Title Love beyond the Grave Spoiler
Yes she did. She like humans so ofc. They were you can say similar to how she eats melon seeds despite not feeling…
Like I have commented below I think those 22 were not her lovers in true sense.
They were more like special friends or companions for her in the mortal world. They mostly had platonic love even if it was present.

I mean if you don't even understand what love is, how can you say that you have loved someone . She only learnt of love after meeting with duan xu.
So the only one she truly loves is duan xu in my opinion.

Why is this even a surprise? The fact that she had other men? Her life is never ending and she is 400 yrs old…

My thoughts too, so I'm thinking since its true she has 22 past lovers in the past 400 years, thats about an average…
Yeah I would also prefer it to be like that😁.

And after analysing a bit I don't think she truly loved her previous 22 partners in a romantic sense. She was accustomed to the mortal realm and enjoyed spending her time there, so it is more likely she simply needed a confidant or a good companion. In my opinion, those 22 mortals were special friends to her rather than lovers.

Logically, repeating this romantic cycle 22 times makes little sense. the emotional toll of enduring that same heartbreak repeatedly is unfeasible. The one who has truly loved can't speak of love in just numbers.

Because she loved them platonically, she was able to recover and seek out new companions.

However, when it comes to the one who truly holds her heart, she is terrified of falling in love. she knows exactly how special he is to her, and she knows she wouldn't survive the agony of losing him to Time. That deep-seated fear of loss is the real reason she constantly rejects him and denies her own feelings.

But let's see how she handles it at the end .

"When an emperor has a harem it is considered normal isn’t it?"
Show me a drama where the ML is an emperor and he has a harem.
See , I have no problem if side characters have multiple partners or whatnot but for the main couple I don't want any unnecessary baggage.

"I am not searching for realism in a fantasy love story between two species. But I am also not bothered by the fact that she had 22 lovers in 400 yrs."
Well good for you but I am not intrigued by it.

"The point she was trying to make there is the fact that a mortal life is finite while hers is not."
As I said earlier this could have been done by adding other plot points too . This was not necessary.

"But yes opinions can vary"
Yes certainly.

As I already said I am not here to search for realism. And by exclusivity I mean exclusivity in love.

But yeah at the end you are entitled to your own opinions. I am not here to argue with you . If you think it is not disappointing for you it's perfectly fine.

Well we have seen even 1000 year old entities having no relationship or romantic entanglement in dramas , so it is a bit surprising to see this.
And most of the drama watchers aren't here for realism.
I was interested to see how they portray their love as special or fated or how they are the only one for each other. But I was disappointed.
When exclusivity is lost, the love wanes in comparison.
For the fl the ml seems like one among the many not the one and only.

Even if that topic was cut there would have been no major effect to the story. The reason for fl rejection to ml could have easily been supported by some other plot points.

So those relationships weren't serious then?

My question to the novel readers,
What's that deal with the 22 lovers?
Did she really had 22 lovers or did she just made it up?
And if it was true how were those relationships?
Were they serious, intimate or just casual type?

Not expecting realism in a drama but 108 times would cripple or kill a man. At the very least he'd be drenched…
Can you tell me the context of these 108 lashes? I still haven't watched the drama but saw a post showing stills of this scene. I wanted to know more details about it.

Why even bring up this trope here of SML falling for her. She is really a married woman. I kind of find it disgusting.
The ml also fulfills your criteria but you wouldn't see any 2nd fls who is like that to him like how the 2nd mls are towards the fl .
You also wouldn't see scenes which makes the ml and 2nd fl interact in such a way that people may ship them.

Really agree with your point.
Nowadays it is a trend to always have a 2nd or 3rd ml who will give competition and arouse jealousy in the ml.
It just feels irritating having all these irrelevant people between the main couple's relationship.
And even though the fl doesn't encourage any of the secondary leads but their certain scenes and scenarios are deliberately made in such a way which will produce tension between them and people will ship them and go crazy over them.
I mean every post I see about this drama more than half are talking about yuan qing and chang yu.

They like overly obsessed villain who is just nice to the fl , it gives them butterflies in the stomach.

But you would hardly see any 2nd fl who have a similar kind of scene with the ml. In that aspect the screenwriters are very strict .

Title Our Universe
This drama clearly exposes kdrama writer's obsession to turn every story into FL centric even when it not necessary.…
Exactly, this trope is present in most of the recent kdramas.
I don't really get why they always need a 2nd ml for the fl? To make the ml jealous? To make the ml always feel that he is in a competition and the fl has other options?
It really is just irritating.

And your second point too , the ml just falls for the fl too easily , like she doesn't even need to put in effort and the ml will behave like a simp for all of the drama.
On the other hand the ml needs to prove his love and worth to make the fl fall in love with him.

people are mad it was a super slow burn romance and the drama spent alot of time working through their individual…
No need for sugar coating.
People aren't mad because it was slow burn romance they are mad because of that unnecessarily long love triangle which just destroyed the essence of the show. They are mad because of the excessive mingling of 2nd ml with the fl and the fl going on with it.
They are mad because of the poorly written romance between the fl and ml.
And about your “working through their individual issues" , well it was nothing but lovey dovey scenes and dates between fl and 2nd ml most of the time while she keeps giving mixed signals to both of them.

I really dislike how relationship dynamics play out in C-dramas in general.
The female lead (FL) usually has another or multiple suitors besides the male lead (ML). Because these secondary suitors are important to the plot, they get a significant amount of screen time and interaction with the FL. While most dramas don't feature actual intimacy between the second ML and the FL, their interactions are deliberately framed to repeatedly make the ML jealous.
This creates a constantly competitive scenario where it feels like the ML always has to work to earn the FL's affection.
Even if the FL doesn't actively encourage the second ML, she rarely shuts down his advances outright. Instead, she just acts oblivious to them.

On the other hand, the ML rarely has genuine suitors of his own. When he does, the second female lead is usually either irrelevant to the main storyline (meaning less interaction with the ML) or depicted as evil and completely unworthy of his love. Unlike the FL, the ML never entertains these approaches. He isn't oblivious to the second female lead's advances; he knows they might hurt the FL, so he steers clear. He shuts her down completely so she doesn't get the wrong idea. Yet, even with all of these boundaries, if a misunderstanding ever makes the FL jealous, the ML still spends an episode or two just trying to appease her.
This cliché is so overwhelmingly common in C-dramas that whenever I see it, I just feel disappointed by the exact same romantic formula."

Movie is from 2008; I suppose at that time culture in KR was quite misogynistic, so the movie was a cry to defeat…
And how does fucking two guys while being in a marriage defeats misogyny?

Wonderfoul acting and the best drama I ever seen. Ni Ni and Chen Kun are my favourite actors.
Hello, I want to ask some few questions regarding the drama.

Is there any love triangle in this drama? If yes how deep it is?
Does the fl marry someone else than the ml?

For once, in the entire drama world I would like to see a ML revenge drama on a cheating wife. Is it so hard!??…
Well this has been the trope for long. Since the viewers are mostly female, to cater to their taste a cheating husband is always shown as an absolute trash with no redeeming backstory, no emotional background and no complexity. He is just shown as a trash. And his life gets destroyed by the end of the drama.
But whenever a wife cheats suddenly she is shown as a victim of neglect , abuse . She is given redeeming qualities, emotional backstory for her actions and finally forgiven. Rather than holding her responsible for her actions like the husband she is shown as a victim of circumstances and other things. Even the husband is blamed for the wife's cheating. Like why didn't he loved her more , cared for her more ? But none of these are there when the husband cheats.
