Synopsis and drama are worlds apart
Don’t watch if you’re expecting a romance and then a merger of two families. Because show doesn’t give us that. If you here for that then skip this and watch K-drama Five Enough. This show got multiple storylines. Unfortunately the storyline of the mains (as listed) is far from developed. They have the least amount of screentime. And the ‘romance’ doesn’t feel real. There is no real skinship. Just deep fake kisses, holding a hand or arm and exaggerated comedic ‘spicy’ scenes that make me less believe in the couple.
Side characters like ML in laws and female bestie get lot of screentime. With and without the leads. But there stories als aren’t well developed and just cut off at the end of the show. Not that I was interested but if you do it then do it right please.
The real story in this show is the story of the cheating ex coming back with his mistress, now wife. And his highly toxic relationship with her and with his mother. If you like a lot of drama with violence and no consequences then this is a must watch for you.

Double something that may be happiness.
I had high hopes when I first saw previews. Middle age couple at second chance love, check. Children involved (sort of like Five is Enough that I really liked), check. Cast are pretty well known, check. Alas, mid point now and it’s not connecting. I feel like it’s all over the place. It’s confusing who the main cast are. It doesn’t feel like it’s the leads. They have less screen time than everyone else that are supporting. Even if it’s the others, it’s confusing what the central plot is of those characters. At least to me, there isn’t substance as to what they want to relay of those characters. Example are the in-laws of the male lead. So much time on them yet???? Then female leads ex and his wife have so much screen time yet, it’s going in circles and they’re more of annoyance than bringing meaning to story. Trouble lies in the writing that lacks depth. As for the leads, disappointingly underwhelming. FL is overly cute, smart, independent, yet fails to effectively draw me in to her character. ML is, well…..flat out boring. His voice, his actions, his life, has no command. He asks for cheek kisses and when she gives him one, it’s like middle schoolers who are just experiencing love for the first time. Eh, judge for yourself. I may totally be off according to you.
Mind you all this can have a total turnaround in next half. Currently though I’m just not feeling it. I will see it to the end and hope writer and directors gives this great cast some justice to finish strong.

different shades of relationships
Though I have watched till episode 18, and I don't know how it will turn out in the later episodes, I felt like writing this review"Double Happiness" is one of those rare modern C-dramas that quietly sneaks up on you with its emotional authenticity, grounded storytelling, and endearing characters. What sets this drama apart is the variety of relationships it explores.
From young love to second marriages, parental bonds to sibling bonds, the drama does an excellent job of portraying a wide range of relationships, each with its own struggles, missteps, breakthroughs, and dynamics. It doesn’t rely on over-the-top conflicts or villains; though the FL's ex husband behaves like a psychotic character in places that is understandable given the pressure he is in (in life) and the realisation of his wife's infidelity that hurts his male ego. The show reflects on how people naturally clash, grow, forgive, and change over time.
One of the show’s greatest strengths is how it handles marriage, not as a romantic ideal, but as a daily, evolving partnership. We see couples grappling with communication issues, financial stress, in-laws, co-parenting. Though the overall tone is of warmth, the writing doesn’t sugarcoat the compromises or hard conversations, nor shy away from celebrating the small victories and quiet acts of love that can sustain a marriage.
All the major (even minor characters, like the assistant in the Remarriage Agency) are good looking. The leads are not just easy on the eyes but also likeable and layered. They’re both idealistic without being unrealistic. Their chemistry feels lived-in rather than theatrical, which adds to the authenticity of their relationship.
While it’s still a drama, "Double Happiness" keeps things fairly grounded in modern-day life—career struggles, divorce, widowhood, childcare, emotional struggles, and changing gender roles all make an appearance. Yet it manages to be hopeful and uplifting without glossing over reality.
of course, I will wait to see how the drama evolves in the next episodes.

Smart Leads, Mature Love, and Revenge Done Right—Why Aren’t More People Watching This?
💬 Plot ReviewThis drama is one of those hidden gems that makes you wonder how it ended up being so underrated. The plot is fresh, not your usual recycled modern C-drama romance. It skips the high school love triangles and goes straight into adult territory—revenge, healing, and relationships built on mutual respect.
Every episode had me locked in, waiting for what twist or clever plan would unfold next. It’s rare to find a story that keeps things this grounded but still engaging all the way through. And honestly, it was a relief to watch something that didn’t try to be cute—it just was good.
🧠 Main Characters
These two leads? Absolutely top-tier. Smart, emotionally mature, and completely in sync. No childish fights, no jealousy, just quiet support and unshakable loyalty. Their chemistry wasn’t about romance sparks—it was about trust, teamwork, and two people handling life like grown-ups.
And the FL’s revenge arc? So satisfying. We didn’t even need a dramatic flashback of her past—her calm, calculated payback told the whole story. Respect.
👿 Villains
The antagonists weren’t over-the-top evil, but their impact was heavy. You could sense there was something more to their story, but honestly? I didn’t need it. Their actions were enough to make me root for their downfall.
It wasn’t the kind of hate where you scream at the screen—it was the quiet, cold kind where you sit back and say, “Yep. You deserve everything coming to you.”
💬 Supporting Cast
My favorite? You You. Her character hit a little too close to home—introverted, insomniac, loves gaming… I basically felt like I was watching myself on screen. Even her work setup made me consider a career change.
And the kids in this drama? So natural, so adorable. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy their scenes that much, but they really added to the emotional weight of the story.
🎭 Acting & Vibes
The performances were strong across the board. No overacting, no awkward pauses—just believable delivery and characters that felt real. Even the smaller roles had presence, which helped the story feel whole.
No one felt out of place. It was the kind of acting that doesn’t scream for attention, but slowly pulls you in.
✅ Final Thoughts
This drama deserves way more love than it’s getting. If you’re tired of teenage love stories and looking for something mature, with smart leads, a grounded revenge plot, and a romance built on understanding—this is for you.
No unnecessary drama, no silly misunderstandings—just clean storytelling with depth. Highly recommend for fans of emotionally intelligent romance and satisfying payback.

Pretty awful drama
this drama is such a disappointment and badly written. I am so disappointed, I was waiting for this drama, expected an adult second chance romance, 2 families coming together and a pretty light funny watch. But…. it got so wrong.- I think the leads had chemistry and I liked the little moments. It had potential, it was funny how it started and the fake relationship. But their screentime was so little in their own drama. it’s not enough scenes to develop this well and we didn’t get the families hanging out together until the last 2 min of the drama. Also just to say for the interested, this drama has no kissing scenes. Like 2 fake kisses and implied intimacy only. Not much skinship or anything
This drama should have been way more focus on the leads, seeing them become one family and giving us more time of the 6 of them bonding, spending time together and giving us a wedding at the end. Until the end, they are living as neighbors and at the very end it says that they finally got married at some point and became a family. This should have been in the plot to begin with, not a mention at the end. The drama was mostly going nowhere for many eps and it was wrapped up very fast like the plot was missing eps. Well at least happy ending….. and they was no breakup
Lily, she was okay, but I was just annoyed when she got made at her and was like « you can’t be with him or whatever », I don’t remember. When she knew she was seeing ML. She even hit her like you scolded a child. That’s weird, she a grown ass women.
- the support cast had more screentime then the leads and most of them were horrible characters and not interesting. The story was most focus on the second lead
1) Qiao Hao & Hu Xiao Jiao and others related to them :
These 2 had so much screentime….
this was the worst part of this drama.
I started skipping them at some point. So damn annoying and what an horrible man.
He was trash, a cheater, an abuser and a ra*pist! That SA plot was so unnecessary, what were they thinking by adding this. I was so confused, no one was doing anything, no police. Like it was normal and life just continued. That was unbelievable. But after reading some comments, I realized that over there, this is not seen like SA between spouse, hence nothing happened. That’s is just a shock for us international viewers it seems. It was back and forth…. At last she finally divorced him. How they romanticized their divorce, the like scene in the park, her dancing…. Who gives a damn, we don’t wanna see that!
The plot of him spending time with his daughter only because he wanted the son…
How the hell did FL continued to give the kids to him to spend time.
His mom…. Unbearable. Still not sure to understand why she was so obsessed with the grandson and literally ignoring the granddaughter. Poor girl. Watching this other trash character was hard. They kept saying she hadn’t long to live, at some point I was like, when is she finally gonna die. No satisfaction there either, just a little mention in the epilogue that she died.
His dad, he seemed like it had a little decency, but no. He knew they were wrong (regarding the son) but did nothing and helped them
Her aunt and uncle, they seemed pretty normal…. Got her back and were there for her, seems like they had a pretty good relationship/marriage, so I can see some positive point in their characters I guess. Even if I was disappointed in their reaction to the SA, but like I mentioned earlier, seems like a normal reaction from people over there.
Her mom, didn’t add anything expect taking screentime.
The kidnapping in the last ep was nonsense. Rolled my eyes I wanted to fast forward.
They went for a little redemption arc for her, apologizing to FL, she didn’t accept the apology which is good. Now she’s leaving the country, okay who cares goodbye.
Anyway to summarize, all of these characters stole way too much screentime from the leads story and were absolutely not enjoyable or interesting. The drama could have been cut in half (the run time and eps) and the story between the leads would have been the same
2) FL’s friend : Not much anything to say. her story with her ex wasn’t anything exciting and it wasn’t developed much, just got back together. but we could say her friendship with FL was good.
3) Yo Yo : I did not dislike her character. I actually appreciate the journey from her being lost, sad and all at home ? her parents way too much controlling. I think it was nice seeing her going to work at the cemetery, meeting her master, getting some closure with her sister. Her smiling and being happy. The letter from her master after his death was very sad to me. How we got to understand him more, he was there because he knew he was gonna die young, he was hanging out at his future grave and with future « companions » (the death people). I thought that was a good scene. We didn’t really get closure for her. this was the last we saw of her, so now she’s still gonna work there? she was not seen again in the last ep.
And OMG, that was so damn weird…. her master died (and he was her boss, coworker) and no one told her ?????? made no sense.
4) in laws/grand parents : I thought for a while she wasn’t so bad, but she annoyed me with her reaction to Yo Yo’s job. I was rolling my eyes, let her live her life damnit. both were so focus on appearance and not understanding her. « what will we say to others (about what she does for work) ». He was childish for most of the drama and annoying. how he was acting with the granddaughters to make them act and dislike future step mom. How he was comparing with the dead sister and acting with Yo Yo. But, we can appreciate how they still got a good relationship with their son in law after their daughter’s passing, them still being a family. We got no closure, they were never seen again at the end
I absolutely do not recommend this drama, a waste of time

A Missed Opportunity
Double Happiness is a show that started off with a particular premise but changed direction in the second half. In essence, it was told from the heroine’s perspective. As her purpose in life change, so did her views on relationships. In some ways, this show is a refreshing take on blended family situations. However, the significant focus on the second couple meant that this was undermined quickly. Not enough story time was devoted to how two families came together.
Our main couple are delightful and warm. Both are respectful of one another where the chances of one on one time are sabotaged regularly. They also have challenging work/business lives but both are very pragmatic and successful in what they do.
The second couple are, in a word, vile. Yet, the writers try to make us feel sympathetic to them. I’m sad to say, I belonged to that group that fast forwarded the rough their scenes 80% of the time.
The third couple were okay. Again an interesting take on a couple that have like each other forever. She is the owner of a second chance relationship agency. He, a supposed playboy.
In many ways, I enjoyed the fourth couple, that wasn’t a couple, the most. We got to see an interesting insight into a cemetery that is a final resting place that even I would like to be found.
The parents in this story, except Aunt Lily, are beyond frustrating.
Be warned. There are topics in this show that aren’t pleasant.
My final thoughts are Kitty Zang is a delight. She carries any show she is in and she does that here too as a single mum who sticks to her guns. Our ML is also very good but he makes it look easy. Both were great together.

If you have anger issues don't watch
Double happiness is about a middle aged widower who raises two little girl✓s by himself and a divorced lady (su xiaxin) who fall in loveThey start with the whole fake dating troupe along the line they fall in love for real it wasn't all those I like you confessions it was just hinted
What I liked about the movie
✓How they were so mature in their relationship and realised that dating doesn't mean their children should be friends
✓her not so biological mom was amazing 🥺
✓Even the kids were cute 🥺
What I disliked
✓My God....😡the ex husband had no character development at all till the end he was a jerk.....you know those movie where shitty characters get karma satisfactorily no this wasn't it ...and they used the whole filal son to push the story...it didn't help even the ending he just lost his mom and his apartment
His mom who by the was trash too she disregarded the girl child for some stupid reason and showed blatant favouritism to the guy child which she chased away by herself when ex wife was pregnant with him.For about half the episode she was sick.....I was like when was she gonna die .....P.S it was till the ending
She even had the strength to try to run away with FL child
✓How she handled her ex husband situation was terrible
Let's admit that she couldn't stop him from seeing the children at least she should have told the eldest child the truth she was old enough to understand but no she kept on allowing them to meet him till the eldest ended hating him and his family....
✓And my god the ML ex wife parents like the grandpa was soo annoying they literally told him to move on but when he did he would literally relate everything to the fact that he was dating...to him even tell the two children to not like FL because"stepmothers are bad" and almost got lost because of him and he was like ML shouldn't have taken FL to pick the kids .... like if you hadn't poisoned their mind they wouldn't have tried to trick FL ....bruh
My god even supporting characters weren't supporting they were just collecting screen time I was soo angry but I was like the ending was gonna be satisfying but no redemption arc ,no character development, the only terrible character that got character development was ex husband mistress/wife which was because he SA her which was kinda brushed off in movie and she ended up having sense
Mother of ex husband mistress/wife was so stupid too she was just there
Just few characters were okay like FL friend and her was soo cute and funny also FL friend and her husband relationship was soo cute cus her knew her soo well
When they got married so funny she was soo in shock
And ex husband mistress/wife uncle and aunt relationship was so nice cos he married her despite finding out she couldn't give birth that's love
These scenes make the movie worthwhile
But...
Would I rewatch? No
This is not the kinda review that these reviews are just exaggerating maybe you can like it trust me the beginning might be interesting but along the line you might finna lose it

Was this review helpful to you?
