i think it was not very clear who was the male lead in this show. basing on how the actors are credited, yoon hyun min is the male lead. given that she endd up with seo ji hoon's character instead, she did end up with the second male lead.
She has already confirmed her drama Useless Lies, so there should be no more speculations on why she was inactive for a year. She rested for a year and now she is ready for her new drama.

Some examples of historical BL/GL I watched (don't know if you'll like) them: => King and the Clown -> movie starring Lee Joon Gi. LJG character has a very friendly relationship with a man, then the king suddenly became interested in him => Sungkyunkwan Scandal -> Song Joong Ki and Yoo Ah In characters (they are the second and third male leads), their BL relationship is more on SJK character than YAI character side though you see them having very good friendship throughout the show. There's a scene where SJK character admits to another main character he felt some attraction to YAI character. Bonus in this show is there is also a feanmale gisaeng attracted to Park Min Young character, her love is one sided though. => Painter of the Wind (GL) -> Moon Geun Young character and Moon Chae Won characters (female lead and importan supporting female character). Attraction between them s obvious in the way they look at each other, and they speak words of love to each other as the drama moves along. => King's Affection (GL) -> Park Eun Bin's character is a king, but most people dont know she's a woman. She has a male love interest, but as king she has her own queen that lovers her. The queen's love is one sided but they do have some moments in the show.

whenever i think of this couple and then remember this was a hit in middle east countries (it got 80% ratings in iran), i often wonder how the leaders of the countries just accept this drama and even invited some actors of their show given that most of these countries are not really friendly with their approach to homosexual couples (correct me if i am wrong).
