So sweet and adorable!
This is such a sweet, soft, gentle, heart-warming and adorable romance series. I enjoyed every minute from the beginning till the end. The chemistry between the characters is so natural and amazing even though there are not really any intimate scenes. I also love every character in this series so much. All of them are beautiful human beings.OMG I need a season 2 asap! I need many seasons of the 2 couples. I need to see the wedding of Fumiko and Fukami, and more scenes about the future of all of the characters. 10 episodes are just too short!
Also, I noticed that in other dramas, usually only one person in a couple is adorable, and it’s often the girl. But in this drama, both of the leads are so just as lovely as each other! I love them so much.
I may write a longer review later.

A healing rom-com in a very interesting historical setting, with hints of sadness
This drama is centred around the romance between a Japanese navy officer and one of the daughter of a merchant in 1936. The Japanese era on which it focus as well as the gallery of loveable characters made it a very easy and soothing watch. I also loved the secondary characters, with them having both my fave relationship of the series, between each other as well as with the leads. The casting was great. Honda Kyoya and Yoshine Kyoko, as the main leads, have a fun chemistry and are oozing cuteness as their characters get to know each other, in a very charming and wholesome way. It's been a while I had not seen Honda Kyoya and he is such a dream in that role. Yoshine Kyoko is also bringing a lot into the drama, with some good comedic instincts without never feeling annoying.
I loved how detailed the costumes and decors surrounding the characters were. You really feel immersed in a different era of time. I also salute the choice of having an external narrator punctuating some scenes : for once, it made perfect sense. The OST was also super sweet with an adorable opening generic.
I would recommend this to people looking for a rom-com, in an historical context, providing room for deep thoughts, balanced between instants of happiness and hints of sadness as the heroine is confronted to the tough reality of being in love with a soldier. You go through the seasons with the characters, as they get to know each other : lovely !

Sweet Slow Burn
A young woman entered a marriage arranged by her parents with a man she'd never met. He was asea for their wedding ceremony; a photograph took his place. The drama detailed their slow adaptation to one another and the deep connection that gradually developed. This was a very sweet story about two people with tall walls who overthink internally. There were no villains except for that treacherous inner voice many of us have that comes to rob our peace.
The romance between the second leads was just as compelling, if not more. I didn't begrudge their time onscreen as I often do with secondary romances.
MDL doesn't have this listed under the "Comedy" genre. The over-reactions may seem out of place if the viewer isn't expecting a romcom, but this is firmly in that category.

ONE OF THE BEST JDRAMAS
I really love this drama so much. I just started watching japanese dramas/movies and so far this is one of the best even though I still haven't completed watching it since its still ongoing. I am very picky on watching jdramas since most of the people's recommendation are either too cringy for me to watch or had sad ending. The main problem of most japanese dramas I have watched is that they don't have that good script/flow thay made me want to drop it. Some have good plot but the execution and script is so bad. I don't have any problem of their exaggerated acting and such but if the execution of the plot and the script is good, then definitely its really worth it to watch.
However, this series is not the typical japanese drama at all. The plot is about arranged marriage, which is a very common genre, but the execution is so good! I am an avid manga reader and I can feel the manga vibes in it. I also want to praise the actors and actresses. Their expression are truly on point and I love how they can portray the comedic side of the series. The script too was very great. It was well executed and I love how a part can connect to another part of the story. You can see the cohesiveness of the story. Music-wise, its addicting. The OST got stuck in my head, like seriously. It really fits the drama.
One thing that made me also love the series is the pairing. I love the chemistry of the main couple. Their personalities is what made me want to watch more. The second couple too is very interesting. I can see their chemistry too and how well they match each other. You can totally see their chemistries even in simple things that they do in their everyday lives.
I was kind of reluctant to watch this since the era of when the story happened was kind of sensitive but I did not regret watching it. Though it was very sensitive, I kind of thought along the way I was watching it, that they are people, too. They also suffered, too, especially for those people who never wanted those things to happen in the past. There are families, who are scared to what could happen to their loved ones, especially those who worked in military. I felt sympathy. Greedy people are truly the ones to blame for every misfortunes that happened.
Overall, its definitely worth to watch! I also feel like this has happy ending. Its just a light and heart-warming drama. Hundred percent recommended!

A Calm Sea and Beautiful Days with You: Love in Unexpected Beginnings
🔹 What happens when two strangers begin life together with only a photograph as their bond?📕 Overview
🔹 This is a 10-episode Japanese historical romance adapted from the manga Nami Uraraka ni, Meoto Biyori by Nishiga Hachi.
🔹 Kyoko Yoshine plays Natsumi, the third daughter of the Sekiya family, who learns from her father that she is to marry a naval officer she has never met.
🔹 Kyoya Honda plays Takimasa Ebata, an officer in the Imperial Navy who cannot even attend his wedding because of training.
🔹 Their story, set in 1936, begins awkwardly but grows through meals, letters, and the details of daily life.
✍️ Storyline & Tone
🔹 For me, the drama felt heartfelt, with a slow development of the story rather than dramatic twists
🔹 Love shows up in the little things, like passing a dish, sharing a laugh, or sitting together in silence.
🔹 It reflected both the strict traditions of 1936 and the small hopes that slowly open between two people.
✨ Cast & Performances
🔹 Kyoko Yoshine gives Natsumi sincerity, making her journey believable.
🔹 Kyoya Honda captures Takimasa’s reserved personality.
🔹 The supporting cast, including Maika Yamamoto, Yuta Koseki, Rio Komiya, Junki Tozuka, and Emi Wakui, adds humor, family ties, and community.
🎶 OST
🔹 “Muchū” by BE: FIRST
🔹 Instrumentals by Yoshihei Ueda
🎞️ Production Style
🔹 Coastal landscapes and interiors reflect the naval atmosphere.
🔹 Costumes and uniforms from the 1930s looked authentic and helped the history feel alive.
☕ Tea Notes
🔹 Adapted from the manga by Hachi Nishiga, this drama moved me in the same way a good manga does. I gave it 10/10.
🔹 It shows that even marriages built on duty can become something heartfelt and lasting.
🔹Yes, I would rewatch it.
⭐ Final Rating: 10/10
✏️ As SpillTheDramaTea, this drama felt like sipping tea by the sea at sunset.

Very sweet
A lovely drama about two innocent souls falling in love slowly, this show sends me back in time of innocence.I love those type of pure love where you experience everything for the first time.
Cast was great, although I feel the FL looks slightly older than the ML, but both of them were great in their roles .
There is no annoying characters, no drama, no conspiracies or bad moments, the humour is subtle but entertaining.
Story is very simple and enjoyable, even side characters were nice and lovely.
if you like the old genre of pure love stories with everything focused on the two leads then this one is a gem you can't miss~~

Very heart-fluttering and cute love story.
Such innocent love from both of these two shy individuals who never had experience when it comes to romance/love. They are so cute and watching this was heart-warming, seeing each of them open and become somehow comfortable with each other. ML is so handsome and FL is so cute. Their awkwardness is pretty understandable given they are both inexperienced interacting with the opposite gender and they haven't spend much time together as couples because of ML's work.I can't wait for season 2 where they become very comfortable and less formal with each other already.

How I Met Your Grandmother kinda shiiiet
I loved their acting, it had that dreamy vibe you get from Japanese animated films. The pacing in the timeline was beautiful and slow-burning, which I really liked. You can feel the awkwardness between the characters, like a quiet tension born from inexperience and first love. The actors nailed that. It doesn’t feel like a movie, it feels like a memory.
Yeah, it drags a little in the middle, but if you push through, the way they keep the timeline simple and beautiful really pays off.

arranged marriage…????
cuter than a june bug🥹🥹 i really love arranged marriage theme and they handled this perfectly👌🏻 first impressions was soooo funny, i could feel the tension. their love was so real. i also was so happy that they got wedding rings🥹natsumi was so cute. one thing i didn’t like was their shyness, i think their attitude could have been more different. and I didn't like at all that their sisters interfered in their relationship. nevertheless, dont think too much just watch, you won’t regret🙏🏻🙏🏻Was this review helpful to you?
Sweet & Dripping with Innocence ...
This is a series you can watch from start to finish and truly enjoy without any major issue. It involves a recently married couple without any basics of married life, whether it be in the bedroom or any other part of the house. It really is an adorable story with the perfect two actors portraying these protagonists. If you're familiar with the work of Kyoya Honda, he once again gives a great performance showing love, shyness and hesitation toward his new wife, perfectly paired with Kyoko Yoshine.Even though it is quite slow to evolve, their relationship builds a strong chemistry by showing such a lack of it early on. It is written brilliantly to give a step by step of their marriage, each walking on egg shells, trying to figure out what to do.
I guess the only part of the story that looms large, is this draama takes place in Japan during pre World War II. You don't need to be a history buff to know what was going on in the mid and late 1930's in that part of the world. However, even with that dark background tone, especially with the main character being a lieutenant in the Imperial Japanese Navy, somehow the story still shines with innocence. You can't allow yourself to get pulled to deep in that part of the story or it will take away from the brilliance of the rest of the drama.
Overall, a great "good feel" series that shows the sweetness and lovable actions of a young married couple.

An arranged marriage in pre-war Japan — A Calm Sea… Until the Second Couple Saved the Day
Kind of cute if you can handle hyper extreme self-conscious ocd behaviour and overthinking to an insane degree (which I get was supposed to be comic)A cute, funny and heartwarming story of an arranged marriage in pre-war Japan, with an adorably awkward, reserved and innocent main couple, and an amusingly bantering and witty second couple.Watching them falling in love, bonding and supporting each other was a real pleasure to watch.“A Calm Sea and Beautiful Days with You” opened with a promising first half that pulled me in with its gentle pacing and emotional setup. The early episodes had an engaging charm, and for a while, I genuinely thought the story would stay steady all the way through.
But as the drama moved into the second half, the momentum softened and the main storyline began to lose its grip. What truly kept me going—and ultimately helped me complete the drama—was the second couple. They brought warmth, chemistry, and a much-needed spark when the main narrative started drifting.
Their presence added life back into the show, and they became the emotional anchor that made the later episodes worth watching.
Overall, this drama had a beautiful start and a memorable supporting romance, even if the main arc couldn’t maintain its initial promise. It’s a calm watch with standout moments thanks to its second couple, who quietly stole the spotlight.
