I totally second that. Sang Yan is just there simping for FL all the time. We know about him only from the novel readers or from HL reference. Otherwise we know nothing about him except he loves FL. Why does he love FL so much? Again no idea. Did they show one real dialogue between them when they were school kids before he decided okay he loves her? no . That is still fine. Lets say they did bond and taht timeline is not important but give us something now other than SY side eyeing FL all the time!

I am sorry but there is a reason a novel became popular and when it is adapted it is bound to cause comparison and if the drama does changes that changes characteristics of main leads or brings in random scenes it is bound to cause complains. that doesnt mean audience who love it can brush off such criticism as hate! you are loving it , great but others might have some insights on what was not good

Haha but ML has grown up in a comfortable love filled environment . So he can be sort of a guy who is chill and as per Hidden Love he was the anchor for his friend when he was going through a lot. He is also a typical sibling protective when needed but mostly exists to trouble kinda (ML of Hidden love ). That kind of guys do exist even my surroundings who might act like they don’t care but they do in their own way. They are not typical cold CEO types but just silent chill people .Problem is you don’t get to know all that of Smag Yan in this drama . Since they only show his obsession with FL with no proper conversation or their bonding shown it looks like he is just a typical stalker with no life without FL. They say You have to read novel or get it from Hidden Love etc. but if we have to resort to the novel why does this drama exists ?

You are so right . Initially I loved the feel of C and K dramas because they are so fairy like then you start noticing how most just caters to fantasy of girls . But some dramas like L&P did have a more realistic MLs. ML had a goal (he was a jerk at one point as well no denying ) . FL was stifled by her mother but she learns what she likes in college and both go through a journey . Heck even Hidden Love which hardly has much story shows ML working hard while FL although rich perseveres to be good at what she loves. Here ML is just a caricature . From the moment we get to see him in high school to now only thing we have seen is him side eying FL . Ughh

Exactly my thoughts. They are not showing anything else about ML at all and they dont atleast till episode 12 I have watched. My biggest gripe for the show has been isntead of showing some random charactes show me SY's life outside of FL. Ughh. BJT is such a good actor and they wasted his character by just showing him eyeing FL or trying to get her attention all the time. Her friends and his friends we get to know more than him.
I guess I am too old for the target audience.

I am so disappointed I can’t tell you. If only they removed random characters and just showed something about ML would have been great. Anyways seeing the comment section writers know exactly what they are doing. We are in the minority.

Hate is a strong word but even I am disappointed about unnecessary random scenes of flasher and the actor/intern scenes added just to promote that actor . Instead I wanted to see more of SY outside FLs perspective . Also it just added on to FLs “save me “ trope. I was cheering on how she answered back to her roommate but then comes the scene where some random beggar scene with some equally creepy guy so called saving her . Like in the novel if thy had showed that she actually went to repot about that beggar would have shown how FL cracks her day to day job instead of highlighting machoism of random character. The whole scene ended with praising that actor instead of FL going on with her work in the midst of all that has been happening in her life ! Ughh

CDrama audineces will be mostly women . This kind of tropes need not be so common in society ( I am sure creepy men exist around the world but i am talking about it being a cliche in C Drama )but can bring out that fantasy of this perfect ML . And what’s a easiest way to showcase that ? An annoying jerk SML . SML irritates FL , Ml saves her from him or gets jealous of him and does swooning things for FL to get her attention. Just that this is such a easy way of weaving story it became cliche . You can see the comment section here itself how everyone is swooning over ML . TBH I didnt get to see his personality at all. It is just him being doing things for FL non stop and now being jealous of SML or him saving FL from SML etc. but everyone is loving it . I and
Only very few others are complaining about lack of depth being shown for ML . In India as well , someone decided to focus on just daily household drama of housewives in a large joint family and we ended up with trashy regressive shows which most of the Indian youth cannot watch and make fun of. Most of the things they show in these serials does not happen ( borderline ridiculous these days ) is not part of a common society but it did get accepted among the drama realm and became a cliche due to audiences loving it .

IMO it is just lazy writing. Writers do not know how to weave in a story without such pointless characters. Considering that novel did not require such creepiness to become famous i would say this is just some random cliche thing added by all drama writers to bring out so called "swooning" jealousy scenes from the hot ML !

That explains ! if they were so desperate to push those put more effort to bring them more meaningfully into the story or he could have become the ML's best friend. It is so lazy writing on top of the whole production company messing up the drama.

They should have simply stuck to the novel. I don't see the point of adding that character whatsoever. Honestly it ruined the drama for me. I would have loved this drama now I am liking it but would not consider one of the best in terms of the whole story/screenplay/direction etc . Is he some famous idol which they brought in to get more views or what?

IMO (and i. might get hate for it. ) This story definitely has more substance than HL but i would vote HL for the direction and the writing despite lacking a heavy story . The character arc they showed of both FL and ML is so smooth in HL. No random characters jumping in, taking all the time who are placed in the first place just for the leads to get jealous , My point being story is much more smooth and the characters are all within the realm of reality in HL unlike over here. I am so disappointed with the whole naked beggar scene and everything that followed after that with that MCY. They are just so random with pushing more and more save me trope for FL and SY having only one job of saving FL!

Honestly i feel the same. they show more character arc of their two friends than him. If fonly that intern guy was cut out and showed more of Sang Yan , how his life is outside of FL like how they showed how her life was would have been great. My complain for the show is the same. FL getting too much save me trope and ML just being there around FL all the time with no other thing shown about him apart from some glimpses with his sister but there too dissucssion is about FL nothing else

thats in her dream. the whole mess done by her mother and aunt manifested in such a dream

Duan Jia Xu and his sister's character at least shows something more of Sang Yan's life however little that is. but MCY absolutely contributes to nothing

lol even i would react the same if some random guy or even a colleague tries to touch my face. I dont need a trauma for that. I think it would have been better if a they showed the same from her childhood friend who she knows for years.

i would say even after 4th episode that whole naked beggar and the actor who somehow turns up in her office as intern is so random and does not contribute anything to the story apart from making ML jealous which again would be pointless . like thye would show one swooning scene and then lay forgotten
