Promising Beginning and End

I had started this drama before all the episodes had come out and I binged the first couple episodes. However, the plot started to drag at a certain point and there was too much focus on the love triangle and the second male lead. Truth be told, I didn't find that plot line to add a lot of value to the overarching story (it seemed like it was just needed for drama). I think there could have been other aspects the drama could explore and it seemed like a lot was packed into the final two episodes, almost as if they forgot they needed to cover all these things and needed to throw it all in at the last minute. The cast did a good job with what they were given, and the ending storyline was warm and fuzzy. Also, the child actor playing Woo Joo was really so adorable. However, there was definitely a lot that could have been done better though it's not a terrible drama if you go into it with no expectations.

I really dislike writing bad reviews, and honestly, it is very rare for me to rate a Korean drama badly because most K-dramas are genuinely enjoyable. After watching more than 200 dramas, I have only rated one drama extremely low before this one. But with *Our Universe*, I honestly do not even know where to start.

Every single episode made me want to drop the drama, and the only reason I finished it was because I felt so bad for the child who was constantly crying and asking for his mom. That little angel put so much emotion into his role that I stayed until the end just for him.

***The Biggest Problem: The Plot!!!!
.When you hear about a plot where the parents die and a small child is left behind, you naturally expect the drama to focus on the maternal aunt and paternal uncle coming together to raise him. You expect emotional moments, grief, struggles, bonding, and the difficulties of suddenly becoming guardians while also dealing with the loss of loved ones. Instead, the drama barely touches those emotions. Almost 88% of the drama focuses on the adults’ careers and love lives rather than the child and the emotional responsibility of raising him. The parenting scenes feel forced and unnatural, almost like the writers only inserted the child occasionally to remind viewers what the drama was supposed to be about.

I have seen American movies with this exact storyline where the emotional journey of caring for the surviving child becomes the heart of the story. But here, the drama completely lost its direction. It missed the biggest opportunity by focusing more on romance and career struggles instead of the actual emotional core.

**The Acting

The acting from both the female lead and male lead was not convincing, but the female lead’s performance stood out in a negative way immediately. When I watched the first episode, I genuinely thought she was a rookie actress, so I tried to excuse the awkward acting. But after searching her name, I discovered she already has many dramas in her career, which honestly shocked me. This is not meant as hate toward the actress personally, but I truly do not think this role suited her at all.
Her acting never felt natural or believable. None of her emotions felt convincing, and she constantly seemed disconnected from the rest of the cast. Everything felt fake; the coughing scenes, surprise reactions, emotional moments, confusion, nothing flowed naturally.
The best way I can explain it is this: Imagine listening to a beautiful song where everything sounds perfect, and suddenly someone who cannot sing starts singing loudly in the middle of it. You stop paying attention to the melody because you are too distracted by how out of place it feels. That is exactly how her acting felt throughout the drama.

Her eye contact felt awkward, her emotional delivery felt robotic, and her interactions with the child felt strangely cold. It often felt like she was acting in a completely different drama from everyone else.

** Lack of Chemistry

The chemistry between the female lead and male lead was almost nonexistent. When the male lead confessed in Episode 6, I was honestly more surprised than the female lead because I genuinely did not even think there was need to turn it romantic. The only emotion I could clearly notice was jealousy involving her first love. Beyond that, the romantic connection felt flat and forced. Their scenes together did not flow naturally, and emotionally they never convinced me as a couple. Although the male lead performed slightly better overall, but together they simply did not work.

**The Child Scenes

Ironically, the scenes with the child were actually some of the better moments in the drama because the child actor was adorable. However, even those scenes were filmed strangely. The drama puts excessive focus on tiny actions; like showing the child pulling the uncle’s pants and then suddenly cutting to another angle in an awkward way. The editing and scene flow often felt unnatural and over-constructed instead of emotionally immersive.
It almost felt like the production team spent more effort trying to capture every small movement of the child than building emotional depth around the scenes themselves. At times, the constant crying and emotional stress placed on the child also started feeling excessive. Some scenes would have worked better without the child. Also the child was literally being raised by the neighbours than his guardians.

** Production & Cinematic Feel

The overall cinematic quality felt dull and surprisingly low-budget considering how the drama was marketed. The emotional scenes lacked impact, the directing felt awkward at times, and many moments that should have been heartfelt instead felt artificial. Ironically, I honestly think I would enjoy watching the behind-the-scenes footage more than the actual drama itself.

** Final Thoughts

The final episode was probably the strongest one. When the baby was taken away, the female lead finally showed more believable emotions, and the ending montage was actually quite nice.
But unfortunately, one decent ending episode cannot save an entire drama that felt messy, emotionally disconnected, and poorly executed from beginning to end.
This drama had the potential to be deeply emotional and memorable, but instead it became frustrating, unfocused, and difficult to connect with , Maybe someone will like it but honeys this drama deserve 1/10 , the only reason I am rating it 3/10 is for the baby.

don’t expect much

I don’t think the female lead (FL) was the right actress for this drama. Personally, I’m not a fan of her performance here.

The plot started off well, but halfway through the story it completely lost direction. Then in the last two episodes they suddenly tried to bring everything back together, and it felt very forced. The romance especially didn’t work for me. In my opinion, it shouldn’t have happened at all, particularly when the FL spent almost the entire drama developing a connection with the second male lead (SML). Trying to resolve that in just two episodes felt rushed and unconvincing.

The story had a lot of potential, especially because it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a drama where a baby is such a central focus. Unfortunately, the writers didn’t seem to know what to do with that potential.

I also didn’t like how the drama constantly portrayed the FL as the victim in every situation, when the real victim was the child who lost his parents. Everything in the story seemed to revolve around her struggles, instead of focusing more on the child and his experience.

I only finished the drama because of the baby, who was absolutely adorable, and because of the uncle, who in my opinion was the closest thing the baby had to a real father figure.

Even by the final episode, the FL was still a mess in almost every aspect of her life, including as the baby’s primary caregiver.

only for the baby and samchon!!

My rating for Our Universe is 9/10, but honestly that score is mostly because of Samchon and baby Uju. Their scenes were the best part of the drama for me. Baby Uju is so adorable, and the moments between him and Samchon were very heartwarming and enjoyable to watch. They really carried the emotional and cute moments of the story.

However, I didn’t really like the female lead and the second male lead. Their storyline didn’t interest me as much, and I sometimes felt their scenes were less engaging compared to Samchon and Uju’s parts.

Overall, Samchon and Uju were the highlight of the drama and the main reason I enjoyed watching it. Without them, my rating probably wouldn’t be that high. ⭐

I like the drama.

The plot of the drama is fine. But people keep on complaining about sunbae. Honestly speaking, I'd also get a hard time choosing between the male lead and sunbae. Like he's literally perfect. Who wouldn't want such a man after you. Just that she takes her time to choose.
The female lead's acting is also fine. She's such a sweetheart.
I mean even if she's a red flag. It's what was scripted. Not her fault.
The male lead is also fine sh*t. He's cute and his acting is awosome. Plus the baby. Woo ju. He's sooooo cute like loads of cuteness. Anyways personally, I recommend the drama. It's a nice one. Heart warming

what a frustrating story!!!! FL is just the worst, both the character and the actress. I hate how she is so selfish and idiot to believe herself so much just because two people confessed to her. she is never thinking about the kid for god sakes! how does she dare to put another man into the kids life! even if you want to date him don’t bring just anybody to the kid!

the 2ML is controlling, nosy and mean to the top. I can’t believe the things he said to ML about his family being at fault if he was adopted too. he more than everyone should know that you don’t pick your family. it’s just too much to bear.

I think ML character was very well portrayed and written it’s a shame they wasted such a good story.

I literally just gave 7 because of the baby and ML, but I’m being very benevolent.

FAILURE

The Trailers were misleading.
This drama promised to offer something fresh and healing.
We all thought it would be about young people struggling to find themselves amid all the difficulties, their traumas and past, all while welcoming their nephew into their lives and becoming parental figures for him.
But it really wasn't.
The producer and writer really FLOPPED REALLY HARD.
Instead of giving a concrete drama with a decent storyline, they went for the short and made a stupid love triangle that NEVER ENDS.
I get that the FL rekindling with her past first love (SML) is part of the concept of ''navigating life as a young adult and finding herself'', but there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for it to last for 7+ episodes. The baby plot was buried, and they made the ML stay like an NPC who suffers for an average, stupid girl who can't set boundaries.

Don't waste your time on this mediocre drama.
Giving it a 1 because it's impossible to give 0.5 (Sorry baby Woojo, you were amazing, but that stupid Sunbae ruined the drama)

A Light Family Drama Carried by an Adorable Baby

If you are looking for a light and short family kind of drama then definitely give this a try.

I started the drama with no idea what it was about and had zero expectations. What initially drew me in was baby U Ju who is honestly just too cute to resist.

The main leads do have chemistry but I would not say it is overflowing. It feels moderate but enough to carry the show. One thing that felt a bit disappointing is that their romantic moments are quite limited. At times some of the side plots were stretched for too long which made it feel like the main leads were almost forgotten during those parts.

Still the overall vibe of the drama is warm and easy to watch especially if you enjoy family focused stories with wholesome moments.

A family oriented drama that lost its focus midway

The Good parts:
The drama starts pretty strong with a focus on the family dynamics of the characters. Beloved characters are introduced and a strong foundation for a story seems to be building. The struggles shown in the beginning episodes were pretty well done. Hyunjin feeling lost and disheveled after the loss of her only other family member (her sister) was conveyed quite good in my opinion. The mixed feelings of Taehyung after the loss of his estranged brother was also shown nicely. The trope of forced/unwilling cohabitation was introduced very smoothly as well. The bonding of the in-laws and their orphaned nephew was really cute to watch. Honestly the uncle-nephew duo really kept me going though I would also like to say that even though the aunt was seldom available for the child specially in first few episodes she had her cute bonding moments with Wooju as well.
Taehyung's character arc was amazing. A child who grew up in an orphanage with resentment towards his brother who he thought had abandoned him was portrayed beautifully. His initial disdain towards Wooju did feel horrible but was justified according to his character. Him slowly warming up to the baby was adorable to watch. The episode 9 was the hardest to watch as the reality of the circumstances was revealed to Taehyung and he had to relive all his past traumas, cry and face everything alone. Bae In-Hyuk portrayed the emotions of Taehyung pretty well. It is a shame to watch his talent be wasted on such a show.

-The Bad parts:
The writing. I don't think there is anything else to say here. I sincerely beg the writer to distribute the story to the episodes appropriately and stay focused on the initial plotline. This drama could have been such a cute and breath of fresh air but was destroyed for an unnecessary love triangle. The drama could have been a guide to raise babies/children as the two adults in Wooju's life confronted the hardships of childrearing but the writer had some very different plans. It honestly felt like someone else walked into the writer's room, held the writer hostage and wrote the mid section of the drama and the writer was only successful to regain control to write up the last 5-10 mins of 10th episode and the last two episodes. Or the writer developed some alternate personality during the middle of the drama. The difference is that jarring.
Introducing a love triangle where it made no sense as this drama was not really a rom-com. The character of Sunbae was borderline creepy. He was constantly overstepping the line and though the FL should have strictly put up a boundary, I could understand why she failed to do so. As, she not only had a past connection with the guy (her first love/crush), he was also her superior who was also the reason she got a permanent position at the company. The power trip that guy was on was disgusting to watch. This series do not have a villain but I would like to present my contender THE SUNBAE. Dude could be classified as a creepy stalker even. The other thing was his rudeness towards the ML for things ML couldn't even do anything about. The weird ownership he flaunted over the FL in front of ML made me want to punch his face. I have to give credit where its due no series have yet made me this riled up over a character as this one has.
I am not completely forgiving the lack of spine of the FL as she should have at least put up some boundaries as I have said before. The character seemed to relish in the constant attention from the two men, work husband and house husband. The shift in her focus from the child rearing to her love life was something to witness. A woman who was hellbent on raising her nephew no matter what was turned into brainless lovesick schoolgirl for no apparent reason. The lack of care she had for nephew during this time was insane to watch, I am not even going to bring up Taehyung here as both the writer and her character seemed to have their memories wiped that not only was he the part of the show but was suppose to be the MALE LEAD. Also the actress needs to learn acting a bit more she seems stone faced even in emotionally driving scenes. She only showed any kind of emotions in the final episode.

In conclusion, this drama would really test your patience and would really make you curse out multiple times which is insane as it was suppose to be a lighthearted family show. You would feel as if you are watching a completely different show in the middle of it. The saving grace was the last sequence in the show. It really tied up everything nicely. I feel like the writer wanted to compare the showy/kdramaesque romance scenes with SML and the calm day-to-day moments with the ML to show that true love isn't showy but rather quiet and calm, but I feel like I could be completely wrong and my first hypothesis might be more accurate.

My final advice skip the 6-8 episodes and watch parts of 9 and 10 episodes to save yourself from unnecessary wastage of time. Focus on the baby and the interactions of the baby that is it. The final words "It takes a village to raise a baby" really encapsulated the spirit of the last episode.

The Cute Baby & His Family Were Cute, Ex-Boyfriend Not So Much!!

The cutest baby ever bought a family together!!!

The first thing that you notice while watching this show is Seon Woo Joo. He is the cutest little baby to exist in existence. It would be nice if the entire show revolved around him and his adoptive parents, aka aunt & uncle. However, the story nudges an unwarranted third angle to add unnecessary drama to the script, and it turns a potboiler into collateral damage. Both protagonists have their own personal issues and struggles to overcome. While Seon Tae Hyeong has to deal with his childhood issue of abandonment, Woo Hyeon Jin feels hapless dealing with her unemployed status. In the middle of this predicament, they are forced into a situation where they have to co-parent their nephew. Hyeon Jin doesn’t mind becoming his guardian, but Tae Hyeong has always led a solitary life, and he finds it difficult to acclimatize to this new situation. This is their story, how they form a family unit while trying to become Woo Joo’s real parents.

"It takes a village to raise a child"

I got so frustrated with the love triangle that was (for me) really unnecessary for most of the drama (took more than half the serie); nonetheless, last episode made it all worth it for me.
Grief is different for everybody, but going through it while you also have to take care of a child when you never have...that's truly something. I liked how both main characters made the child their priority, and got the chance to heal, grow, and fall in love during that process.
The whole community around them, the family that they all ended up forming, was really beautiful to see. I think that was my favorite part of it all.
