My advice would be to watch the show for both couples. It's more enjoyable that way 😜

damn at least say rest in peace
Why? If you visit cemeteries saying rest in peace to all people there then that is fine, though i guess it is your personal choice no one forced on you and no one would spit on you, virtually or physically, if you just walked the alley and visited only your relatives. So what is your problem?

What should they worry abt? It is not their father, son, brother, boyfriend, husband... or even someone they met irl, and he was not the only actor in the project, so maybe calm down a little?

we can start by not calling them fans
U grew up in...?¨
I guess there are levels to that too - some come for "easy money" - and since they are technically adult, their parents might not have or feel that they don't have a say in it.
Some wanted to be regular actors and ended in this pond by accident.
Some did not need the money in the first place and this is either their money or way how to a) earn money for studies (similar to modeling), b) relieve a family of debt, bcs let's not forget that widely in Asia once you become an adult, you become responsible for your old possibly not able to work properly parents.
When mentioning putting off ppl, i am not even mentioning problematic homophobia in these circles, which might be huge downer even if you personally are not.
So... it is not that my approach would not be closer to yours or that i agree on the practices i just named... but i just do know about these practices and it is not for me to judge or criticise a different culture or the specific field, i just observe it as i name it now to you.

Mmmm, true. But very poor countries are involved too, you see, and the lowest of the low in China and what they have to do just to survive (look at living conditions, earnings of factory workers, working hours, etc.) — from this perspective, if you have at least a speck to show and it could be monetized, doesn’t it make more sense to try in the industry and at least have a chance to earn solid money rather than starving for a 20-hour-a-day wage? Suicides, you can count on your fingers in comparison. If you succeed, you’ve basically won the lottery. Plus, the demand in the BL genre and the ability to actually act are on a whole different level compared to the standard requirements for acting.

No, i dissagree. Ppl are liking it and praising it bcs it has political vein in it and somehow that feels so cool…
Ok, you say “my family are migrants because of the war” — but can you be more specific? Did you personally experience the war yourself (while old enough to really remember it), or are you speaking more from the consequences it had on your family?

And as for the student protests — aren’t most of them, throughout history, a form of resistance and a fight for freedom of expression? I come from a country with that experience too, so I definitely understand what you mean.

I don’t want to minimize your perspective at all. It’s very valid that for people who’ve lived through war, migration, or suppression, seeing those struggles represented in any genre can be meaningful.

That being said, my point is about audience reception. The majority of viewers for this kind of drama are not people directly affected by wars or political crises, but rather those for whom these themes feel “fresh,” “serious,” or “cool.” They also resonate more strongly with the target audience (younger viewers, who tend to respond more intensely to political themes than adults). So while the political elements might carry real weight for some (like yourself), for most viewers they work more as an aesthetic layer that makes the story stand out compared to a typical BL/romance series.

In other words, the show can be both:

A symbolic echo of real struggles (for those who connect it to lived experience), and

A stylized political flavor that helps it stand out in the market for its target audience.

Maybe that’s what’s been bugging me: many genres can blend together well, but BL combined with historical/political/social issues doesn’t sit as smoothly with me. Probably because those topics are already complicated to depict fairly on their own.

OK, that is the deal throughout history and cultures. I very much doubt anyone with serious war issues is watching bl series right now, so guess who remains actually watching these politically oriented dramas? And even more so i doubt anyone would be interested + taken seriously Gay, Comedy, Romance drama. So... from what stance specifically are you trying to protect the drama/comedy/romance/political miniseries?
