Comical genius

When a friend of mine showed me this drama and told me it was one of the best she's seen, I had major doubts but decided it was worth a shot.

I did not know what I was in for. I expected it to be some half-assed, low-budget short drama with most of the worst clichés dramaworld has to offer us but BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

I laughed so hard I almost coughed up my lungs while watching the first episode. The insanity of it all made the illogical become logical and everything happened on such a fast-paced setting it had me turned upside down and giggling underneath my desk.
Everything I thought this drama would be went right out the door. There hasn't been an episode where I didn't cry from laughter or couldn't catch my breath because of it.

Let me remind you now that this drama is not listed as a comical drama. It's not even trying to be funny but it's hilarious. Most of it seems like the writers were on drugs while coming up with certain plotlines. We went from a high-scale chase with futuristic elements to a forests with a mystical fog that lets our main characters visit each other's dreamworlds, to a wild-west with cowboys. We went from a weird octopus creature to a freaking DRAGON that supposedly hidden within a busy city.
None of it actually made sense but it worked perfectly into the humor of it all.

The drama tells the story of a world far away where the Affinity Virus wreaks havoc on the humans. If you're affected by the A virus, you'll have to find a partner with the B virus in order to survive. Someone with a B virus infection can be emotionless and psychotic and can go beserker mode unless they find someone with the A virus who is able to calm them down. As long as they have each other, they can live as if non-infected.
Our female lead, Nongyu, is infected with the A virus (a so-called Yin) and stands witness to the arrest of a murderer who is infected by the B virus (a so-called Ren) and went psycho on his parents, killing them in the process. Years later she comes face-to-face with him again and finds out he's been waiting for her. He wants her to become his partner and will stop at nothing to make sure that happens.

Do I recommend this drama? Hell yes! It was such fun to watch and it did bring out some notes of seriousness amongst the insanity of its plotlines. It's low budget but still very well made. The actors tried their best with the script and brought out some of the best acting eventhough most of it made me cry from laughter. It is, like my friend said, one of the best I've seen (if you consider it a comical drama and don't take it too seriously).

Short Drama, Not at all Expecting

I started watching this drama cause of the actors. MAN, I was hooked from the bat. So much going on but done so well, this is one of the better short dramas I have watched. I felt the acting was spot on & I could actually see this show as a parallel to werewolf romance stories, where they have mates, etc.

Loved how much intensity that the ML put into his part, he really sold it. I believe this is one of the few dramas of his I have watched & let me tell you, he definitely has a new fan. The FL did as much work as the ML, I felt like her character was more grounding for him & his anchor to reality. Supporting cast was amazing as well.

I was a little confused at the beginning of one of the episodes because somehow it started on earth & then all of a sudden went back to the story. That got cleared up in the last episode because she was asking for help from different planets that held life & hopefully could send them the "cure".
Also confused why certain Red were bonded with animals. I felt that it could have gone in more depth or they could have explained that better.

I definitely can't tell you how much this is on my rewatch list, but it definitely has made it. I never say anything is perfect because there is always something trying to overachieve perfection. This show was definitely close in my opinion, hence the rating.

Affinity… or Infinite Pain?

The main reason to watch is the chemistry between the two leads. Early on, everything clicked: even when the plot stretched believability, it still had structure and coherence I actually rated it a 10 at that point.

After episode 19, though, the pacing completely falls apart. The story drags, wanders in every direction, and loses its consistency. The FL and her brother are insufferable from start to finish, and the dynamic between her and the male lead feels unbalanced and unhealthy, with him constantly carrying the emotional weight of her actions.

What bothered me the most is that, by the end, you almost stop rooting for the relationship and just start feeling sorry for the ML. Because of the virus and his past experiences, there’s a clear power imbalance between him and the FL, and it often feels like she takes advantage of it, which makes their dynamic increasingly uncomfortable to watch.

That said, it remains surprisingly entertaining and oddly addictive for quite a while you always want to see what happens next. But by the final stretch, that curiosity had worn off, and I mostly just wanted it to end.

Unfortunately, I ended up quite disappointed, especially considering how strong the cast was and how remarkable the OSTs are...

Kissfinity

First reason to watch this...Cui Yu Xin...He's steamingly hot since I watched him on Liars In Love.
Second reason to watch....if you're so into hot kisses...just dive in.

Other reasons: none. I am definitely not a fan of Dystopian trope dramas. I never watched The Hunger GAmes, Divergent, Insurgent or even Squid Game. If you're into these kind of things, well, congratulations! you're so in for the ride.

I basically shut off my brain just to enjoy the kisses and seeing Cui. I honestly didn't enjoy lots of things here, like falling off from very high places without breaking a leg. Having a dragon as your ride. A pool battle with an octopus. Even the death of the FL's brother made the story more complicated given those time travels using your dreams. Like, WTH.

To add more, the sound track, like, did they pay royalty to Britney to use Toxic with their own version? Even the song All The Things You Said was used which they gave a different arrangement and lyrics. but, you can clearly hear they used these songs.
The girl who's singing the main track sounds like BOA.

I'm not a fan of the FL. Have seen her in Embrace In The Dark Night. Still that timid acting. She was good at kissing though.
Yes, the kisses were good...but, that's it! They were all just kissing. I was hoping for more intimacy and steamy scenes in bed. Oh well, they'll just entice you to it and then you'll see nothing just the ML lying top naked.

Overall, it's just a 7.5 for me. The kisses were good, specially that train kiss scene and all the cuddles. But, that's it. It has nothing more to offer. the plot is all over the place. And yes, that title is just a drug that I didn't even understand what it's for. Even those viruses that will just make you want to exchange saliva with another.

Still love Cui Yu Xin and will look forward to more of his dramas. Hope he gets a good full lenght drama next time.

Lastly, 40 eps is too long for a crap story plot. 24 will be just enough I guess.

Wild, Addictive, and Surprisingly Emotional

Sci Fi, Passion, and an Unexpectedly Deep Love

Affinity belongs to that rare, chaotic, wildly creative corner of C drama romance that people jokingly call the “crazy but addictive” genre, and honestly, it sits right at the top of it. It is bold, emotional, visually stylish, and completely unafraid to abandon realism in favor of imagination. From the very first episodes, the drama announces that logic is not its priority. Feeling, atmosphere, tension, romance, and surprise are. And somehow, instead of falling apart, everything comes together in a way that keeps pulling you deeper.

What surprised me most is how complex the story actually becomes. On the surface, Affinity looks like pure madness with sci fi elements, action, romance, and twists thrown together. But as it unfolds, the world building starts to make sense emotionally. It is set on an alien, Earth like planet, and because of that, the drama fully embraces creative freedom. The writers do not limit themselves, and instead build a strange but fascinating universe where danger, desire, power, and love constantly collide. The plot keeps surprising you, sometimes in ridiculous ways, sometimes in emotional ones, but it never feels boring.

The production is stylish and immersive. The OST and background music elevate every scene, the visuals are attractive, and the action sequences are well placed so that every episode feels dynamic. There is always something happening. Whether it is fighting, escaping, emotional confrontation, or quiet tension between the leads, Affinity keeps momentum. Even the special effects, while not perfect, work well enough to sell the atmosphere of this strange world.

What truly carries the drama, though, is the relationship between the leads. Despite what some people might expect, their romance is not built purely on physical attraction. It grows slowly and deliberately into something romantic, emotional, and deeply meaningful. The confession scene is one of the strongest moments in the drama. When the female lead finally realizes that the male lead truly loves her, it hits hard and feels earned.

The male lead starts off as cold, brutal, emotionally closed off, and almost frightening. He is the type of character who believes feelings are weaknesses. Through the female lead, he learns what emotions are, what love costs, and what it means to care about something more than power or survival. His growth is one of the most satisfying parts of the drama. By the end, he is no longer just protecting her. He respects her, supports her goals, and stands beside her as a partner, exactly what she said she wanted earlier in the story.

The breakup arc in the middle is another highlight. Technically there is a separation, but it never feels cheap or pointless. It is forced by circumstances, not by lost feelings. Their conflict evolves naturally from anger, to resentment, to painful acceptance. Their last night together is heartbreaking, intimate, and unforgettable. It is one of those scenes that stays with you because it feels emotionally honest instead of melodramatic.

The reunion years later is just as powerful. The actors portray longing, guilt, regret, and enduring love beautifully. You can feel how much time and pain sits between them. The way she lets him back in feels natural, not rushed. There is no instant forgiveness, only quiet understanding and emotional truth. It makes their happy ending feel deserved instead of forced.

I also wish Affinity had been a full length drama. The chemistry between the leads is magnetic, sweet, and intense, and I would have loved even more time with their relationship, growth, and life together. Their love story feels big enough to deserve more space.

Something people do not talk about enough is the second lead couple and the female lead’s brother. His character is morally grey, complicated, and surprisingly touching. His relationship with the second female lead is layered and emotional, and even his death is not brushed aside. The drama allows the weight of it to exist, which makes the story feel richer and more mature. The supporting characters are not just decorations. They add emotional depth and parallel struggles that make the main story stronger.

Affinity is not a drama you watch for realism. It is a drama you watch for creativity, emotion, atmosphere, romance, and bold storytelling. It is strange, messy, intense, sexy, painful, and beautiful all at once. It takes risks, and most of them pay off.

I started this drama because of the hype and curiosity, and I did not expect to fall so hard for it. By the end, Affinity stayed with me emotionally. It stands out in a way most dramas do not. It is chaotic, imaginative, heartfelt, and unforgettable. If you go in with an open mind, it becomes a surprisingly rewarding ride.

BEST ALCHEMY in the world ahah

Honestly, this drama deserves much more exposure from international fans because it was a real hit in China! Sure, you could criticize the visual effects, which are sometimes very artificial, but overall, you have to take a step back, be honest about the budget and effort put into this multifaceted drama! Because I felt like I experienced so many different themes!! That makes it the most original drama in its genre I've ever seen! Not to mention the chemistry, it's also the best I've ever seen in a drama, even a "K-drama." AFFINITY isn't just a mini-drama; it's a true immersion with quality acting and a well-crafted story.

Long live AFFINITY! The cast and Youku did a superb job!

SCIENCE MEETS OBSESSION

The story is set in a future world (2051) and explores a 'genetic mystery'. Wu Nongyu, a gentle graduate student in genetic engineering, crosses paths with Xie Xinxu, a brilliant but emotionally detached man with antisocial tendencies. Their connection is driven by 'genetic compatibility' or a 'biological affinity' so strong it challenges logic. Xie Xinxu, who lacks empathy, essentially 'hunts' Wu Nongyu, guiding her into his world while they navigate a perilous journey involving hidden research facilities and 'affinity inhibitors'.

The most praised aspect of the drama is the 'feral' chemistry between the leads. Many viewers note the high level of 'skinship' and steamy scenes that push the boundaries of typical C-drama censorship. Cui Yuxin's portrayal of Xie Xinxu as a 'walking red flag' who slowly learns human emotion has won over many fans. The show blends tropes like 'Omegaverse' ( Alpha/Omega dynamics), "Esper-guide', and the dark romance with a 'Resident Evil'-style sci-fi backdrop. With episodes lasting only a few minutes, it delivers major plot points and emotional payoffs every 15-18 minutes.

However, critics describe the plot as a '1000 foot drop in logic' and a 'fever dream'. You often have to 'turn off your brain cells' to enjoy the erratic storytelling. While the camera quality is good, the CGI is frequently criticized as looking like a 'school videography project', including a bizarre scene involving an orange octopus. Also, the tone can jump from a life-or-death thriller to slapstick comedy within minutes, causing 'emotional whiplash'.

In conclusion, if you overlook the questionable CGI and a plot that defies physics, it offers some of the most intense chemistry and creative world-building seen in the 2026 short-form drama market

2/10 Storyline, 10/10 Chemistry

If you're watching this for the storyline and plot, you will be left very confused. The leads chemistry and passion makes up for it though.. I guess. There are so many inconsistency with the filming and you can tell it's very low budget, but the kissing is 10/10. There are some issues with consent with this show though, so trigger warning for that.

im not spoiling,just watch, Opening ?? /Ending ??

If you are searching for a romance drama mainly for romantic tension and kiss scenes, then this drama might be a good choice for you. From the very beginning, the chemistry between the main couple feels intense. Their eye contact, body language, and emotional moments make it look like they are real lovers, not just actors following a script. Some scenes feel so natural that you may forget you are watching a drama.

Things really start to heat up after episode 6. From that point onward, the drama becomes full of romantic moments. Honestly, almost every episode has at least one kiss scene. And yes… this continues all the way until episode 40 😍🤭. If you enjoy romance-focused dramas with bold and frequent intimate scenes, this one definitely delivers in that department.

Before watching, one important tip: use a headset 🎧😂. Some scenes are a bit intense, and the background sounds and dialogue can be awkward to hear on speakers, especially if you’re not alone. Consider this your friendly warning!

However, while the romance and physical chemistry are strong, the story itself is very weak. The plot doesn’t make much sense, character development is poor, and many situations feel unrealistic or repetitive. If you are someone who values a deep storyline, meaningful emotions, or smart writing, you may feel disappointed. At times, it feels like the drama depends only on kiss scenes to keep viewers interested, instead of building a solid narrative.

So, to be honest, this drama is not for story lovers. But if your main goal is to watch a romance drama filled with tension, skinship, and nonstop kiss scenes, then you might still enjoy it. Just don’t expect a great plot—watch it for fun, not for quality storytelling 😅.

skipmode

I watched the whole drama mostly in skip mode, and honestly, it often felt like a loop of intense breathing scenes and forced kissing contests. The romantic tension was pushed so heavily that it started to feel repetitive rather than emotionally meaningful. Instead of building natural chemistry, many scenes seemed exaggerated and unnecessarily prolonged.

That said, the core concept of the Affinity Virus—especially the Yin & Ren dynamic—is genuinely interesting. The idea behind the biological and emotional bond has a lot of potential, and it adds a unique twist to the usual romance setup. The conflict created by this situation could have been explored in a much deeper and more psychological way.

Unfortunately, the production didn’t fully deliver on that potential. The storytelling sometimes lacked depth, and the pacing felt uneven. With stronger writing, tighter editing, and more focus on character development rather than physical tension, this drama could have been much more impactful.

Overall, Affinity had an intriguing premise, but the execution didn’t quite match the ambition of its concept.

Spoiled Stinky Cheese

Let's start with the poster. Bad design. Makes the show look stupid. Which, it actually is stupid. It's just a bad production with a dumb plot. It doesn't even know who it's audience is. We don't mind bad so much if the visuals are worth the time. They are not. This show isn't cheese. It's awful. Like it doesn't quite know what it wants to be. The sound effects for the kissing is sloppy, like literally sounds like wet sloppy licking and slurping. Bleh! And really who wants to watch forced intimacy? No one. The FL is supposed to be training at a science facility, but comes off as having fluff for brains. Like she can't even remember simple world building info that she is supposed to know. Not to mention the dumb stuff they have her do like "climb" down a rope in a mini skirt that magically doesn't bunch up and show anything. As if it isn't obvious she's being lowered by invisible cables. This is time wasted.

Wait a minute

“Affinity” is a senseless drama with no clear direction, but it still has something worth watching. If you enjoy intense love stories filled with romantic scenes that give you goosebumps, this drama might be for you. The story itself is illogical, but the acting is top-notch—especially the male lead. I watched it till the end mainly because of the intense love story and the chemistry between the leads.
By “intense scenes,” I don’t mean bold scenes. It’s a deeply romantic love story with many kissing scenes that highlight emotional intensity rather than explicit content.
