Her being queen threatens the real crown prince since as a queen she'll be the highest woman in the land. We see in the drama competing political factions, each of them supporting one prince. Therefore the political faction supporting prince yeoning will have all the reasons to have the crown prince toppled away especially since his mother was poisoned.

non-cable channel is no longer automatically guranteed for high ratings nowadays. there's a lot of competition from netflix shows to cable channels (which in recent years has more top actors going cable). in recent years, many cable tvn programs are the ones receiving higher ratings. and even those are not as high as what we call high ratings before. there are exceptions of course, but it's no longer easy for dramas to cross 10%, cable or not. the ratings for this drama are already high for these days, it's not the 2000s anymore where only 3 channels are competing.

Ha Ji Won is one of my most favorite actresses. While she may not be considered a top beauty in general, I still find her really beautiful. Especially in the drama Hwang Jini, where she showed her beauty and where she was able to express the many talents of a Joseon gisaeng. Actingwise, I really love her. I'm a big fan of historical dramas and I am always impressed by her sageuk presence and her acting. In Damo, Hwang Ji Ni, and Empress Ki, I really enjoyed all her performances. Her characters from these three historical dramas are very different from each other. In Damo, she was a slave that became a policewoman, in Hwang jini a gisaeng, in Empress Ki a woman who lost everything and then rose through the ranks to become Yuan's empress. She was versatile in all three dramas. One thing in common with these three dramas is that her roles are very taxing and requires a lot of movement, but she nails all three. She's good in modern works too. I like her action and romcom in Secret Garden plus her movies Tidal Wave and 100 days with Mr. Arrogant. I hope this praise is enough to be seen by people for people to notice how great she is as an actress and performer and general."

I thought it only makes sense to have Ha Ji Won play both the grandma in her younger years as well as Se Yeon in the modern times since they are of course related. In River's case, people might think of Kim So Hyun being too young to play a mother, but then I remembered some scenes where they mentioned the queen in the drama was very young and beautiful.

they also had the same actors playing the teen versions in again my life and our beloved summer. even in 2521, the main actress was 31 years old when she played the role.
