also remembered everything...
Tang and Xun:
These two were fated to be apart from the start Her horrible fate of an abusive father and a dream of getting out of Meixan. His fate of being a thud was the only thing that held him back from being with her. However, they constantly fought with fate and kept on trying to prove they were meant to be together. While Tang was being abused by her father, I realized how cruel it must be back then. The part where Tang said, "Father is disciplining his daughter." made me so upset that there was no adult for them to talk to. They had to rely on each other only since no one will listen and help them. They honestly had a very sad story.
Storyline + Overall:
How they executed the drama from the beginning was pretty interesting and constant which some can find boring. But I felt that they threw in an unexpected episode to gain the audiences' attention which definitely worked for me cause it was the episode that I cried the most on. Overall, this drama gave me so much emotional turns left to right and the songs are so good. I am always listening to it. This drama deserve an award for how everything was pretty planned out since for me some chinese drama don't know what they want at the end. This ending was a happy bittersweet ending for some characters. Oh, one thing cdrama needs to stop doing is NOT SHOWING US THE CHARACTERS HAVING THEIR HAPPY ENDING. I was pretty upset that I wasn't able to see them happily together.

Pain, Family, etc
I watched this drama in just one day; it kept me watching and even made me cry from the very beginning. At first, I thought one episode being around an hour long would feel too much, but somehow I finished them all without even realizing the time. What I liked is that every character had their own pain, there wasn’t really a “happy ending” for anyone, which made the story emotional and heavy. However, one thing that annoyed me was how the adults kept blaming the kids instead of taking responsibility themselves. Even when the kids didn’t do anything wrong, the adults always claimed it was “for their best,” which felt unfair.
The constant jumps between past and future also made me a little dizzy at times, since the transitions weren’t always clear. There are still some parts I don’t fully understand, and the ending wasn’t what I expected at all.
Overall, it’s a good drama, emotional, heavy, and worth watching if you like stories that focus on pain, family, and magic happening, but be ready for a complicated timeline and an ending that leaves you unsatisfied.

This drama is, quite simply, a rare gem.
Starting a drama review is always a challenge, and this one is no exception. It is a production that, despite not having reached a wide audience, leaves a deep impression on everyone who has watched it.Reading through fellow reviewers’ impressions, I felt much of what I wanted to express had already been voiced. Still, this drama touched me in such a personal way that I must share at least a glimpse of how profoundly it resonated with me.
At its core, this is a drama of mystery and suspense, fractured blood ties, found families, and an unforgettable story of love, sacrifice, and resilience.
The narrative unfolds across four distinct timelines, cleverly interwoven:
Timeline 1 (Mailbox No. 1): Though never shown directly, it represents the permanent home of two enigmatic figures—a scrap collector and a yellow cat. The latter becomes a whimsical yet pivotal messenger, carrying letters across timelines through different mailboxes. (A quirky detail: the director revealed that six different cats were used for this role—seamlessly so, I never noticed the switch.)
Timeline 2 (Mailbox No. 2): Set in 1991, where we meet our young protagonists.
Timeline 3 (Mailbox No. 3): Set in 2026, where the next generation seeks to alter the fate of the past.
Timeline 4 (Mailbox No. 4): Revealed only at the end—a twist best left for viewers to discover.
In 1991, Ye Hai Tang (played by the versatile Wang Yinglu) lives under the shadow of relentless abuse by her father, Yi Yibo. Her home is broken, her father mentally unstable and consumed by gambling, stripping her of dignity and survival alike. The scenes of physical and emotional torment are painfully raw, often demanding a pause just to breathe. Her only solace lies in her passion for learning and her dream of university, a way out of her suffocating existence in Meiwan.
It is at school that she encounters Tang Yi Xun, an unlikely savior. A troubled orphan raised in an institution, Yi Xun has carved a harsh life alongside two friends, Li Cha Dong and Zhang Hao (“Rat”), surviving through illegal debt collection. Violence, betrayal, and despair haunt him, yet with the support of a caring teacher, he longs to return to his studies. When fate brings him to Hai Tang through one of her father’s debts, an improbable yet tender connection begins to grow.
Their bond is one of the most beautiful aspects of the drama: two broken souls finding comfort in one another, becoming each other’s chosen family. Yet fate proves merciless, and their fragile happiness is constantly tested.
Fast forward to 2026, and Hai Tang has mysteriously disappeared. Her son, Shen Cheng ( Ren You Lun ), returns from England in a desperate search for her. Along the way, he meets Yu Nian ( Zheng He Hui Zi ), who is also searching for her missing father, Yu Zhi Hong—a man in his fifties with Alzheimer’s. Yu Zhi Hong’s vanishing seems intertwined with Hai Tang’s, and in his final days he was seen lingering near a mailbox in a shipyard, waiting to send a letter under the quiet watch of a sympathetic security guard.
What unfolds is a puzzle that viewers themselves must piece together, as the timelines converge and unravel with both suspense and poignancy. To say more would diminish the impact; the surprises, mysteries, and emotional weight deserve to be experienced firsthand.
This drama is, quite simply, a rare gem: intense, immersive, and meticulous in every detail. The direction is masterful, the performances nuanced and compelling, the writing sharp and layered, and the cinematography stunningly evocative.
It is a story that lingers long after the final scene. For those willing to immerse themselves in its intricacies, it is absolutely worth the journey.
Rating: 10/10.
P.S: To better understand the division of the four timelines, I am following the perfect reasoning of one of my fellow reviewers on kisskh. I won’t mention their name out of respect for their review, but I am truly grateful for their explanation. It helped me a lot in understanding the whole plot. Thank you!

What a great drama!
I loved it for its rawness and for not being afraid to show a realistic and harsh plot. The performances of the entire cast were absolutely impeccable. The way they handled the cards and time throughout the story was brilliant.I found the ending so sad, but at the same time so fitting. That's why, although I don't give it full marks, it's only because the outcome is so bitter for the children... However, if you think about it, for the protagonists, who suffered their entire lives, it was definitely a happy and liberating ending. Highly recommended!
