One of the other ones that's been recced to me is Forever and Ever, have you seen that one?octopus_joy:
It's never been recommended to me, but I've heard of it. I remember checking out its MDL page, but the summary and tags were pretty vague, so I never watched it. If you do, let me know if it's good 😊
I haven't found a vertical drama that works for me yet - I do struggle a bit with the acting quality, but also when it comes to RR, I really want the guy to like that she's dominant, and the few that I've tried have been more of him suffering rather than enjoying it (at least at the start).octopus_joy:
Sometimes I struggle with the cringe acting in verticals too, but some of the actors range from decent to talented. Okay, let me re-order my recommendations now that I have more info about what you want:
- Wrong Wedding, Right Love! (ML likes that FL is dominant. It excites him 😋. Acting is okay, but can veer into cringe territory)
- Xun Ye (ML is initially flustered by FL's forwardness, but he likes it and her. Decent acting all throughout)
- My Dragon Girlfriend (ML is scared of FL for a while, not because she's aggressive, but because she's an actual mythical dragon LOL. So...I kind of don't blame him. They end up being really cute though. Solid acting)
- Forever Love (Have you ever watched dramas with domineering male CEOs? Well, FL is basically that. She's a big red flag who's constantly coming onto the ML, and he doesn't like it for a good chunk of the drama, especially since he's already in a relationship. You might still like it though...>.>I recommended it to a friend who doesn't usually like this dynamic and she ended up going feral over it because the RR content is so plentiful. The acting is decent too).
Also I appreciate the further info on Rational Life, it really does seem like I'll keep enjoying it and I'm excited to pick it up again. <3octopus_joy:
No problem 😊 Yeah, I think you'll enjoy the whole thing.
.................Arclei:
Stop...don't tell me you...
Last night as I was lying in bed contemplating life, I decided that today I was on god gonna start this drama because nothing was hitting, and then today I did and... I am genuinely at a loss.Arclei:
I'm gonna raise your rent because it's genuinely terrifying we had the same kind of night and the same thought to start the same drama.
What ep are you on?Arclei:
About to start episode 2. Things I already liked about episode 1:
- The mini matriarchy of the Rong family is so legit!!! The head of the family is a woman, and she has five daughters, and more than one is vying for control. They have more money than god and men are scrambling to marry into the family for financial gain and power. Ugggghhhh, this setup is so goooood.
- THEY PASSED THE BECHDEL TEST IN THE FIRST EPISODE. Hello????? This is something other dramas can't do even when they put 50 women in one room.
- Rong Shan Bao is my hero
- Hou Ming Hao continues to look like this in all his dramas:

- Also, did you hear how light his character's voice is? We were just talking about this the other day, and now we get a ML with a soft, cute voice. They hired the right voice actor in this instance.
- I hate Sisters #2 and #4, and the unruly brother, but I look forward to the drama they're gonna bring.
- The fight scene where we're introduced to Lu Jiang Lai was awesome, but also gave me the ick because of the "meat" on the table. Were they cooking those women???
I'll revisit after I finish Sniper Butterfly, lolArclei:

potatocouch:
I couldn't sleep last night (er...this morning lol) so I started watching it, and it's super RR so far! And I was surprised it passed the Bechdel Test in the very first episode! It's very female-centric. I'm impressed!
Same! One of the best watches of 2025 for me.
I couldn't get into it either. I didn't get far enough to see the FL being a pick-me (yikes), but the ML was too much of a tsundere for me.
deep affection eyes… Ooo the ML was trash beyond redemption.. I barely noticed him... True this was just rubbish all around 🤣🤣
Arclei:
I had the opposite with Moonlit Reunion. I loved the leads but thought the story was rather boring, haha
I see what you mean. This drama ended up being more disappointing than I was hoping...
Moonlit Reunion… I had to find something to like 🤣🤣. costumes, music, background music just anything... I'll pick it up again... Now that Jadewind left such a nasty taste in my mouth... I'll probably like something more about Moonlit Reunion.

Glory my goodness I was watching and rewinding and rewatching it... what an intoxicating watch. No annoying tsundere nonsense, rubbish love triangles no cliches that normally have me dropping dramas. It was so so refreshing. What I liked about Glory and Sniper Butterfly ML was how crazy obsessed and gentle they were to the FL. They had too many Gap Moe for my poor kokoro
I'm gonna raise your rent because it's genuinely terrifying we had the same kind of night and the same thought to start the same drama.potatocouch:
I actually can't believe it. The rest, like, okay, but connected thoughts?! That shit is CREEPY!!! How does this keep happening????
About to start episode 2. Things I already liked about episode 1:potatocouch:
I binged 3 eps already, LMFAO (and already started making GIFs)
Replying to your bullet points in order :P
- I know right?! This drama is doing what full-on matriarchy dramas wish, lol. We're in for a nice dose of consort competition~
- The grandma is literally so fucking cool!!!!!!! I LOVE HEEEER!!!!
- I kept thinking about you when I saw the sisters discussing the business affairs xD It's so peak
- She's SO badass!! I love that she's elegant but not softspoken. She's bold, strong, and sharp asf
- That GIF is spot-on. Goodness gracious, those eyes of his. He is not beating the doll come to life allegations. He looks ADORABLE here and even better in a scene yet to come. Bestie, prepare...
- No cuz literally I kept replaying his scenes to listen to his voice... I even made a brand new list just to keep track of MLs with soft voices because HOLY DUCK THAT IS INCREDIBLE!!!! He sounds so.... HGGGGGG I want to protect him.
- Yeah, the family seems messy, and I'm here for it. I can't wait for some women scheming against each other, but for the family business instead of men or men's favor. This is gonna be fun!
- Nah, cuz I was thinking the same thing. ON THE FIRST EPISODE, CHINA? RLLY?!?!
I'll probably like something more about Moonlit Reunion.didichan:
Fingers crossed xD
Okay, let me re-order my recommendations now that I have more info about what you want:potatocouch:
Oh, thank you so much! This is all super useful information, I really appreciate it!
Hou Ming Hao continues to look like this in all his dramas:potatocouch:
You are SO LEGIT for this, I love his tiny little face. The huge eyes! The parted lips! You're so right about the character's voice here, too, I was thinking exactly the same thing about how sweet and light it is.
I do think it should stay RR throughout, idk how they'd manage to spin this in a traditional way at the end (but never say never, it's China, lol).Arclei:
Oh, China, why. (I know why.) I wasn't so much worried about them flipping the whole social hierarchy upside-down, I don't think they'll do that, I just reeeeally hate it when the romance/sexy scenes involve the ML acting dominant, it can really ruin an otherwise great romance for me, so I'm hoping for none of that! Also I like that so far she's really outthinking him, staying a step ahead of his attempts at scheming, and I hope they keep that going.
I saw you're on ep 3 now - I bet you were referring to that scene where he's kissing her foot and swearing eternal servitude omg....ALSO what did you think of the guy who stole the candlesticks and offered his body in compensation???? I almost died.
We were just discussing this drama yesterday! Do tell!Arclei:
Some of the best things about She and Her Perfect Husband:
-their whole setup is very, very RR, from the age gap to the personalities to their roles in the relationship. For example, he spends a LOT of the drama extremely leaning into housewife duties; she doesn't cook or clean and he's really into both
-this is also a big part of his family situation - mild spoilers: they're in a fake relationship and his side of it is that he's scaring his mom off of the idea of him being married, and so they play up the RR of it all with extreme gusto to horrify her
-he supports her SO hard at her job; one of my favorite scenes is at a work party where he stands up to her male colleagues about women as breadwinners and men staying home
-another favorite scene is when he's having trouble at work and she comes in and full-on rescues him from getting fired with her lawyer powers and is a total badass
THAT SAID:
-there's a really frustrating love - square? and for me, it wasn't even that I was worried about the main couple, it was just the other parties were irritating to watch and it takes up QUITE a lot of screentime
-I am certain that a lot of the lawyer job stuff - and there's a lot of it - doesn't actually make that much sense
-INFURIATING second couple
-they cannot fully commit to the RR in that instead of living his professed desired life of staying home and day trading a bit and keeping house, he does go get a job in finance to help her out and there's all this stuff about contributing and I SO BADLY WANTED IT TO BE OKAY FOR HIM TO JUST CONTRIBUTE AT HOME AND WITH HIS EMOTIONS, but no.
-ending is a fairly standard vague mess of breakup-makeup/time skip/why would any human behave like that
Basically if someone made a supercut of all the RR bits then I would be begging everyone to run watch it immediately, but there's a lot of bullshit packaging around it all. By the second half I ended up skipping through a lot of the scenes. But I really don't regret watching it, because the great bits are GREAT. And oh boy, speaking of big-eyed kitty faces, Xu Kai's is a doozy.
I keep picking up terminology that would have me laughed out of China. But it's nice to know how to yell "GUARDS" when my brothers irritate me and cosplay sleazy minister when my mum brings up family plans, so, at least there's that?Arclei:
Truly what better life skills are there?? Time well spent, I say!
I will pick this up I love Dylan do kyaaaa I'm excited thank youdidichan:
If you liked how obsessed and gentle the MLs in Glory and Sniper Butterfly were, then you're gonna enjoy The Rational Life. Dylan's character is completely devoted to the FL. She barely has to lift a finger outside of work.
You are SO LEGIT for this, I love his tiny little face. The huge eyes! The parted lips! You're so right about the character's voice here, too, I was thinking exactly the same thing about how sweet and light it is.octopus_joy:
He's so stinkin' ADORABLE!!! He's totally Puss in Boots come to life. And the voice actor they're using for his character makes you want to protect him even more (although, he doesn't need it with all his schemes).
I'm about to start ep 4 of Glory, and I'm thoroughly obsessed!!!
Also I like that so far she's really outthinking him, staying a step ahead of his attempts at scheming, and I hope they keep that going.octopus_joy:
This is also one of my favorite things! I can't believe they're telling us the FL is smart, and she actually is!! How exciting!
I saw you're on ep 3 now - I bet you were referring to that scene where he's kissing her foot and swearing eternal servitudeoctopus_joy:
Wait, when did he kiss her foot??? Did I miss something? I only saw him press her fingertips against his forehead as he swore his loyalty and tried to drive home the wide-eyed "But I'm just a little stable boy 🥺" act LOL.
I binged 3 eps already, LMFAO (and already started making GIFs)Arclei:
I'm about to start ep 4, and I don't know how to act!!!!! I'm getting the same fizzy, bubbly feeling in my chest I got when I started Fated Hearts. Could Glory be only the second full-length historical to capture my attention and heart?!
- I'm loving the competing consorts!! They're so catty LOL. Also, I burst out laughing when her cousin's gift was essentially a melodramatic reenactment of...a hero? The servant making his cape flutter in the wind and throwing that fake snow (or whatever it was) into the air nearly had me gasping for air. The humor in this is actually funny! And I actually adore her cousin. He's so unserious, but not a complete idiot at the same time.
- I love the grandma too! She's a tough, but cute cookie! I'm a little worried about her though because she doesn't know her servant Jingyi(?) is auditioning the men via her open legs 💀That was wild. I was expecting her to be principled, but nope...she's a thief (she kept the candlestick holder) who's inviting trouble to the wrong family.
- A doll come to life is right. He's sooooo cute, I can't take it. There have already been so many good scenes. I loved how weak and helpless he's pretending to be. Especially in episode two when one of FL's suitors hit him. He might as well have said, "Oh, my!" and fainted. That was how dainty he was acting, and I ate it up! He's so pretty in peril 😭It's the eyeeeeeeeessss. I also loved when he indentured himself to FL and knelt at her feet. Ugh, watch me stay up all night and binge this since I can't sleep anyway.
- Okay, so it wasn't just me!!! Has anyone confirmed if those really were human sirloin and ribeye? I'm so glad I ate my steak way before watching the first ep 🤢
Other things I need to talk about:
- There's a 6th sister??? Omg, I can't memorize anymore LOL. I wonder if she's actually developmentally challenged or just pretending. Curious about what her role will be in future episodes. Also, she's played by a popular vertical actress!! I'm happy she's getting roles in full-length dramas.
- The scholar is cute and earnest. I'm trying to memorize which sister he's most likely going to end up with, but so far I've only memorized the second and fourth sister's faces. I'm still fuzzy on the third and fifth.
- Lastly, why does that one dude who initially teamed up with the arrogant rich guy keep sweating. Is he okay??? Is he going to crack under the pressure?
Did I miss something?potatocouch:
Oh, not exactly - he goes in to kiss her foot first, and then she pulls him up and that's when he does the forehand-hand thing. But he was fully committed to the foot-kissing, he almost made contact! (I am confident about this because I can't watch any more until I see my friend on Saturday so I rewatched the best bits haha.)
We were also SO into the catty competing consorts - we kept saying it was like The Bachelor. "I'm not here to play games" "I think you might be here for the WRONG REASONS." SO FUNNY.
Also obviously EXTREMELY here for beautiful doll HMH and his pretending to be soooooo dainty and delicate! Make him swoon every episode please. What a bratty little babygirl he is!!!!

Omg I thought he was just gonna touch his forehead to the ground, but I think you're right!
That's the beauty of dissecting dramas with someone. I feel like all three of us are watching it together lol.

STAHP! As someone who used to be an avid Bachelor watcher, it gave me the same vibe. Especially the dudes who got sent home the first night hahahaha. No roses for them.
I feel like the FL's one maid who always gives the announcements to the guys is essentially Chris Harrison/Jesse Palmer.
Also, can we appreciate this particular scene transition from ep 2? It stole my breath:

The director is in their bag!!!!
Edit: One of the directors is a woman?!!!! I love to see it 🥹 Her and the other two gentlemen are so talented.

Really
I can't wait! I am currently enjoying the hell out of Rational life. I think my favorite type for ML are wolves in sheep's clothing... To everyone else they are dangerous but they are like little rabbits with the women they love.
There is a scene in Sniper Butterfly when the ex asks the lead does she know you are like this? The duality is hot AF… cause only their women can tame them… in the glory Neo Hou wild eyes 🔥🔥 him switching to puppy 🐶 was too much fun ❤️❤️
you got more patience than me xDArclei:

Warning for this drama, tho, the first case is... pretty bad 😭 And the second case is really long.Arclei:
Umm, are you really trying to convince me that this is a good watch? LOL!
introduce 10+ characters per arcArclei:
Oh my gosh, seriously, how on earth am I supposed to remember all their names? It’s even more tragic when they all sound like they were yanked from the same snooze-fest name generator. You’re really testing my patience here! They don’t even try to be original! It’s like, ‘Let’s just change a letter or two’.
I’m a total disaster when it comes to names and faces in real life. I can’t even begin to tally how many times I’ve had people throw shade at me because I’ll be chatting with them one day, and then the very next day, I’m like, ‘Hey, you!’ without a clue it’s the same person. They act like I’m the worst human ever, like, ‘Girl, how do you not know my name after six months to a year of seeing me every day?’ It’s so mortifying! But, If I’m not vibing with you, I’m not remembering a single thing. One of the ladies in the office got so fed up that she literally slapped her name on the wall! Just take me out, please! lmao
Why am I even trying at this point? And these folks speak my language, so just picture the chaos I face with names in dramas that aren’t even in my tongue! I’m tasked with remembering all these names and their backstories that stretch back three decades, and they think I can keep it all organized in a single arc? The writers are completely delusional ಥ◡ಥ , LOL.
I've kinda come to accept underwhelming villains in these kinda stories,Arclei:
There’s a clear distinction between villains who merely serve the storyline and those who genuinely drive it forward. Sure, some villains can leave us feeling bored and uncomfortable, but it’s the ones that are utterly outrageous that really capture my attention.
There’s something uniquely captivating about a dark performance that simply cannot be matched. I liken it to indulging in the ultimate chocolate cake experience. You know, the kind that’s decadently rich and bittersweet? When you take a bite, you can’t help but think, "oh, yes!" But it’s easy to go overboard and find yourself in a sugar rush, that aftermath isn’t pleasant. Therefore, the performance must achieve that exquisite balance, which is what makes it all the more gratifying because let’s face it, it’s no easy feat for an actor or actress to deliver a performance like that!
In an ideal world, we would have well-rounded, well-written, AND entertaining stories and charactersArclei:
The Empress from Shadow Love immediately pops into my head. That woman had everything! She was absolutely bonkers. Jealousy? Check. Master plan? Double check. Kinky? Oh honey, she was strutting around with claws and a whip, and her servant was eating it up, he wasn't fooling anyone! And let’s not forget her fashion—totally on point! Even during her epic meltdown when she got caught, I was like, "Yes, give me that performance!" I was living for it!

the kinda horrors in an idol actor's airing drama comment sectionArclei:
It feels like I'm tiptoeing through a minefield, dodging AP mines like it's my new cardio routine. I mean, they won't even let me escape the line of fire! I'm just over here, trying to drop some positivity, and then—bam! Out of nowhere, I'm getting yeeted. I've been bouncing around this field like a pinball, and I have no clue what hit me. Lmao, Like, can a girl even comment on anything these days without it getting out of hand ?

Hi, friends, I joined a while back and chatted for a bit and then disappearedoctopus_joy:
Welcome back! Don't sweat it, BL pulls me away more times than I can count, but this fabulous crew keeps me anchored. LOL So, of course, I can't resist joining them again! It's delightful to see you here. I hope you stick around for a bit, and I trust you're having a blast with the RR title you're currently watching.
~potatocouch:
I sincerely apologize, if I haven't replied to your messages. I'm struggling to keep track of which conversation I'm currently having, but you haven't been forgotten. I truly hope you are doing well.
I think my favorite type for ML are wolves in sheep's clothing..didichan:
As a devoted lover of romance novels, I truly thrive on the allure of those wolves in sheep's clothing! They are simply irresistible. I can't quite decide what I adore more: the social etiquette, the thrill of his game-playing instead of opting for true love, or his captivating wicked charisma. And yes, I might even admit to enjoying a sprinkle of playful gaslighting, but that's reserved for my dramas and novels—there's a time and a place for everything. LOL
