After all, its been 5 years. The only thing he got wrong is that in those 5 years he dated no one. So basically the last romantic encounter he can remember is with her.
So, that means he can only relate romance to what he shared with her. So seeing her might have triggered those feelings.
But again, its been 5 years. So how could he have little feelings left for her? That may make him feel confused. Why now? Maybe he thought he was done with her. The hurt he got from the separation was all done. But now they're coming back. He might feel he's a fool for never getting over her.
So, that might come off as resentment against her. But in real sense he hates himself. For never getting over it.
But you wouldn't want to hate yourself. So you deny it. Which makes you FAKE your emotions, like you said.
But he's not faking it to appear STRONG or maybe HIDE his feelings. I feel like he's doing it to convince himself that he doesn't need her and he can move on. The more it doesn't work the more desperate he will seem. So he might ACT even more.
To me, it won't mean he would lose his authenticity. It would make him look pathetic. So, the earlier he gets his sh**t together the better.
He should just come into terms with it. 5 years and still having some feelings for your ex may make you feel stupid. But acting you're not is even more pathetic.

You might feel like you own a person after knowing them for 9 years? no? I am not saying its right, I am just thinking its a pitfall one might get into when you date someone that long. Even though they're not dating now, her mind and heart may be deceiving her to think he's still hers.

Exactly. They're not perfect. Unless you expect media trained individuals to appear in a dating shows, you will see lots of their flaws. And guess what? We're not perfect too. Everyone has a thing or two to say about my personality or yours. We can only judge them kindly for showing us their vulnerabilities. But we shouldn't think we're any better. Unless you want them to appear on a show and act all innocent and sweet just so we get a dishonest process or for the entertainment value.

I think you're the only one @Anais I have seen giving them grace. Like you see their flaw but you don't judge all their worth to just that fault. Its a rare quality to have. Is it just me or does anyone ever have a job in that house?😂 They all stay together all day except when they're dating. You need a job to at least disconnect from the house and the emotional burden it comes with it by going to a job.
