guys can anyone recommend me some sageuks that are similar/have similar vibes to this one?I'm planning on starting…
Yi San (2007) is basically about the same characters (except the female lead's name is Song Yeon but she's also based on the same concubine Deok Im here is based). Main leads are Han Ji Min and Lee Seo Jin and it is made by the same creators as Dong Yi, I remember liking it as well as the OST but I couldn't remember a lot of the plot of the drama right now since i haven't seen it for so long. Whats's interesting in that show is that the actual Queen is featured in that drama (if you've seen King's Affection, the lady playing Rowoon's mother is the one that played San's Queen),painting is featured in the show, there is a love triangle (though second lead guy is good and selfless), and Hong Deok Ro is called Hong Guk Young. Drama is 77 episodes, slower pace but you can at least see more Yi San and his beloved concubine more.
Nice drama The romance was a bit too much for me, they were cute ofc but sometimes it was too much (I'm not a…
Who the heck thinks Yeo Jin Goo is a bad actor? He was good in his childhood days. Watching this now for both him and Lee Se Young (who I liked in both Jewel in the Palace and Red Sleeve).
Well he married her character and not the character KYJ plays in real life - so you (kind of) got your wish.
This drama doesn’t follow the real history. So there’s a different ending here than real life history. Real history is Crown Prince Hyomyeong marrying Chae Soo Bin character and then he died before he became king, this drama’s ending is quite different.
You should watch Love in the moonlight. It's her break out role as a leading actress transitioned from teen actress.…
Although she breakthrough as an adult lead in that drama, it wasn’t her first lead role. Her first lead role was when she was still a child actress. Grudge the Revolt of Gumiho (even way before Moon Embracing the Sun).
Completely agree. I still can’t believe she didn’t get nominated for Best Actress award 😭
I know right? She's so good here and help up to Lee Joon Gi's acting, but she's so underappreciated. I kinda understand the Baeksang snub as they could only choose 5 people (though I still think she deserved a spot there), I hate how AAA awards ignored her last year just because she doesn't have mainstream popularity (I feel like if an actor much more popular had acted half as good as her here, they would have gotten awards).
I've come to love LJG after Flower of Evil and I'm hoovering up all of his old dramas. Does this stand the test…
I think you should try this one. It has the same male and female leads as Joseon Gunman but I like their chemistry here more than their sageuk. The two male leads are also very good here, I consider this drama as Lee Joon Gi best performance in drama aside from Flower of Evil (check end of episode 12, he's so impressive in that).
This is my take on this: I don't think Koreans mind the repetitiveness of Bang Won stories though (I'm basing on the good ratings this drama is getting, about 7-8%, it can be considered good). And I don't think the producers of this drama had international audiences in mind (they didn't cast super popular actors) so I think as long as Koreans like them, they're good. I've read before how KBS has a tradition of airing Daeha dramas once a year, and this is one of them. A Daeha drama is an authentic sageuk (sageuks that stay close to history but adds some degree of dramatization for entertainment, there is some fictional parts only to add what is lacking from the real historical events to make a more complete story).
I'm watching this now as it airs. I also have a list of dramas to watch continuosly and 6 flying dragons is one of them. It will be interesting when I reach that drama and I can watch that while this drama is still airing.
The same thing with Great Britain, the story of Henry VIII and his wives have been done countless of times. As well as the many versions of famous books like Pride and Prejudice and Great Expectations. As Lee Bang Won is a very important figure in Korean history, Koreans will often use him as a figure in their dramas and films.
Will it be worth waiting week to week or should I wait until it’s finished? I don’t mind waiting week to week…
I am watching as it airs. Since this has 32 episodes.I might not have time to watch it full. If you plan to watch many other dramas next year, I think it's best to start now.
Is there any historical drama with more love story and less politics?
The Princess Man is a historical drama that intertwine the politics and the romance very well. It's hard to find legal sites to watch it though so you have to go to illegal websites to find it (ex: dramacool and kissasian). Moon Lovers, while I don't think is the best, is very popular and has also a lot of romance. There is politics, but they focus on romance more. In fact the I feel this drama tries as much as possible to avoid politicking scenes (ex: some just explain how a political problem is resolved, before going back to their focus which is the romance of the leads/characterizations of other princes and their lovers). There is a love triangle however, and the male lead has few scenes in first half of the drama since female lead falls for someone else first.
