I AGREE AGH !! kdrama writers have been recycling the same plots and formulas of previous success hoping for another…
So true. You put your finger onto something. The tone of the drama is very important if writers wants to properly address some subjects. In my opinion some drama could have really benefited from refraining to cover too much genres or abusing comedy and magical plot twists as an offset or deflector of more serious, weak story, etc.

Your example also perfectly illustrate how the blending of genres has gone full circle and are now totally bloating the storytelling of modern historical dramas vs a twenty yo drama like "Jewel of The Palace" blessed by the specifications of its era of entertainment.

I'm 2/3 in and woah... My only critics so far are :
- So good and full of possibilities, there could have been 4 more episodes tbh.
- A second ML cruelly under used and developed considering how solid the actor is.
- Also ruined the potential second romance the second ML brings to the table.
- Could have been more "Korean/Japanese drama fusion" with more time spent in Japan.
- Could have been more serious in its approach of mental health issues and the real challenge it brings into a romantic relationship.
- Could have skipped the traditional second couple to give more room to something else to breath.
- stupidly failed to be a 10/10 when it had all the cards to be one.
8/10

Same ! You can clearly see from which other dramas this one is"borrowing" with less talent, care and respect.

For example "Bon Appétit Your Majesty" clearly borrowed from other very successful historical drama like "Mr. Queen", "Moon Lovers: Scarlett Heart Ryo" or"Tale of Nokdu", etc and you can clearly see the team knew they didn't need to drop some other "dumb" plot in this already very unique and coherent formula to appeal to the viewers and the cast was top notch, here it's kinda not

In this one I can see some "100 Days My Prince", "Knight Flower" or even "Tale of Nokdu" but this show is failing to excels in the categories the others are loved for but is also failing to be good and shine in the original twists it brought to the table. Where "BAYM" for example topped "Mr.Queen" in romance, "ML:SHR" in its resolution and matched "TON" overall quality imo.

Funny to see the score of the show dropping as the ships are starting to touch the bottom of the sea. Like the quality of the show only reside in its ships (this season was bad since the beginning imo. The worst and totally pd team fault). Its very telling about the mentality of some people though. Sad. Not very hopeful about a season 5 tbh. Things will only get worst from there as Kim In Ha and her team, their changes to the OG formula are validated by the viewership numbers (if true). Was fun while it last.

What are you on about? All the previous seasons have got cinematic B-roll and insert shots, so much so that other…
You got me wrong. I'm not talking about the trailer especially His Man trailer always were cinematographic its normal for a dating show trailer to include some cinematic shots.

I'm talking about the obvious differences about the way is filmed a dating show vs a drama or a movie in the final product. I sensed, based of the this season trailer, it will be more filmed like The Boyfriend with a very cinematic/drama approach resulting in a more artificial, less unauthentic style.

I want realness and rawness in a dating show and it is what His Man is so far. Its ok if a sequence is blurry not very well lighted or if a participant stutter while talking to another participant, etc. But if every sequences is perfectly clean and polish, "dialogues" flawless like drama lines delivery, the only way this kind of level of quality is achieved is from rehearsals and re shoots which totally kills the purpose of a dating show imo.

It's only a matter of time before dating shows being partially faked/engineered because of the very uncertain outcomes/story that could result off. Netflix for example just announced they will significantly lower the funding and producing of dramas in favor of reality shows because actors are to expensive and influencers wanna be are working "for free". Soon a similar logic will reach dating shows. They will be deemed risky unless production come with a casting, backed by bigdata, collected on SNS and VOD platforms (trust me they know what you like and what you don't) and a pre-established scenario participants (young actors/influencers) will willingly follow in exchange of fame.

Park Seo Joon really surprised me with his performance in this drama. Dare i say he is carrying this show very unoriginal story alone? I always though he was kinda overrated but his portrayal of this pure heart loser for love Lee Gyeong Do really struck a chord in me. Sadly no matter how his performance is good in this one it can't redeem the drama's structural flaws like its poor writing, unoriginal directing and yeah his uninteresting support roles.

Don't know if you've seen previous episodes. But the body swap theme in on point for the plot here, And I don't…
I saw the first five eps. The problem is if its not original at least it should try to do as good or better than the dramas it took inspiration from. But here the issue i have is the use of the same worn tropes to do the same exact things dozens of drama already did and did better (come on Nam Ji Hyun didn't you already played a similar role). This show didn't need the body swap on top of all the tropes it already abused.

We should complain and be critical of dramas cause Korean entertainment is currently facing the threat of western entertainment influences while entering a concerning creative bankruptcy era. if we're acting like "yes man, more please" when its mid or bad, we will end up with plummeting level of quality and the same bad tv the west is producing in mass but with a Korean cast. It already started. Look how the overall quality of dramas has significantly dropped the past five years vs the multiple bangers it was used to drop the same year...

Wasn't the drama already convoluted enough and dare i say kinda original ? Another body swap plot out of nowhere?... in 2026 really ?... What's next on top of that? Time traveling, reincarnated lovers, childhood friends. Please enough Korea... sometimes less is more. I'm dropping the show for now waiting to see if this body swap nonsense will be dragged til the end of the show to avoid to properly develop the romance like korean writers and directors are often caugh doing out of laziness or lack of talent in story telling. Sad though it was promising...

On His Man Season 4 Jan 17, 2026
I bet you this season will be if not a carbon copy of Netflix "The Boyfriend" season one story at least very influenced by it, knowing how Korean entertainment is slowly entering a creative bankruptcy era and dating shows are now heavily chasing trends.

Edit: just watched the trailer. LMFAO. Look how the "cinematography", how high budget Drama-ish it looks now vs previous seasons, just like "The Boyfriend" on Netflix. Sure it's a coincidence *wink* *wink*

To say my expectations were high for a second season would be a reach considering the first season placed the bar so low only James Cameron in a submarine could raise it but still season two somehow manage to be even more fake than the previous one.

The success of this so called "dating show" is a mystery to me (100% my opinion, you don't have to agree with it) considering how engineered it is. From the "it's just a coincidence" casting (yeah sure and i'm Beyoncé...), to the "participants"perfect lines delivery ("Ok guys we're keeping it"), to the always perfect cameras angles, decors, lighting, etc. Everything screams "fake" and the fact so many people are getting fooled is scary when you realize AI and BigData is starting the play a role in creating entertainment based on trends.

The show might be fabricated but if some young actors/influencers can still find love or a career, I say it's not totally worthless. I learned my lesson i'm not coming back for season 3 if the show is renewed.

I really don't want JH and WK to become like NY and HD from season 2. but it looks like JH already got WK within…
Same. Please JH, anyone but this incel. Even the manchild is before him on my list (and girls are on it too). "How about becoming HJ's third ex JiHyeonaaa !" We are talking about the man who dumped JH thinking "I could find better" like she meant nothing to him. Just a place holder in his life waiting to be discarded for the one really worthy of him. How can you redeem yourself from something that despicable ?

JH, JY? Who care ? A woman is a woman for him I suppose (reason why i made the joke that the rumor he is engaged and getting married next year might be with JY not JH). The t-shirt situation was a good example of how interchangeable JY and JH are to him. He is using JY to get back with JH but if JH shows any signs of a developing loveline with SY or JH, he will not even try to win her back and change his plans to jikjin to JY even if at some point he ends things between them. This is how shameless I think he is.

the original producer dropped out?
No it was good honestly still behind S2 but good. TvN was probably scared for the future of the show after Lee Jin Joo's departure so my guess is Kim In Ha as junior director was probably restricted and overseered by some executives, so she wasn't able to do all she wanted and had to follow some kind of S3 blueprint left by LJJ. After the success of S3 KIA probably earned the trust of TvN execs an received green light to do all she wanted with S4. Now we're witnessing the result and TvN too. I hope they'll take measures to save this show. Either fire KIA and bring a new director from an other dating show to bring a fresh take on the og concept or keep KIA but go back to S3 restricted overseered settings.

So the rumors YY and this new catfish endgame and BH x HJ end game too must be true and I hope so
The original rumor about the catfish is him joining ep12 and being jikjin to JH starting ep13 and giving hard time to WK. There is also something about a misunderstanding between JH and WK and something about coffee (WK text in ep12). Everything so far is inline with this rumor. The new rumor about YN and catfish is only days old and probably fabricated by her shippers because they don't feel BH and ship SY with her after watching their date.

One of (if not) the oldest rumor about endgame YNxBH, JHxYS was probably "lost in translation" JiHyun and HyunJi were probably mixed up, now backed by leaks of YS and HJ dates in Japan wearing matching clothes, the rumor of JH and WK getting back together and the leaks of two Japan dates of JY and WK, so the puzzle is puzzling the rest is imo fabricated noise.

in the interview she talked about how she didn't want the contestants to get hate and that she and her team continuously…
PD definitely knew she was putting a big target on HJ. The real questions are "Did HJ knew what she was signing for?", "Did SY knew PD was doing him dirty by inviting the ex HJ really wanted to get back with", "Did BH knew PD was planing to paint him as a bad guy to serve her f-up narrative?" At least now we know the reason behind HJ's suspicious screen time, all the close up sequences of her crying, (bad acting?), BH's harsh words displayed in big characters on ex's room walls to vilainize him, etc. It's all a set up.

With this week episode, the already infamous Kim In Ha managed to beat my already low expectations for this season/show's future. What that woman did to the og formula is truly disgusting and disrespectful to the participants, the viewers and the people who have originated the concept.

That woman need to be fire asap or resign (if she has even an ounce of ethic and integrity in her body. Spoiler: she hasn't). Lee Jin Joo would never do such a shameless move. As a director and a producer there is no way Kim In Ha wasn't aware of the situation she was putting HJ in by pushing her to invite a second ex to the show (BH). She will be responsible a any hate (deserved or not) HJ will receive now. The show is up to a major scandal imo that could lead to its cancellation.

Told you all, that In Ha pd was up to no good for the show and this season would mark the beginning of the end for (this show imo) the og formula. Why those young long teeth pds surrounded by "Yes Man/Mam" always feel the need to change or replace what was brought by previous experienced pds (and was proven working) to put their own stupid ideas instead for the sake of novelty?

This show is doomed if this season is really more successful than S3 and S2 like pd is pretending in interview, so be ready for more drastic changes. They already ruined the ex rooms and the iconic trip to Jeju this season. You can be sure those stupid pds and director will feel validated in their bad decisions and will change even more things for season 5 to the point it will be Transit Love/Exchange, only by name.

2025 is really a bad year for dating shows. Hope next season of SI will break the curse since it started with it last January.

Its ok girl. You can say whatever you want here. This is your opinion and you don't need to justify it to some gaslighting weird ass women who's ready to catch a bullet like a desperate fanatic for someone they don't even know irl.

But they are least favourite among girls Woojin is should move on only hurting himself Jaehyung seems Manly but…
Sure. Sadly Korean women seems to be more attracted to red than green. For now JH was indeed infatuated with YS first impression but this impression ran out and she got the ick with his recent immature and rude attitude towards her so my guess is she will move on pretty quickly with no regrets for this manchild. I think JaeH got a window to shoot his shot while WK attention is focused on JY. Will it be enough for JH to pick him at the end? Time will tell. Fingers crossed though.
