TOP FORM IS JUST TOP FORM...
I WOULD LIKE TO FIRST MENTION I AM NOT A BL FAN . HONESTY SPEAKING WHENEVER I WATCHED A BL SERIES SEEING THEM KISSING WOULD MAKE ME WANT TO THROW UP BECAUSE IN OUR SOCIETY MOST OF THE PEOPLE SEE GAY PEOPLE WITH BAD THOUGHTS . SO , AT FIRST I DECIDED NOT TO WATCH IT . BUT, ACCIDENTLY BROWSING I FOUND IT'S TRAILER WATCHING IT KIND OF GENERATED CUROSITY IN ME , SO I STARTED WATCHING IT RELUCTANTLY. BUT NOW I AM COMPLETY OBSESSED BY IT ,THAT IT MADE ME WRITE FIRST REVIEW OF MY LIFE.HERE ARE FIEW THING THAT MADE ME FALL FOR THIS SERIES:
1. AKIN'S DEEP PASSION FOR PERFECTION IN HIS WORK AND JINS UNDYING LOVE AND SUPPORT FOR AKIN REGARDLESS OF CIRCUMSTANTES, EVEN IF SOMETIMES THEY BROKE UP IT MADE THIER RELATIONSHIP MORE ROBUST.
2. AKIN'S FORGIVENESS AND GENTLE ATTITUDE TOWARDS OTHERS.
3.AKIN'S GRANDMA'S DEEP BELIEF IN AKINTHAT BOUGHT HIM TO SUCH HIGHT.
4. SERIES WAS PRECISE AND TO THE POINT.
5.EVERY EMOTION CONVEYED IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY.

Masterclass in adaptation!
Wow, this series had me absolutely floored from the start. I have seen the animated series a while ago, and remembered it being quite toxic and non-consensual in parts. I will need to rewatch to see if I got that wrong, because the live action is the absolute opposite of that. It is sweet, passionate and loving. The actor's chemistry is out of this world. The cinematography is amazing. Color choices, lighting, angles... everything top tier. The choice to cast Smart (Don't Say No) and Boom (Chains Of Heart) together is nothing short of genius. These two have the best chemistry in a first cooperation that i've ever seen. It's a treat to watch. Apart they stand out in acting skills as well. They totally embraced their characters and they paly their roles as if they have done them for decades. They never outshine eachother though, they leave enough room for the other to shine, while supporting their performance.
The story has stayed intact for the most part. I did miss some scenes, like the parked car conversations and the anxiety on award-night, and some of the side characters were given a smaller part than they had in the anime, but i'm hoping this will be corrected in S2. There's even talk of an S3 now, but let's see it that will happen. The BL world is very dynamic after all.
My guess is that this show has set a new standard and raised the bar for anime adaptations and even for BL in itself. A true masterpiece!

A true treasure among the sea of Thai BLs
I rarely do reviews but I truly want to write this one. Before I start, I want to clarify first that I came to watch this series with a low expectation since live actions always have that stigma of being bad due to maybe the storyline doesn't stick to the og version, or the vibe, settings, characters, styling, etc. don't fit into how the original works were portrayed, or maybe just not what the fans have visualized/anticipated.
I also have the tendency to drop BLs since nowadays this industry just seems so "wash, rinse, and repeat." BL after BL, cp after cp (not calling any names here) that commonly reached the point of plain boring and ridiculously forced/stiff/fake (personal opinion). And I have been seeing BL contents for almost a decade. Very little things (including storyline or plot) can please me at this point...but this one? Took my breath away quite literally.
First of all, I love love loveeeeee SmartBoom's chemistry. Immediately became obsessed with them and I only liked 3 pairs so far from tons of series I have seen before, so you guessed it, they are now entering my fav list as well. Imagine my surprise when I learned that this is the first time these two were paired together because I, for the first time, really thought to myself, "wow, this is what it meant to be real actors. They must have been together in another series before." (oh how wrong I was) And apart from their amazing chemistry, their fan-service is top-notched. XD
I initially started watching not knowing what to expect aside from knowing that this is Dakaichi's adaptation, and I liked the anime to some extent many years ago (mostly nostalgic sentiment that I still do now), but dare I say, it's even better than the original works.
Comparing to the manga/anime, the series feels more relatable, and the emotions portrayed by the actors were done perfectly; it felt like the real characters have walked out and entered the sets themselves. I'd say there's a perfect balance of "human touch" in it that makes this live action so lively. And whoever did the casting, you deserve a raise!
Plot wise, I was really glad that they cut off a lot of red-flagged scenes and make Jin a green flag but still tried to stick to the original version. It feels like the manga, anime, and live action went on three complete directions yet still delivered the same ideas, and that makes me appreciate the efforts that the filming crews and actors have put into to make this story as "Dakaichi" as possible.
The only downsides of this series are the pace and some plot holes....how a little rushed it was towards the end, some parts felt like it could be expanded better but weren't. But overall, those factors weren't a turn-off point for me since issues were resolved, and the situations ended on a brighter side. I also enjoyed the fact that the live action brought real-life struggles of celebrities into the plate, something that Dakaichi had somewhat glossed over. And truthfully, I really cannot blame the series to be this way because those plot holes came from the script/story itself, and not how the actors delivered it.
I was able to finish the series on a happy note (and smiled like a mother seeing Smartboom cried at every episode's reaction haha). I am currently on my sixth rewatch because I just miss Smartboom and every Thursday of TopForm airing so much. And those NC scenes? Oh. my. God.
It might not be the best series ever, definitely not absolutely mind-flowing or anything, especially if you are already familiar with the plot from the get-go (and maybe I like it so much because I entered the frame with a low expectation) but as a viewer of the original works? It is one of the best live actions I have ever seen, and I'm saying this from the bottom of my heart.
So definitely give this series a try, and see for yourself whether if you'll enjoy it just like I did! :)

A Gem
Honestly, the plot was over convoluted. But it was more then made up for with the acting and the director/editor. The director/editor did their thing. So many excellent decisions were made in the making of this drama. I really want to applaud them. They did excellent. While Smart and Boom did their job holding this plot up, the director/editor nailed and bolted it to the sky. I really enjoyed it. I am glad they didn't drag out the tropes that already felt a little dragged. So far the best bl drama of 25'.Was this review helpful to you?
Adorable
Really loved the chemistry between Akin and Jin. Akin and Jin both looks very adorable. This is one of my favourite shows based around “love”. To me it depicts something that’s real. It’s realistic and maybe to some people that makes them sad, for me it makes me happy, even when I cried I ended up laughing with tears on my eyes. It really touched me a lot.Was this review helpful to you?

A rollercoaster of emotions... beautifully written !
Wow… What a way to end such an incredible BL ! I shed so many tears - tears of joy, anger, and most of all, sadness. Top Form has left a deep, lasting impact on me. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same after experiencing this story. SmartBoom delivered a performance that was raw, layered, and utterly unforgettable. A broken soul finally discovering his safe place, his home…it was powerful, painful, and beautifully real.My poor babies went through so much. There’s so much I want to say, yet words feel almost inadequate to describe how beautifully written and directed this series is. Every emotion hit me like a wave. The chemistry between Smart and Boom was insane - so real, so natural. It felt like these two were born to play these roles together.
The cinematography completely blew me away. Every scene was crafted with such care - each frame felt like a painting. The way emotions were captured through lighting, angles, and subtle visual storytelling made every moment even more powerful. Some shots were so breathtaking, they left me speechless. (Honey scene 👀)
One of the things that struck me the most was how emotionally mature both Akin and Jin were. Their reactions, even when clashing, were always valid. (Especially the scene in the car) They had every right to feel what they felt, and instead of spiraling into miscommunication tropes, they talked. They faced hard truths. They apologized. They listened. Seeing two people not only fall in love but actively work on their love made their relationship so refreshing and genuine. It made watching them a true pleasure.
It highly appreciated how every topic was adressed. Nothing was rushed. Every conflict, every tender moment, was allowed to unfold at its own pace, which made the emotional payoff all the more powerful. Whether it was trauma, love, identity, or healing, the story never forced anything. It allowed the characters - and myself - to feel everything
Another huge strength of the show was the side couple. They were well-developed and interesting, but never overshadowed or took away from the main couple’s arc. They’ve been given something to grow, setting the stage for something meaningful in Season 2. It was a perfect balance to me : satisfying now, but still full of potential.
And the NC scenes ? They were soft, delicate, deeply intimate… even playful. But above all, they were filled with emotion. For the first time ever, an NC scene made me cry. It was so human, so vulnerable. It was more than just physical - it was pure love even with pain. It was everything.
With every episode, I found myself wondering, "How can they possibly top this?" But they did. Again and again. I fell in love over and over as the show aired. I’m not afraid to say this is THE BL of the year. No question. It’s taken the number one spot in my heart - and I’ve watched over 150 BLs, so that’s saying something.
Top Form isn’t just a series to me. It's a story that will stay with me for a very long time. 🙏🏻
