Feel good drama
Not going to lie, the drama was enjoyable to watch for me particularly due to the football team, their interactions, goofiness and youthful energy. The ML and FL were alright, both were great looking and they had good chemistry. This was the first show I watched Chen JinKe and he looked steady and handsome in this show and a perfect opposite to Esther Yu who was bubbly and cute. I remember when it was aired, I looked forward to watch the new episodes for the football players' mini arcs within the show. Each player was special to me and they were also the stars of the show.Was this review helpful to you?
Some of the best psychological romantic sports drama I've ever seen.
This drama has exceeded my expectations, from visuals, to storyline, to plot twists, to every single scene, I loved the way the team developed, the way the mains got introduced, the way he fell first she fell harder, EVERY.SINGLE.SCENE. First of I want to talk about the female lead, her story was very heartbreaking (and so was the male lead but we'll get to that later), basically distrust can really hurt someone and so can rumors, they can ruin someone's life. About the male lead... poor him, traumatized of taking over a football team, and afraid of being responsible and failing for a second time, not knowing that it wasn't really his fault, it was other people's faultS, yes, many people were involved in this thing he was investigating (I'm trying not to reveal ANY spoilers cuz its best to watch it like this). Honestly, I didn't want to watch it, but my mom told me she was searching for a drama with a cute female lead and I immediately thought of Esther Yu, in every single drama even if she was the villain she was very cute (I think), and she really didn't fail. In the end, some things remain unsolved which really made me crash out just a bit, like what happened to the members of the team in detail? What about the male lead's sister's romantic life? I was so absorbed into this drama that I thought that there would be a second couple, dang that hit hard, what about the female lead's job? I hope there will be a special or a season two cuz I'm watching it. To be honest, I almost dropped it because I thought the female lead was really the person that the male lead was searching for, but thank goodness those clips convinced me, I didn't see any spoilers about her or the person, I don't even watch sad ending and I thought to myself, even if it turns out to be a bad ending I will still watch it no matter what, and look what happened. Very recommended down there will be if it is a happy ending or a sad one if you don't want to see don't see it cause it does count as a spoiler?It is a happy ending; the main couple end up together everything is resolved.

It’s anchored by a classic underdog story about a high school boys’ soccer team that beats all the odds in pursuit of a championship win. The boys are funny and endearing, and many of them are also navigating their own struggles and heartbreaks.
The leads, Chen Jing Ke and Esther Yu, play the team’s coach and team manager. I wouldn’t say it’s a stand-out role for either of them, but both actors give heartfelt performances, and the progression of their characters’ relationship — from their battle of wits at the beginning to their professional partnership, mutual support, and growing feelings for each other — feels natural even though the romance isn’t the primary focus of the story.
It’s also nice to see Esther Yu in a role that’s a bit more mature and serious than the cute, bubbly types she often plays.
As the characters help each other face emotions like guilt, regret, and self-doubt instead of bottling them up, the series highlights the value of having community — family, friends, teachers/mentors — as a support during difficult times.
It’s a mostly feel-good series that I’d rate at an 8.5 — worth watching once for the heartwarming story and capable cast, but not a rewatch.

Those boys stole my whole heart
At its core, this is a workplace drama. Except they've traded the office for the field, and the gossipy coworkers for the sweetest group of boys you can imagine.It's not an understatement to say that the heart of this drama is really with the football team. Someone said we're watching the future generation of leading men, and I have to agree. They made me laugh and cry (and I never cry!) and root for them all the way through. Yu Shuxin and Chen Jiangke set the tone as the drama's leaders, but the youngsters bring the story to life and kept me sat for 32 episodes.
Personally, I felt that the romance was a bit shoehorned. If the true story was the team, then we really didn't need the teachers to fall in love. I understand it was meant to be a healing drama where two traumatized people tend to each other's wounds, but the problem is that their trauma was the least interesting part of the story. Pulling out the 'psychopath' trope for both of their issues felt like really bad writing. It's such a lazy method of creating conflict, especially in 2026. The story would have been better if both leads' trauma backstories were eliminated, and the focus just remained on coaching a losing team to victory.

Touching. Meaningful. Realistic. Worth watching and be inspired
Story is super touching with many small plots here and there to bring a deep meaning to the show, cried alot . Talked about really sad and triggering things but very realistic. Same time also very inspiring and worth watching. Its centres around a football team who all have their own struggles and how each of them are supportive and healing for each other. There is also light romance but more for cute touch.Their expressions really match their characters
But certain hug scenes can be better and certain scenes do feel extra like why ?? But okay.
Overall still very worthwhile to watch

Road to Success: Great at Football, Slightly Lost on the Road
At its heart, Road to Success is a story about rising when everyone around you is basically saying, “Yeah… probably not.” And honestly, that part works. It’s a feel-good sports drama about friendship, loyalty, resilience, hard work, and believing in yourself even when success seems like a very distant goal.As a sports drama/slice-of-life, I really enjoyed it. In fact, I think the drama would have been stronger if it had simply stayed there.
Because then came the thriller/suspense plot.
And I was like… Why are we doing this? 😂
The suspense elements felt unnecessary and, at times, completely out of sync with the overall tone of the drama. The female lead’s trauma, in particular, could have been written in a much more natural way. The male lead’s backstory was more believable, but even that lacked a bit of cohesiveness.
There were also quite a few plot elements that I felt could have been removed. Instead of adding more mystery and drama, I would have preferred the writers to focus on the players themselves—their struggles, their failures, their personal battles, and how they managed to overcome them. Their individual backstories had the potential to be much more compelling than some of the things the drama chose to emphasize.
And then there are the unnecessary characters.
Take Ju Li, the female lead’s childhood friend. I spent a good portion of the drama asking myself, “Okay… but why is she here?” 😂 I genuinely did not understand what her character contributed to the overall story. Eventually, whenever she appeared, my finger automatically went to the fast-forward button. Sorry, Ju Li.
Now, the actors.
Esther Yu plays Lin Wanxing, a supposedly intelligent and empathetic teacher whose outlook on life has been affected by trauma. And honestly… what can I say about Esther Yu’s acting that I haven’t already seen in her other dramas? Her performance is very much Esther Yu being Esther Yu. If you already like her style, you’ll probably enjoy her here. If you were hoping for something dramatically different… well, manage your expectations. 😂
As for Chen Jing Ke, who plays Wang Fa, this was actually my introduction to him. I can’t say his acting completely won me over. I felt that he could have brought more nuance and emotional depth to the character. That said, his overall performance was still good.
And, well… the man is very handsome.
His face, chest, and abs occasionally provided the emotional depth the script was missing. 😂😂😂 You know what I mean.
But honestly, the real stars for me were the boys on the team.
I loved their loyalty to one another, their determination, their work ethic, and—most importantly—their genuine love for football. Their friendship and camaraderie were easily some of the most enjoyable parts of the drama.
Bottom line: Road to Success is a nice watch, especially if you enjoy sports dramas and stories about friendship, perseverance, and chasing your dreams. I just wish the writers had trusted the strength of that story instead of adding unnecessary suspense, trauma, and characters that distracted from it.
Sometimes, you don’t need a complicated plot twist.
Just give me the boys, the football, the friendship, the struggles, and Chen Jing Ke’s abs. That’s enough. 😂
Rating: A nice, enjoyable watch—with a few unnecessary detours on the road to success.

Good enough
Unlike some people, I actually love EY and look forward to her dramas. I also love CJK so I was excited with their pairing.The positives: I love the storyline of the kids. The writer did a good job of showing how each one navigated their problems without sacrificing who they were. I also love how the adults didn't give up until the end and showed the kids they will always have someone on their side no matter what.
The negative: Just one really. I thought EY and CJK had good (not great) chemistry pre-relationship but that died once they got together. The kissing scenes were awkward I thought and some of the hugs looked weird.
Overall, I would still recommend this drama but I wouldn't be rewatching.

Completely Caught Me by Surprise
I went into Road to Success (2026) expecting a decent watch... but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did.What really won me over wasn't the romance—it was the journey of the team. Watching each member grow, overcome setbacks, and slowly become stronger together was incredibly satisfying. The character development was easily the highlight of the drama, and by the end, I found myself genuinely attached to everyone.
The male and female leads also did a great job with their roles. They were both convincing and carried the emotional weight of the story well. That said, if I'm being honest, their chemistry wasn't the strongest I've seen in a C-drama. It wasn't bad by any means, but compared to other dramas, I never really got those heart-fluttering moments between them.
Thankfully, the story didn't rely solely on romance to keep me invested. The friendships, teamwork, personal growth, and the characters' determination were more than enough to make me keep hitting "Next Episode."
If you enjoy dramas where the real payoff comes from watching people grow together rather than just watching a love story unfold, Road to Success (2026) is definitely worth checking out. It turned out to be one of those unexpected gems that I ended up enjoying far more than I ever thought I would.

A comforting watch about teamwork and the courage to never give up.
Road to Success is a heartwarming surprise. At first glance, it looks like a typical sports drama about a high school football team, but it is actually a beautiful story about healing and second chances. I am giving it a solid 8.5 out of 10 because it delivers a comforting and deeply emotional experience.The main characters, a teacher and a football coach, are both dealing with their own past struggles. They slowly build a bond that feels natural, respectful, and mature. The lead actors do a wonderful job bringing real emotion to their roles without overacting. The eleven students on the football team also shine brightly. Their friendship and teamwork make you want to cheer for them every step of the way, creating a wonderful "found family" dynamic.
What makes this show special is that the romance and the football matches are just parts of a bigger picture. The story focuses heavily on mental health, overcoming personal trauma, and the courage it takes to stand back up after life knocks you down. There are a few minor plot holes and some side stories that feel a bit unnecessary, but the strong message of teamwork and believing in yourself easily makes up for those small flaws.
If you want a comforting drama that balances lighthearted comedy with deep emotional moments, this is a great choice. It is a slow-burn journey that leaves you feeling hopeful and warm long after the final episode.

Cant wait for the next episode
Absolutely wonderful chemistry between ML and FL, especially when the ML looks at the FL, full of admiration. The boys (students) are fun to watch and their own stories or lives get me hooked up.As for the story, I don't get bored. Each episode is eventful. There are romantic scenes between the main actors each episode and they always made me giggle.
Definitely worth recommending.

Yu Shuxin delivers one of her most mature performances as Lin Wanxing, bringing warmth and quiet resilience to a woman rebuilding her life after a devastating scandal. Chen Jingke complements her well as the guarded coach Wang Fa, and their slow-burn romance develops naturally through trust and shared purpose.
While the first few episodes move at a leisurely pace, the emotional payoff is well worth the wait. With strong performances, engaging character growth, and an inspiring message about perseverance and hope.

Road To Success : A Beautiful Healing Drama That Made Me Laugh and Cry
Finally finished all 32 episodes of Road to Success! Wow, where do I even begin? I hadn’t read the book and went in with no real expectations, but it turned out to be absolutely enjoyable. I laughed and cried so much — this drama stirred up so many emotions and left me deeply moved.Nowadays we’re so used to fast-paced dramas, short reels, and TikTok, but this one really forces you to slow down and reflect. So many moments hit hard: the “I cheated” scene, Lin Wanxing’s trauma, Grandfather’s message, the court case, each of the boys’ situations, and everything in between. They all had me crying ugly tears.
There are quite a few football scenes, so if you’re not into sports or football, you might find them a bit draggy. I personally didn’t mind them at all.
The relationship between the leads feels so mature and loving. I would’ve liked a few more tender moments between them, but I understand this drama isn’t focused on romance or just one couple. The dynamics between the boys and the whole group are wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed every episode — the entire cast’s chemistry is fantastic.
I really liked the acting from everyone, but Esther Yu deserves a special shoutout. I’ve seen many of her dramas, yet this one takes her acting to a whole new level — it’s incredibly engaging to watch. Her performance moved me to tears countless times, especially her heartfelt narration in the emails scene and the letter to the boys on graduation day. The OST and cinematography are also excellent. As someone who has been around football for many years, I found the way they shot those scenes very realistic.
A beautiful healing drama perfect for fans of coming-of-age stories, found family, and heartfelt sports dramas with real emotional depth. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favour and give Road to Success a try. I promise there’s at least one moment that will deeply resonate with your own life experiences.
