the ending didn’t fully meet my expectation

I really enjoyed watching this drama. The story was interesting and unique, and it kept me excited for every new episode. The characters were engaging and the plot had many moments that made the drama feel special. For most of the show, I would honestly rate it 9/10 because I was enjoying it so much.

However, the latest episodes made me hesitate a little. I didn’t really like the ending, and I feel like it could have been much more satisfying. It would have been perfect if they showed more about his pov ; how he actually entered the other world. I also wish they had included a scene where the family meet their ancestor, because that moment could have added more depth and emotional impact to the story.

Even with that disappointment at the end, I still truly liked the drama and had a great time watching it. The story and the journey were very enjoyable, even if the ending didn’t fully meet my expectations.

Family drama not alot romance

If you like stories about family this def a drama for you. The family dynamic was great. However this drama did not have enough romance for me i disappointed im fan of two leads thought they had good chemistry should have more screen time together. I hope the maybe one day to see these two leads together in a better romance drama. I honestly wont be watching this drama again. Just felt like waste for me.

A Delicious Misinterpret In A Time Slip

A food-themed, historical-fiction, romance, comedy, drama. Centered on a family who runs a restaurant. Once, they have an idea to make an advertisement video about their eatery with 'historical' gimmick. Turns out, they accidentally got slipped into past time, the dynasty era, and stop at the Yong'An city. Their long journey unveil a bunch of mystery behind. And leading them into the serious 'forbidden relationship' within the fate.

Starting the sequence by a bunch of witty jokes that fit my taste. Hilarious and silly. The food looks appetizing and tasty. The culinary themed at its peak. But, it doesn't last long enough. The focus on food and comedy slowly shattered as long as the show runs. The transition within a comedy and politic kingdom becomes dull, it's rough. The tension was unwell-structured.

So much wrong in this drama. The premise was unique and promising, especially the acestors plot, but sadly the execution was lame. The weight of political kingdom and the comedy ain't balance at all. After those long journey, they still lefting us behind with too much plot holes. It ain't a good wrapped, gosh.

I'm beyond loving the performance of Wang Yinglu and Li Yunrui, honestly. Their dynamic chemistry was so good. The love-hate was well developed. Especially Wang Yinglu's detail mimic, so good. She's flawless and barely overreact.

Speak about character development. I'm beyond stressfull and disappointed. Some character have zero development and become more annoying. Such as, Shen Shaoguang's older brother, and father. Their character need a bold development, honestly. They failed to give such a big impact of those characters.

If you familiar with 'Moon Lovers: Scarlett Heart Ryo' and love this kinda drama, this one might be fit for your taste. The ending was healed me enough from Moon Lovers, honestly. A bit similar like those cut-ending scene of Moon Lovers.

All in all, the plot holes were ruinous and the balance of political kingdom with comedy one is unwell-build. Felt too rushed and packed, while it start with slow and fun. But the chemistry still hit the top. At least, both heroine could maintain the good things of their romance stuff.

When a guy in a revenge drama meets a family from a comedy

This was an entertaining ride that I enjoyed all the way through. I do think it's quite crucial to understanding the story that the watcher realize there's a revenge drama happening along side the comedy. The male lead's goals don't change, and neither does his tragic back story. The first act of the drama is all about the comedy that the family is in intruding on the male lead's very serious drama and slowly drawing him into a more light-hearted existence. In the second act, the revenge drama starts to assert itself again, and things get a little more dangerous for the family while everyone tries to solve the conspiracy and help the ML get his revenge (I mean, more justice than "revenge"... like, this isn't The Glory or anything!).

Thinking about it that way, the tonal shifts didn't feel jarring for me. I felt like the revenge plot stuff was satisfyingly complex and the resolution believable. The comedy aspects lightened that story line, while the drama aspects put some extra angst in the comedy storyline, but I found the blend satisfying. I enjoy both revenge dramas and comedies, and I think that the blend here was good at taking the strengths from both genres and using them to lessen the excesses of the other. Revenge dramas often get bogged down in angst and darkness, but the show had comedic scenes throughout. Comedy plots can be underdeveloped and they can tend towards silliness and repetativeness, but the drama elements kept things moving and changing. The comedic characters had more depth and more emotional range than a lot of comedic characters do (although the father and brother are a little more one-note than everyone else) and there are some really enjoyable side characters and stories.

The ending.... well. As another review pointed out, time travel stories in China are a bit tricky because of regulations and I think most of my complaints about the ending can be chalked up to that. I agree with others that it was more "bittersweet" than "happy" but the final note was more sweet than bitter. Overall, I found it really enjoyable and fun.

Moral of the Story?

The message behind the show is what caught my attention -- that despite your circumstances or situation you must strive to survive. The characters played their roles so well that'll make you eager to watch the next episode. This drama is packed with wholesome and sad moments that will make some of us cry but later you'll find yourself laughing because the show is also packed with a lot of humor. The visuals is top notch and costumes is pretty. The drama in my opinion is not heavy on romantic plots between the ML and FL which is a good thing because it gives those with supporting roles a chance to shine. Also i suck at cooking so i'm learning some new dish and how to cook pork through this show *sighs. Overall a must to watch drama before the end of 2025.

Could have been so good.....

The chemistry and story between the ML and FL is 10/10, but the long drawn out family scenes completely drag the story down, especially the ones focused on the Shen men. Yes, some of the family scenes are very sweet and cute, but this drama is trying too hard to be a family comedy. It's akin to having to explain a funny joke, the joke might be funny but when you explain it.... it's no longer funny, and the explanation becomes annoying. The Shen men scenes, 30 seconds funny, 2 minutes plus of drawn out annoying behavior, just drags the story out. It's not the actors fault, they're great but this suffers from poor editing and too much filler

Boring, monotonous

At first, I found it very interesting; it's a blend of classic historical drama with humor, but then it becomes monotonous, with boring dialogue.
The father and son characters, in particular, are incredibly silly and dull.
They're the worst part of the story.

I've seen Chang Long act in better comedies, playing very funny characters, but this isn't one of them.

Wang Ying Lu and Li Yun Rui seemed like a good pairing that would elevate the series, but their lead characters simply fizzled out, becoming secondary characters.
Watching it is a waste of time.

No originality, the only thing it is good for is the food, and a few funny scenes

Yummy Yummy Yummy is a historical costume time-travel CDrama starring Wang Ying Lu and Li Yun Rui. The best part about this drama is all the food; it is funny to watch, but nothing extraordinary. It would be better to cut it short to 24 episodes instead of 32. Too many repetitive scenes.

Synopsis: The story follows the Shen family, who accidentally arrive in Yong'an City and encounter Lin Yan, a royal official. This chance meeting leads them on an extraordinary journey filled with culinary delights, local traditions, and an unconventional love story. But what twists and turns await them in this remarkable adventure?

A potentially great story completely butchered...

I was really looking forward to this show and had high expectations for this. They had Wang Ying Lu, Li Yun Rui, and I was even a little excited over Chang Long...How did they butcher this so badly?? I did not need this to be a romance focused show but when I realized how poor/boring the plot was turning out, I put all of my hopes into the romance. Bad idea. Lin Yan falls for Shen Shao Guang first, which is sweet and adorable to watch...at first. But when SSG finally realizes that she loves him back, the hell she puts both him and herself through is so stressful and ridiculous. It takes the entire drama for the misunderstanding between them to be cleared up and the main couple to get together. And the way they resolve the two thinking they are related this whole time is... the dumbest member of the family (Shen Shao Jie) simply remembers that they aren't from something their grandfather told him. So they find out they aren't relatives and marry in the same ep. They are married for 1 ep in total before tragedy rips them apart in the form of a fire that was destined to happen at the family restaurant. So the ML is left without his wife and dies alone. Oh, and NO ONE remembers that family ever existed except him. Meanwhile in the future, no one remembers anything that happened besides SSG and she is told she was dreaming. Her and LY are reunited in the end for 30secs when his future self sees her at her ancestor's shrine. Apparently they both had the same dream? I don't know... My forehead hurts from how many times I've slapped it watching this garbage! I can't fault WYL or LYR at all for this though. Their acting was still good. It's just terrible storytelling.

And the parts of the drama that I was hoping would make it more tolerable fell flat as well. Anything the Shao Guang family did was either cringy or boring. The men in the family were just insufferable. Yang Yang was cute and the mother was admirable at times but that's no where near enough to save the show. Li Chuang was also enjoyable but there was not enough of him either. We did get a 2nd CP which was Pei Fei and the Grand Princess....another forehead slap for that one...And finally we have Lin Yan's revenge agenda. They spend a lot of time uncovering the truth but the resolution in the end was so quick and senseless how it played out . It wasn't even satisfying. Best part of the drama...most of the food looked good.

Yummy Yummy Yummy: Flavors of Love and Home

🔹 Would I rewatch? Yes
🔹 Can food, family, and fate weave a love story in a city you never meant to reach?

📕 Overview
🔹 32 episodes, historical romance and culinary slice-of-life
🔹 Adapted from the web novel “Chang’an Small Restaurant” (长安小饭馆) by Ying Tao Gao (樱桃糕)
🔹 Wang Yinglu plays Shen Shaoguang, a clever daughter leading her family into new experiences
🔹 Li Yunrui plays Lin Yan, a royal official whose life becomes tangled with the Shen family
🔹 After a sudden twist of fate, the Shen family time-travels to Yong’an City.
🔹 At the time of review, 7 episodes have aired
🔹 Among the food-centered historical dramas of 2025, this series shines with its grounded style.
🔹 Rather than palace intrigue or heavy romance, it captures the warmth of sharing meals with people who become like family.
🔹 Watching feels like Modern Family meeting Chef Hua comfort food, light comedy, and family bonding with a Chinese twist.

🌸 How It Felt Watching
🔹 Warm, romantic, and emotionally stable. Each episode made me want to share a meal with their family.
🔹 Tone: gentle, hopeful, heartfelt
🔹 Themes: home, renewal, food, connection, chance
🔹 Like "A Table for Two in Chang’an" (2025) and "City of Silk and Saffron" (2024), this 2025 drama blends food, family, and fate.
🔹 It shows how sharing meals and new beginnings can turn strangers into family.

✨ Cast & Acting
🔹 Wang Yinglu as Shen Shaoguang: brings energy and humor to every scene
🔹 Li Yunrui as Lin Yan: initially guarded but warms up as he settles in with the Shen family
🔹 The supporting cast, including the entire Shen family and regulars at the marketplace, adds humor and heart, while the royal characters provide a refreshing change of pace.

🎵 OST
🔹 Red Dust Traveller (红尘客) by Curley Gao
🔹 Feast Begins (喜宴开) by Wang Yinglu and Li Yunrui
🔹 Where to Go (何从) by Wang Wei Yi
🔹 A Multitude (千绪) by Bo Yuan
🔹 Poor Luck (薄幸) by Zhang Zi Ning

🎞️ Production Style
🔹 I liked the director and the team’s use of natural light and warm tones that enhance the food scenes and highlight color.
🔹 Costumes and sets are colorful, full of everyday details, with markets and kitchens that look lived-in
🔹 The pacing lets the viewers enjoy each story beat and meal

☕ Tea Notes
🔹 What worked: chemistry between leads, plenty of visual comfort (especially food scenes), easy flow from episode to episode
🔹 What didn’t: for me, a few side plots pulled attention away from the central story, and sometimes jokes felt a bit forced. I also wished there was more in-depth food culture explored
☕ SpillTheDramaTea’s Rating: 9.5 / 10
🌿 Tea-Scale: Full of flavor and heart
✏️ As SpillTheDramaTea, do you believe that home is created through shared meals and small acts of kindness?

A Deliciously Slow-Burn Romance

The secret ingredient of this show isn't the food.

It's the romance between the two leads. (≧ヮ≦)💕

This drama serves up plenty of delicious food, heartfelt romance, and just the right amount of comedy. Honestly, I don't even know where to begin with this review... except to say: don't watch it on an empty stomach. 👩‍🍳🤌

The story follows a modern family who suddenly finds themselves transported back in time, where they end up living with one of their ancestors. Together, they open a restaurant and use modern cooking techniques, recipes, and marketing ideas to compete with the local businesses.

The overall story is lighthearted and easy to watch. The conflicts never become overwhelmingly heavy, making it a perfect comfort drama. The comedy landed surprisingly well for me, and the cinematography deserves special mention. Whether it's beautifully presenting the food, emphasizing tiny character actions, or quietly capturing someone's changing expression, the camera always seems to know exactly where your attention should be.

What I appreciated most was that the drama never tried to make itself feel grand or overly complicated. The story is fairly simple, but it's packed with thoughtful little details that make the world feel alive. I loved seeing the family adapt modern ideas to an ancient setting like using chalkboards to update the menu, handing customers menu lists, taking orders with small notepads, and coming up with clever business strategies. Those tiny touches gave the restaurant so much personality.

The romance, however, is undoubtedly the heart of the show, and also the source of my greatest frustration because it's such a slow burn. 😂 I laughed, giggled, sighed, and occasionally wanted to yell at my screen, "Geez... just get a room already!" The chemistry between the leads is simply irresistible. Shen Shaoguang's cheerful, energetic personality perfectly complements Ancestor Lin's quiet, reserved nature. Watching two complete opposites slowly fall for each other was ridiculously satisfying.

And then there's Li Yun Rui.

His performance completely won me over. I found myself quietly studying his micro-expressions throughout the series because they revealed everything his character couldn't say aloud. Long before the script openly acknowledged his feelings, his eyes already had. Every subtle glance, every restrained smile, every moment of quiet concern felt like little emotional clues. By the time those hints became impossible to ignore, all I could think was:

"Oh no... he's completely gone for her." 👀

Li Yun Rui carried so much of the romance through subtle acting alone, and for me, that's what elevated the entire drama.

While the drama begins as a comforting romcom, it gradually takes on a more emotional tone in its latter half. It never completely loses its warmth, but be prepared for the story to ask a little more of your heart than its early episodes suggest.

Overall, Yummy Yummy Yummy is one of those rare comfort dramas that leaves you smiling long after you've finished watching. It doesn't rely on grand political intrigue or earth-shattering plot twists. Instead, it wins you over with lovable characters, delightful comedy, delicious food, and a romance that quietly sneaks under your skin before you even realize it. If you're craving a historical romcom that will make you laugh, kick your feet, and completely melt over two people falling in love, this one is absolutely worth adding to your watchlist.

Time travel drama.....with a twist.

I really enjoyed watching this drama. Unlike many time travel dramas ,the FL time traveled with her entire family, and they decided to stay in that time period.
Great chemistry between the FL and ML.
Li Yun Rui is not just a handsome face, his acting has definitely progressed with each drama.
I enjoyed the quirky personalities of her family and how they all cared for each other.
When the ML found out who was behind his parents deaths, I had mixed emotions due to the fact that despite having murdered his family he took him in and actually cared for him like a son.
The romance between the ML and FL was very slow burn, but name a Chinese drama where they don't kiss for the first time after episode 25! But at least in this drama, the FL had a reason why she kept rejecting the ML.

So many people did not like the ending. I didn't mind it and here's why....
It was heart wrenching that they finally got together and the FL and her family realize that this is the point where according to history they die. The unexpected part is that we continue to see what the ML goes through once they are gone, it was so sad!! But it made me think of how in real life, went we visit historical places, I realize that I am walking into a place that used to be someones home, but their memories and existence are forgotten. Man the tears came flowing.

Now in present day the FL is the only one who remembers, so she starts to think that it was all a dream....until the very last scene, she meets the present day ML and he tells her he had a dream about her too.
That to me made all the difference, because if the ML also didn't remember her, then it would feel like it was for nothing, but he did remember her.
