culinary class wars + solo leveling
If Culinary Class Wars and Solo Leveling got drafted in the military, it would be this. Solid adaptation with perfect casting and pacing to top it off. Seong-jae’s journey from an ordinary recruit to a legendary military cook is incredibly satisfying to watch, with progression that feels genuinely earned not rushed. Filled with with kitchen sequences guaranteed to make you hungry. The perfect mix of military life, comedy, mystery, and food with the main lead carrying every scene, an easy must watch for food and webtoon fans. Was this review helpful to you?
very funny and over the top!
i haven’t even finished the drama and i already want to leave a review. The drama is so over the top and I really needed something lighthearted such as this drama. It reminds me of sword art online and cooking mama.it’s lighthearted and easy to watch, with a touching backstory. I usually don’t look for BL or expect BL in a Korean drama. I think having a BL romance would have worked really well for this drama. but there is a sense of camaraderie, has a solid group of cast members. reminds me of an anime brought to life!!!

THAT OG KDRAMA HUMOUR IS BACK!!!!
Legend of the Kitchen Soldier is a comedy K-drama that's definitely worth checking out.The premise alone is captivating: a young man enlists in the military only to find himself working in the kitchen. But here's the twist – he starts seeing a game interface that gives him kitchen quests, recipes, and even abilities, turning him into the ultimate kitchen soldier. It's a fun idea, especially if you love game elements.
What really shines through is the food. As a food lover, watching the protagonist create and learn new recipes is a treat. But the real showstopper is the comedy. This show has that perfect sitcom-style humor – silly, genuinely well-written, and often surprising. It's the kind of comedy that makes you laugh out loud and wonder who even came up with it. The entire cast has fantastic comic timing, making every scene a delight.
Beyond the laughs, Legend of the Kitchen Soldier also manages to deliver moments of comfort and emotion, particularly through the male lead, Park Jihoon. His acting is incredible, especially his "eye acting," conveying so much emotion with just a glance. You really root for his character as he navigates loss, supports his family, discovers his passion for cooking, and finds friendship and a sense of belonging. Even the supporting characters are interesting and add to the overall enjoyment of the show. It's a great blend of comedy, heart, amazing acting, and delicious food shots.

I should probably eat right now.
At the moment I am hungry. Not only for food, but for more episodes of this drama. I'm a big fan of Park Jihoon so I decided to tune in when the cast was announced. This drama is a comedy, not too intense of a watch compared to Jihoon's other projects. And that's ok with me! I like watching actors do all sorts of different roles and projects, and Legend of the Kitchen Soldier is no different. It's fun to watch, but one thing I'll comment about Jihoon's characters is that 9/10 times the guy is going to play someone depressed. Even with that being the case here, it's not a dark drama, his character is likeable enough.
I'm not getting anything too stellar here. Everything pretty much delivers as it should.. it's neither too amazing.. definetely not bad at all though. It's pretty hard when I compare this to Jihoon's other dramas, Weak Hero is one of my favorite dramas ever. If you come for that, don't- come for a drama that's entertaining, fun, and makes you hungry. I was surprised with how they push the comedy, and only worry about tonal issues later on in the series if they bring up a deep plot point. I wish this would be more episodic like Trauma Code, but it's ok that it's not. Here this drama is standard, not doing anything new, but not offensive. So I'll say it's average and move on with it.
It's good enough I'm keeping up as it airs though! I'm just happy to be getting more projects from Jihoon.

So funny!
honestly didn’t expect Episode 1 of Legend of the Kitchen Soldier to be this entertaining 😭 I laughed out loud so many times because the comedy timing was genuinely good and the chaotic energy never felt forced. What made it even better for me was Park Ji-hoon. He played the role so naturally that every expression and reaction made the scenes even funnier and more lovable. You can already feel the charm of his character from the first episode alone.
The episode did a great job balancing comedy, character moments, and that slightly emotional undertone that makes you want to keep watching. Definitely hooked already.

Military Soup with XP Points
Becoming a Cooking Soldier Legend tries to mix military comedy, cooking drama, gamer fantasy, romance and supernatural mystery all at once… and never fully commits to any of them. The biggest problem is not the absurdity of the premise.
Absurd comedies can work perfectly.
The problem is that the series relies too much on gimmicks instead of personality.
Floating HUD screens, experience points, unlocked skills, mysterious crows, dramatic soup reactions… everything feels engineered to look quirky rather than naturally funny.
The main character could have worked much better as:
a rebellious but brilliant cook,
constantly breaking military rules while being tolerated because his food keeps morale alive inside the barracks.
That alone already had enough comedic potential.
Instead, the series turns him into a passive “chosen one” with videogame mechanics attached to his personality.
And yes, from episode 1 you can already predict the romantic setup:
the misunderstood outsider and the competent female commander who will slowly become the only person capable of understanding him.
Maybe some viewers will enjoy this type of light fantasy comfort show.
But personally, after two episodes, I could not find a strong enough reason to continue watching ten more.

A Strong Start for The Legend of Kitchen Soldier
I just watched the first episode of The Legend of Kitchen Soldier, and it already feels like a very promising series. The first episode does a great job of showing what the story will be about while still keeping things exciting and interesting. It has a strong beginning that immediately pulls you into the world of the drama. The cast looks amazing and the characters already feel fun and entertaining. One of the biggest surprises for me was Park Ji Hoon. He really shows a different side of himself in this drama compared to the more depressive or school-themed K-dramas he usually does. This feels like a real comeback series for him, and he fits the role perfectly so far.
The mix of action, emotion, and comedy worked really well in the first episode, and the cinematography also looked great. Even after only one episode, I’m already attached to the characters and curious about what will happen next.
I seriously can’t wait for the other episodes!
