Nice seeing the lives of palace maids and court ladies for a change. I’ve always wondered what it’s like.
Jewel in the Palace (although it is lengthy and has 50 something episodes) is a very good drama about palace maids. You learn a lot more about their rankings and positions in that show. It was the first historical drama that became hallyu. Trivia: Lee Se young was there as the childhood version of the female lead's rival.
What I love about this drama, I feel that there are no unnecessary scenes. The very few lighthearted scenes, they seam very well through the rest of the drama.
Could You Pls Stop Talking Crap.. She is one of the most successful actresses, And People Don´t Judge her only…
Her negative comments are so annoying, if only I could block her (just like twitter) so I would not see her comments I would. (If you can, please post more positive comments on her here so more people will see the positive comments on her instead of the negative one).
I'm commenting again as I don't want to see negative comments about her as the first comment to be seen on her page (sorry, I'm just simply annoyed by the hater's comments and I wish I could never see her comments ever again). Ha Ji Won is one of my most favorite actresses. While she may not be considered a top beauty in general, I still find her really beautiful. Especially in the drama Hwang Jini, where she showed her beauty and where she was able to express the many talents of a Joseon gisaeng. Actingwise, I really love her. I'm a big fan of historical dramas and I am always impressed by her sageuk presence and her acting. In Damo, Hwang Ji Ni, and Empress Ki, I really enjoyed all her performances. Her characters from these three historical dramas are very different from each other. In Damo, she was a slave that became a policewoman, in Hwang jini a gisaeng, in Empress Ki a woman who lost everything and then rose through the ranks to become Yuan's empress. She was versatile in all three dramas. One thing in common with these three dramas is that her roles are very taxing and requires a lot of movement, but she nails all three. She's good in modern works too. I like her action and romcom in Secret Garden plus her movies Tidal Wave and 100 days with Mr. Arrogant. I hope this praise is enough to be seen by people for people to notice how great she is as an actress and performer and general.
Actually, it's hard to identify who is the lead or the second lead actor in this drama. I think the opening shows Joo Jin Mo (Wang Yoo) first before Ji Chang Wook (Tahwan) plus the I remember the drama promoting it as Ha Ji Won and Joo Jin Mo as leads, but as this drama progresses she spends more time with Ji Chang Wook's character.
So annoying people leaving bad comments about her. Watch Hwang Ji Ni (2006) and Damo (2003). These are old historical dramas from the 2000s but Ha Ji Won was so good in these roles. She even won a daesang for Hwang Jini! And I read somewhere that Damo was the first fusion sageuk that became popular in Korea (there were sageuks before, but they're more like Jewel in the Palace types, sageuks that the typical international kdrama audience wouldn't watch) . So this means without her performance and the popularity of Damo in Korea, the popular fusion historical dramas like Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Moon Embracing the Sun, Moon Lovers wouldn't exist (thus the actors who became popular from these dramas would have to find other dramas to breakthrough). Ha Ji Won has big impact in historical kdramas that is why I find those people leaving bad comments so annoying and I wish they should just leave (if only I could block their comments so I would not see them I would).
She is not popular because of her looking but instead of her dramas and movies. I don't know why you said she…
I dont understand why people think she's overrated. Are they basing it on Secret garden? I saw her in Hwang Ji Ni, Damo, and Empress Ki, all historical dramas very difficult to perform but she did so well. She won awards on those showsl
I'm so glad many people know her now through her latest projects. I may not call myself her biggest fan, but I always notice her. In the late 2000s and early 2010s, she's always cast as the young version of the female lead (provided that young version is on her late teens). I think she has worked and paired with the who's who of teen actors (Yoo Seung Ho, Lee Hyun Woo, Noh Young Hak, even Lee Tae Ri in the early 2000s) in their late teens to early twenties back then.
@123girl any review abt the lead's acting? I'm hesitate to watch this coz I'm not familiar with the leads. but…
The lead actress Park Eun Bin is extremely good, I think she's the best among the many actresses that played a woman pretending to be a man (second only to Moon Geun Young from Painter of the Wind, which says a lot of Eun Bin's performance since Geun Young won Daesang and Baeksang award for her performance years ago). Sorry to his fans, but I'm less impressed with the lead actor (though I'm not bothered by his performance) and I did not really enjoy their romantic chemistry (I fast forwarded their romanctic scenes sometimes) but many people do enjoy them as a couple (and I still rooted for their happiness despite not really caring too much of their romantic scenes) so your opinion might be different from me if you watched him. What kept me going in this drama was the intrigue on how they will do this story of a woman pretending to be a man as a king since there are higher stakes. Plus I love the scenes where she faces her villains. I hated some of the villains while others I really enjoyed their performances (I could be biased on the villain that is male lead's father though, since he's portrayed by one of my fave actors Bae Soo Bin). I suggest you watch until at least episode 6 to get a feel for this drama to see if you'll love it or not.
Gotta give again my praise to child actress Choi Myung Bin, she was so good in playing twins differently, playing those twins in their pretense/exchange roles, plus playing an actual male character
The ending is very satisfying given the way the story had been presented all along. In term of acting, apart from…
If you care enough to know their names, they are Bae Soo Bin and Yoon Je Moon respectively, basically sageuk veterans. If you check out Bae Soo Bin’s sageuks, almost all either have very high ratings or critically acclaimed. He was supporting role in almost all of them (except Dongyi where he was the second lead guy) but his characters are always memorable.
Thanks for informing me, just realized the same writer wrote Gunman in Joseon. I have the same feeling for both dramas. Both started well but dragged in the second middle half, plus though I wanted happiness for the leads, the chemistry of the lead couple in both dramas is not the most enjoyable part for me. Park Eun Bin here (and Lee Joon Gi in gunman) are both excellent in their respective lead roles though.
The best thing about this drama is Park Eun Bin acting as a man. Among all actresses I've seen, she's the most effective in playing such a role, second to Moon Geun Young. The chemistry of the two leads wasn't convincing enough for me, but I'm still glad they ended together. Lol, it was in the back of my thoughts that her good cousin could become a good King, never realized it will actually happen (didn't expect her half brother to die).
Ha Ji Won is one of my most favorite actresses. While she may not be considered a top beauty in general, I still find her really beautiful. Especially in the drama Hwang Jini, where she showed her beauty and where she was able to express the many talents of a Joseon gisaeng.

---> this site also mentioned her drama Hwang Jini having made it to the 2007 MonteCarlo Festival (an international festival).
I suggest you watch until at least episode 6 to get a feel for this drama to see if you'll love it or not.
