Story is super touching with many small plots here and there to bring a deep meaning to the show, cried alot . Talked about really sad and triggering things but very realistic. Same time also very inspiring and worth watching. Its centres around a football team who all have their own struggles and how each of them are supportive and healing for each other. There is also light romance but more for cute touch.Their expressions really match their characters
But certain hug scenes can be better and certain scenes do feel extra like why ?? But okay.
Overall still very worthwhile to watch

Road to Success: Great at Football, Slightly Lost on the Road
At its heart, Road to Success is a story about rising when everyone around you is basically saying, “Yeah… probably not.” And honestly, that part works. It’s a feel-good sports drama about friendship, loyalty, resilience, hard work, and believing in yourself even when success seems like a very distant goal.As a sports drama/slice-of-life, I really enjoyed it. In fact, I think the drama would have been stronger if it had simply stayed there.
Because then came the thriller/suspense plot.
And I was like… Why are we doing this? 😂
The suspense elements felt unnecessary and, at times, completely out of sync with the overall tone of the drama. The female lead’s trauma, in particular, could have been written in a much more natural way. The male lead’s backstory was more believable, but even that lacked a bit of cohesiveness.
There were also quite a few plot elements that I felt could have been removed. Instead of adding more mystery and drama, I would have preferred the writers to focus on the players themselves—their struggles, their failures, their personal battles, and how they managed to overcome them. Their individual backstories had the potential to be much more compelling than some of the things the drama chose to emphasize.
And then there are the unnecessary characters.
Take Ju Li, the female lead’s childhood friend. I spent a good portion of the drama asking myself, “Okay… but why is she here?” 😂 I genuinely did not understand what her character contributed to the overall story. Eventually, whenever she appeared, my finger automatically went to the fast-forward button. Sorry, Ju Li.
Now, the actors.
Esther Yu plays Lin Wanxing, a supposedly intelligent and empathetic teacher whose outlook on life has been affected by trauma. And honestly… what can I say about Esther Yu’s acting that I haven’t already seen in her other dramas? Her performance is very much Esther Yu being Esther Yu. If you already like her style, you’ll probably enjoy her here. If you were hoping for something dramatically different… well, manage your expectations. 😂
As for Chen Jing Ke, who plays Wang Fa, this was actually my introduction to him. I can’t say his acting completely won me over. I felt that he could have brought more nuance and emotional depth to the character. That said, his overall performance was still good.
And, well… the man is very handsome.
His face, chest, and abs occasionally provided the emotional depth the script was missing. 😂😂😂 You know what I mean.
But honestly, the real stars for me were the boys on the team.
I loved their loyalty to one another, their determination, their work ethic, and—most importantly—their genuine love for football. Their friendship and camaraderie were easily some of the most enjoyable parts of the drama.
Bottom line: Road to Success is a nice watch, especially if you enjoy sports dramas and stories about friendship, perseverance, and chasing your dreams. I just wish the writers had trusted the strength of that story instead of adding unnecessary suspense, trauma, and characters that distracted from it.
Sometimes, you don’t need a complicated plot twist.
Just give me the boys, the football, the friendship, the struggles, and Chen Jing Ke’s abs. That’s enough. 😂
Rating: A nice, enjoyable watch—with a few unnecessary detours on the road to success.

Good enough
Unlike some people, I actually love EY and look forward to her dramas. I also love CJK so I was excited with their pairing.The positives: I love the storyline of the kids. The writer did a good job of showing how each one navigated their problems without sacrificing who they were. I also love how the adults didn't give up until the end and showed the kids they will always have someone on their side no matter what.
The negative: Just one really. I thought EY and CJK had good (not great) chemistry pre-relationship but that died once they got together. The kissing scenes were awkward I thought and some of the hugs looked weird.
Overall, I would still recommend this drama but I wouldn't be rewatching.

Completely Caught Me by Surprise
I went into Road to Success (2026) expecting a decent watch... but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did.What really won me over wasn't the romance—it was the journey of the team. Watching each member grow, overcome setbacks, and slowly become stronger together was incredibly satisfying. The character development was easily the highlight of the drama, and by the end, I found myself genuinely attached to everyone.
The male and female leads also did a great job with their roles. They were both convincing and carried the emotional weight of the story well. That said, if I'm being honest, their chemistry wasn't the strongest I've seen in a C-drama. It wasn't bad by any means, but compared to other dramas, I never really got those heart-fluttering moments between them.
Thankfully, the story didn't rely solely on romance to keep me invested. The friendships, teamwork, personal growth, and the characters' determination were more than enough to make me keep hitting "Next Episode."
If you enjoy dramas where the real payoff comes from watching people grow together rather than just watching a love story unfold, Road to Success (2026) is definitely worth checking out. It turned out to be one of those unexpected gems that I ended up enjoying far more than I ever thought I would.

Cant wait for the next episode
Absolutely wonderful chemistry between ML and FL, especially when the ML looks at the FL, full of admiration. The boys (students) are fun to watch and their own stories or lives get me hooked up.As for the story, I don't get bored. Each episode is eventful. There are romantic scenes between the main actors each episode and they always made me giggle.
Definitely worth recommending.

Yu Shuxin delivers one of her most mature performances as Lin Wanxing, bringing warmth and quiet resilience to a woman rebuilding her life after a devastating scandal. Chen Jingke complements her well as the guarded coach Wang Fa, and their slow-burn romance develops naturally through trust and shared purpose.
While the first few episodes move at a leisurely pace, the emotional payoff is well worth the wait. With strong performances, engaging character growth, and an inspiring message about perseverance and hope.

Road To Success : A Beautiful Healing Drama That Made Me Laugh and Cry
Finally finished all 32 episodes of Road to Success! Wow, where do I even begin? I hadn’t read the book and went in with no real expectations, but it turned out to be absolutely enjoyable. I laughed and cried so much — this drama stirred up so many emotions and left me deeply moved.Nowadays we’re so used to fast-paced dramas, short reels, and TikTok, but this one really forces you to slow down and reflect. So many moments hit hard: the “I cheated” scene, Lin Wanxing’s trauma, Grandfather’s message, the court case, each of the boys’ situations, and everything in between. They all had me crying ugly tears.
There are quite a few football scenes, so if you’re not into sports or football, you might find them a bit draggy. I personally didn’t mind them at all.
The relationship between the leads feels so mature and loving. I would’ve liked a few more tender moments between them, but I understand this drama isn’t focused on romance or just one couple. The dynamics between the boys and the whole group are wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed every episode — the entire cast’s chemistry is fantastic.
I really liked the acting from everyone, but Esther Yu deserves a special shoutout. I’ve seen many of her dramas, yet this one takes her acting to a whole new level — it’s incredibly engaging to watch. Her performance moved me to tears countless times, especially her heartfelt narration in the emails scene and the letter to the boys on graduation day. The OST and cinematography are also excellent. As someone who has been around football for many years, I found the way they shot those scenes very realistic.
A beautiful healing drama perfect for fans of coming-of-age stories, found family, and heartfelt sports dramas with real emotional depth. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favour and give Road to Success a try. I promise there’s at least one moment that will deeply resonate with your own life experiences.

A Healing Story Wrapped in Sports
❤️ Romance Isn’t the Focus—Healing IsFirst off, if you’re looking for a drama packed with romance, this isn’t the one. The romance here is a slow, step‑by‑step process where the leads rely on each other emotionally long before they start falling for each other. They share plenty of screen time, but the heart of the story is healing—both individually and through the sports team.
Both the male and female lead carry heavy emotional wounds, and their stories connect in meaningful ways. At the same time, you’ve got a group of young soccer/football players dreaming of winning a championship but struggling with back‑to‑back losses and the departure of their coach. Three of the boys even get their own side stories, each tied to personal hurt and complicated relationships with their parents.
Speaking of parents… there are a LOT of bad ones in this drama. They don’t appear often, but when they do, prepare to feel annoyed, frustrated, or straight‑up angry.
⚽ Sports Done Right—Not Just Running on the Field
The sports aspect isn’t just nonstop gameplay, which I appreciated. Sports are more than what happens on the field, and the drama actually shows that. You get tactics, training sessions, breakdowns of strengths and weaknesses, replay analysis, and—most importantly—team bonding.
It feels like a real sports environment rather than just a highlight reel.
🧩 Good Story, But Missing Some Important Wrap‑Ups
Overall, the story was handled pretty well, but a few plot points definitely needed better closure. The biggest issue for me was the parents. None of the bad parents ever truly realized their mistakes or offered heartfelt apologies. Wan Xing’s parents especially bothered me—no reflection, no regret, nothing. The same goes for Fu Xin Shu’s mom and Weng Cheng Ye’s dad.
Seeing even a small moment of change or remorse would’ve made the emotional arcs feel more complete for Wan Xing, Fu Xin Shu, and Weng Cheng Ye.
⚖️ Wan Xing’s Justice Felt Weak
Wan Xing’s justice also didn’t feel justified. The villain impersonated her, ruined her life, and drove two innocent people to end theirs. A forced written and recorded apology—something C‑dramas love—is always weird to me because it feels empty.
Sure, the news anchors mention an investigation, but that’s basically it. It didn’t feel like a punishment that matched the damage done.
🎬 Final Thoughts
Despite those issues, the story was still pretty good overall. The cast was great, the acting was strong, and the music was fine (just not something I’d listen to often). I probably wouldn’t rewatch the whole drama now that I know everything that happens, but I’d definitely revisit some of my favorite episodes.

More Than Just a Sports Drama
I went into Road to Success expecting a fairly standard sports drama, but it ended up being so much more than football.The biggest strength of this drama is its characters. Every member of the team feels important, and watching them grow from a group of individuals into a family was easily my favourite part. Their victories felt earned because you experienced every setback, disagreement and emotional hurdle alongside them.
The romance is a genuine slow burn. WF and LWX have fantastic chemistry, and I loved that their relationship developed through trust, support and understanding rather than unnecessary misunderstandings. It complemented the main story without ever taking it over.
What really surprised me was how emotional this drama became. There were episodes that had me smiling because of the team bonding, others that had me reaching for the tissues, and plenty that left me desperate to watch the next episode. The drama balances football, friendship, romance and personal struggles really well.
I also appreciated that even characters who frustrated me early on were given opportunities to grow. Themes of found family, forgiveness, perseverance and believing in one another run throughout the entire series.
The only reason this isn’t a perfect 10 is the ending. It wrapped everything up nicely, but I would have loved a little more time with the characters after everything they had been through. It felt just a touch rushed.
If you enjoy sports dramas, found family, slow-burn romance and character-driven stories, I’d definitely recommend giving Road to Success a watch. I came for the football, but I stayed for the people. ⚽❤️

Fast-Forwarded to the Finale: Why Road to Success Couldn't Keep My Interest
I ended up dropping Road to Success around Episode 26 and jumped straight to the finale just to see how it concluded. While the initial setup: a sports-meets-healing story centered on a high school football team had promise, the execution quickly lost momentum and became a chore to watch.Key Takeaways:
Zero Lead Chemistry: The romance felt forced and awkward; I couldn't ship them at all.
Bland Character (Wang Fa): As the male lead, Wang Fa was just too dry and uninspired to root for or keep things interesting.
Forgettable Side Characters: The kids' backstories were generic, making it impossible to care about the team.
Esther Yu: She just needs a good director to tone down the ridiculous acting. When that happens, she’s actually really enjoyable to watch and easily the best part of the show.
Ultimately, Road to Success suffers from a pacing drag and a formulaic plot that fails to deliver on both the sports motivation and the romance. It reflects a broader trend of recent C-dramas relying on strong baseline premises but failing to maintain engaging character dynamics or original writing over a full episode run.

Just didn't care for any of the stories
This will be one of my short reviews. I realize that it's a waste of time to try to give all the reasons I didn't like something, so I prefer to focus on what I like and write long reviews for the dramas I loved. So from now on anything that gets less than a 7 gets a short review.I love The FL. She's great in so many dramas and I liked her as well. I just didn't care about the way the director saw her. Like he took out her personality and replaced her with a robot.
The ML was a mediocre actor at best and didn't get his character at all. No idea if he has better dramas and I don't care to look them up.
Too many stories and after a while you stop caring.
Not real passion about football has been shown and as someone who watched football since I was 10, I don't get it. If you have a football based script, show some passion at least.
Lack of chemistry. I think eve stones would have more chemistry and I blame the ML and the director.
Verdict: A failure for so many reasons and it's a shame since the plot and the FL would have me excited.
