It's liquid crack.

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to attempt to explain the genius and the madness which is Affinity... without depriving you of the surprises and twists that await you should you choose to partake in the watching of one of the most insane c-dramas in existence.

This belongs to the "batsh*t crazy" sub-genre of c-drama romance, and it definitively goes straight to the top of the pile, contending for the crown with "I Love My President Although He Is A Psycho" and "My Lethal Man", and yet in every way outclassing them both. Affinity has a kickass ost/bgm, top notch acting from the ML and FL, a sexy and stylish aesthetic, relentlessly novel plot twists that assail your logic and senses at every turn, action oriented sequences baked into every bite of every episode, decent special effects, and a spice level that will make your monitor spontaneously combust.

Some people - not you, of course, but SOME people - may have the rather bourgeois and supercilious notion that a good drama has to have "logic" or "coherence" or "realism". And those people will be sorely disappointed. Woe be unto he who demandeth of this drama such repugnant atrocities as "logic" for he shall find his plate empty. Whereas for those who taketh pleasure in the consumption of fine cheeses, verily his cup runneth over and he shall be blessed indeed with the velvety fondue of this absolute cheese fountain.

What is in store for you I cannot say and I will not say, in much the same way as I would not and could not tell you what is in your christmas presents before you open them on christmas. But I can give you a rough outline of it's flavor profile. We are talking something along the lines of [Embrace In the Dark Night] + [Hunger Games] + [Dr. Who] + [Pee Wee's Playhouse] + [Cherry 2000] + [Devil's Line] + [Speed and Love] + [Omegaverse] + [Hanaoni].

Do yourself a favor, and don't even try to let anyone tell you anything about what this drama is actually about. It doesn't even matter anyways and it will just ruin your fun.

This may be the most creative script i've ever come across. Either that or an impressive rainbow of cliche vomit, like the writer ate the entire all you can eat buffet of plot ideas before he sat down and puked up this magical screenplay. Either way, it's genius. Not genius like "Oh Buffy, this Manet painting is clearly the artist's conception of renaissance social constructs in the modern age of individualism." Not genius like "Oh the ML is obviously a commentary on today's disaffected youth". Not genius like "It was a tour de force of emotional realism".

No, this is a level of genius more along the lines of "Look what happens when you stuff a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey, and then deep fry it."... or genius like "Behold, this is for all intents and purposes a normal everyday aerosol can, but when you press the nozzle, cheese comes out!" And it's actually rather astonishing in it's inventiveness, considering it's basically brainless entertainment.

And I'll tell you what else is astonishing: This drama making it past chinese censorship. Because oh my god. It is so loaded with spice it should come with a warning at the beginning of every episode. Inevitably people are going to watch this and then say "can anyone recc me something like this?" Well the answer is NO. I can pretty confidently say that in terms of plot, vibes, or spice.... there is nothing that truly compares to this breathtaking Masterpiece of Cheese.

If you are addicted to dramas like Lighter and Princess, Love Between Lines, Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, As Beautiful As You, Love Me Love My Voice, or Life Is Sweet.... then just get out now. There is nothing here for you whatsoever. Just a sheer 1000 foot drop in logic, at the bottom of which is a vast river of cheese sauce running through a mythical spice forest.

I've never seen anything quite like it, and it's everything I want in a c-drama, with nothing I don't. 10/10

Clinically Insane, Criminally Addictive

Affinity (2026) is the batshit crazy gateway drug to short dramas i didn't know i needed!

Watching this drama felt like trying to explain a fever dream to a therapist who eventually just gives up and starts asking for spoilers; or to put it another way - it’s like describing a fever dream to someone who just nods, grabs popcorn, and joins in. One sip of its liquid chaos, and you're hooked asking for the full bottle .

If you have told me a week ago that I’d be binging a Chinese short drama, I would have laughed in your face. I thought they were too much and not my cup of tea. I thought i was too sophisticated for 19-minute bursts of adrenaline and questionable CGI.
But I was wrong. Affinity isn't just a cup of tea; it’s a double shot of espresso mixed with pure, unadulterated chaos .

➤ THE "SO BAD IT'S ACTUALLY GOOD" VIBE ⋆✴︎˚。⋆
Let’s be real: the dialogues are cheesy enough to clog your arteries. The script sounds like it was written by a sentient AI that was fed nothing but romance novels and Resident Evil lore. The plot moves at a speed that ignores the laws of physics and logic but the leads have a "genetic compatibility" so high it should come with a radiation warning. One second you’re watching a genetic mystery, the next there’s a standoff that feels like a fever dream, and suddenly we’re hitting the "Esper-guide trope" (manhwa readers know this trope very well) where the leads literally can’t breathe without each other.
It is ridiculously crazy. It’s the kind of show where you find yourself yelling at the screen, "What the hell? What's with the plot? Don't do that? STAWP that's embarrassing!" while immediately clicking 'Next Episode' because the chemistry is somehow against all odds, absolutely electric .

I have reached a point of no return. I’m sitting here, watching a man stare intensely at a woman because their "genetic compatibility" is off the charts, and I’m nodding like, "Yes, this makes perfect sense, he should definitely kidnap her for her own safety." My brain cells are actively packing their bags and leaving, but my heart is doing backflips every time the Male Lead looks like he’s about to either commit a felony or give a hug .
Its actually embarrassing but you will devour it . You will feel like a raccoon in a dumpster; You know this is trash, yet you would feel it’s the most delicious, five-star Michelin trash you’ve tasted in a while.

➤ OVERALL ─ ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─
If you’ve never tried a short drama because you thought they were "too much" like me, let Affinity prove you right and then let it ruin your sleep schedule anyway. It’s ridiculous, it’s over-the-top, and It’s the kind of high-quality madness that makes you question your own standards while you’re busy hitting "Next Episode" with a manic grin on your face .
- DO NOT ask me if the plot makes sense - It doesn’t. I’ve stopped looking for logic and started living for the chaos.
- DO NOT ask me to stop - I can’t. I've become a total short-drama binge watcher overnight lol .

There are plenty of "forced kisses" and high-tension skinship, so if that’s a deal-breaker for you, consider this your warning to stay away. But for those who stay? My god. The chemistry is absolutely feral and kiss scenes are so WILD that I’m genuinely questioning how Chinese censorship let this pass without cutting it to shreds?? I don't know who was in charge of the censorship board the day they reviewed this, but I want to buy that person a drink for looking the other way🍸👀.

Spoiler Alert (EPISODE 7): What's with that train kiss scene?! When she’s slowly crawling away and he’s just hovering over her, following her move for move... and the background music?? You will absolutely scream and be like WHAT IN THE WORLD??? It is so crazy and visually insane that you will definitely rewatch that specific scene more than once—I just know it hahahha! And the way he picks her up with just one hand all the time as if she weighs nothing? It’s dark-romance-coded perfection that makes you question your own standards .
and in (EPISODE - 10 ) again he literally threw her on bed with just one hand . That was kinda umm😭 it felt as if he slammed her onto the bed to wrestle with her or he had some grudges😭. But ok i'll stop here, i won't spoil more scenes just yet .

Last but not the least, Is it cheesy? Yes. Is it unbelievable? Yes. Am I watching it again? HELL YESSSS . Bcuz at the end of the day, I’m here for the entertainment, and Affinity is delivering exactly the kind of wild, addictive fun I didn't know I was missing.

So, would I recommend it? ABSOLUTELY. Just a fair warning: you’ll need to throw away the logic and switch off your brain to fully appreciate the chaos of this wild ride .
All in all it’s an 8.5/10 ( unbiased - 8 ; +0.5 bcuz its my first short drama and i enjoyed it ) that feels like a 10/10 when the leads are on screen together.

Thanks for reading! ♥︎♥︎♥︎

Expectation =Trashy romance! Reality= SUPER ADDICTIVE trashy romance

If you have seen those mini cdramas, its like that BUT A LOT BETTER.
Its a bizarre wattpad romance THAT PULLS YOU IN makes you binge watch the whole darn thing in one setting.
These are the kind of dramas where you become blind to logic, writing, editing...almost everything and watch for the feels! I never thought i would like it. I never thought I would lift my finger to write a review for something like this and yet, here I am.
Its a GUILTY PLEASURE 10/10 .
Also, I ama not embarrassed to say that I am waiting for season 2

Crazy, Seductive, Genre-Blending Fun

Rules for watching Affinity:

#1 - Don’t Take It Too Seriously
This short drama throws together every genre under the sun (romance, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and more) into one juicy, addictive blend. This is junk food TV — just binge and enjoy.

#2 - Enjoy the Kissing Scenes
It certainly seems like the actors are — or at least, they’re very committed to their roles and not holding back in the physicality department (not that we’re complaining).

The hugging/kissing sequence in ep. 16 is so intense that I felt like falling off my chair just like Nong Yu. Goodness gracious, it’s like Xin Xu is trying to absorb or inhale her. Cui Yu Xin plays his desperate, barely controlled, obsessive male lead to perfection.

#3 - Embrace the Nonsense
Does any of the plot, world-building, or sequence of events make sense? Not really. The structure sometimes feels like someone threw a bunch of creative writing prompt cards on the table and said, "Here's our story outline!". But it’s wildly unpredictable and weird and silly, and that’s part of the fun.

I’ve noticed that short-length web series often focus on style over substance — light on the character development and plot, leaning on actors’ good looks and chemistry to keep viewers interested. This approach doesn't always work, but "Affinity" manages to pull it off. What plot there is is strangely compelling (dabbling in topics like genetic experimentation and shadowy government organizations), and the chemistry is so sizzling that you’ll want to stick around to see what’s next.

At the halfway point (ep. 20), I’m hooked and waiting to see where all of this is going. The synopsis doesn’t even begin to capture the craziness that is this drama; you just have to experience it for yourself.

UPDATE after finishing the series:

The second half doesn’t have nearly the same spark and breakneck pace, but the emotional journey of the characters is easy to get invested in, and we do get a happy (and suitably wacky) ending.

What works:

– The leads. Their chemistry is undeniable, but let’s be clear: it’s not a healthy or equal relationship for the majority of the series. But the genetic compatibility angle adds an interesting layer to their dynamic and at least explains (but doesn’t excuse) the male lead’s bad behavior. He starts out as someone who’s unable to experience emotions, but his deep connection with the female lead unlocks feelings he’s never had before. On top of that, they need each other for survival, which gives their intense, magnetic attraction a narrative purpose.

– Cui Yu Xin’s performance. CYX’s role as Xin Xu elevates the show from a campy time-waster to something that’s compulsively watchable, and I don’t think it would work without him. His character has more depth than what you’d expect at first glance, and it’s fascinating watching his expressions shift over the course of the series from lifeless, to like a beast stalking its prey, to tender and adoring and vulnerable. The scenes that depict his emotional awakening — like crying for the first time — are quite touching. He’s a versatile and expressive actor.

– The soundtrack. There are several memorable songs that are intense and moody and really enhance what’s happening onscreen (although there are also some odd selections).

What could be better:

– I wish Fang Jin’s female lead had more to do than react with wide-eyed fear to all the chaos. More often than not, her character seems more like a foil to the male lead without the same level of agency or nuance. There are hints that she’s supposed to be super smart, but we rarely get to see that. Both leads are immature and impulsive in different ways, and while emotional growth is a theme in the drama, Nong Yu doesn’t get nearly as compelling a character arc as Xin Xu in this area.

The show is pretty ridiculous at face value, but I’m rating it on its own scale with bonus points for novelty and just how oddly entertaining it is. I would put the first half at about an 8.5 and the second at more like a 7.

Sparkly Hot series, all wrapped in a science-fiction pastiche style . Adictive

I rarely watch miniseries. But here, the director presents something truly fresh — instead of using familiar clichés that have already run out. It’s a consciously playful pastiche that charms precisely because of it, offering a true kaleidoscope of styles: each pastiche is explored over two episodes, enhancing the sense of variety and rhythm. The pacing is dynamic, a whirlwind of ideas presented quickly, without lingering on details— likely dictated by technical and budgetary constraints. In the end, the result is thoroughly satisfying, blending emotional depth, and this pastiche style.

ACTING:
The leading lady perfectly complements the male character, creating incredible chemistry. The supporting roles are played decently, but special mention must go to the lead actor Cui Yu Xin— he performs the role subtly, without overacting. He embodies both emotional depth and passion, doing all the “heavy lifting” on that front.

ANALYSE:
From the passionate scenes at the beginning to the almost calming, restrained finale, the author traces what seems like the very trajectory of love. At first, the romantic bond is driven by lust, raw desire, and subtle power struggles, where possession and domination overshadow genuine intimacy. But as the narrative develops, love gradually turns into something — based on acceptance, mutual recognition, and respect. Thus, the work shows that true emotional satisfaction is not in excess or sensory intoxication, but in simpler and more balanced relationships.

Beyond surface-level fantasies, the series offers several precise critical observations. It exposes the cynicism of the pharmaceutical industry through a character who produces dangerous “vaccines” while simultaneously hiding real medicines to protect power and profit. At the same time, Yin’s claim of moral and emotional superiority is dismantled: considered “normal,” they repeatedly display domination and a striking lack of empathy. In contrast, the Ren — considered emotionally deficient — are shown as capable of genuine love, loyalty, and selflessness. The brother’s act, tainted by enforced submission, and his subsequent suicide emphasize the bleak conclusion: emotional emptiness is not with the Ren, but with the Yin, who remain unable to face vulnerability or love. But there are some who will succeed in the end.

VISUALS:
Visually, the series resembles a joyful mix of Dune, Inception, Game of Thrones, a pinch of Western, Contagion, horor Films — as if each source of influence gets its own two episodes 😆 suspect that part of this chaos was generated by AI, including in the post-production

MUSIC:
Like the series, which evokes a chaos of multiple films, the music is the same: effective, dynamic, a kaleidoscope of styles — from Erik Satie and Beethoven to Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ re-adapted, and even excerpts from Twilight, horor film From Beyond, Castle Freak …

OVERALL
Overall, the relatively low censorship allows the series to take bold experiments, doing what mainstream projects rarely dare to do. Unlike A-list films, where actors are often more concerned with perfect looks, staged shots, or advertising than with performance, this series feels daring and alive.

Cui Yu Xin delivers one of the strongest roles of the year in Chinese C-DRAMA (2026) — for me, it was an excellent discovery.

Chaotic nonsense I loved

I loved it. It's hard to say why, but I eagerly waited for every episode.

The plot was chaotic. I had the feeling they brainstormed weird ideas and never made a choice but used them all, throwing together whatever they came up with.
Strangely, it worked!

The storyline didn't really make sense. Things happened, just because.
One example: Wen you think you understood, suddenly a dragon - a western dragon - appears. Why? We won't know. What exactly is this bond shared between the ren and their pets? We won't learn much about it, but it's strong. Why and how did they force the ML into the bond? Not important. What happens to the dragon? Well, it's somewhere. Does it add to the plot? Not in the slighest. But we have a dragon!

The chemistry between all leads, on the other hand, is fire!
Both ML are awesome, their relationship is what I loved the most, their suppressed hate and grudges, that part was truly good. And their respective smirks, I could watch them smirk all day long.
The FL had great chemistry with all of them but in the end I just wanted to slap her. Why wouldn't she accept XXX? With all her brother put him through?

The OST was just as strange. Between really good and not at all adapted to the scenes, childish one second, sensual the next, it was just as the whole plot.

Special mention goes to the kissing-scenes. It must be the short-drama with the most kissing-scenes.

So is it a "good drama"? I wouldn't say that.
Is it worth watching? Absolutely. You'll love it!

Yep it’s from 2051 explains a lot!!!!?

I unexpectedly fail into a trap which l failed to escape till the end! Be warned that this drama is not everyone’s cup of tea as its level of messy is unmatched. If you are up for “down to business” type of drama this one’s not it! I hate to admit that this was the first short Cdrama l was genuinely curious about each following episode till the end because it got crazier and unpredictable as it progressed 😂😭 l finished it not for the sake of finishing it but out of curiosity of what more the directors had in store for us🤣

Are you looking for an episode filler? Start watching Affinity!
Are you looking for something chaotic enough to escape the reality of life? Start watching Affinity!
Are you looking for something unserious to while up time? Start watching Affinity!!
Are you looking for something with a touch of cuteness and a fair share of cringey content. Well, start watching Affinity!
Are you at a point of questioning whether you are sane or not? Start watching Affinity!
Are you looking for something crazy enough to make you roll your eyes now and again? Start watching Affinity!
Are you looking for something that will make you question what you are watching? Start watching Affinity!

I honestly don’t know how l remained hooked onto this short drama for the whole period it was airing!! At times l would even question if the directors thought the viewers are a joke!😂
If you are up for a drama with a deep plot and life changing storyline, this isn’t the drama for you.

Once you embark on the journey to watch this show, put aside high reasoning capacity and logic just go with the flow and enjoy whatever it is you will find before you. That being said, l truly applaud the actors and actresses for portraying their roles so well regardless of the questionable and chaotic storyline. Well, fortunately you will eventually pick the message and story they tried to convey through all the dramatic scenes.

Anyway, that closing song will stick in my head for a while!

Finding Helium Thru Endless Pandemonium

I genuinely had no clue what I’d just signed up for, but I was locked in from start to finish. The CHEMISTRY was eating — and yes, full pun intended.

Plot-wise? Wild in the best way. One minute you’re grounded, the next you’re hopping across realms (literally) and suddenly dabbling in a whole new genre like it’s nothing. It shouldn’t work… but it does (
i guess?). Somehow the story keeps stitching everything together so the madness feels less mad.

It’s the kind of drama that doesn’t try to stay in one lane — and that’s exactly why it works.

A steamy guideverse with a hot psycopath that makes all your dreams come true

Review after watching the 10 episodes that are available:

The story? At first it was good, but now we already have another subplot and i feel we will get many more. Too much action around this plot, i wish he could focus more on the relationship between the leads.

The leads? Chef's kiss. I love the ML to death. Literally. He plays psycho like no other, i even recorded the arrest scene to watch when im ovulating. The FL is ok, i've seen her in other dramas i know shes good in steamy scenes. I don't like her hair though?

The songs? Masterpiece. BUT I SAW ON YOUKO YOUTUBE THE KISSES WITHOUT THE SONGS ND LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING - it reminds me of thai bl uncut. Maybe even better cause they moan even sexier.

I've lost count to how many times i've rewatched episode 1 for the first and last scene, episode 6 for the kisses and episode 7 for the hm.. feast ;) if ykyk

also i appreciate the guideverse universe (with an personal twist of making it a virus/affinities). omegaverse we already had and probablh in the future there will be many more, but this is the first guideverse (i think) and sincerely? it did not dissapoint from this point of view. the only downside is they force too much action in the drama :/

Round-Robin Fever Dream

First thing to know about this show is that it watches like a fever dream on drugs. Only a few episodes in and the leading theory I personally had was that the ONLY way this show could have been created was if it was a Round Robin writing experiment. This means that the plot constantly changes as it shifts from one seemly random aspect to another, adding bits of parodies and homages of other works here and there. As such, the drama excels at being:

• Fast paced
• Unpredictable
• A mash-up of genres from comedy to horror to wild-west and dark fantasy
• Full of cliffhangers

The music in this drama was a rollercoaster in itself. One minute your listening to a "definitely not" version of Toxic by Brittany Spears, then you're watching a scene with a country-esque song and later you're listening to lullabies and Christmas jingles. The music is varied and shifts along with the various tones.

Because the premise relies on two parties of the opposite sex of opposite strains of virus forming a Pact, this show is also high on the level of intimacy scenes... definitely more than many shows out there currently, despite leaving the audience asking for 'more'.

If there is an issue with the show from a top down perspective, I feel it's that while there is visible character growth from the Male Lead Xie Xinxu, there isn't really any from the female lead Wu Nongyu. She begins the show with one goal in mind, she ends the show with the same goal in mind, all her steps within her relationship with XXX are stagnant steps that have her dragged along. It's a case of "her mouth says one thing but she constantly does another thing". Later plot developments become inevitable and the ending feels out of character.

Ultimately this was a very fun show where even some of the most random plot points were given answers by the final episode. It had a lot of thought and detail tying it together, but at the same time personal experiences are going to be the ultimate determining factors on how the show is viewed. If someone hates seeing "rough kisses" or "manhandling" for instance, this show won't be for them. If someone identifies more with the FL and her feelings then the ending of the show will work more for them than those who identify more with the ML and his feelings.

Final Rating:
Biased: 9/10
Unbiased: 8/10

There is a reason this drama is so widely talked about and becoming a hit. It’s bold, emotional, and unforgettable, and it is absolutely worth watching! I didn’t expect much going in, but somewhere along the way, I fell hard!! If you’re even slightly curious, I really recommend watching and letting it draw you in. Go in with an open mind. That initial leap of faith pays off more than you’d expect.

I started Affinity purely because of the hype, the so-called insane chemistry and sheer curiosity about what everyone kept calling a completely nonsensical, ridiculous plot. What surprised me most was how genuinely complex and intriguing the story became as it unfolded. I actually really enjoyed the creative, wild plot!! Yes, the sci-fi elements are wildly over the top at times, unapologetically so, but that’s also what makes it brilliant. It’s set on an alien, Earth-like planet, so it fully embraces the freedom to do whatever it wants, and somehow it works. The world-building is clever, bold, and creative in a way that kept pulling me in deeper. Hats off to the writers and the lead actor and actress as they truly captivated me and pulled it off with the roller coaster of emotions!!

The leads' relationship isn’t built on shallow sexual tension as some media may suggest. It slowly, deliberately grows into something romantic, sweet, and deeply emotional. Watching their bond develop felt incredibly earned. The confession scene, when she finally realizes that he truly loves her, is actually one of the best I’ve seen. It hit hard and is ohhh sooo swoon worthy. The ML starts off as the ultimate toxic, cold, brutal, emotionally shut-down male lead, and through her, he learns what emotions are, what love costs, and what it means to have something to lose.
He really grows and becomes someone who truly respects her, appreciates her, and works together with her and supports her goal, which looking back is what she said she wants in a partner in the earlier episodes!! :')

My only real wish is that Affinity had been a full-length drama with simply more time with the leads. Their love is just so so so magnetic, sweet and sexy!! I would have loved to see even more of their love, their growth, and their life together. I also wish we had more room to explore the brothers’ love story as well. He was starting to grow on me.

Affinity is so unique and creative that it genuinely stays with you. I know this is one I’ll carry in my heart, it stood out from the rest in a way I didn’t expect at all.

Light Spoilers below:

Even the breakup in the middle parts was done beautifully. Painful and so compelling. I could understand both of them completely and why the separation was necessary. The way their conflict evolved from anger, to hatred, to force, and finally to quiet, devastating acceptance felt painfully real. Their last night together was heartbreaking and tender all at once, sad, intimate, and unforgettable.
Their reunion years later was absolutely aching. The actors captured every ounce of longing, regret, guilt, and enduring love. I could feel his heartache, the weight of what he lost and how deeply he still loved her. And it felt so natural how she eventually let him back in, because it was clear she never stopped loving him either. There was no rush, no cheap forgiveness, just emotional honesty.
The ending itself was such a clever twist. I was genuinely worried it might go tragic, but instead it wrapped everything up beautifully with a happy ending they both truly deserved. This was truly an enjoyable and rewarding ride!

unhinged

this is very very very unhinged and has little logic. To be honest, i saw the train scene on X and I felt like i had to know how that came to be jajaja

You need to turn off your brain and just enjoy the ride in order to enjoy it.

I have to say it gives very grape vibes, my man is eating her up like she's the last drop of water in a desert, like he needs her to survive (he kind of does?) and he doesnt care that much if she's into it or not, at least in the beginning.

When they start to get cute it gets very very good imo, but then that's when everything goes to shit again, and this loses the quality it had. Around ep 26 it begins to be kinda too bad, idk if it's because i binge watched the first 20eps and the last 20s time gave me perspective or something but i feel like the story made even less sense and kind of lost me.

Like I feel this would be a 8 for me for the first 26 ep, but how the story ends and how this is more like a guilty pleasure not really a drama I'll remember and want to revisit years to come, so i think its more fair to put this around a 6.
