I'm happy this drama isn't focusing on romance. If they did, the quality of the story telling would have significantly…
What quality of the storytelling? This plot is too dragged out, has lots of boring cliches and some serious dumbassery issues. At least romance could have spiced things up a bit. And I strongly disagree about romances being detrimental to the plot. In a well written drama romance can add a lot to entertainment value, it can be its driving point. And some plots are even focused on romance as the main dish. The quality of the plot solely depends on the writer, some just can't write good romantic stories for s*it.
Ugh, this is such a drag πͺπ΄ . I regret that I started watching this. 20 episodes is just too much for it, there's not enough plot to spread it out so thinly across the episodes. And I especially hate that they presented FL as this very smart detective and excellent fighter in the beginning, but then forgot all about it later. She's as dumb and as weak and crybaby as any other saeguk's FL out there, if not worse. She didn't manage to solve anything and as usual her troubles will be resolved only with ML's help. The only highlight of this drama are the secondary couple - the actually smart and quirky detective and FL's servant. And SML here is very forgettable and his scenes are boring af. Even the guardian warrior side character is more interesting to watch.
And lastly, is there even gonna be a real romance here? Two episodes left and none of the ships have sailed yet!

Looks promising. Also, I recall seeing that actor who cheats on FL here in Touch Your Heart as well. He was playing a cameo role there though, one of the crushes of an emophiliac side character.
With this drama having societal anachronisms it looks more like your typical modern revenge story about a lawyer/detective/prosecuter/justice warrior/etc. vs. corrupt politicians but in an alternate reality Joseon. That's ok, contemporary plots like these have been beaten to death already, at least the setting is somewhat fresh. They could have done away with cliches like "puppet king vs. evil scheming minister" though. It's basically every saeguk's point of conflict.
I think the king is yeon joo's cousin.. he is a regent because of the late king's death (yeon ju's father). She…
Regents are people who temporarily rule in someone elseβs stead. Usually when the heir is too young. But here we have a regent who is also king. Weird, maybe bad translation. And maybe there is some kid there with more rights to the throne who is too young to rule.
Can somebody explain to me what the deal is with FL? Sheβs a princess, but is allowed to live outside the palace and own a business. Why is she not married off to some nobleman? Is the king her real brother or they have different parents? Why the king is the regent, but also king?
1. Hypocritical main character who knows what she does is evil and hides it from her daughter, but loves doing it anyway. 2. Abrupt, unresolved ending. 3. Weak, silly crime syndicates. 4. Unclear moral of the story. Be true to yourself? Bs, FL should have told her daughter about her job then. Her daughter turned out to be the only one who's true to herself.
7/10 overall from me and that's mostly for those few entertaining fighting scenes. But if you wanna watch the real deal - go watch John Wick.
The cliffs of death (that every main character ALWAYS survives) are the white trucks of doom of sageuks tbh π…
Yea, but Truck-kun kills π―. I recall in recent The Forbidden Marriage FL jumped off twice and survived like nothing happened, she was totally a high diver pro π. FL here apparently tries to beat her record, it's a draw for now. Irl, from that height they all should have drowned due to losing consciousness from impact and broken some bones.
