OK for a Republican Era drama, but don't expect miracles, just great kiss scenes & a decent story.

I tend to find RE c-dramas usually have incredibly boring plots, but this screenplay was better than average because they kept the story simple, and didn't write main characters that go over the top and say or do implausible things that make it hard to relate to them. I wouldn't say it's the most engaging story ever, but I followed along without wanting to skip around, and for my standards that's def above average.

ML is the best part about this drama, as is usual for him. Zi Xian is a powerful onscreen force, capable of believable emotions and deep piercing stares or soft affectionate gazes, who can breathe life into his characters and convince you they're real, and who can kiss probably better than anyone in c-dramaland... and as such it's a challenge for actors and directors to keep up with him.

The 2ML actor really stood out, being able to match ZX's onscreen charisma. This was something of a breakout performance for him, and I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more of him in the future, not just because he has a gorgeous babyface, but also because he brings a lot of energy to his characters and seems to be a natural acting talent.

FL and 2FL were not spectacular, but they were good, and at no point did they wreck the vibe of the show, or become annoying.... although whoever the costume designer who dressed them is, they should be fired and never work in c-dramas again. These ladies are beautiful, and they deserve better than to be dressed in velvet drapery and vinyl tablecloths.

Supporting characters were really pretty bad.... you get your typical side-character overacting for the mostpart, although the Japanese villain was played well, I think. The bgm and ost were really incredibly standard-sounding, but at least the songs never drowned out the emotions or dialogue in the scenes they were playing over. I think the direction and editing were decent, but a little too blocky and disjointed to really create a truly addictive flow for the viewer. If you combine all these factors together (boilerplate ost, hammy supporting cast, silly clothing choices, choppy editing), the impression it leaves is of a "typical Republican Era drama".

However because of the ML and 2ML, the easy and un-confusing pace of the story, and the satisfactory ending, I think this is one of those shows that's at the top of the pile when it comes to it's genre. Above average.

Revenge has never tasted sweeter...

"Love Trap Limerence" follows the story of past lovers separated by a bitter betrayal. The heroine Jiang Yao is a secret agent to a organisation that wanted the demise of the powerful warlord Chi Yan Zhou`s father and it resulted in his death. Chi Yan Zhou comes back more powerful than ever, in his thirst for revenge towards the one and only woman who has ever owned his heart.

The plot, dialuge , OST , the chemistry and the visuals. I loved it. Zi Xian is so handsome and talented, a fine charismatic hero for the screen and the way his character could not keep his hands off his heroine was a DELIGHT to watch. My first time seeing the actress portraying the heroine and she did a fine job as well. Loved her figure by the way, she had fine curves! The agony and longing was so clearly felt through the screen between these two. It was quite heartbreaking actually, when he asked her with tears running down his eyes if she ever truly did love him all those years ago.

Short drama that lived higher than my expectations

First of all I am a huge fan of revenge plots ... When a woman is getting revenge on man it becomes thriller or grey ..and in contrast when a man delivering his shot to deliver his revenge on a woman ..it becomes a passionate love story ...this drama serves you the latter ...
Story starts with the ML coming to FL's town to take his revenge against her for what she did to his family and got his father killed 5 years ago. Despite his efforts he can't get over his feelings for her ..and all these years he seemed to stuck into the same loop " did she even loved me for real even for a moment? ". As the story unfolds we see the reason behind FL's actions (not giving any spoilers) .. the entire plot is based on freedom struggle era in china. Everything from cars, trains , telephone to costumes gave the retro (pre retro vibe).

The FL is quite beautiful and I loved her acting as well ... In the same way ML was equally talented and good looking ..both making a perfect duo ... Their chemistry had a good spark to it .. (though at times I felt the FL is reluctant to give a proper smooch scene) other than that everything seems fine.

For first few episodes you will see a passionate kissing scene in every episode.. later cools off to a no kiss climax, what a waste for a story that had so much heat in the pilot episode

But even with it's flaws this drama was still very enjoyable.

Recommended ❤️

Guilty pleasure drama !!

I have seen a few short dramas with similar settings / premise and this one has been one of the best for me .

the drama knows what it wants to tell to the audience - it will not overstate itself and keep to its limitations of its length , acting capabilities of the actors and the storytelling .

the leads exhuded awesome sensual chemistry which is what the premise was set for and it delivers - one of the best kissing scenes in cdramas in short length category - if they had pushed a bit more I would have enjoyed it thouroughly but maybe censorship comes in the way ;) .

The leads work off each other well and would love to see them again in another project .

Simple Story, Strong Emotions

The story follows two past lovers who are separated because of betrayal, with the female lead being involved in the death of the male lead’s father. When he returns years later, more powerful and driven by revenge, their paths cross again but the feelings between them are still very much there. The setup sounds intense, but the drama focuses more on emotions than plot twists.

The plot itself is pretty simple and honestly quite predictable. Most of the twists are easy to guess, and the main villain never really feels like a real threat. There are conflicts, but nothing that makes you stressed or worried for the characters. Even the big issue between the leads gets resolved in a convenient way. So if you are looking for a strong storyline, this might feel a bit underwhelming.

What really makes this drama worth watching is the male lead, played by Zi Xian. He completely carries the show. His screen presence is strong, and he is very expressive, especially with his eyes. Whether it is anger, heartbreak, or soft affection, he makes it feel real. His gaze and the way he delivers emotional scenes really stand out, and honestly, he is the main reason the drama stays engaging.

The second male lead was a nice surprise. He actually manages to match that energy and does not feel overshadowed. He brings a lot of charm and feels very natural on screen, so I would not be surprised to see more of him in future dramas.

The female leads were decent. They were not outstanding, but they did their job well and never felt annoying or out of place. The main focus stays on the leads’ relationship anyway, so it works out fine.

The chemistry between the main couple is really good. You can feel the longing, the history, and the unresolved emotions between them. Some scenes are genuinely heartbreaking, especially when love and resentment collide. I also liked how both characters were willing to sacrifice everything for each other, which made their relationship feel more intense.

Visually, the drama is quite nice. The costumes, setting, and overall aesthetic fit the mood well, and the OST adds to the emotional scenes.

The ending was satisfying, which is always a plus for short dramas. It wraps things up clearly without dragging or feeling incomplete.

Overall, it is not a plot-heavy drama, but it works because of the emotions, chemistry, and especially the male lead’s performance. If you enjoy intense romance with longing and a good visual vibe, this is an easy watch.

I’ve seen worst and I’ve seen better.

so, what to say. first off the positive :
1) Great kissing scenes
2) I think the acting was good, especially ML’s actor, I think he is great with his expressions, sad scenes, etc.
3) I think chemistry was okay, but nothing wow
4) no love triangle
5) seconds leads are actually good and kind people, they made a cute couple, didn’t meddle with the leads or anything
6) great ending. a clear and not too short happy ending. it’s rare a satisfying ending for a short drama, even more a republican era drama.
7) I think it was pretty equal ? How to explained, both of them were ready to die and sacrifice themselves for each other
8) for once it’s not a revenge drama, FL working for an organization (like a cop if we can saw), so fighting for beliefs and the people?

so now :
1) I think this was mostly boring ? the story wasn’t really anything exciting. the villains pretty boring
2) misunderstandings for more than 3/4 of the drama. misunderstanding cleared in ep 20-21 out of 24.
3) pretty slow to get together. first date in ep 22-23 after misunderstanding clear, so dating era for what, 3 eps max ? Well I saw this, it isn’t like this for most mini drama😂
4) FL’s organisation, I don’t know that felt flat to me
5) the costumes were really bad for the women

I’ve seen things on TikTok. I don’t excuse ML behavior, but like seriously. She lied to him and used him (while undercover) and he thought his father died because of her…. So that’s that. That was not the worst I’ve seen in a mini drama

Anyway, could have been better, it wasn’t horrible. It’s short to pass time

Baby's First 'Red-Flag' Republican Spy Mini

If any other actor had played the Male Lead I would absolutely not recommend this show in the slightest except as a "dip your toe in with a "safe" mini" recommendation for someone who has never watched the genre before. Everything about the writing of the show is extremely safe and almost bland.

All the twists are broadcast well before they happen so nothing TRULY shocks. The main villian is basically a non-threat clown so there's no real stakes to think he's a danger to the main leads. The 2ML and 2FL are nice and cute people so there's no real threats from them. Even the "big" problem that "kinda" separates them was resolved because of someone else doing it in truth...

YZX carries this show uphill and is THE reason to watch, nothing else. He kisses well, he cries well, he looks obsessed and heartbroken well... He is just VERY easy to look at.

As for the music, it exists. It's okay to listen to but it doesn't really evoke any deep emotions like a lot of these mini drama songs do.

Basically recommend this ONLY if you are a YZX fan and have nothing better to do.

THE TENSIOOOOON... disappointing ending though...

I looooooved the tension in the first half of the drama. It truly showed it took all their power and effort to resist each other. However the transitioned from enemies to lovers felt so cheap and boring. Th e acting was quite bland as well. Overall I liked the excitement throughout the series... but still a bit disappointing of the post-climax after all that build up.
