7.9 rating is too low. I hope people who are fans of much older but really well done sageuk dramas come and give them higher ratings here in Mydramalist. There's something beautiful about these older historical dramas (showing Korean culture, fantastic acting by experienced actors) that makes them really unforgettable.
I really like this show, solid acting, and chemistry from the casts. For me, this is 9/10 but I rated it 10/10…
there's the weird fact here in mydramalist that older dramas (pre-2016) that didn't really receive a lot of hype usually have very low ratings, that's why.
More than the acting, what makes this series good for me is the fact that it shows a glimpse of what life is in North Korea. I think this is one of those kdramas that should not be remade, not because this is the best kdrama ever (although I commend the creators for making this a really good one), but because the situation in Korea that makes the premise of this drama possible is super unique to that country. I think the only country who could make a decent remake is Germany (set the drama in the 1960s-1980s) since it was a divided nation too with a wall. There were even stories of real people during that time that used parachute/hot air ballons just to escape. The ending is very bittersweet, how are the leads supposed to be even together? Vacations in Switzerland for a few weeks a year then having no contact for the rest of the year can be too hard to handle. It's really sad for the couple. (This is also the reality of Korean couples that were on different sides when the country was divided as well as German couples during its division, which makes it even more sad). Congrats to Binjin getting married, their marriage announcement is the reason I watched this drama . I also rewatched Hyun Bin's drama Secret Garden (because my fave Ha Ji Won is his female lead there) and watched for the first time Son Ye Jin's drama Shark (I chose this because Kim Nam Gil is my fave actor among her other costars) at the same days I watch an episode of this one. I also recommend those two dramas if you want to see the leads here in different works.
I finally decided I should watch this. This seems to be a good drama and I like Kim Ji Won (this will be my first drama of her outside SJK's dramas if you didn't count her Mr. Sunshine cameo)
i dont condone animal abuse, but i notice it was easier to hate on this drama because of that issue because none of the actors are super popular? Bet if a more popular actor happens to be here, more fans will defend this. those responsible for the animal abuse should be reprimanded/punished (can't think of a word lighter than punishment but harder than reprimand) but cancelling this show is too much. this is just my opinion please dont hate me.
This must be the one of the greatest historical K-dramas of all time. I'm on episode 61 and I cannot gather my…
Highly recommended for fans of this drama are Empress Ki (female centric sageuk story), Tree with Deep Roots, and 6 Flying Dragons. In fact some of the supporting actors in this drama are in those three dramas mentioned as well. Tree with Deep Roots and 6 Flying Dragons arealso written by the same writer by Queen Seon Deok
i was thinking it should be a great idea to watch it (after I heard great reviews of his acting) but there's a couple of shows i'm planning to watch already plus I want to rewatch in full some old dramas as well (I want to catch up). I'm currently watching him in Shark and I really like his acting there though. I'm planning to watch this one as it's a historical drama and I really think it's enjoyable to watch it while airing (if I didn't watch a show while airing, I might not be able to watch it soon).
So excited, will watch. I have long loved Chae Won since Painter of the Wind and Princess Man , but Flower of Evil was what made me follow everything about her. (I remember back during Shining Inheritance days how I hated that she was a second female lead with a negative role which for sure many people will hate when I already loved her for Painter of the Wind). I hope this drama is good and she gets recognized. I still think it's not fair how she never got any award for Flower of Evil.
I'm thinking of male leads that aren't very high profile like Yeon Woo Jin (male lead in 39), Yoon Hyun Min (he was really good as one of her costars in Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter), so it means the story will focus more on her than male lead character. If they do want to get a higher profile male lead: I want Jo In Sung, Ji Chang Wook, Jang Hyuk, or Kim Nam Gil (doubt he's available though, he has two upcoming dramas).
