I watched this pair before in a modern setting and I thought ML's acting is ok on that drama. But in here, it feels so lacking and so emotionless. Not the stoic and cold character portrayal kind of emotionless but I mean his acting didn't do justice to the character. Zhu Xiaoxue's bubbly and expressive portrayal has carried this drama all throughout.

Gosh this is frustratingly too slow literally. Like every movement in a scene is in slow motion (though its not). The walking, talking, even the seduction. Its just damn slow + the added slow motion. I have to put this on 1.25 to 1.5X speed (the first time i did watching a drama) plus lots of fast forwarding just to finish it. And I think it has something to do a lot with how the FL moves and delivers her dialogue. Every response uttered needed a pause, an eye contact, a hand gesture, whatever shit they needed to come up with just to waste the time. UGH! In addition, the story pace is also very slow like nothing is really happening for the first 9 episodes that I finished. I'm enduring this for Li Ge Yang.
I thought its only me missing that dark sexy vibe of ML that he had in Tower of Whispers and I agree its because of the FL's characterization. For a reborn story, this is the most passive one I've seen so far.
This was actually so good and it should've ended good in Ep.10 where she was already running towards freedom. The plot after that seems to deviate from its original purpose that's why I had to drop it. Don't get me wrong, the storyline was told in an intriguing way that most short drama of this kind fails to deliver. Yet I am here questioning the FL/character's search for "freedom". She became too obsessed with it and became a prisoner of that obsession, hurting the people who care about her the most. My question is, what makes her so sure that when she leaves the city, she will have a better life? She isn't good at fighting so one wrong encounter and she will be sold again as a slave. (Maybe I'll be back and finish it just for Deng Kai and the romance lol)

LOL Agree! I've watched the actress in 3 dramas (this is the 3rd one) and she always portrays pathetic character. I only watched this because of Alf Yang. Though there's one I like where she's a village girl and more straightforward and not really a pushover.

I liked it at first but dropping it for another reason not mentioned in the other comments! 😂! I really dislike love triangles, and this is not even actually a "love" triangle, but added just to stir more annoyance that's why I hated it more. What a shame, I really liked Gan WangXing's white hair here 😂
