This part was kind of confusing for me as well. If she cared about JL as much as she is making it out to be, why didn't she bring her home? I get that the mother-in-law would've tried to stop her, but I doubt anyone in the house would stop her if she really wanted it done. I know she also send gifts to JL, but if she knows how the mother-in-law is like, did she not once suspect that the mother-in-law will prevent JL from getting them? Also, even if she is old, I feel like she could've visit JL on a carriage or something but she didn't.
