Please can anyone tell me how close is this with historical facts?
King taking Deok Im as concubine, Deok Im being a court lady prior to being a concubine, Deok Im and all her children with the King dying before King, King’s grandpa’s dementia and his father that died before his father was king, King’s concubines prior to Deok Im, Hong Deok Ro being a trusted friend before his betrayal, are all historical facts. I believe they also found a book that Deok Im wrote that contains some names that this drama creators use as the names of Deok Im’s friends. However the court lady drama and scheming are what I believe to be fictional. Of course the drama also added some layers to King and Deok Im love story that are not present in historical records (ex: precise details of their courtship). What we know though is the King favors Deok Im as a concubine because he wrote his honest feelings for her on her epitaph upon her death.
Thery extended another episode when it was airing. I don’t think the extension was due to changing the ending though. I believe they added some scenes in some middle episodes.
Lee Se Young performance in this is so amazing. Junho is good too but I feel Seyoung needs more appreciation for her acting here. Such a great actress.
Moon Chae Won is always an amazing actress even prior to this drama. However her best performances prior to this drama are the ones before 2013 (Painter of the Wind, Princess Man, War of the Arrows, Innocent Man), I wish people would judge her other performances based on these acclaimed works of hers. I do agree this is her best work in recent years (was bummer baeksang didn’t nominate her), not that her acting has declined but she wasn’t able to have roles that shows her acting skills as much as her older works. I hope she gets good scripts for dramas or movies in the future.
Lee Tae Ri in a lead role at last? Not as supporting character or fourth lead or second lead, but the lead male character?! Count me in! He's been underrated for many years and I can't wait to see his breakthrough as a lead actor after more than 25 years in the entertainment industry.
Since this was based on real people, their ending in real life was being portrayed in that last episode.
Yisan is based on King Jeongjo and Deokim is based on Royal Concubine Uibin Seong (both real people). If you searched them, you'll find out that the concubine really died after all her children died and th king had to get another concubine to have an heir after her death.
I did like Moon Lovers but I’m not a big fan of it unlike this one
Innocent Man has more amnesia happening in its story than this one (we first encounter amnesia in the middle of the drama and amnesia happened to two people at different points in the drama not just one person). Plus some people did find it confusing when the amnesia of one character ended or if the other character who got amnesia actually had it or he's just pretending. I'll still recommend you to watch it (That being said, I'm a big fan of both leads in that drama just like this drama, female lead in both here and Innocent Man is the same actress), but its up to you. One thing I can say though is both this drama and Innocent Man have great performances by their lead actors. PS: I do always recommend The Princess' Man first for people wanting to see Flower of Evil female lead in other works. This is another kdrama of hers (albeit historical) where she is super protective of the male lead (and there's no amnesia in this show).
Korean law on drugs are so weird. Based on what I know, he only took drugs but never influenced others in taking it. I think he didn’t deserve jail time, but only a rehab then hopefully come back after the rehab.
Only watched this for my Painter of the Wind babies Bae Soo Bin and Moon Chae Won. It’s so hard to watch a show where you have to root against them just for the leads to be happy. Female lead especially should have ended with the second male lead.
I loved Chae ok and Jung Sung Baek's romance but them being sibling ruined it. If they were attached as siblings…
It’s part of the reason why they’re so compelling, it’s the fact that the romance is forbidden (no matter what identity Chae Ok takes — as a police she’s the enemy to his rebel, as a sister their blood ties just mean they can’t be together). I ship her more with the captain though. But these compelling love triangle is what makes this drama so beautiful. New dramas can’t relate.
PS: I do always recommend The Princess' Man first for people wanting to see Flower of Evil female lead in other works. This is another kdrama of hers (albeit historical) where she is super protective of the male lead (and there's no amnesia in this show).
PS: If you have nothing good to say just leave. I’m just so allergic to people judging Joong Ki and especially his wife and family.
