Gay shit I watched

I prefer: goofy silly stories, complex plots and characters, gender-nonconformity, relationship dynamics in which both partners are equal (or at least both have a form of power, whether that be status or physical) and tease each other a lot, wholesomeness and good communication, slow burn, supernatural gimmicks, bright colors, indie productions, angst with a happy ending, queer themes such as found family, self-acceptance, social deviance and allegories for systemic oppression/cisheteronormativity.

I dislike: plots that revolve around nothing but jealousy and miscommunication, plots that take themselves too seriously without actually containing authenticity or depth, plots that follow a standard BL/GL formula without any innovation, sad grey gritty-ness, graphic violence, sex-negativity, consent issues, gore, full nudity, unexamined judgment towards minorities, sad endings. Those'll have lower ratings on average.

If you think you vibe with that, take a look. If not, I'm sure you can find some other list that works for you.

>9 means it's brilliant

>8 I'd def recommend.

7 means it's fun enough, might recommend, but there are no masterpieces here

6 means it's watchable but nothing special, standard fare.

5 means it's got some amount of redeeming qualities, but also issues.

<4 means I kinda hated it

mlm = gay or bi guys in here

wlw = lesbian or bi women in here

trans = trans people in here. I don't count standard comedic relief trans women in Thai shows. They have to actually be a character.

ace = ace and/or aro people in here

gnc = gendernonconforming people in here

Happy endings unless stated otherwise under the 'spoiler' tag. BL or GL unless stated otherwise. Current and dropped follow at the end.

I've decluttered the list by moving everything under 100 minutes here: https://kisskh.at/list/1Xz6mOj3

  • Love Is Better the Second Time Around

    201. Love Is Better the Second Time Around

    Japanese Drama - 2024, 6 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~150 minutes

They kissed once as teens, and now they're work acquaintances, and mr big boss comes on to him really strongly, but there's still hurt feelings from before. This is a pretty typical BL. Solid. Worth a watch. Excellent theme song.

  • La Pluie

    202. La Pluie

    Thai Drama - 2023, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, background wlw. ~660 minutes

Rainy deafness soulmates. This starts really strong, but the plot does strange things afterwards, and for a moment it looked like it was gearing up to critique the concept of soulmates, but it absolutely is not that ambitious of a show. It's entertaining, but not more than that. There are lesbians shoehorned in last minute, and I appreciate the gesture.

cw: making out with an intoxicated partner who said no while sober, then lied to hide this fact.

  • Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo

    203. Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo

    Korean Drama - 2024, 8 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~280 minutes

Taekwondo boys in bad familial situations support each other through that and fall in love, break up, time skip.

When they manage to communicate this is really charming, but most of the time they're being really angry and needlessly hurtful towards each other, especially Dohoe.

  • Light on Me

    204. Light on Me

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~380 minutes

It's been a while since I watched this so take it with a grain of salt. Loner decides to make friends by joining student council. Communication in this was pretty decent. Gay panic was pretty good.

  • Love Class Season 2

    205. Love Class Season 2

    Korean Drama - 2023, 10 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~250 minutes

3 stories. Guy's disappeared ex reappears with dark past. Dude has crush on clueless best friend. Lad chases hard to get student assistant.

Just a BL of the standard variety.

    cw: sleep kiss.

  • Love in the Air

    206. Love in the Air

    Thai Drama - 2022, 13 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~580 minutes.

Two stories about hot domineering streetracers falling for cute guys with an inferiority complex. The chemistry is there, so is the production value. It's just not my type of story. I struggled to get through, but don't let that stop you.

  • Love in Translation

    207. Love in Translation

    Thai Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

    7.0

mlm, (and tentative trans, because the comedic relief trans lady feels like more of a person than usual). ~360 minutes

Thai/Mandarin co-business owners, enemies to lovers. The humor at the start is quite childish, but some of the characters are surprisingly emotionally mature and communicative. There is a coherent plot. Enjoyable enough. Worth watching but not a masterpiece.

  • My Sweetheart Jom

    208. My Sweetheart Jom

    Thai Drama - 2025, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~540 minutes

Rascal finds out his girlfriend is dating a gangster, who now wants to kill him, so his dad sends him to live with a village-head friend in the countryside. They butt heads, but rascal does like village-head quite a lot.

The humor is a bit slapstick, slightly more than average for a Thai BL. It is a fun show, and it has a core message about how to deal with conflict that feels well-thought out and well-implemented. A lot of fat could have been trimmed off of this and it would have made for a more coherent and streamlined show. Too many subplots are happening.

One issue I have with it is that the love interest is played by Saint, the CEO of the production company, and the main character is played by a 21 year old newbie in the industry. Given Thai shipping culture outside of the show itself, that power dynamic feels wrong.

  • Our Youth

    209. Our Youth

    Japanese Drama - 2024, 10 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~300 minutes.

Bad boy x straight A student, except bad boy is actually just abused and acting out.

I mean it's fine, but I don't get the hype. The plot, characters and relationship dynamic feel very standard BL to me, but the series is trying to convince me it's deep, based on cinematographic vibes and an overused water motif. The water motif doesn't actually add any meaning, because it's used to represent too many things at once: romantic feelings, trouble, connection, overwhelm, Hirukawa etc.

This story was clearly borne out of pure fantasy, not personal experience, and I'm not at all against that, but I want either fantastical silly fun, or for the author to pour their actual heart out about their personal experiences, or even better, both. I don't want a story without silly fun and without personal experience.

  • Monster Next Door

    210. Monster Next Door

    Thai Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~540 minutes

Extreme introvert x extreme extrovert. A bit MBTI-obsessed. It feels like the main character was unknowingly based on a real life autistic person, and is called an 'introvert,' but it's actually more than just introversion.

This is sweet, fluffy, trope-y. Nothing out of the ordinary for a BL. Well-executed. Good, but not exceptional.

  • My Golden Blood

    211. My Golden Blood

    Thai Drama - 2025, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~600 minutes

Dude with extra special magic blood has vegetarian vampire bodyguard. This could've done with more conflict and tension between the leads. They're mostly fighting against external threats, which I also like, but it does miss the point of a romance. I do really like how it explores the interplay between fear, power and sexuality through the biting metaphor. That feels true to why western vampires are a popular storytelling device.

  • My Love Mix-Up!

    212. My Love Mix-Up!

    Thai Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~540 minutes

Based on the Japanese hit 'Kieta Hatsukoi'.  Misunderstanding leads to actual feelings. Teenagers figuring out how this whole 'dating' thing is supposed to work, together. They've got songs. It's funny and adorable. Some scenes are excellent and moving, but in other parts the show feels too long, with too much filler.

  • My Ride

    213. My Ride

    Thai Drama - 2022, 10 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~480 minutes

Class divide. Delivery guy x doctor. Delivery guy has kid. It's quite cute. I do think it's worth watching.

cw: I think this one had a 'too drunk to consent' scene, but I don't remember clearly

  • My Secret Love

    214. My Secret Love

    Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~540 minutes

Goody two shoes x prankster influencer. Lots of lampshading about classic tropes. Periodically has excellent communication.

  • My Strawberry Film

    215. My Strawberry Film

    Japanese Drama - 2024, 8 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, wlw. ~180 minutes

Not a BL/GL, but it is queer and it feels true to life. This has an actual perfectly symmetrical love square. 90's vibe. I appreciate most of these characters, and I appreciate the plot.

cw: implied suicide of wlw background character, mainly a plot device.

  • Naughty Babe

    216. Naughty Babe

    Thai Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~360 minutes

I know what the title of the show sounds like, but that is not what that means in Thai. Some translations are really unfortunate, but I also kinda think this translation may have been intentional.

Spinoff cutie pie, amnesia + whodunnit. Visually stunning, but the audio could use some work. At some points they demonstrate excellent relationship abilities, at other points terrible. It's got some soap drama tinges. It gets better over time though. Last episode is funny as hell. But the whodunnit is kinda solved on the background, which is a strange choice.

cw: sleep kiss, not great consent politics, but not the worst either.

  • Otonari Complex

    217. Otonari Complex

    Japanese Drama - 2025, 8 episodes

    7.0

    gnc. ~200 minutes

Two childhood best friend genderbenders who have a lot of feelings about a lot of stuff, especially each other.

Even though this is technically a boy and a girl who like each other, it messes around with social norms far more than the average BL or GL. It feels queerer. I love it to bits. At least, right up until the last episode, where they get stuck back into gendernonconformity.

  • Pearl Next Door

    218. Pearl Next Door

    Filipino Drama - 2020, 8 episodes

    7.0

wlw, mlm, gnc, non-monogamy. ~200 minutes

Pearl from GameBoys (2020) trying to find the one and ending up being courted by two girls.

You should watch this specifically for the character named Alex. That applies only if you are somewhat sapphic.

This will need a season two for the story to feel finished.

  • Petrichor

    219. Petrichor

    Thai Drama - 2024, 10 episodes

    7.0

    wlw. ~600 minutes

Investigative officer and forensic pathologist work together, against a serial killer that hits close to home.

The plot is excellent, but other works by the same author were adapted into far better series.

cw: graphic murder and forensics, implied domestic violence.

  • Revamp the Undead Story

    220. Revamp the Undead Story

    Thai Drama - 2025, 10 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~500 minutes

Guy who restores antiques accidentally frees a silly flirty vampire from a magic painting. The silly vampire really looks like the guy he's been having steamy dreams about since he was a teen, odd. So he gets embroiled in a war between vampires and vampire hunters and needs to pick a side.

I liked it, but it should've been so much more than it was. The parts of this that were meant to feel epic, impactful, grand, really didn't. The BL part was well done. The fantasy part wasn't.

  • Reverse with Me

    221. Reverse with Me

    Thai Drama - 2025, 8 episodes

    7.0

    wlw. ~400 minutes

She gets saved by a mysterious lady who can turn back time, then spends the rest of her life chasing her.

An exploration of the trolley problem. The plot is excellent, but it leaves no time for much gay romance to happen, and a bunch of time is wasted on a straight side couple.

It's about the eldest daughter of Wa and Four from Reverse 4 You.

  • Roller Coaster

    222. Roller Coaster

    Thai Drama - 2025, 8 episodes

    7.0

    wlw. ~360 minutes

Guarded girl wants her ex who's married to a rich guy back, but instead rich guy's goofball sister pursues her.

The goofball has me giggling, but I'm not really managing to care about any of the other characters.

  • Roommates of Poongduck 304

    223. Roommates of Poongduck 304

    Korean Drama - 2022, 8 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~200 minutes

His new annoying roommate/tenant turns out to be his boss. Yep, fun enough, solid BL, nothing out of the ordinary.

  • Scent of Memory

    224. Scent of Memory

    Thai Drama - 2023, 1 episode

    7.0

    mlm. ~60 minutes

Special episode of I Feel You Linger In The Air. Khun Yai gets to time travel to the modern world for a day. It's sweet, but not as brilliant as the series.

  • Secret Relationships

    225. Secret Relationships

    Korean Drama - 2025, 8 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~240 minutes

Naive guy is unwittingly stuck in a web of jealous gay guys fighting over him, two of which turn out to be seriously scary. A really fun watch.

cw: stalking, abuse, kidnapping, manipulation, threats of murder and suicide

  • Tokyo in April Is...

    226. Tokyo in April Is...

    Japanese Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~240 minutes

Angst with happy ending. Guy meets old special friend at work. Abrupt mysterious separation back in high school, now still like each other plus trauma. Then terrible communication skills lead to both of them believing the other doesn't really like them, but they do become very horny fwb. It deals with internalized homophobia. This is worth watching.

cw: not the best consent politics, but not the worst.

  • Something's Not Right

    227. Something's Not Right

    Korean Drama - 2025, 8 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, background wlw. ~240 minutes

Dude in love with bestie has the worst communication skills and avoidance issues in the world, but that's actually pretty angsty and entertaining to watch.

  • Soshite, Yuriko wa Hitori ni Natta

    228. Soshite, Yuriko wa Hitori ni Natta

    Japanese Drama - 2020, 8 episodes

    7.0

    wlw, mlm, gnc. ~240 minutes

Intentionally creepy high school drama setting with deadly consequences. There can only be one Yuriko left in the school.

The plot is intriguing and kept me hooked but idk the resolution isn't convincing to me. Villain motivation is extremely weak and why are there THIS many people willing to murder for this nonsense?

cw: teacher/student relationship, they're not main. Lots of gore.

  • Sparks Camp Season 2

    229. Sparks Camp Season 2

    Filipino TV Show - 2024, 8 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, gnc, trans. ~400 minutes

Dating show. Very queer. The first season of this was very wholesome and I loved that, but the producers decided to amp up the drama for this season instead, and there's one guy who's being an abusive douche, which isn't helping either.

  • Stay with Me

    230. Stay with Me

    Chinese Drama - 2023, 24 episodes

    7.0

    censored mlm. ~720 minutes

Adaptation of 'Addicted'. Story is similar but changed, and that's a good thing. This could've done with a 'kill your darlings' round, aka cut out all the random things unrelated to the plot that happen. It's well-acted though, and the setting is absolutely beautiful, and they make it very obvious that these two are a couple, with some amount of plausible deniability built in.

Ending is unclear this way, but there's an extended ending on YT which clears things up.

    cw: violence.

  • Suntiny

    231. Suntiny

    Thai Drama - 2025, 10 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, gnc. ~300 minutes

Technically a sequel to ep 3&4 of Y-Destiny, but can be watched separately.

Guy has erectile dysfunction and his boyfriend is displeased, so he tries a magic solution and accidentally switches bodies with his boyfriend instead. Very campy, but it does have a serious message about communication, trauma, healing. It's a lot of fun.

  • The Boy Next World

    232. The Boy Next World

    Thai Drama - 2025, 10 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~460 minutes

Soulmates and temporarily travelling to parallel dimensions. It's enjoyable enough. I think this is one of the most coherent and interesting plots MAME has ever written, but the dynamic between the leads is still just macho man x smol bean, as is characteristic of her work.

  • The Boy Next World Special Episode: A World Where We Don’t Know Each Other

    mlm. ~67 minutes.

The story of the parallel universe characters. It's fun.

  • The Hidden Moon

    234. The Hidden Moon

    Thai Drama - 2024, 10 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, background wlw. ~450

The plot in this has me hooked from start to finish. It has ghosts and mystery and that's all I'll spoil. But the acting is fairly stiff, especially from the guy who plays Mas, who seems very umcomfortable with the gayness of it all.

    cw: murder and suicide

  • The Loyal Pin

    235. The Loyal Pin

    Thai Drama - 2024, 16 episodes

    7.0

    wlw. ~720 minutes

Princess x commoner bestie period piece. Marriage looms.

The reason this gets a seven is because the set, costumes, and production value are phenomenal. The plot mostly consists of jealousy, and the acting is stiff and formal, which isn't a skill issue, but a stylistic choice that's just not my cup of tea.

  • The On1y One

    236. The On1y One

    Taiwanese Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~580 minutes

This appears to have taken inspiration from Addicted/Heroin, in the sense that it is about two smarty pants popular high school guys who clash upon first meeting, and then find out their parents are getting remarried to each other. The similarities end there though. This is very heavy on academic pressure and ranking. And it's verrryyy slow. The story is not finished without a season 2.

  • The Promise

    237. The Promise

    Thai Drama - 2023, 10 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~510 minutes

Besties in love in college, but won't say it. One of them disappears for ten years, then comes back, more determined.

This is funny and charming. I love the grandma and her merry band of old queers doing weed, and the one teenager who is extremely done with everything.

  • The Promise of the Soul

    238. The Promise of the Soul

    Taiwanese Drama - 2025, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, background wlw. ~280 minutes

Absolutely wild story about a grandpa who dies and accidentally occupies his grandson's body, then falls in love with his soulmate his grandson's age, all while trying to get his grandson's spirit to return. It's a hilarious mess.

    cw: SA, not romanticized.

  • The Rebound

    239. The Rebound

    Thai Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~600 minutes.

They used to be in a situationship and be basketball buddies, but they grew apart and one got involved in some shady business, now they reconnect over more basketball, and shady shit.

This is definitely not bad, but I did expect more from director Tanwarin, because they're awesome. The story is a bit of a mess, just a bunch of shit thrown at the characters without a clear character arc or throughline. But other than that, everything is competent. Excellent theme song and cinematography.

There's canonically autistic rep in here, which again, isn't done badly, but I expected better.

cw: bunch of guns, abusive relationship (not main) which includes dubious consent.

  • The Sparkle in Your Eye

    240. The Sparkle in Your Eye

    Singaporean Drama - 2025, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~360 minutes

Enemies to lovers between a bright-eyed newbie and a bitter veteran BL actor, then switches gears to talking about Chinese censorship of queer media, as well as sexual abuse within the industry.

Clearly indie, but absolutely worth watching for the plot and its message. Watching it feels like listening to the personal opinions of queer Chinese filmmakers.

  • The Story of Bi Hyeong: Enchanted Master of the Goblin

    241. The Story of Bi Hyeong: Enchanted Master of the Goblin

    Korean Drama - 2025, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~300 minutes

Broke aspiring actor gets swept up into supernatural nonsense by a 1000+ year old goblin king who hates him because he looks like his one and only ex, yet does still protect him from evil ghosts.

The first episode of this is chaos but it finds its footing quickly, and then the plot really did draw me in. I don't know anything about Korean folk mythology and would've probably gotten more out of this if I did, but I enjoyed this introduction to it. A fun watch. Not brilliant, but pretty good.

  • The Trainee

    242. The Trainee

    Thai Drama - 2024, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, wlw. ~450 minutes

Clueless and unmotivated intern x cold professional. Feels like a standard GMMTV BL. I do appreciate them subverting the intern x company boss trope by removing all the glamour from the situation and instead making it silly and difficult and real.

Don't watch it for the sapphic couple, you'll be disappointed.

  • Theory of Love

    243. Theory of Love

    Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~600 minutes

I watched this a long time ago. I'm pretty sure it was a standard Thai BL, trope-y. I think the the love interest was more of a douchebag than usual.

  • Tie the Not

    244. Tie the Not

    Filipino Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, wlw, trans.  ~120 minutes

Pretty campy. Guy/girl arranged marriage. Girl casually going out with both genders on the side. Guy is very green but may be into dude he just met. Many other queer characters fucking about in their own ways. It's got good feminism, sex positivity.

I wouldn't call it competent. I did enjoy it though.

  • To My Star

    245. To My Star

    Korean Drama - 2021, 9 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~135 minutes

Bummed out star meets stoic chef. I watched this a while ago and didn't write much else down. It was fun enough. Not super special. I think I also watched the second season, which was on a similar quality level.

  • Together with Me

    246. Together with Me

    Thai Drama - 2017, 13 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~650 minutes

Best friends get drunk and sleep together, then figure out how to exist near each other from then on. They have a fun dynamic and I do think this one is worth watching.

  • 247. Two Worlds

    Thai Drama - 2024, 10 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~480 minutes

Guy's boyfriend gets murdered, then he travels through a magic puddle into a parallel universe where mr boyfriend isn't dead yet, but also a bunch of other stuff is different, and he falls for mafia boss' son instead.  Lots of drama and angst.

cw: bunch of guns and death, torture. Medium amount of gore. This is pretty intense.

  • Views of Love: Grey Rainbow

    248. Views of Love: Grey Rainbow

    Thai Drama - 2016, 4 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~310 minutes

Ex-law student x elephant caretaker. Good plot at beginning, kinda chaos at the end, good acting and relationship dynamic, but it does feel a little slow.

Just stop after ep 3. Don't even watch the 4th episode.

Spoiler: It's like the story ended kinda anticlimactically, and then the writer just kept throwing random shit at the main characters for another episode. They get married twice for no reason, one crossdresses illogically, they get a child chucked into their lap out of nowhere, and then one dies during a wedding, the end lol

  • War of Y

    249. War of Y

    Thai Drama - 2022, 20 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, trans. ~1120 minutes

Critique on industry. BL actors trying to stay relevant. Very dramatic.  4 different but interconnected stories. It's not the worst, it's not the best.

cw: trans person got outed to the press and it's not treated with the gravity that it should be, instead she just gets written out unceremoniously.

  • Wedding Plan

    250. Wedding Plan

    Thai Drama - 2023, 7 episodes

    7.0

    mlm, wlw. ~340 minutes

He has to plan his crush's wedding, doesn't know it's an arranged wedding for a gay guy and a lesbian. The dynamic in which the groom aggressively flirts with a panicking wedding planner who is trying not to love it is hilarious.

cw: sleep kiss but he wasn't really asleep and kissed back

  • Whale Store xoxo

    251. Whale Store xoxo

    Thai Drama - 2025, 10 episodes

    7.0

    wlw. ~500 minutes

Girl quits her high paying job to take over her late father's underperforming little shop, and receives help from a local overachiever with all her self worth tied to her productivity.

More of a slice of life than a driven plot, but I still enjoy it. There is messaging in here about work-life balance and the importance of money.

  • Why R U?

    252. Why R U?

    Thai Drama - 2020, 13 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~840 minutes

Brother ends up in sister's BL fantasy reality. Good acting, good chemistry. It is fun campy nonsense. Too many characters though. I did definitely enjoy watching this, but keep in mind that it does feel aged.

cw: pretty toxic relationship between soccer dude and Blue (the original MaxNat couple), and Fighter is no angel either.

  • You're My Sky

    253. You're My Sky

    Thai Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    7.0

    mlm. ~540 minutes

Fairly typical Thai BL. Basketball guys. Besties to lovers. It's sweet, it's worth watching, nothing out of the ordinary.

  • (Your) Apple

    254. (Your) Apple

    Thai Special - 2025, 33 episodes

This is a straight-forward middle of the road BL. It doesn't do anything new, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

Besties are in love with each other for forever, but don't realize or say it, then some straight marriages and lots of jealousy and drama. It's not my thing. The first 3 episodes are essentially backstory, with the plot starting in episode 4, when they meet again.

    cw: guns & suicide

Yeah it's high school boys in love, idk what you expected. Standard GMMTV formula. The characters are consistent, and they have arcs. This is absolutely very watchable, and there's nothing objectively wrong with this, I just think it's kind of bland.

Spin-off of Deep Night. You don't need to watch Deep Night first.

Bestie shows up with the news that she's going to get married to a man, but secretly hoping that her friend will get jealous and be her lover instead. Worth a watch, chemistry and production value is there. The plot is kind of bland, especially towards the end. There is a season 2.

  • Depth of Field

    mlm. ~150 minutes

Guy gets bullied for being rich and musically gifted, so he gives up music and starts faking his way through life with a smile, but then he meets a guy who is always unapologetically himself and who sees right through him.

I appreciate that this tackles masking, but tbh this show bores me, I wish they didn't do so much SA, and I wish the writer came up with a less unlikely reason for the guy to get bullied, because now he's just like 'y'know what I think I'll try music again' and all his friends celebrate it, so he had no legitimate reason to be hiding his true self in the first place. I understand that he's metaphorically being bullied for being queer, but still.

cw: romanticized SA and sleep kiss.

Ghostly running camp. Genuinely underrated. Not trope-y. Decent communication. Indie feel. People act like people. Does lose points for too much slow-mo and repetition in last few episodes, and for lacking production quality.

cw: repeated deadnaming played for laughs. Of a trans person, not a ghost.

A trope mashup. Marketing boss x intern but also they're childhood friends. Very basic clueless uke, forward seme dynamic, except times three because somehow he can't manage to catch on to not one but three rich hot guys' incessant advances.

Yeah it's what you expect from a high school GMMTV BL. Nothing more nothing less.

  • My Bias Is Showing?!

    268. My Bias Is Showing?!

    6.5

    mlm. ~230 minutes

The favorite idol of this high school teacher shows up at his job and wants to shoot a show with him, and maybe be more than just colleagues. Teacher hides his adoration and offers token resistance, but succumbs. Maybe the pop star has more nefarious intentions than it seems.

This has fun bits for sure, but overall I'm not majorly impressed. I don't agree with the plot and there's not enough wow factor in terms of cinematography or acting to make up for it.

    Thai Drama - 2023, 12 episodes

    6.5

Campy nonsense. This show is stupid and it knows that it is stupid. Don't go into this expecting a coherent plot. Guy from 90's pisses off ghost, ghost sends him to hot guy in present. The characters are all his old 90's friends and their college aged kids. Starts to drag a little around the 6-7 episode mark. The ending is bizarre, and not in a good way.

Would I recommend this? No I don't think I would. I did have fun watching it, but the ending is really not it.

    mlm. ~150 minutes

His new boss is some kind of spirit who's been waiting for him to reincarnate for 300 years, and the director doesn't beat around the bush. It's funny.

The series kind of just skips developing the central relationship. We don't see them fall in love. I thought the plot was going somewhere so I was entertained, but it ended up just being confusing. The plot is full of holes.

cw: age gap of about 280 years

  • The Eighth Sense

    275. The Eighth Sense

    Korean Drama - 2023, 10 episodes

    6.5

    mlm. ~400 minutes

This one is highly praised by a lot of people, and I have to disagree. The alleged 'deep-ness' of the story relies on the love interest's struggle with PTSD and depression (and possibly the main character's struggle with change and social anxiety). As someone who's been through a lot of therapy for all of these issues, this story does not feel like a heartfelt personal expression of what they feel like, or how one would realistically deal with them, but rather like a cheap and appropriative tool to make the characters appear more fleshed out than they are, and as a dramatic plot device that serves as a reason for why these characters should be together when they have nothing in common.

The editing at the start of each episode is so confusing that I kept going back to see if I had clicked the wrong episode. The whole show has a 'this is serious and deep' vibe, with no fun allowed, and I was bored. The cinematography is just okay. Acting is fine.

After his glow-up, he re-meets his dumbass high school frenemy, who doesn't recognize him and asks to date him, so he does, in order to get revenge.

The characters don't seem into each other at all. Idk I'm not convinced. I do like the story of Hiro learning that his past nerdy self was always lovable.

  • Twins

    278. Twins

    Thai Drama - 2023, 12 episodes

Twins separated because of divorce, one does volleyball, the other MMA. Wrong twin gets knocked out by bullies, other takes his role in the volleyball team and falls for the guy his twin was feuding with. The first episodes are rough, overacted, childish, but it's suprisingly entertaining the longer you watch.

  • We Are

    Thai Drama - 2024, 16 episodes

    6.5

    mlm, trans.  ~720 minutes

This is very much 'content', not art. Very standard university Thai BL. I think the thing that works about the GMMTV uni BL formula is that they give each couple a characteristic relationship dynamic, as in, the way they tease each other is unique for each couple.

The thing that doesn't work for me is that the relationship dynamics are pretty much all there is to this show, no other plot whatsoever. There's so much fluff and padding that adds absolutely nothing. But you can't deny that this is popular, so clearly it works.

  • Your Home

    280. Your Home

    Filipino Drama - 2020, 8 episodes

    6.5

    mlm. ~160 minutes

Country boy meets rich asshat, one drunk night later he follows him to Manila to become a fellow model. This feels genuine, and I like that there is a fat character that is actual good representation, and who voices her struggles with fatphobia. But also, too many scenes were skipped or montaged. Should've been longer, spelled some things out more.

    282. Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!

    Japanese Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    6.0

    mlm, ace. ~290 minutes

Virgin guy turns 30 and gains the ability to read minds when touching, finds out hot guy in office has major crush on him. This operates on manga logic, which is so unreasonable that it's hilarious, but I think it's intended to be dead serious. I mean it's watchable though? You might enjoy it. The gimmick is fun and silly. TERRIBLE theme song.

cw: the virgin guy is absolutely terrified of even mild physical intimacy and this is treated as normal, nothing to worry about.

Marketing dude x stubborn anti-alcohol chef. Pretty basic enemies to lovers. Stubborn anti-alcohol chef's motivations are really unclear throughout. Also there really is an inordinate amount of falling for no reason in here, given the short runtime. It really does promote alcoholism as a good thing, and soberness as a bad thing.

"I have social anxiety" "Have you tried thinking happy thoughts instead?" "No I haven't, thanks it's fixed now."

    Watchable. Forgettable.

  • After Sundown

    284. After Sundown

    Thai Movie - 2023

    6.0

Tonally inconsistent, tries to do too many things in too little time, doesn't deserve to be a movie rather than just a standard BL series. I think this could have maybe worked as a longer series. It seems like a lot has been cut. It does nothing new, but hey it's definitely watchable. The set it beautiful.

Arranged marriage in the 60's. Main character acts like a Disney princess from the 50's, fully a damsel. Characters don't feel fleshed out. It relies on you already being invested in the classic ZeeNunew dynamic. Enemies to lovers.

Protagonist is kinda unlikeable and unreasonable, and the only guy who did seem like a perfectly nice character is the one who got dumped lol. This is watchable, not super forgettable, but just not super high quality. Give it a try.

Just your typical engineering students, except with hogwarts mechanics based off 6 types of things you can be good at, like being smart or strong, or apparently 'handsome'. The plot is stupid and it doesn't make sense.

Subtitles are absolutely terrible. Honestly you need to understand quite a bit of Thai in order to follow this at all.

"We want to use our engineering skills to start a company that will fix the environment, so we're going to be selling pure air and gasmasks to people who need it." and the series treats that like it's actually a good idea.

"I couldn't accept that I like guys, so I pushed you away and pursued this other guy."
