I do agree with your point on the gender-swap dress-up. Women playing male characters onstage doesn't signal some personal identity struggle. We can debate the believability of the performance (men playing male roles or women playing female roles is a more authentic, believable performance, as the performer can draw on their own experiences and perspectives to bring depth to the character), but we can't assume they're trans and doubting their womanhood

We're sparking conversations and building awareness among viewers. Change in the entertainment industry begins with reshaping audience attitudes and habits. For example, through conscious withdrawal of viewership or financial support, we viewers can communicate that the removal of gay romances is an objectionable practice

I'm not convinced that "romance" alone is the right path to take. It's a popular genre, but it's not the be-all and end-all of successful content. Disney+ has a track record of thriving in the thriller and mystery genres, and injecting a hint of "romance" into those genres could be the sweet spot for boosting viewership and subscribers, as seen with "Moving"

Romance doesn't need to be the central focus of a story to be a part of it. The romantic subplot was still a vital element in character development, interpersonal relationships and narrative structure

"Removing the romance" and "making the couple just friends" aren't the only options. What about the option of "keeping the romance and making it more romantic?"

Reducing the romantic relationship between two female or two male characters to "just a friendship" is homophobic and should be met with criticism, but it's a marginally better option than removing the love interest from the narrative. A "friendship" would allow for the possibility of gay undertones and a romantic subplot to arise organically in the story or to be expanded on by the fandom in fan works/edits

Homophobic comedy, queer-baiting and gay erasure are all serious issues that shouldn't be pitted against each other

The dramas of the past were unacceptable, we can't go back in time to remedy their flaws. What we can do is use our voices to advocate for a more respectful future in television

I'm not pressuring others to abandon the drama or join the boycott. I might watch it myself for the pleasure of Kim Tae Ri's performance, and I believe the all-female setting of the theatre will retain a sense of Sapphic charm in the absence of the main gay romance. I've simply brought attention to the issue of homophobic censorship and voiced my discontent at the constant removal of gay representation

The only reason to remove a smidgen of gay romance is if society has the emotional fortitude of a wet tissue and a phobia of anything that doesn't conform to traditional gender roles. Admit it, you're okay with the homophobia. Others, however, might not be. And they are allowed to call it what it is

Trans identifying people aren't maniacal masterminds, rubbing their hands together in glee and mutilating their bodies to outsmart Mother Nature. No matter how many hormones they swallow, or how much surgery they go under, they'll be the same people. They will sprout unsightly bald spots or develop a host of health issues, just like the rest of us in this unnatural modern society

"Freedom" of choice is a thorny issue. I believe that all choices are open to respectful discussion and critique, even if the discussion raises questions about the morality, or lack thereof, of "body modification"
