Legit had to fast forward Yiren's grovelling, self righteous, blaming everyone else scenes. That character didn't need more screen time. How despicable even considering marrying his sister off for a so called alliance. Like no, you'll just give away the last shred of dignity and value you have. Meanwhile, no one knows that Xiao Qiushui is healed and has immense internal power and is the holder of the sword, which makes him the sect leader.
Yiren was not even there when the family came under attack and instead of blaming himself for not arriving sooner, he put all the blame on Qiushui for letting Liu Suifeng into the home. This character is detestable and they better write him off or give him a redemption arc because he's really getting on my nerves!!!
There is too much not to like in the first 12 episodes of this drama that I decided to piece together the things…
I'm actually not sure what happened with the directing as its the same director as Mysterious Lotus Case book and all that show was way more cohesive, the actors had a lot more chemistry too. Maybe its the cast? So far it's Cheng Yi and Xu Zhen Xuan holding up the drama with their chemistry. I'm not getting a sense of much comradery from any of the allies and many of the emotional scenes of the side actors feel forced... The show has really improved from eps 12 onwards so i really hope it will be upwards and onwards from here.
He is a scholar, that's why he admires her talents and courage. He also feels smth tragic about her constant gender-crossing,…
Yesss!!! He definitely has what we call in psychology- transference towards He Yan. He is reminded of his mum's suffering through her - and wants to "save" her as he wasnt able to save his mum. But i think he's not without hope- he sees himself for who he really is, told his assistant that since he chose this path, there is no need to pretend to be a good person/justify his actions. At least he's honest. I hope to see some character growth here, I think he's a troubled soul who isnt inherently bad but is just trying to find his place in this wicked world.
The way I'm interpreting Chu Zhao's character and why he likes He Yan, is because he admires her strength, her talents and her courage to take a different path to most women. His own mother was mistreated and he received no protection and was cruelly treated by his own family. At the same time, he can't let He Yan fight her own way but wants to pave the way for her through scheming in politics. He still deep down believes that women need men for protection. He admires He Yan but doesn't truly get her.
Our Xiao Dudu on the other hand, said He Yan can fight 10 soliders at once at Jiyang to prove that she can lead them as a woman ππ I love him so much for that- he respects He Yan fully as a comrade and equal partner. It's just what He Yan has always wanted, they are the true perfect match β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ its giving me Who Rules The World Bai/Hei Fengxi vibes so much and I'm 100% here for it!!!
Guysss its an adaptation of the novel. Just like you know when they film a show "BASED ON" true story... of course they can't capture everything as per the novel.. Can we please just watch the show for what it is and not keep on referring to the novel.. .

And how she asked why he was so nice to her that day. He said it was because it's her birthday. It was the first time she celebrated her birthday ever π as He Yan, not He Rufei.. i feel like i have to rewatch this episode now π
Looking at teaser from WeTV, (yes u can watch them for free), i love the part (ep19) where...
Chu Zhao gives He Yan a pink tassel that she hangs on the purple whip that XJ won for her. His face soured so much when he saw CZ's gift hanging on his gift!!!! πππ Cheng Lei portrays so well the stoic man who tries to hide his emotions but the observant viewer knows what he's thinking!
Watching this with my mom. She explained that He Yan is a "shu" child while her brother is a "di"…
That makes sense! They are from the same father but different mother. Her father is so evil to let the brother kill her and the poor mother is so helpless.

That's when you know that Commander has legit fallen in love with her for who she is, the whole package and not just her as a general or her abilities.

Yes!!!! Bc many people say how can she act so casually around him.. but they forget that she has known him almost all her life... and he was cold on the outside but kind hearted towards her and always helped her β€οΈ
Ehh who else is gushing like a schoolgirl in those cute scenes ??? π this is coming from an auntie who isnt into sappy romance... but I'm eating this CP up!!!
