which is weird cause im looking at youku and theres quite a lot of dramas where sometimes episodes exceeds 1 hr and they're fine

"It can't kill you, but it can kill me" - meaning those words are frightening because it can ruin her, but for him (a man), it carries no such threat.

"If you see more openly, then it can't kill you" - Implying that she should be more open-minded (perhaps not worry about societal judgements); if she does so, that word will have no power to harm her,

now that we have JL wearing the duke's undergarmets, the question is....IF she does return it to him, will he wash/wear it? lol

In the "prisoner" conversation, I interpret his words as a way of reassuring her that even though she isn't the real JL, she still has a home because JL's family perceive her as JL, so why care about the technicality. Otherwise, she would have been exposed a long time ago.

I'm not sure how the other websites translate that scene, but here's my rough translation:
Duke: "For prisoners, proving one's innocence through autopsy is important. But for humans, we don't need to see everything so clearly. Luoyang has a bunch of lights up; if you were a ghost, you would've disappeared a long time ago."

He is aware of her true identity, but unless she reveals it to him, he will pretend not to know.

that's hard to say but a lot of female centric dramas tends to have a smart/strong FL. I think Gui Nv, Kill My Sins, Kill Me Love Me (same FL), for instance, are some of the upcoming ones with smart/strong FLs.

Literally all your comments in this sub has been nothing but complaining about the age of the female casts. If that's a big factor for you, why are you still here? Or are you just using that as an excuse to hate? Seems like the latter :)

by going to the school and winning the exam:

1. She regained JL's reputation (prior to that, people only saw her as someone who killed her step-brother and harmed her step mom, a wild girl from the mountains with no education and talents).
2. Got a chance to meet the person who was behind her murder (As seen from her conversation with the Duke - unlike him, she doesn't have anyone to help her so she can only risk her life to find out the truth. The only way she can find out who was behind it is by entering the palace - which if she hand't gone to the school and been in tops, she wouldn't have been invited)

And it was a good way to introduce new characters to the story.

Therefore this school scene was pretty important. The qin scene was a creative touch from the director to showcase the characters emotions and the feelings being conveyed - I actually appreciate it since I can't recall a c-drama that dedicated that long and that much effort into musical scenes.

yeah...i'm confused too because Ye Shi jie called the second uncle "uncle" but then Ye Jia Er's called Ye Shi Jie "brother"...Unless there's more family members we havent seen

I really don't understand the stepmom. She stopped JL from going to the Ye family when she was little just so she can send her to the nun temple later on??? If she wanted JL gone, why didn't she just let the Ye family take her away....like..do you really hate JL that bad that you can't stand her possibly being happy??
